David and James discuss a fairly crazy game in Germany. Rangers showed some excellent attacking qualities but some deeply concerning defensive ones too.

56 is back on the table

james whyte

Could make an argument for every defender in our squad being sold. Which shows how bad it is. We need a few CH in ASAP imo.

Calum Robertson

Definitely the beer talking but the travelling Bears were magnificent, picked a hell of a match for a 1st Euro Gers game

Scott Tolmie

Much better today, best I’ve seen diomande, baron and dessers also very good, in a real game first 2 Union goals would never have counted with foul in lead up to 1st and 2nd never a pen. Much much better.

Brian Rae

More desire shown today but that defence cannot be what we start the season with. Jefte is only 20 but looks miles off where a 1st team left back should be, he looks like a winger filling in at left back TBH. Sterling injured again and beyond any doubt that it's a regular occurrence. We cannot rely on him unfortunately. Diomande like looked sharp and the much maligned Dessers took his goals well. Sign more players!

Peter Hosie

poor poor planning re Jack’s strip

Billy Forrester

Leagues are won with a solid back 4. Our defence is a shambolic mess, gives me the fear. Offensively we looked very good however that defence is no where near good enough and will get PC the sack Time to invest in 1 if not 2 Centre Halves

chris smith

We are in desperate need of a 6 and a 5. That is all.

Jim McCutcheon

Thanks guys excited and feart for the upcoming season 🤷‍♂️

Greg

Come on ffs , if dessers could do it all the time he wouldn't be playing for Rangers.

Graeme McLeod

This team is going to struggle to beat Hearts next weekend, never mind win a trophy. The defence is shambolic and we're relying on players who we all know shouldn't still be at the club for goals.

Russ

The same Hearts that got pumped 3 going on 8 by Fleetwood? I'm nervous for it but I still fancy us like.

Russ

I've seen Tav take a slaughtering a few times off his winger but not like that. He was roasted from the first minute until he came off. Barron and Dio are what we deserve after the last few seasons watching our midfield.

Craig

Don’t agree - there will be more movement with transfers and we are Rangers. Yeah it’s not brilliant - but I’m of the opinion that the Man Utd game was a contractual obligation, Birmingham are a good team and Clement was testing things - today was a decent performance and with a Cerny on the flank it will be a massive difference alone.

Stephen

I agree about Barron and Diomande. They seem to take risks when passing it forward which I quite like. Doesn’t always work out but it’s a bit more direct than the usual boring and slow safety first approach of the past few years.

Nom De Ploom

I hope RTV's geoblocked in Saudi.

Russ

Also, players only develop by playing. We'd talk ourselves into letting young players rot on the bench otherwise and God knows we've done that enough.

Luke

Tav can’t start next week.

Mr J K Murray

watching who was the worse team, can Jack not organise a defence, not much to say except we are going no where as a team

Andrew Carter

Thee very best tune for a long long time , AW ❤️❤️❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

Tamus

4 games No wins 176 goals conceded Captain is brutal Goalie not far behind Bring on the new season Same as the last one Only worse

Gregg

If the team talks isn’t, right lads, it’s hearts. We are over thinking it

Ewan Christie

At least one centre half must be the priority this week, if Tav starts against Hearts we’re in trouble!

Allan

I thought Tav's body language today looked a bit off, which was in direct contrast to the gaffers post-match interview. For me, he looked half-interested at best.

David Kiltie

Some encouragement from today. Ironic that the two goal scorers are both players many saw as having no future with us. As David explained about Lawrence, his lack of legs and pace can be accommodated if the system is correct. With a younger and faster team this season, and in particular the energetic duo of Barron and Diomande in midfield, then Lawrence could play a role. With Lammers already gone, Cantwell’s departure a matter of time and with Lowry not showing anything this far, then if Lawrence could fill the no 10 position then it would free up cash for more pressing areas - up front and central defence (an absolute must!].

Heart and Hand

Somebody said to me that they thought Lowry might have ended his Rangers chances with that 45 minutes at Birmingham. I dunno about that but he certainly is miles away.

Allan

I think I heard the gaffer say in his pre-match interview Sterling was scheduled to play but picked up a muscle injury. Again!

David Kiltie

I certainly hope not. It would be very sad if Lowry’s Rangers career was to peter out. What is clear is that in the short term he can’t be considered as a starter.

