Ronald Fraser

Better…. But the result did mask a lot of issues. This squad is threadbare

John Smith

Let’s hope we use that goal to kick on and not mess it up on Saturday

james whyte

Here is my thinking. When Clement played for Coventry he got a bird pregnant. That child turned out be Tom Lawrence. Only explanation for it.

KennyY

Big difference tonight and a lot of positives. Everybody did their bit. Big Dessers workrate tonight was excellent and he deserved his goal.

Jim Milne

I'll listen to this tomorrow, but I'm hoping there are lots of puns and rhyming words from Colin that makes Cammy roll his eyes! Ha.

Robert White

Fast passing. Forward passing. High press. How can they do it against quality opposition and not vs our leagues turgid teams? Utterly baffling again.

8luenose1872

We need dio in the 10 with sterling and barron in the middle, barron and sterling have the potential to boss any cnt.

james whyte

Would like to think the manager is thinking the same but I have my doubt. Get an experienced no 6 in, Sterling at RB probably longer term thinking

RfcBazza

Sterling and Barron holding. Dio as the 10

Ross Guild

Wasn’t terrible that. Poor spells here and there but coped with the game well enough. Should be a better 11 and a home roar next week to get through. Trust in big Phil

Andrew Hind

Good result, decent performance something to build on

Stephen

Not sure that performance deserved the full Oasis treatment. Maybe Beady Eye or one of the more recent Noel solo albums😂

Baz

I actually thought that was one of Ross McCauslands better games tonight he looked much more comfortable on the ball than he has in recent games. Proud Northern Irish man tonight.

Mark Boyd

So this seasons whipping boys are gonna be souttar and Lawrence? To ignore tavs shambles outside souttar on the right all night is bizarre. And Lawrence is the player that will knit middle to front currently. He has the quality and composure that no other player we have currently does

Heart and Hand

Souttar is a bombscare mate, nothing to do with whipping boys. I think we’ve spoken about Tav plenty over the summer too, but Souttar’s non-performance at the goal was nothing to do with him. Just other people’s views.

barry jack

Get shankland in is a must …… we went wide second half total dif gane Also get tav tae fuck his hearts not in it

Martin Sutherland

I haven’t listened but I agree on both points. Lawrence was a non event the entire evening. Key reason Dio and Barron had to be subbed

Ronnie Gallacher

Think you are over critical of Dessers, seems you expect he should score with every chance, not happening, not even the very best do that. He had 4 chances from memory, the 1st was difficult, the 2nd he was offside so probably doesn’t count as a chance, the 3rd great save and 4th he scored, pretty good if you ask me.

Greg

The last minute goal was wonderful, a boot in the stones for those who can't get enough of all the snide giggles dessers debate.

Doug Young

Bit of a stretch calling this upbeat! I went into this game expecting a doing and was pleasantly surprised. Good shifts from a few and yes, some errors, but I think you are being overly critical here. Concentrating on errors when Souttar and Ridvan did some really good things too. Lauding Barron when, while he was very solid and I think will become a great player for us, he also made some poor passes. Wright on the left was never going to work. Jefte did more in that game than Matondo in his last several and I thought Cerny had some lovely touches. Tavernier was awful again and not for the first time, Dio had to cover his arse. Dio too had a solid game, biting, covering, spoiling. This gave me a lot of hope, especially with others to come in. Some signs of a plan and some actual heart. Here's to the next one.

Graham Roy

Think he was trying to being someone in (Jordan) but my concern is he seems to stick to the number 10 even though I don’t think we have the players to play that way!

james whyte

It looks like that. All managers have a way they play I suppose. Can only hope with a few new faces they system gets firing. Was some decent play last night and a good result. Not all doom and gloom but we can be so much better. I hope!

Martin Boyd

Colin was way out with his comments . Apparently that header means he will not do , yet he scored more goals last season than Miller ever did, Novo only beat that number once , Morelos twice in fact I don’t think Jelavic scored more either. Only Rangers players who I have watched who didn’t miss those sort of headers were DJ and Hateley , McCoist had a head like a thruppenny bit.

