This is a massive blow. Will mean either away matches or alternative venues.

CLUB STATEMENT

RANGERS has recently been advised of a delay in a materials shipment from Asia which is likely to have an impact on the programme for the completion of the Copland Stand works.

It is therefore expected, unfortunately, that there will be an impact on matches at Ibrox at the beginning of the 2024/25 competitive season.

The club has engaged with the SPFL and UEFA in order to review planned contingency arrangements. Naturally, everyone at Rangers is deeply disappointed with this news.

The club is working intensively to ensure that all steps are taken to deliver the project at the earliest possible date and a further progress update will be issued to supporters in due course.

Stephen Strong

Probably Bisgrove who signed the contract with the material supplier......

Elaine Campbell

Well..... Who could have seen this coming eh? 🙄 The state of the club worries me greatly at the moment.

Rod

Surely just close the Copland?

chris smith

Oh that’s going to be a bit of a shitfest then with, potentially, away trips to Killie, the Sheep and Herts in the first 3 or 4 games for out brand new young team …

Gregg

Can we play at Murrayfield please 🙏🏿. That would be much more convenient for me.

Mark Harvey

I think there will still be cranes on the pitch. The surface probably won't be great when we do final return.

William Alston

Whilst these things can happen, they happen to us a lot. See that it's a club statement, maybe we can have a statement from the guy that's in charge to tell us what he's doing and what measures are going to be put in place to stop these things happening.

Maca82

With the exception of man united is there a worse run club than what we are? You would have put the house on this outcome. Good Rangers men is not a measure of competence.

John Smith

Hampden or Murrayfield

Ally Cliff

Shambles. Doesn’t come as a surprise either

Ross Matheson

Can't use Hampden until September. That's a non-starter. Ibrox with a reduced capacity is possibly a better shout but that will really impact fans ability to attend and causes the club a real financial problem.

John Smith

Similar thing happened to Hearts a few seasons ago

Maca82

Yea probably just unlucky like various NEH issues around time and cost, awful recruitment strategy, court cases coming out our ears etc

John Smith

Murrayfield I think would be a good experience for the fans. European games I think would make for a good atmosphere there

Gregg

I expect the job would be sub contacted out - with someone on the board having responsibility to report on the project to the board. Whilst this is sadly not uncommon just now - I wonder if there are contingencies/ penalty clauses within the contract for completion delay.

Gregg

Similar - Hearts just forgot to order the seats though 😂

Gregg

Murrayfield all day long - was great when we played hearts there. Ideally if we could just move permanently - I’d like that

Ross Matheson

Delays and costs associated with NEH were often beyond the clubs control. It was the same on many contracts during the time in the country and still can be. There comes a point though where the management of it isn't right. It's also not just in the construction projects for the club. Every single department seems to have a completely amateur hour far more often than it should. It's "questions really need to be asked" time.

William Alston

I would hope so but I would like to hear the chairman actually come out and front this up and tell us what's going on instead of hiding behind a club statement. Silent treatment never works

Brian Rae

Whether it's building work or legal issues, it all seems to go the same way. This current project has such a tight timeline that there was absolutely no room for error. Why wasn't the materials ordered and shipped earlier to avoid this type of scenario? I'll also add that going without proper home advantage in the champions league qualifiers potentially risking over 35m is simply unacceptable. Fail to prepare etc.

John Smith

Even if we just used it for European games it would be brilliant. I love Ibrox but Murrayfield is the best stadium in the country

Kirk Guthrie

Jesus. Red flags about the upcoming season already 🙄 it's a shit show and not even July yet. I hate to be a pessimist, but after roughly 30 years of supporting rangers this gives me a bad feeling...

Glen Kane

Amateurs. Embarrassing but not unexpected.

Andy MacArthur

Shambles… If this was a one off incident I’d understand. However off the field the club seems to get caught up in these sort of things constantly. Delays to NEH, court cases etc. The club needs to give the support an indication that they learn from mistakes. Starting the season away from Ibrox gives us an immediate disadvantage. Amateur hour from the boardroom once again!

Scott Davidson

A mate of mine who's an electrician was working in ibrox and told me last week there was no way the place would be ready for the new season, so they've obviously been biding there time to release a statement.

Gregg

I’m thinking this could be a massive plus - gives the new players time to bed in before playing at Ibrox. People getting a wee day out might be in more of an upbeat mood at the match. It’s all good imo

Paul Kerr

Disappointing, but they haven't delivered anything else on time so sadly not surprising.

Andrew Heaney

Is there a case for just doing all 3 stands now, playing at Murrayfield for the season and not risking the same situation over the next two summers?

Jordan McKay

A delay in materials isn’t our fault but Chris Jack is reporting that someone is leaving the club over it, so it appears that this was still avoidable.

LMcGrath

This comment is pathetic. These things happen in building works all the time. Get a grip.

James Milliken

The club/board are lurching from one shambles to another. Giving everyone the chance to mock us and put the boot in. Becoming untenable....

Jock Paterson

Oh dear, disgraceful. Should come with news of a sacking.

Mr J K Murray

difficult to find information of de who' the construction companys are,who the architects companys are,who is supplying and where were they made before shipping, why is shipping the overall reason for non payment of skilled steel fixers, seat fixers,is a paper chase for just a small number of seats in the scale of things, is it snp or chinese interefence, can still play at Ibrox depending on the state of affairs regarding the whole, if it is in delay are insurance should say we can state where to play,

Graham Jones

Bisgrove will get the blame for it, because that’s how executives operate. When you have a certain amount of money filling your pockets it’s never your fault. Blaming someone who’s left is an easy out for them this time. They won’t say it, but they put the rumour out there and let it circulate. At the end of the day, it was a club failure to plan the building work properly. Failing to order supplies properly in the timeline is just amateurish beyond belief. Could you imagine the chaos if this lot decided on stadium expansion? It would be carnage. It has to be Murrayfield, I guess, but the lost revenue is the thing that will hurt us, and they could have grounds for damages on that basis. Of course, any professional outfit would have contingency plans, instead of suck it and see if it goes to plan. There will be a price to pay for the hire of any stadium at this point, and any party may insist on a cut of the revenues instead of a flat fee, because it’s Champions League.

