The people called it - instead of a light and breezy Hamper - a Rangers Life or something - the focus demanded was on where we are and the aftermath of "that" last Sunday.

Hoggy is back and tries to make sense of where we are, what this means and tries to look ahead across the next couple of months.

So many questions and contributions - the rest will be taken into next week, along with the Rangers 11 question.

And Just Giving page for Sandy Mclarty https://www.justgiving.com/page/sandy-maclarty-1725022106192 - please contribute what you can, even a quid! Sandy is a top man and running this 10k for all the right and best reasons.

William Noble

Matondo out 3 months Danilo 4-6 weeks

Alastair McGeoch

Looking forward, we know the stages of the rebuild we need to see. Stage 1 is making sure we are beating all the other teams and making sure we are a secure second. Stage 2 is to beat Celtic. They may have more money in their squad etc but we won’t play them again in the league until December. So let’s forget about them for now and focus on holding the 5 point gap (or hopefully eating into it). Hopefully, they may fall into the Advocaat era issue we had where our focus turned to doing something in the champions league and we took domestic results for granted. Rogers has spent nigh on 30m this summer, if they still take their usual beatings in Europe he will be under real pressure which could be something we can exploit. It may even take focus of Rangers as we rebuild giving us the breathing room we need.

Rangers offered Hagi this lure of extra money to attract him to the club in the first place We have welched on it Youve said a few times he asked away Who wouldn't Youve been promised a payrise at a certain juncture Then the club throw up barriers to prevent you hitting that target Its not a good look for Rangers and it's not the 1st time we've done it (Michael Ball) Rangers are an absolute joke in so many aspects at the moment

Simon

Completely agree. Why should Hagi sit down and negotiate a pay cut to play. If it is the case that we’re not playing him because it will cost us it has to be damaging to our reputation and could potentially cost us signing players.

Rona Bluebell

Calm and sensible words, most welcomed and much needed at this moment. Football can change very quickly so let’s hope it’s for the better

Hoggy

They are a joke - agreed. But a contract is a two way thing and both entered into it. Ianis Hagi is under no obligation to re-negotiate. Rangers is under no obligation to play him. If he wants to play and put himself in the shop window? Re-negotiate. If not? Enjoy lessor clubs than Rapid Bucharest.

Hoggy

So much for Michael Beale being the problem with injuries!

Tamus

Rangers promised him if he it 100 games he'd get a payrise Rangers are actively stopping him hitting this target Its a disgraceful way to treat a player

Granters

Don’t forget the inevitable ‘needs time to get up to speed’ on top of those timelines.

John Smith

Hagi has been treated pretty disgracefully for a while now

JimGLW

If only Hoggy "being positive " was the solution we all need... Sadly Hoggy, if anyone has a working pair of eyes they know there's not much to be positive about.

Having the stomach for a rebuild is one thing, which I believe most sensible fans would have, but having the confidence in clement as the manager to do it is another. Our form since March is abysmal, 9 wins in 22, I believe. He’s not learning against them, now 5 without a win. I just feel we’re a couple of poor results away from the toxicity of beale’s tenure. I hope im wrong.

Ronald Fraser

Maybe…. But struggling to remember the last game he played well and actually earned his corn 🤷🏻‍♂️

Ronald Fraser

Radical idea…..Hagi could actually play well …. Somewhere…anywhere. He’s getting paid well for very little return . I think he knows he’s on the way down as will his future pay. Proven by the amount of teams NOT in for him atm

John Smith

Think injury has played a part also. Just seems to me ever since Beale he’s been totally disrespected

Spoon

The group think seems to be. Because he made comments about leaving he was the one who wanted to go, from all I have see or read first Beale then Clement made it clear he wasn’t wanted. The contradiction some suggest about him being desperate to leave to me is as simple as he was told to seek life elsewhere, at that point what did people expect ? Bad management of a player for me, the telling part is he is still playing and training so his attitude isn’t in question. I take on board the questions around his level or fitness but those are side issues. We have a squad bereft of talent and he at least has that.

Spoon

Danilo is the new Roofe. We never ever learn. Hopes and dreams piled on a guy who’s a black belt at physio. We need to stop pipe dreaming about the guys we sign. Our market is the level below in demand players and relies on excellent coaching, something that is raising huge concerns given how we regress and don’t develop players.

Spoon

Clement made it clear he has no place in the club, how does he renegotiate that bud ? I’m all for the manager calling the shots and living (or dying) by his own decisions but I’m not sure how Hagi makes Clemennt want him, he is training and playing while saying the right things, what else can he do ?

