We Rangersed it yet again …

dotty 84

If he keeps Tav and Goldson as first picks, it'll cost us the league, Clement his job and he'll get everything we deserve. Players having a chance to start a cup final and play that shocking. Not surprised

Scott Tolmie

And people keep telling me diomande is a player, rotten

Linda Mackay

Don't think I can take much more of this story! It's seriously not good for one's mental health! It will be an absolute miracle if we win next week. Very worried for the final.

Ian w

When you watch our games the decision making is absolutely brutal.

CRAIG CASSELLS

As one of Tav's biggest fans I have to say I am finally done with him. Hearts 2nd goal was a carbon copy of Celtic's 2nd last week with Tav allowing the wide player easy possession by not closing down and is therefore on the back foot when winger presses into our box. Thanks for the memories (and there are many), you have been a fabulous player but time waits for no one.

Russ

Clement should have smelt the coffee sooner in regards to team selection, form, and the injury list. This season heavily reminds me of the one Liverpool had after winning the title when they had terrible injury issues and basically finished the season with no senior CB's. The difference is that whilst Clement has doubled down in sticking with the senior players or shoehorning players into lineups, Klopp eventually relented and plugged in a couple of academy kids at CB. They went on a run, qualified for Europe and subsequently took a quadruple to the final day. Make no mistake, having full XI's out of first teamers would and has crucified teams..if Clement had the chance to replay this season again would he change anything? I hope so.

Russ

McCausland was brilliant btw, the lad is desperate to play at Hampden for Rangers...the rest of the team would do well to replicate his desire.

Fraser T8

I did not expect too much today. No one at full speed to avoid injury etc. Result, in truth, irrelevant. All about getting some fringe players time on the pitch. Clement needs to go, however, if Lundstram or Borna are near the starting XI.

CRAIG CASSELLS

The worst thing we could have done was go 3-1 ahead. Before that we were in complete control, Hearts hardly having a sniff. Then, for some reason, we completely sit back, give Hearts all the initiative, creating pressure and chances that they previously hadn't, and no surprise they scored a few. Summing up, we threw this away. If the manager asked the team to defend our lead it was a dreadful decision in a match where we had complete control. We just let Hearts pummel our box and the goals were inevitable.

Gregg

Poor Conor can’t catch a break 😂. Players would have got it in the neck if they won as well. Let’s all calm down - suns out

dotty 84

You want to settle for 2nd best, fire away, I don't. You are far too forgiving in the comments, constantly defending the utter dross that's a rot to our playing squad.

JimGLW

Today summed up things in some ways. Dessers is just really bad. Him missing chance after chance and Shankland with a great goal with his first chance seemed to be the universe slapping everyone in the face with a message. And Borna fans can be thankful that his spirit will live on in Yilmaz's defending. Meaningless or not, this is a dreadfully poor team.

Gregg

A game that matters not a jot - I can’t get worked up in the slightest about it.

JimGLW

We've tried going 2 behind plenty and that doesn't work. Seems that going 2 ahead is bad for us too.

dotty 84

Every game matters at Rangers, the player had a chance to state a start in the Cup final next week FFS!

Martin Boyd

Went 3-1 up and got the deckchairs out, silly buggers. Tav looks done if there is Saudi money on the table take it.

Gregg

With the injuries we have - realistically the team will pick itself. It’s just not true that, for most, they are pushing for a cup final place. Today’s game doesn’t matter in the slightest.

Stuart McWilliams

Today shows why Sterling has been started on the right wing, and will likely do so again next week. Leaving Tav without a winger in front of him who will do the defensive work is a recipe for disaster. Tav has been a great signing, and delivered some great moments, but this summer has to be the end. We can't weaken other areas of the pitch to cover for him anymore.

Andy Barnett

It was 7 points gap last season. This year was our lowest points tally (85) since Gerrards first season. The team isn’t any better than it was in 2019.

