In Part Two, Rob and Iain return with Andy B to continue the review of season 2023/24 and the player ratings. Now it's the turn of the Wide and Forward players and as you'd expect, there are not too many top marks to be given.

A couple of mil for kieran Dowell is a spectacularly mental take.

Angus Mackay

Interesting show, lads, thanks. I agreed with many of the assesments. One thing I can’t wrap my head around is that Lammers is done despite showing subsequently what he can do when played correctly. I’m not saying that you’re misrepresenting the view, I just don’t understand the view itself. Before his confidence was ruined by the Beale imbroglio and constantly being played out of position, he looked really good in pre season. Whoever buys him off us around the 5-6 million mark is probably going to make a lot of money. Before his confidence collapsed he looked considerably better than either Danilo or Dessers (although the latter is a notoriously slow starter). If we’re left with those two for next season I think we have problems because for different reasons they’ll need games to get up speed, and given fan expectations that doesn’t seem like a luxury we have. I wasn’t deeply convinced by Danilo. He has great movement but his touch was erratic and his finishing was often worse. People seem to have largely forgotten the latter point. Whoever the new striker is, is probably going to have to hit the ground running. As usual 🙈. Also - gable end of a fiver, that is patter worthy of Steven Harrigan. Top marks 🤣

Please tell Rob to turn up his microphone.... As I mentioned last week the levels are miles out, really detracts from the enjoyment of the show. .. sorry lads...

Alan Weir

The conversation with Dessers ends with “He’s not good enough.” The fact he’s a nice guy or scored 22 goals doesn’t matter if he’s a significant part of the reason we failed this season. We’ll pay a heavy consequence if he stays in any capacity next season.

SR

Need to sort the volume out, great pod from the two I could hear but could only hear mumbling from the third

Craig McWhinnie

You guys are wrong about Lammers aye it probably didn’t help we played him out of position but he’s been pish in every league he’s played in bar dutch

Craig McWhinnie

Also someone has to turn their mic up 😂

Craig Mcvicar

Any chance we can get Rob a new mic? He’s consistently quieter than other podders whatever show he is on!

JimGLW

Honestly sick of hearing that he is a nice guy haha. A mental thing to even bring into the equation.

stevan castrissios

Stark and frank, cold light of day conversation. The club need to bat clever with signings. Clements first window.

Derek

Super Ally missed chances, all strikers do. But the narrative that he missed loads is a false one. Comparing him to Dessers is ridiculous.

Blair Flynn

Couldn't listen any longer than a few minutes with difference in volume from the podders

Bob MacCallum

Can't believe 2 of you gave Lawrence a 6. He was a bit player. Did he even play an entire game? If he's a 6 then Lundstram and Cantwell should be 9s. Cantwell especially excites the fans, is mostly fit, scored 8 and shows energy and grit. Compare that to Lawrence. Dowell and Lawrence should be 3s. They sum up our pathetic recruitment.

Iain Campbell

All good strikers miss chances because they get into the areas to create them. The comparison was based on this. Super was a natural finisher, Dessers certainly isn’t

Gary Muirhead

Almost crashed my car yesterday, turned the volume up on Rob so far just to hear, then Andy started talking and I shat myself

Derek Lang

Sound quality is dreadful in this podcast. Is there no quality control prior to distribution?

Heart and Hand

The sound is now fixed. If you downloaded this, delete, then re-download and it will work.

The universal with the support is that no view is universal….especially on the merits of players. Agreed by and large with the frank assessment of the middle to front and pleased to see a bit of realism and restraint around guys who some would have in the hall of fame after half a season where they had the odd good game. Roofe is a joke of a player and his whole career has been one of a flash of performance and most of any contract on the injury list. He’s the forward version of Jordan Rossiter and a negative nett contributor. I know there are loads frothing and desperate to hate Dessers but I would not only keep him but find him a partner and put some faith in him. Badly utilised by Beale and hung out to dry like Lammers sections of the supports desire to paint him as a dud just doesn’t bear scrutiny. He scores a decent number of goals in a team lacking confidence, consistency or creativity. He scores different goals and despite the narrative he scores important goals and against our rivals which many others recently haven’t. The flawed argument is he doesn’t score every chance or he doesn’t score the goals i think he should, which is basically I don’t like the guy, I went early on him and I’m not changing my mind or giving him any credit. Guys not being Michael Mols, Negri or McCoist reborn seems to make them duds. Compare and contrast to the myth of Danilo. The boy started poorly, got a few goals (missed a fair few too) then got injured. He seems to be this years garlic bread and despite a bad injury will automatically smash it this year. Be interesting to see if he’s also a dud if he can’t have a 1:1 conversion rate of shots to goals or he doesn’t put in over 22 goals. Very much aligned to Iain’s view and take on the squad, sorry bud that’s a damning indictment for you, and enjoyed the discussion and chat as always. Excellent show 👌🏼

Craig McWhinnie

Yeah he is but stats don’t lie he’s been pish in every other league he’s played in, like I said I accept we didn’t help the guy playing him out of position but there’s no evidence it would make any difference

Steven L

Good listen over the 2 shows guys. Some very generous scores but it’s all a matter of opinion. Hopefully this time next year it’s different.

Alastair McGeoch

Listening to this has been quite cathartic and I also think shows the job Clement did in getting this squad touching distance from a treble. With hindsight, I think when the squad failed to bounce back from the Ross County defeat against Dundee it surprised Clement and I think he had a few games where he tried to turn to the wider squad only to see the dearth of quality there. Last season came down to fine margins in the end and we just didn’t have the quality in the squad to get over the line. I do wonder if with a proper pre season players like Cantwell, Lawrence and possibly Dowell can offer something going forward but to be honest, I can’t really think of many players that if we were offered cash for them I would be sad to see go.

Stigger

Great two pods lads. Very interesting on views which I think we all pretty much agree with. Totally agree on we need an out and out first choice striker and can’t see the other two going. Danilo needs to prove. Thanks

Gazza G

Pretty sobering. Would be interesting what the scores would have been pre-Ross County when the treble was a go-er. So much of this game is mentality when the going gets tough.

JimGLW

Lammers scored twice for us, I don't think we can refer to "some of his finishes" as a significant multiple.

ali t

Interesting and damming, in theory we got very close to a treble but the ratings on the squad so low..