Tamus

Radical Idea Rangers could maybe honour the contract they gave him and stop being cnuts

Spoon

Enjoyed the pod as always Hoggy. Regardless of the other factors around the club, board, stadium, squad, signings the controllable here is how Clement utilises the players he has on the pitch. He isn’t getting the best out of what he has, don’t really see that it’s even debatable by any metric. He is playing guys in the wrong position, he plays them in ways that nullifies the positives some players do actually have, his set up is currently failing but he seems unwilling to change. Folk can slag our local Scottish managers like McInnes but he sets up teams far more shrewdly than we are seeing. This league isn’t a tactical battle, fitness and physicality negates tactics every week here. He is trying to run a McDs like a Michelin star restaurant. Let’s get back to basics. The excuses we give about this being more intense than other leagues I doubt stands scrutiny. Most leagues have a few top teams and derbies and the rest are just teams looking to survive. We aren’t anywhere close to the ‘big club’ we were. The demand isn’t huge it’s basic, the fans see us sitting with a huge wage bill, top facilities and buying power beyond everyone bar our rival and want to see that replicated in how we play, sign players and conduct ourselves. He must do better as to my view he isn’t coaching people and we see improvement he is basically saying buy me the guys I want and I will put out 11 I think can win. There’s no how are we doing it, there’s no variations or adaptations. There aren’t even his much vaunted automations to see. I get we all want to be positive, I get we still see ourselves as the pre 2012 club but it’s hard to see where the justification for it comes from. These aren’t extreme reactions these are cold observation of the facts as they present. If someone can offer anything other than faith it must get better great. Don’t see it so far, haven’t seen where that faith is based. Just keeping a guy in place as we can’t be bothered to turn over the manager again isn’t a reason to keep him. If we are in a rebuild we need to see something actually being rebuilt, to date we have razed things and now seem to have lost the drawings to build so we are just chucking materials into a hole.

Chris Graham 🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Hoggy my good man I am more worried about our manager than any of the players His tactics and shape are utterly appalling Walter smith took decorated internationals to parkhead on a bus full of Rangers 6-7-8 in a row winners and treble winners and still set up tactically and smartly against good and great Celtic sides Our manager now takes an unproven , won nothing weak linked Rangers side to parkhead , no tactics , no spirit , no shape and goes toe to toe man for man Utterly shambolic and clueless Deeply worried this will get worse before better 9 wins in 22 Wow

JimGLW

What signs of rebuild are there? We are getting worse. Spending millions and getting worse. We aren't holding a 5 point gap either.

John Smith

Totally agree Spoon. Sometimes the fanbase defend the club no matter what. Even when they are wrong. Hagi has more balls and heart than a lot of players in our squad if not the lot of them

JM

Was all too much black pill for me..

Graeme Burns

You forget the discussion around league and domestic cup reconstruction

Keiren hastie

I’m not believing matondos injury one bit, he sh*t himself and it’s all in his head. Sums this group up, weak

Gordon Watson

If the pay rise is £6,000.00 more per seek is that around £312,000.00 annually? Or £600k for two years on his deal? If we’re quibbling about these sorts of figures then we really are in the shit financially - that’s around about the supposed undisclosed fee for Cantwell, isn’t it? F**k me. Is Hagi seriously not good enough for one of these positions in midfield? I’m struggling to understand this line of thought by Clement (or Beale) the more you watch this team over the past year and start of this season. He can’t be any worse, surely?!

Tamus

Imagine you or I starting a new job and they tell you if you turn up 100 days in a row you'll get a payrise Then you do 99 shifts and when you get ready to come in for day 100, your work gaffers have been out and have locked you in your house

John Hood

Nice one Hoggy! So much better when we're talking constructively. Challenges ahead but we need to face them together going forward 👍🇬🇧

KennyY

100% If he didn’t have the Hagi name he’d be playing in the lower leagues. Could count the amount of good games he’s had for us on one hand even if that hand had only 3 fingers. He made his bed but the reality is that he isn’t as good as he or his Dad thinks he is and nobody wants him.

WILLIAM JACK

Enjoyed the hamper as always but completely baffled by the blind spot that everyone (including the Scottish media and even yourself, Hoggy) has to Swedish football and Malmö. Sweden has double our population, Malmö FF are serial champions and have bumped us out of Europe twice and Celtic once in the last ten years or so and yet every time an OF club draws a Swedish team, the whole narrative is that we are expected to win. Do I think we can get a result in Malmö with the current squad and stage of development? At a push with a favourable wind and a bit of luck...yes. Is a Rangers win the most likely outcome based on recent evidence. No. I'm just concerned that this complacency may be part of the reason the OF regularly lose to Nordic nations. Sorry for late delivery of this thought...been a busy week. :-)

Gordon Watson

If it’s over a wage increase at that relatively pithy amount then I don’t get it. If it triggers £1M fee to another club then ok, maybe that makes more sense.

John Palmer

We need to be honest with ourselves and sadly admit that - that lot across the City a far better than us on Paper, on the Pitch, Managment and as a Business model. We're a shambles and have been for years since the 90's where to be honest, we were blinded by the on Field success. There is so much wrong with out Club that needs fixed which starts at Board level and down. Why can't anyone see this and fix what is clearly broken.
