We need to add a striker that will score more goals than Dessers. We’re not in any position to throw 20+ goals out the door in the summer. I think our three strikers next season will be Dessers Danilo and someone else

Adam Williamson

We really need to stop referring to 21 year old guys like Ross McCausland as “kids”. He is older than Jude Bellingham. Not saying he should be anywhere near that level, but fuck me guys like him should be able to contribute. Ditto for Fraser, McKinnon etc.

Adam Williamson

Yes, fair point. McCausland has had significant opportunities this season and has done okay. Hopefully Clement gives other young guys the same opportunities going forward.

Heart and Hand

Someone said something on here the other day that was so simple I wondered why it hadn’t hit me before because once he said it, it seemed so obvious. But: what do we lose, really by NOT signing Dowall and playing Cole McKinnon or Bailey Rice instead? More pertinently, what did we gain by signing him? That’s not a dig at KD, just a fact. We waste a wage and block the path.

Gregg

If you follow that through you have less bought in players - but the same cash - so you can prioritise quality rather than having squad fillers. Absolutely should be the way forward

Tom Martin

Very good discussion guys thanks. The observation made that regardless who is playing we all see the same goals repeating is fully valid, and we are all sick of it. May i point out the ONE consistent member in all of this is the captain. For months now, just after kick off he deserts his place and can be found at the opposition D, leaving a cavern of space, that he is always too late to fill. He now points more than be tackles, insisting others take a man, or covers for him. Everyone is to blame, not him. On Tues 2nd goal, as the free kick is about to be taken (which was just in front of me) Tav suddenly waves to Rivan and becons him to leave the line which was set up, to exchange places with him and neither of them get in place in time to do anything in the goal. Tav has been a brilliant goal scorer for us, but he is the common element that has caused and still is causing us to lose tons of goals. Let him leave for nothing and a rebuild can start.

Agree bud. Seems strange to me that people can’t give Dessers any credit for what he brings, the boy has performed well but is getting flak for not converting every chance when the real issue is others aren’t scoring near enough and he is left isolated far far too often. Be good to see him in a pairing or at least with complimentary players. We seems to have a lot of fans who love the Kent / Cantwell players who are perhaps easy on the eye but don’t deliver near enough often enough. We have fallen out of love with workers. Growing up it was the other lot who loved the jinky flash harry player and we respected the grafter who was quietly effective. Stoic Presbyterianism over attention seekers. Give me a Stuart Munro every day of the week over the tanner baw guys any day, Just a preference and how like my teams. Comes back to the hard work beats talent mantra, I prefer guys giving their all even if at times it isn’t enough than the guys who have all the talent but don’t maximise it.

I honestly cant listen to the doubling down on “I wasn’t wrong on Dessers everyone said he was shite”. The boy came into a shit show and wasn’t fit, yes there was a vocal section possibly even a majority that fixated on him and Lammers but nobody was interested in letting players settle as the desperation was palpable when the reality of Beale became apparent to the masses. Long since realised that players resonate or aggravate people in equal measure but isn’t it just time people dropped the barbed comments on the big man? Roofe was doing a lap of honour off 3 season injured and a best return of 18 goals and people were still talking this season about him being ‘the best natural striker in the squad’ where in the same breath claiming the guy that scored 22 should have had 40 ! The other lot don’t have a guy who scores that and they spend more and create as many chances so can’t see the logic, defenders arent allowed one mistake and strikers aren’t allowed one miss or their written off, it beggars belief. Just give the guy credit, no qualifications, no ah buts, no everyone was saying etc just acknowledge that he has done well for a first season in a team that isn’t dynamic, isn’t crafting lots of clear chances and relies on individuals, many of who didn’t perform while he did. Could he do better, of course he could but if your issue this season is Dessers I think there’s a lot of others who have failed in their promise where he has just about hit the level expected. Cutting guys from orher leagues some slack when they arrive has disappeared with our ability to capture silverware. We will not buy or keep a 30 goal + striker in our budget. We refused to shell out for the closest we could have got to one in Shankland, ironically another guy who has to be qualified when it comes to his value or output while he quietly goes about banging goals for fun. All for folk being honest about who they like or don’t but for me, personally I just find some of the qualifications of Dessers contribution to be thrawn and a refusal to just acknowledge his efforts. Lundstrum was nearly getting a new deal for playing for about 4 weeks consistently from some, it’s bizarre. In fairness I also speak up for Wright so maybe i’m the problem. Reset of expectations of our spending power, our level and the type of player we can attract / afford needed for me. All that said very much enjoyed the pod and discussion, thanks gents.

Derek Johnston

Would happily see Fraser either start or get the second 45 tomorrow, thinking if you start him you can play Ridvan infront of him for a half or an hour to get him upto speed for next week.

Bob MacCallum

Re the MacCausland miss, at the match, I thought it was our biggest sitter of the season. Then, after seeing it on tv later, you could see that he was pushed by the defender just as he was about to shoot. Off balance due to that and fell over. Should have been a pen. Ditto the 2 handed shove on Dessers' back. I could see it in the SJ Rear. Since when are you allowed to push opponents in the back in the penalty area? PS stop telling us black is white with this Dessers nonsense. If he starts next season, we'll win nothing and Phil, rightly, will be a goner.

Adam Williamson

Spot on. It’s a cultural thing at our club whereby youth simply isn’t trusted until we have no other option. It’s pathetic, and makes a mockery of even having a youth academy to start with.

Rose Mcloughlin

Thanks guys....I for one are glad the season is over at Ibrox....emotions are all over the place....ive got that bad a point David made in a earlier pod...I dont celebrate goals like I used to do always waiting for it to be off side or a var check....but lets see what we can do at Hampden.

Graham Jones

This time next season we’ll see supporters who abused Dessers all season complaining about someone else missing chances, and probably saying that Dessers would’ve scored it. He misses chances, but so do all strikers. McCoist, Hartley and Johnston missed a lot of chanches, and they played with two up front back then. I think some people became fixated on Dessers because he was signed by Beale, and I think people became fixated on Beale for other reasons. Beale, GvB and even Gerrard in his last transfer window were underfunded, and tow of them had to go with what Ross Wilson picked for them. Beale was thrown into doing it, that’s pretty clear now, when he should’ve been coaching the first team, and nothing else. He spread himself too thin, and paid the price for agreeing to take up the recruitment for the board, because they didn’t;t have a name in mind to replace Wilson. It took them a while year to get a new head of recruitment in, and they spent that time deciding to reorganise the football department, the board have to get the summer right, and next season right, or people will have aright to point the finger at them. That’s how I see it anyway. Great show!