Ryan Stewart

A nice moment for Dessers. Happy for him as he seems like a proper good bloke. There’s one thing you have to praise him for and its that he never hides and always comes back for more despite missed chances That being said I thought on the whole in the game Dessers and Lawrence were absolutely atrocious again and how they’ve lasted 180 minutes in the last 2 games is beyond me. If we play out this season with either of them as starters we won’t be successful, so far short of what’s needed in terms of general quality and physicality CB/CM/10/ST are absolutely essential before the window closes

Colin Mathie

I would've given motm to Dessers just for the goal tbh.

Doug Young

And I do appreciate I haven't rewatched yet and may be caught up in the fervour of not losing, which probably says more about us at the moment than anything else. haha

Nikky Cairney

Disagree with Cammy on Lawrence. He is a down off the ball and Dessers has to do all the running in the front press. His fitness won’t get better than it is now. He just can’t run or press. Agree with Davie on Souttar, seems to get away with all the criticism they Goldson and Davies got last year. When in fact Souttar cost more goals than both of them.

Ross Guild

Agreed. I’ve tried and tried on Souttar and he’s just not very good. He is an SPL defender at best and that’s not going to change at this point.

Russ

For the first 35 I could SEE what we were trying to do, then the howler and the team lost their heads for 30 mins either side of HT. I've been critical of Clement but the man can't kick the ball for these players, if it's breaking down every time it hits Wright, Dessers and Larwence then what can he do? Outside of better selections sweet fa. He desperately needs better attacking quality.

Jonny Burnside

Very pleasing to get out of there with a 1-1, if we’re honest, Kyiv are a bad lot and, in a normal year with a team that’s prepared, we should be getting through comfortably.

Cameron Bell

Appreciate the numbers but I’d be happy to criticise any of them missing from two yards out to be honest Cammy

Spoon

I am biased and have my favourites in the team and those who I just don’t rate, they aren’t the same ones as many on the forums or the podders. I don’t particularly resonate with the focus on some of the guys in the pod or on here but I think the fact there is such a spread of praise and blame sums up the quality of what we are working with. The tactics Clement seems to favour, to my mind anyway, work far better in Europe than domestically. Still think the set up leaves the striker isolated and the defence a bit vulnerable but it’s difficult to unpick what’s structural, what’s player limitation and what is just the impact of the other team doing their own job well, I enjoyed the game watching it, not perfect some frustrations but I thought Dessers played pretty well all night, his hold up and link up was better again and while DK weren’t a top notch side they weren’t mugs. One thing I totally agree with is that despite sometimes contributors seeming negative we all want to believe in the team, individual players might be able to do no wrong / right but we all just want to see a team capable of going on a run and not letting us down again. The disagreements to me are mostly borne of frustration not sensationalism or a desire to be negative, there are extremes but in general peoples views come from a genuine place. I haven’t been impressed by Clements rigid focus on his system, I still don’t believe some of our players are helped by his tactics but I give him credit tonight as by and large it worked. Thought every one contributed and while we still have individual error there was a bit more slickness to things. The subs worked out and each one made us stronger or more solid which is what you want from them. Good night for the manager. I think as it stands we could probably knit a pretty decent first 11 when all are in and fit. The concern remains that depth of squad and the quality drop to the second string, not sure a few signings change that but perhaps that gets us to January and we try and improve a bit again. A much better night, really think we need to work out a way to get two strikers in domestically particularly against the teams we know will be stuffy like Motherwell.

Iain Campbell

Scott Wright was a total passenger and completely hid. Watch him at the goal just casually trotting back. Compare and contrast with McCausland, who worked tirelessly defensively

Ross Matheson

Yeah, let's not forget we've been witness to Sebo, Jeffers and James Beattie. I don't think he really considered the words coming out of his mouth until it was too late. Saying "he's as frustrating as anyone we've ever had" (given he has some actual ability) might have been a better way to frame it.