Adam Williamson

Another absolute fucking disgrace from this bunch of woeful, miserable shitebags. Next week we will get pumped, and this entire squad bar one or two should never set foot inside Ibrox again.

dotty 84

Problem is it wasn't like there was an overlap/load on his side, it was basic defending. Tav needs dropped.

Ricky

Thanks guys 🇬🇧

mark wyper

Do you think that Tav not being involved in most of our set pieces today tells another story ?

Jim McCutcheon

Thanks David, Colin not much more worth adding than you have said really,

Russell Jones

Thanks very much, David and Colin: I enjoy listening to these post match assessments. Next week is a great opportunity to draw a neat line under a messy season. Looking forward to the opportunity. 👍💪🌟

Alek K

This is a terrible Rangers team, the worst since before Gerrard arrived but a good coach should still be doing better with what's there imo, our shape is non existent do people look at this team and actually think they look well coached? I think the players look clueless tbh. Do people look at the other coaches beside Clement and have confidence in them making players better? I don't and I didn't from day 1 the credentials aren't there for them.

David Rorrison

Good summation today. As for next week, Phil’s team selection will be uninspiring. The performance will be nervy, error-strewn and utterly frustrating. Result (unfortunately) is very predictable. Performance and result mirrors the players that deliver them. We know what we’re getting from this lot and it is not what we want. Be absolutely delighted if I’m wrong.

Stuart McWilliams

I completely agree but he won't be dropped for a cup final, particularly as our best chance of getting anything is him doing something in attack.

Vanb bryceter

Clement cannot get rid of everyone in one go. Its clear and he says himself there will be a rebuild. Tav cant be first pick going fwd i am done watching him watching the ball go over his head or in front of him and casually tracking the ball carrier only to allow a cross shot or header at our back post. It really has went beyond the pale now the goals we lose are a fucking shambles. Im dreading next week im praying clement can get one last swansong out of this mob however i feel we will come undone either to a comedy goal or 2 or another comedy refereeing performance

KMc

We have been going in circles for years now. It’s the abject apathy and acceptance that’s becoming a major concern of mine. The club need to get it right this summer.

Steve Clark

For me he’s played his way into a starting place for next week in the last two games my motm in both

Alan Cowan

Going back to Ross County Dessers scores 2nd we are Champions. Big momentum change. He's absolutely useless Nowhere near good enough Move on

dotty 84

We need to get as many out as possible. Lawrence and Dowell need to go and take a low fee to help that. Nobody should be renewed. Lammers, Hagi, Raskin, Matondo, Wright, Davies, Tav and Goldson all sold if possible

Graham Jones

I take all the points made on board, and agree with many, but we have to look at the game in context of what was at stake. The best we were going to take from the game was time on the park for certain players, be it they are returning from injury or trying to make an impression. The manager has made noises about where he’s at and almost suggesting he hopes the board are in the same place, because that has been the contributing position for the past three years now. Since we won the title, there has been a difference between the managers position and the boards. This has led to both underinvestment and poorer recruits coming to the club. Sure, we;ve invested in wages, but it’s not often you get really good Bosman’s these days. The Diomande deal is the sort of move we should’ve been making for the past three seasons, but there hasn’t been the will to do so from the board, for various reasons. It’s the managers job to tell the board what is needed, and it’s the boards job to find the funds for that. What we saw with the Diomande deal was what we never saw with the Ramsey move. Ramsey was someone who was at the wrong stage in his career and was an ego deal from Wilson. Diomande is a move for the future, and cleverly put together, so we got him now and pay in the summer. The board have to look to have a round of new fundraising if there is to be a rebuild, and I’m doubtful, because of their record over recent seasons, that they actually are prepared to do this. King had many faults, but he always understood that there was a need to spend more when he was there, because it was a major rebuilding period. That’s what we’re entering into now, so there need to be signs from the board that they are prepared for this. What the manager has been able to squeeze out of this squad has been miraculous, and he has more than earned the right to be given all the help he needs in the summer, so the boards time is now to show they understand what their job will be this summer. They’ve done a great job restoring the club to an acceptable level, but it’s not quite at the level where we should be, and that lot over in the east end are not any great shakes. They’re simply not making as many mistakes as we are.