Billy Forrester

Will he get any better, he was loaned to hearts and wasn’t great and couldn’t get a regular start, I don’t think that lad can cut it for us unfortunately. He isn’t a young player anymore, if he could make it he would certainly be showing up more

Graham Leatherbarrow

I suppose any 4-4 game ensures attacking was better but defence was poor but full backs are gift wrapping chances

Graham Leatherbarrow

Every bunch of Hammer throwers will be looking to replicate their first goal which we have seen on too many occasions last season, incredible to get a goal with all our defensive failings in one sequence, hopefully got them all away in one game. Diagonal cross balls and corners should be worked on again and again and once more.

Scott Watson

It's been 2.5 years since he made his debut and we've barely been able to get 11 players on the park for a lot of that time - several managers clearly don't rate him Hope to be proven wrong but all evidence suggests he's not making it with us

Tamus

Beyond Scunnered Billy, sick of the mismanagement and lack of transparency from those at the top of the tree. We made a fortune on Bassey and Patterson Our strips look racing driver overalls there's that many sponsors on them. We buy buy and buy again all the strips and training gear. Weve had huge European runs of late But we've no dosh. NEH was late (and it's too small) The G51 pub (late) The ground upgrades (late with no projected return to Ibrox) We are a f**king shambles from top to toe

Stephen

No chance we'll see that back 4 in a competitive game. We need a replacement for Davies pronto. Can believe I'm typing this, but I'd start Balogun and Souttar. I think Jefte will be fine, but needs some time.

Billy Forrester

I agree pal, we are poorly run and it shows in all aspects of the club. We are years behind them lot across the city and if they really chose to they could spend and put us another 10 years behind. It’s a fucking shambles but what can we do, we just follow on in blind hope. Best part of 1000 a year for ST and My Gers and it’s just depressing but we keep going back in the hope we can witness change. Loyal we may be but we are also fucking depressed

Billy Forrester

Luckily Ridvan is first choice and Jefte gets time to grow and learn as if he was needed now we be in trouble, he seems raw and can’t defend . Saying that with Ridvans injury record he may be playing before we would ideally wish 🤦‍♂️

Spoon

Lowry isn’t up to it, time to bin the sentiment and accept he isnt anywhere near the standard end of. Fuckwits who have bad attitudes need not apply, Cantwell, Lowry et al should take note.

Tamus

Taken for absolute mugs My parents are both ST holders Theyve sat in the same seats since 86 Theyve paid their STs as per They won't be attending Hampden People stand at Hampden, they are not fit enough to stand for 90 mins Plus they always get put behind the goals near the front where they are often bullied out their seats by the balaclava wearing pyro mob who don't really pay much attention to seat numbers or allocation. The club has their money though and they don't give a fuck

Ross Baird

I feel for Cortes. First of all he’s looking better with each game in terms of final third, I like him. For me, he’s been a victim a Jefte being very poor defensively and their 3rd goal was a great example. Jefte’s positioning is terrible. He’s went inside when he should be passing man on to Davies. With that type of diagonal, there is no way that your left back shouldn’t be in a position to shuffle over while ball is in the air and head that ball clear - at the very worst be in position that when wide man controls it he’s there to defend 1v1. Wasnt on Cortes. We can’t expect Cortes to produce in final third if he’s burst from constantly needing to sprint back that distance.

chris smith

1) Done with Tav, really don't want to see any more of him. 2) We will get horsed on the break by every jobber mob in Scotland - never mind Europe - if we play with Tav, Jefte and Lawrence in the same team. 3) As a matter of urgency in terms of signings with the first few games in mind we need to concentrate on buying 5s and a 6. 4) Thereafter, get Sima at all costs.

David Baillie

Totally agree on the centre half situation lads. Way too passive, too quiet, too soft. We need defenders who are quick, aggressive and vocal. That was the first time yesterday I have actually seen Davies talking on the pitch.

Charlie Nicolson

Centre half situation: I wouldn't be desperately disappointed if we sold Souttar. I believe we need two first pick centre halves

Scott Kerr

2 centre backs needed asap but at least one before next Saturday. Defence is awful 😞

Iain McHolm

Souter gets away with making more mistakes than Davies because he's considered a rangers supporter

Iain McHolm

Is ridvan capable of staying match fit to be first choice? Unfortunately the lad has the ability but I fear he doesn't have the body for the job

Scott Tolmie

Exactly, you pass the man on, you don’t ask the wide player to constantly cover 60-70 yards, my wide players would be in trouble if they were in the own 18 yard box

Granters

I think we start against Hearts with Sterling in for Tav, Yilmaz for Jefte, possibly Balogun for Davies, Cerny on the right and maybe even a new 6. That’s a side that will beat Hearts comfortably. Thereafter i would expect to see at least 2 more starting 11 signings.
