Jack Butland was fantastic all season. I felt the England international call up snub may of slightly affected him towards the tail end of the season.

Shame Robs audio is so low. Good shoe though

Good listen guys, I agree either way most of it. There’s been a lot of talk this week about people remembering Lundstram for Leipzig, it feels like a long time before I get to that point personally. I agree with Iain that Clement was too invested in him, but in PCs defence he didn’t have much choice because Jack was perma injured and whenever Raskin started he was generally poor. I do think though that it took a bit too long for PC to realise that he’d chucked it. I think that was one of PC’s few major errors. I don’t know whether to be happy or worried about Raskin in the cup final. On one hand he looked great and the team was much better for that, on the other hand I can’t help wonder where that player was all season. I really hope we get Garcia, because him, Raskin and Dio would be great in OF games. If we can find the right partner for Davies I still feel he can be a very good player for us. Also we need to ship out some of the raft of almost-but-not-quite number 10 (ish) that we’ve accrued; Cifu, Todd, Hagi, Lawrence, Dowell. If we could effectively exchange that lot for two more rounded options (or, more realistically dump 4 and gain one star) that would be massive. Thanks again, lads. Good pod.

Agree with pretty much of all the panel’s assessment of the current squad for me. Jack Butland would have been a 8:5/9 if he didn’t have a poorish end to the season like the rest of squad. Clement now has to put his stamp on this squad & can’t keep going back to saying where this team was when he took over.. That said he has a tough job along with Koppen,he has one window instead of the normal 3 to make us a regular league winning team.Tough ask but we demand the best from everyone all the time.

On Cifuentes, I don’t actually know what he was supposed to be. Wasn’t mobile enough to be a box to box midfielder. Wasn’t physical enough and didn’t seem to have a range of passing to be a holding midfielder. Didn’t seem skilful enough, get forward enough, or create enough to be a number 10. Was just filling a jersey pretty much

James McSween

Agree with the point on McGregor, We need players that get in his face and in his head. To many of our players crumble around him and get bullied and wound up.

Great show guys - really enjoyed it 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Not to mention Beales comments about Cifuentas taking us to the "next level" 🙄🙄🙄

Great show guy's, but can you please try harder to get all the volume levels more equal, Rob sounded like he was whispering, Ian was ideal and Andy was shouting. .... Otherwise a great listen.

Enjoyed the show agreed with a lot of what was said which was balanced by and large. As an over arching comment I am neither as taken by or as annoyed about our players as most. I tend to come across as negative about some not because I think they arent any good I just think we tend to overhype them to a level they haven’t reached. By the same token we are desperate to slate guys who do very little wrong given their talent levels, its always fair to say a guy isnt giving us what we need or that we need better but not sure certain players arent being judged on what people expect them to be more than what they have demonstrated is their level. For me personally Butland wasnt as good as is made out by many, a great shot stopper no doubt but the spilling of shots back into the middle of goal was there all season but only really cost us at the end. He was an upgrade on end of career McGregor and the contrast is obvious but I wouldn’t have him player of the year simply as to my mind thats what you get from a guy of that stature and it’s why he earns what he does. Souttar by the same metric for me deserves more praise having come back from a bad injury, being messed about in terms of position and having a lot of changing parts around him constantly. What I like about him most however is that if he makes a mistake he isnt doing what others do and looking around for people to blame, he’s generally annoyed at himself. I suspect that the criticism around him diving in, which is fair, is how the manager wants him to play. If Clement isnt looking for him to be the aggressive ball winner he would tell him to stop. Unlike others it’s clear that is the type of defender he is and thats his role. Compare and contrast with Goldson, a guy I always thought was vastly over rated, and its hard to understand what type of defender Goldson is, he’s not good in the air, he’s not great one on one, he isnt a tackler and his positional sense and pace have never been brilliant. The praise he seems to get is that he ‘leads’ and compliments the other defender but I’m not sure thats enough. Sterling I would say was player of the year and worthy of a 9 rating. Attitude, effort and application all excellent. A young guy focused on playing his own game and contributing and a real shining start in the making for me. Love the way he gets about the field and I think the way he has moved from academy starlet to first team regular is exemplary, he would be the first name on the sheet for me and always in midfield forward, I think you lose so much of what he brings shackling him to a defensive slot. If he could develop is passing a bit, which isnt as bad to my eyes as is made out, he would be an excellent 6 for us and could easily go box to box.I think we forget how early in his development he is and there is lots more to come. The other guy I really like is Diomande who I would say was an 8 rating. Fearless and brave using the ball which we really lack, his drive has been noticeable in a really stayed and static midfield that creates very little and offers no threat. I love the way he gets stuck in and is willing to battle to play and I can only see good things for him if we get the right pieces around him. Lundstrum is a player I dont rate or really like as he frustrates me. I wouldn’t give him more than a 5 at best and I totally am at odds with the idea that saying he has been poor over not only the course of his time with us but this season is ‘rewriting histiory’. he started the season under Beale too slow and too negative hiding in defence, he had about 6 games with Clement where he played they way you would expect a guy of his ability to and on the front foot then he dropped back off a cliff probably costing us the league with the sending off. I am hard on Lundstrum not out of dislike of him as a guy but I just have never rated his contribution for many of the games he has played or even for huge spells in ones he has been decent, its patchy stuff and not consistent. The slowing down of play, the passing behind players, they hiding at the back, the junk passing 10 yards to a guy then taking it back to pass it sideways nonsense happened far too often. I genuinely, bar maybe 6 games, didn’t see him dominate his counterpart in midfield effectively and the idea he was phenomenal at points just doesn’t jibe for me. He is a talented guy who has many good attributes and we got to see those in flashes but he is miles off the consistency we expect and to me personally was meek in how he played to the point of being cowardly. The rest of the ratings I wouldn’t disagree, what will be fascinating is if we can show some coaching ability with the young guys to bring them to the next level. Boys like Sterling could be the real deal on a level that we got from Bassey but on our recent form we haven’t got a great record of developing players, its all cookie cutter buys in and sales out. Great listen gents.

Andrew Meldrum

Just got to this. Good show. The Diomande/Kamara comparison is very good. Hadn't thought of that. Diomande already better at shooting though!

Alan Stewart

I can’t disagree with the views so far. Definitely time for Tav & Goldson to move on. I also agree with the views on Raskin. For me, he was the only midfielder to rattle McGregor in the last 2 games. It’s no coincidence that McGregor was booked in both games when Raskin was on the park. I hope he has a good pre season and hits the ground running. I also have very high hopes for Diomande. He is a player.

Great pod, although can’t hear a word Rob was saying, he needs to speak up