Gary Shaw

I love my club but I can’t stand this group of players….Im not even going to go on a rant or single players out as I would be here all night….Cheers for the content,David and look forward to hearing from all the guys next season 👍❤️🤍💙

Adam Williamson

In other words, even though Celtic regressed massively, we regressed even more than them. Utterly shameful.

Tamus

I'm so glad this shit show is over

Trev @JimmyBell_Loyal

David, the manager will not drop Tav. No one has the balls to drop the captain. When was the last time this happened due to poor performances? I hope he makes me eat my words though. And we’ve now finished 8 points behind. Worse than when Phil came in. Not blaming him but it just goes to show how bad this squad is.

Ryan Stewart

Our lowest points total since Gerrard’s first season. Clement and Koppen have some job on their hands over summer Looking at comfortably double figures in terms of incomings and 90% will need to contribute straight away. Biggest issue is going to be moving on the deadwood on big contracts

James Cameron

Cant wait until Saturday no matter the result i won'y have to suffer some of these players any longer. For 2 seasons I have had it with this group of players

CJT

Pace of play, mentality, inability to learn - spot on. Could be said about Rangers at any point in recent years and that’s the frustration. We all know the issues, sure the manager knows the issues but I for one am not really sure it is resolvable in one window. It is too ingrained. Next week is really a bit like last week. We have a chance if the players believe. Clear from almost all the OFs this season this group don’t. As a result none of us really do either. That combination rarely brings success. Stranger things have happened in one off games, but to be honest, not many.

CJT

In a season of multiple sliding door moments his name is attached to far too many.

Craig Clements

Its more than mentality. Unfortunately for some players its ability that is the problem also. Combined, that is a disaster waiting to happen.

maccalsa

It will take longer than one summer, we need to adjust our short term expectations

David Herd

2 in front after 29 games. 8 behind after 38 games. And Clement can't use his "we were 7 behind when I got here" card any more, not when they ended up further in front. Can't wait for the clear out to start.

Stephen

To be fair, if Beale had stayed we would probably be 25 points behind! Clement should be judged next season.

Colin

Absolutely dreading next week unfortunately we are not winning bar s miracle 😞😞😞😞

G Calder

Being further behind Celtc in the league from when PC took over is quite significant. Was 7 points , now 8 . Im not looking forward to next week - but am looking forward to next season . Im still very sure PC will fix this .

David Kiltie

David mentioned the paradox of Dessers - a good number goals sits alongside a high number of misses. I think the reason Dessers’ misses grind so many gears is that we don’t have a healthy spread of goals across the team. In 2002/03 (a different era, I realize) we had a host of players contributing double figures. This year the preponderance of goals have come from Tav, Sima and Dessers. With Tav on the slide and Sima having a lengthy absence this has put a heavy burden on Dessers.

Jim Milne

Thanks for the pod David & Colin. Not that it was a hard listen, but you could've repeated a pod from the last 10 games. Hoping for a celebration pod next weekend!

David Herd

Beale is a bit irrelevant as we were 2 points clear with 9 games left, and Clement had been in charge for months. Obviously it's far more down to the players, and their bottle crashing. But if I'm honest, I don't think Clement has helped the situation in recent weeks.

KMc

I agree, it might. But we knew this was coming since October. The expectation should be the recruitment and squad build is done correctly this time round. We have had plenty practice by now. Where do you draw the line on the refinement of expectations? We have been settling for second best for long enough and have been fairly patient throughout that in all honesty. I just can’t stomach another Gerrardesque project and I don’t believe it should be taking a manager three seasons to win the league in Scotland either. We need results now.

