Happy that Jordan is a no go - too many questionable aspects to it for me. Whittaker thing is bizarre given likely cost - I’d rather have Sima if we have a decent fee to spend. McKenna would be a good short term shout - £30k a week seems a bit rich.

Paul

Great show boys. I have to laugh—only in Scotland would we describe a 23-year-old as 'still a bit young.' As Mr. Edgar recently pointed out, you aren't a young player at that age! New CB needed regardless of age. Quality is all that matters.

David Innes

Refuse to believe we couldn’t have secured a starting centre back by now - should have been our number 1 priority.

100% agree on Jordan bud and on Sima but not keen on McKenna for purely ideological reasons ! I can see the profile and player type being a good fit but just can’t bring myself to like a guy who has actively slated us in the past and we know where his true leanings lie. That being said he wouldn’t be the first guy to come onboard and buy into things, prefer him to the Dutch guy who I just think is a punt when McKenna has the pedigree in this league. Conflicted about it but not for any rational reason.

McKenna likely won’t get that sort of money again, that he’s been offered to us (and them) indicates a willingness to meet halfway on wage. If we are serious on him, it really should be straightforward when Goldson is finally confirmed as gone.

Gregg

Makes sense - not ideal given he’s a bawbag but could be a hold your nose type scenario, if we can use the money elsewhere

I think the fears around Shankland are largely unfounded, the guy isn’t pacey but he is fit and mobile plus he’s proven to be robust. I personally think the focus on half a dozen Euro games is a red herring when we should be firmly looking at our bread and butter where Shankland is proven. Having a guy with proper dig and drive in the front line is essential and while I actually quite like Dessers I accept he isnt a great fit for the system Clement is obsessed with shoe horning our squad into. What Shankland has shown at Hearts is that he is a leader, he will hunt the ball down, he will get into tackles, he will get in the refs ear etc all things we are desperate for, in many ways he’s a more prolific version of Arfield and in similar vein he is excellent at linking play and arriving late. He can also hit set pieces which we are struggling with and with Tav going we need a new Pen taker, he would be ideal. I personally think he could also play the 10 role if we wanted to put the young boy up front and the idea of him linking up with Danilo is exciting. Can’t agree with Cammy in terms of we can do better, I dont think in our price bracket and with the very specific role Clement wants the striker to play the choices are particularly plentiful. We tried putting in Lammer and Dessers who regardless of our fans opinion on them were decent strikers, technical and scored goals but for us it’s not enough unless we are getting 40 goals from a 9. I think we are miles off the reality of what a few million gets you in the striking market, i dont believe we are an attractive option for people in terms of locale or league and attracting top talent would only come through the spending of ridiculous wages on a young or older striker, we arent getting a goal machine in their prime….with his return and proven record in Scotland the only reason we are even talking about Shankland is the boy is clearly desperate to be here, he could easily go down south and get the same wage we ware likely to offer. Shankland, like Dessers, isnt perfect but he is a better fit in terms of profile and style than the strikers we have. We have no clue how Danillo comes back this season, where he is physically or mentally and I would rather have Shankland there to rely on than a punt from Honduras or some other far flung league who’s a ‘hot prospect’ its a percentage play, its lower risk and to ignore it just seems thrawn.

Has the Cifuentes deal actually gone through or is that still just a link?

Doogz

I get that it might take right up to the end of the window to get certain deals done, but the board are selling the manager short if two or three aren’t added to beat Thursday deadline for CLQ.

Simon H&H

Looks like he’s away to Strasbourg for €8m. A front for Chelsea basically 😂

Robert White

Spot on. If he comes and plays well as one or two of them have done, our need in greater. At least he's a Scottish internationalist.

Billy Forrester

It doesn’t seem likely that there are many clubs willing to give McKenna 30 k per week so I imagine if he was offered say 20 -22k per week with us it would be enough to get it done on a 2 yr deal or so, he is better than what we have, he is commanding in the air and is fast for a CH. is Goldson actually away as he flew out the weekend and nothing heard since, very quiet on him