Ross Matheson

Yup, I've no issue with Souttar (or even Wright to some degree) as guys in a 25 man squad who can play 10-15 games a season and cover in emergencies. Them starting regularly is just a symptom of where the recruitment has failed in the first XI since Gerrard left.

Ross Matheson

I agree, Baz. It just requires DS to get himself fit and available. It's hopefully something that happens soon...but does need us needing a right back if he's not taking that on then.

Ross Matheson

I agree with David on the Scott Wright points. It's not his fault he's starting and we shouldn't be relying on him 3 years in either. He should be playing a Greg Stewart role of 10-15 games a year when we can rest other players in early cup games or late on in games we're cruising. He's purely in due to Cortes's injury. What I would say though is that the reason the manager did it last night was purely down to options. He might well have come off 5 times in 24 games at HT. Last night though, what else is the option? Start Matondo on the left? If we'd done that we'd have been having this same conversation and saying "we know he can't start games, he's aboslutely clueless in terms of tactical positioning and he shouldn't have played at all" It all comes back to the absolute bin fire that our squad is just now. It's got to improve before September 1st. It'd be a positive miracle if we could get the cash for getting to the P/O round and reinvest it.

Doogz

3 times in the first half Lawrence was caught on the ball sleeping, leading to Kiev countering on us.Souttar is just doing what he has throughout his Rangers career, mistake after mistake, not good enough as a first choice centre half.

William Hughes

Went from, can't watch Dessers for another season to, great player, always said it.

Mark Wilson

A fair assessment as always. Cammy needs to stop saying “listen” all the time though!😂

Revan1872

The analysis of the goal seems to be a bit of ignore the error from the guy we like and focus on the parts from the guys we have doubts about. It wasn't the main point of error but Barron sells himself completely for the goal by diving in and getting nowhere near the ball leaving our defence more exposed

Niall MacKay

I might be over thinking it, but is there not a lot of support for Russia in Serbia? If so then would add as an increased incentive for Dynamo in games against Partizan? If not, and I'm wide of the mark, then I'll stand down!

Ross Guild

I agree on Barron, however I feel he’ll learn from that. This is constant with Souttar, he doesn’t know to mark, cover or block and does none of it. I never feel like he’ll learn from that and likely to do the same again down the line plenty times.

Revan1872

I hope he does. He looked good outside of that error but I do think because a lot of fans like the look of him they will gloss over any errors. Given that Souttar is almost 28 now I think you're right in that this is who he is as a player. He will still have some good games but overall I don't see him improving greatly going forward

Heart and Hand

You're not wrong, no. Also Partizan chose to play a friendly in Russia before the tie which, as decisions go, was crazy!

Mark Boyd

So I’ve calmed down 😬 I do think the criticism of souttar is OTT. Defending is a group action and I think that’s often ignored. We are certainly very disjointed at the back but feel there is an over focus on souttar atm. IMHO

Michael

Why do you spend more time talking about Dessers negatives than what he has done well!! Compare his time with Beale with Big Phil. Then delete the Beale period from your mind. Your conversation will be quite different. You all need a wee bit of CBT.

AGS

“D’you hear there” as said in the Royal Navy is quite natty

Gareth Williams

I think Dessers is limited, 1 in 4 chance taker. But I also think he will get 25+ goals in all competitions this season if he stays fit. Our biggest issues are a fit competition for him offering something different, and a lack of goals from everyone else in the team. If we had more goals from midfield, we wouldn’t be so reliant on Dessers conversion rate improving.

Niall MacKay

Yeah, so maybe that has really motivated the team to give it everything. They looked knackered at the end last night too.

Spoon

I agree Mark and the constant churn and change change of personnel can’t help. Souttar like all of our players isn’t as bad as is made out, some aren’t as good as they get hyped and at our level we won’t have perfect players sadly.