David Kiltie

Andy, I think a bit of context is needed. Last season that lot dropped 8 points in the 3 games after clinching the title so the final league table flattered us. I think most of us agreed that we could not set much store by that brief bad run of results and our 3-0 win over them this time a year ago was put firmly in perspective.

Mr J K Murray

for many years I do not even know what the best Rangers team is, a constant riddle to who is to play where,Ross scored against the cyprus side before injury, he just provides football at a level to what we have, i rate only a few players we have as the rest are trash even what ever great system they shown, 1 title la,management taking the pizz, not hard to put a side togther to do well in this league, people should be rioting hic at this malaise,

Alan Cowan

Agree totally. But some misses are eye watering and more difficult to miss than score. As I said, scores the 2nd v Ross County..........

David Kiltie

Whilst it is gutting to let a 2 goal lead slip today’s game was a means to an end. Had the league race been alive then of course it would have been totally different approach. At the same time with the cup final next week it was not going to be the typical flip flops and sombreros end of season dead rubber. Whether we finished 6 points or 8 points behind Celtic will not matter a jot in the long run. The only significant fact is we came 2nd. Had we picked up avoidable injuries today then that would have been calamitous. If minutes on the park today for the likes of Raskin, Ridvan and Sima is any form of boost to the team next week then that is a positive.

JimGLW

He's missed key chances all season. He's a remarkably lucky guy. We chases two better strikers in Colak and Sakala who would have smashed his goals tally given the same minutes.

Declan Cairns

Fuck me I hate this squad and the people in charge at the club, absolute second best and completely content with mediocrity

Fraser Black

I think we’re going to have to sell Butland to have any chance of this “rebuild 2.0” everyone is waiting on . . . I’m not going to call them “Leadership” group because they clearly have none of that, but the most experienced ones shall we say, all have to be gone by August or we’ll be in this exact same position this time next year. How many fucking times do we say this 😔 will this shite ever end . . .

David Innes

Not sure if the points gap matters that much. If Beale had stayed I’m not even sure if we’d have come 2nd

Rona Bluebell

Song to sum up a depressing season: Is That All There Is? Peggy Lee.

Steven L

We actually finished the league in a worse position than before the manager came in. I hate this rangers squad

Ally Mair

My worry for next week is clement won’t make the big brave decisions, ie sterling and raskin in middle start with sima for a half , nope he will bring back Lundstrum play sterling out wide and wait until we enevitably 2 down before trying to salvage things , hope I’m wrong but have a feeling that he is not seeing what the fans see

Heart and Hand

Points gap means nothing to me once the league is lost. 2nd is 2nd and hurts regardless. If it had been 4 6 or 8 it doesn’t matter. It’s the continued disappointments ahead of a Cup Final that worries me. We’re conceding from just about every chance we give away in last two games.

maccalsa

This celtic team was probably the worst of their teams since we got back into the prem, and they still edged us. Sacking a manager every November will put us back in the same place or even further away. Facts are Celtic are wealthier than us. Some people are in denial to that but they just don't have to be quite as savey with their recruitment as we do as they pay for quality. Clement is right. We need to sign well, improve a player, and move them on, For this to work, We need to always be replenishing that talent. That's the hard bit. As fans and as a club, if we get a gem we need to enjoy them but know they will move on. The concept of "building teams around a player" we just are not big enough these days to retain that talent so that is pretty pointless I find it difficult to understand. There was a period in the Gerrard era where I thought we were signing well and selling well, but then we turned down good offers for players or made it clear in the press that a player was not for sale because of what? Because we feared celtic would win everything? That's turned out well in hindsight, hasn't it? Players walk out the door for nothing A two horse race 38 games and 4 are against the team that are your rivals. 10% of your fixtures relying on big results against one team. No other league in europe has such small margins of error against a single club. It's not by chance that if you come out looking poor from that 10%, you're just not going to win the league and stats back that up, not saying it hasn't happened, but those are outliers So I don't really take the point that 3 years is too long. If you have one club used to winning, who have that mentality, and have money to spend when they need to, its not difficult to see how they've won 7/8 titles since we returned 3 years is too long if we try Clements plan, and we are no closer, that's not saying we have to win, that's saying we stick to a model and see I through regardless of the outcomes. Off course that will never happen. If we aren't fighting toe to toe with Celtic in November, Clement will lose his job, we'll.get someone in, probably start getting results. In January we will loan some player who used to cost 30-40mil. He'll be awful, we'll finish second. Fans will be outraged, and the cycle will start again until celtic has a dodgy season

