Iain is joined by Zander to look back on a big opening night for the hosts as Germany breezed to a 5-1 victory in Munich. As good a night as it was for the Germans it was an awful evening for Scotland, and the boys look at the good aspects of the hosts as well as what went so very wrong for Steve Clarke's side.

John Smith

That was a complete and utter embarrassment. Steve Clarke should be getting the sack after that. Tactics and players totally wrong.

Barry Drysdale

Still have no idea what the tactics were first half and what they tried to achieve. Worse than hopeless

John Smith

Why would you ever start Adams ahead of Shankland ? I can’t comprehend it. McGinn and McGregor were both atrocious

John Smith

Porteous was having a decent game until his brain fart

Brian Rae

That was coming. Look at some of the players he's picked both tonight and for his squad. His dated tactics have no place at this level and worryingly, Clarke thinks or probably thought that Ryan Porteous is capable at this level and for that alone, should see him out the door when Hungary secure 2nd place in the group.

David Innes

Clark has taken Scotland as far as he can

David Innes

Gilmour should have started in place of McGregor but it wouldn’t have made much difference to the result

Gary McFarland

Our fans would do anything other than mention “us” regarding Scotland, despite the fact we’re a Scottish club, actually quite sickening, “Steve Clark’s team” fuck sake

Stephen

“Respect everyone, fear no one”. Then play 15 men behind the ball. Clarke can go now.

Jim Milne

This was always the hardest game of the 3. However you can lose and have some self respect. This team peaked in the qualifiers. I get there are injuries which made the right side weaker, but the selection of McGregor ahead of Gilmour and Adams ahead of Shankland was like watching an Andy Roxburgh or Craig Brown Scotland. Same auld shite with starting spots given to favourites instead of the better player.

Colin Mathie

Clarke/McPhee were arguing, maybe McPhee thinks he can do a better job, which lets face it, wouldn't be hard.

David Booth

Disagree with the view that it was obvious Gilmour should have started. In retrospect- yes he should have. But before the game I felt a half fit Mctominay, McGregor and Mcginn was the best way to go. Simply to physically compete off the ball. The fact is they didn't and that's on the players performance rather than the selection for me. 7 attempted tackles between them (3 successful) says it all

Tamus

So funny

Thomas scroggie

Ralston is utter dog shit shouldn’t even be in the squad never mind starting and the keeper is suspect for me

Bixby Snyder

The players shat the bed. It was like watching Andorra play Germany. I think the line up was okay as well. Adams, Christie, McGinn is Clarke’s version of a 4-3-3 but then they didn’t play tactically at all to suit that line up.

Ryan Macdonald

Showed why clubs down south haven’t been in for McGregor. Cruises it up here but the levels are different.

Graham Hendry

You’re only as good as your weakest players at the very highest level. And when you play Ralston, Porteous and a lad who plays in Saudi then you know you’re in deep trouble

mark wyper

We are not winning a game at this tournament I don't think we'll even draw a game . When do the clowns that run out game seriously have a look at the state of football in our country.

stefan strzelecki

When” port a brain” made that tackle , my mind immediately went back to the preview, were Hoggy stated he was a bomb-scare defender, who shouldn’t be anywhere near the pitch against Germany . Now this serves to indicate that the fault for last night , was we had the wrong manager in the dugout.

John Mackay

Deschamps swallowed his pride in the WC final after going two goals down in the first half, hooked two players, and changed shape and tactics. Clarke should have done the same last night

Rona Bluebell

Oh Iain, you sounded so deflated at the opening statement

Luke

Souttar is well clear of Porteous, let’s be sure of that. Embarrassing he gets picked.

George Higgins

Apparently it was when we got a free kick and men went up in the Germany box. Mc Phee told them to take it short instead of lumping into the box. Needless to say Germany won the ball off ten men and went up the pitch. No wonder Clarke went tonto. Bigger wonder is why McPhee gets to dictate things like that !

Douglas Innes

The thing about Porteous is all his footballing life whether youth or when he broke through at hibs he's been commended for consistently making that challenge and praised for it , he'd actually got the ball with his right foot there was no need to lunge with both .... problem is that it's instinctive and even he can't help it as it's part of his DNA

stefan strzelecki

I can’t believe that Clarke didn’t take a leaf out of Atlanta’s defensive strategy, against players with the trickery of Florian Wirtz . You need to win tackles , just as , of all people , Roy Keane suggested, to have any chance of building a platform for a result . The exclusion of Billy Gilmour is a consistent trait at major final matches , by Clarke. Feel sorry for the tens of thousands of supporters travelling , to witness such tactical ineptitude. Don’t worry , mick mulfanny is eager to get a contract sealed by the mercurial genius , it may well have already happened. Shankland , and Gilmour are a must in the next game . At the expense of McGregor . The serial loser, who seldom performs at upper echelons of club or international football.

Gregg

You can’t polish a shite - he’s not a kid any more. This is who he is

Robbie McCarroll

Game aside…The commentary, Rules interpreter and refereeing where top class miles ahead of SPFL, thing is that’s all easy things to improve on but we won’t…was relaxing watching it knowing you didn’t need to worry about the tinpot side of our game.

ivor swan

The 5 at the back doesn't work we don't have the quality in wingback.... should play a 4 2 3 1 and try and kill ir before it gets to the bang average defence

Slubbs

Once again Porteous showed what he is,an absolute fucking daftie. The whole team was appalling. Not 1 player would get over 1 out of 10.

JimGLW

Agree on Porteous. A scandalous, look at me, challenge that needlessly let everyone down.

Stigger

I’m far too lazy but maybe someone else isn’t 🤣. It’d be a good idea if future signings or prospects were playing a wee post from u guys would be good so we had an interest on viewing 🤷🏼‍♂️🥳

Liam Johnson

Can’t stand Clarke but can’t see what else he does regarding Hanley coming on, we had 2 touches in their box, need to take your forward off n damage limitation. Wish we had a fullback as “average” as Andy Robertson 😂

Douglas Innes

McTominay shouldve started in Christies position with Gilmour in McTominays , was always going to be important that when we got the ball we retained it , when we did get it we simply didn't have thw confidence to hold onto the ball , the Swiss and Hungarians will now know to press us into mistakes because they'll get joy from that