LMcGrath

Have you people never heard of delays In materials for building works before? Happens ALL the time. The responses here are pathetic. Dread to think what ff are saying as this place is usually sane.

Charlie Nicolson

Contingency plans should already be in place for this eventuality. These would have included discussion with UEFA and Scottish football authorities with view to neutral venue matches or front loading away games in the league.

Colin McPherson

Another example of best in class for all to see. We are joke on and off the pitch.

Brian Bamford

Just looking at the pictures you could see work had stalled. I had a feeling something wasn't right and predict this would happen before the project had begun

Ross Matheson

Working in the industry, it absolutely does. However, at the same time, projects are still delivered on time and in budget on plenty of occassions. We just always seem to land in the late / over budget element. It's not just this (or NEH) that the board find themselves having issues with either. Far too many departments in the club are coming up way short beyond the football side of things which is a clear failing for too long now. The board have questions to answer.

Andy MacArthur

I’m very aware that things do happen in building works. However it has been reported someone at Rangers has just lost there job over this. If this was just a typical delay and no mistakes were made then nobody loses their job

N_E_B

We aren't very good at construction projects.

Maca82

In isolation I’d agree, projects tend to run over etc across all sectors. This isn’t an isolated fuck up. It’s one of many on and off the park. At some point we have to ask why.

Ross Matheson

The Asian thing doesn't wash though. Deliveries from there typically take 5-6 weeks. If they were known not to be shipped before the works started in the last 4 weeks, failing to delay everything on that basis is a bit of a neglect of duty. There's been comment that various things have been behind over the last week or two. Not all of that is based on material delivery. It seems to just be a project that couldn't happen in the time frame and the two firms who rejected the chance to take it on on the basis they said it couldn't be done appear to be vindicated.

Ross Matheson

All true William. At the same time, they would have known this (if doing their homework) and the work shouldn't have started if it was the case there was potentially a delay in materials. Diving in and ploughing on with it all has caused an even bigger issue. Given the short time frame that it was all happening in, it's not like they can say they were well underway and were caught short with surprise news. "Sh!t happens" is all well and good and it very much does but it seems to happen to us too often.

Scott Davidson

He'd said his company had been off the job for 2/3 at that point when I was with him because there was 'delays' but he never said anything about supply issues. He's a celtic fan as well so I was hoping he was just at the wind up 😅

N_E_B

The worry is a Jordan Rossiter situation & 4 weeks becomes 4 months.

Graham Roy

Yes true however the fact that someone from rangers has lost their job suggests issues with how we done this not the supplier!

Ecky G

No doubt whoever has been sacked will end up taking us to a tribunal and win. Such is life at Ibrox and the way we seem to operate nowadays.

DRKMN

Some wild takes in here. Global shipments / routes get delayed, this happens all the time. Football clubs aren't immune to it. I'm pretty sure the buck stops with the construction company. I can't see club staff ordering building materials directly from Asia!

Steven L

Any talk of a reduced capacity ie just keeping the Copland closed needs binned now. I like many more pay for my seat, I’d be 100% be looking for a rebate on the value of my seat. Either look for away matches or play at Murrayfield. This is a complete shambles again from the club.

Gregg

If they have subbied a job out and someone within the club has decided to do this, they deserve sacked. I’m assuming the project manager that’s allegedly been binned is an external one.

Colin McL.

If we can’t switch fixtures, it should be a reduced capacity at Ibrox through August and then move to Hampden, if necessary. It would be ridiculous to have ‘home’ league games at Murrayfield. No away support at Ibrox will at least offer some seats to those in the Copland. Of course it’s not ideal but nothing is.

douglas easton

Don’t think there is any good outcome here. Hampden seems to be out, travelling to murrayfield will be a pain, especially if there is any midweek games. Closing the Copland will mean me and thousands of others miss out. Be interesting to see what happens

eardlean

Bonkers that we would proceed with work without confirmation materials are available. Total cock up by the board.

stefan strzelecki

Tata steel made the decision to close their steel making operations, at port talbot , to diversify their business for net zero . The UK is now wholly reliant to steel imports from China . This has been well published from the beginning of the year. This should not be revealing information to the senior executive board of Rangers. It reiterates the lack of business acumen to manage our club successfully . There may be individual entrepreneurs, who can excel in their own dominion with competence . It’s obvious that many don’t have the foresight to manage a majestic club such as ours. Got to say , I said at the time , when Bisgrove left us in the lurch , that his contribution to our club , was nowhere as positive , as was being polarised by our community , and wider Rangers fan media . The board who hired Bisgrove , have observed , as custodians of our club , the building fabric of the club , literally being deconstructed, without oversight , planning , to ensure adequate replacement materials were wholly accessible within the Uk , to ensure the fundamental elements of the business , is sacrosanct. Are these board individuals competent enough , to prevent the recruitment another snake oil salesman CEO? We must attempt to get the national stadium . It’s inconceivable to expect the majority of our supporters , who live and work in the city of Glasgow , to travel across the country , with their duties to employment and family. The board hired an incompetent CEO , who has been in it , over his head . They need to make the right choices going forward.

Peter Hosie

Still believe 3 stands is better than moving and we just need to take the hit as we need all the help we can get to get into these CL Groups and that cash or once again we’re fighting with one hand tied behind our back.