David Innes

I don’t think the team selection is going to make a massive difference next week. Unless Celtic have an off day where they somehow don’t take any of the many chances we’ll allow them to create then we’re going to lose

Alan

My fear of next week is that we are in for a hiding. After that performance today it's looking likely especially if we have a defence that is non existent. I can't believe I am now going into games with our rivals hoping that we aren't humiliated rather than having confidence in the team and hoping for a win. Ridiculous situation to be in. Anyway thanks to both of you and all of the other podders for your pre and post game analysis.

David Kiltie

When Beale was fired we were 7 points behind after only 7 games. On that trend we would be looking at finishing 20 to 30 points behind and maybe struggling to come 2nd. Our league form has pretty much matched Celtic’s since early October. That run of no wins in 3 in early/mid April has been our undoing.

Paul Holst

Unfortunately I see Tav and Goodson both starting at the beginning of next season. If so little will change.

David Kiltie

I agree, David. Yesterday’s game was a bit of a paradox. Letting a lead slip is the last thing we needed in terms of confidence in view of next week and the ease with which we concede goals is very worrying. At the same time preparation for the Cup Final was more important than the result. Decisions in terms of risks, minutes, substitutions were driven by concern for next week. Clement hinted that these decisions may have cost us the win but it was a necessary trade off. Imagine for instance if Sima or Ridvan had been put on from the start and broken down. I think that might might left us fuming far more than the result.

David Kiltie

Colak, perhaps, but Sakala was similarly erratic in front of goal. His 2 missed sitters in last year’s semi was the last straw for many people. Sakala could point to good numbers, but then so can Dessers 22 goals in a season).

Steven L

Pretty much matched. We finished 2nd 8 points behind. 🚩 the numbers don’t lie and quite frankly the eye test doesn’t lie.

Stuart McNiven

You completely didn't take on board that last reply. Our players haven't been conditioned right. They should be able to play 60 plus games a season and have a squad that can rotate to allow players to come out when they're redlining. You can't press or counter attack properly if players aren't fit. Beale also wouldn't have won the League Cup or beaten Betis in their own midden.

Steven L

I took on board the comment I just think it’s crap. It’s a fact we finished 8 points behind. The players get 90% of the blame but the manager has to take responsibility as well. No one get a free pass. As for if MB would have won this or that who knows. It’s all a guess.

Andrew McManus

We’ve gifted Celtic 3 years of automatic CL entry, entry built on the back of our tremendous European form, that’s the scandal. We can talk about their financial advantage but we gave them a huge chunk of that and if they have anything about them they’ll bury us and the. The gnashing of teeth with be deafening. This has been the true outcome of 2012, we don’t have the financial leverage, ambition, ruthlessness or patience to do what’s required.

Mr J K Murray

apologies Ian, it is not a curse word, I stopped drinking many years ago & sometimes my narrative becomes as if I do drink & i add this 3 letter word, moderate drinking is allowed in the Bible & we have a deep problem with it in Scotland, It is annoying & surprsied someone has not moaned about it the few years I have registered for H/H. This does not make it any less annoying for you & others, will try an accomodate this drunkness less,

Graeme Homer

Funny how Gio & Beale are mentioned but not Gerrard the guy who built the leadership group of this squad and failed consistently. Said it before when he was here and after he left, until his band of nearly men are gone, we aren’t doing anything and we have to get as far away from the Gerrard legacy as possible as it was terrible and not one we should be reflecting positively on.

maccalsa

Tavenier was Warburton's man, and I don't recollect many moaning that goldson was a problem for the first 3 years he was here. Who else is in this band you speak off? Did any of this band win a championship? Were any of this band a hairs breadth away from winning the Europa league? Did you predict that, too? Its time to move on from them, i agree, but its easy to just be negative and gloat when you're right and keep quiet when you're wrong

David Kiltie

The league results Beale achieved in his first 6 months gave him the benefit of the doubt so he was given the keys to the castle last summer. The result - a transfer window which left the squad in a worse condition than it was before, and a pre season which left a season of horrendous fitness and injury issues. Clement of course is not above criticism (no manager ever is) but he had a truly awful inheritance.

maccalsa

There are players worse looking on the eye that are way more productive than Cantwell. He definitely is one of those players that looks good but really produce little. I'd sell him 6 we got a good offer. It's a shame about Lawrence. He was a decent footballer at one time, but his body is failing him now. Doubt, we'd get a fee for him.

Gary Brown

Thanks for the post match pods throughout the season Colin, David and others. Time waits for no one and it's simply caught up with too many in our team. The weakness of our midfield is a huge issue; Jack, Arfield, Davis, Aribo, Hagi, Kamara all gone with no comparable, nevermind improvements, brought in. Say what you want about Beale, SJB and Sterling are two of the best we've brought in for a very long time. Dessers is an upgrade on Morelos! There, I said it. Had a shit start, not fully fit - just like Morelos every season. Plays every game possible - doesn't miss a third of the season suspended. Misses lots of chances - like Morelos (and McCoist, Defoe, Boyd, etc, etc) The man has shown strength of character sadly lacking in our (so called) leadership group to overcome what he has. Doubt me? Check his post OF match presser. And where was our illustrilious Captain at that point? Not front & centre where he should have been, that's for sure. Is Danilo the answer. Dunno. But no team triumphs with only one goal getter available in the squad. Selling Colak and gambling on Roofe's fitness was a huge error. Hounding Lammers out the door was another. Maybe the same goal-a-game purple patch would've happened here! The sad fact is fellow bears this might get worse before it gets better. Every single 'rebuild' involves ripping out what's wrong and replacing it - we have a lot to rip out and the new parts might not all fit properly right away. Look at Arteta at Arsenal, the greetin element of their fanbase weren't getting what they wanted quick enough, almost got him binned (like Emery before) - and look at them (& Villa) now. The manager said at his opening pressers everone has a clean slate, a chance to prove themselves for the rest of the season. Too many have failed. They failed with PC having them playing the way they want to and can play. Not playing in the way PC wants to play the game! Second half vs Dundee, all those academy lads in. They've been coached to play his way, he said so. Fast & fun to watch eh? That type of play is our future under his guidance and remember that style of play brought us our only league title in past 13 years! This Gaffer needs our full backing.

John Palmer

I've never been so unenthusiastic to watch my Team play that after I reluctantly turned the game on for 20 mins to then turn it off and check my livescores App for the progress. I seen us at 3-2 and it didn't even spark an emotion and when I seen the final score, it felt about right based on how we fell away after the Motherwell game. I'm even more unenthusiastic about the Cup Final as all I can see is a pure hiding for us and yet more embarrassment poured on the Shit Show we are right now. Clement will sadly have the first 3 months of next season to get us into the Champs Lge as well as start the season on fire.

Craig Scott

We need to be aware that they will catch up and take over our 55 league titles unless we get our act together

Charles McIntyre

Another disappointing league season for our Club but Heart and Hand is always a place to go for a little pick me up. Thanks to all the contributors.

Michael

Theres not a player in that squad safe from the transfer window apart from sterling for me. Even butland, if the price is right for any of these players then we have to take the money and let clement/koppen re invest.
