Tune! PS Is this the earliest ever DU? Morning update tomorrow ? 😂

Russ

We shat the bed with our academy and our youth policy when we were in the lower leagues let's have it right. I've said it before and I'll say it again, we should have a monopoly on Scottish talent akin to Ajax in the Netherlands. Not producing your own when you generate 4x the revenue of the team that finished third is fucking criminal really. It's not like Celtic produce stars is it? It's a viable option for us, but alas, the board now just like they were in the lower leagues are scared stiff and are all consumed by the short term. We HAVE to break out of that way of operating at Rangers, and for me the academy as well as the trading model is a way out of that way of life! Sorry for the rant ha.

Jim Milne

Kinda off topic and more related to yesterday's Flagship. I don't email David asking for Andy to do these shows, but maybe I should. Always respect your opinion Andy. I know you said you were done with the Annual Financial shows after we had looked very positive following the 55 & Seville AGMs. After the Beale debacle and where we currently find ourself I'm sure I'm not alone in hoping you'll do a show on our finances this year.

Martin Boyd

I thought Koppens role was more the identifier of players in positions the club require. The bids , contracts etc was someone else’s purview. Lovely daily tale , having been to Madeira this year can confirm it is beautiful.

chris smith

On a role tunewise … Colin is going to spoil it on friday tho, isnt he?

Campbell Maclennan

Youth system. Operate it to under 20 level. Scrap the B team. If kids are good enough we can keep them and loan them. We are burning cash on 20, 21 and 22 year old with no chance of playing for Rangers. All our system does is develop players for Stirling Albion. Been that way for years and years.

Graham Morrison

Excellent update as usual David👍⚽️🇬🇧

Graeme Dempster

Is an academy not a requirement for a uefa license??

Martin Boyd

To me that needs changing as well then. There should be someone ( Koppen) identifying players then someone else doing the money stuff. Spinning too many plates otherwise.

Leslie White

Sorry David linked to Another bloody midfielder, do we never learn. The Scum go for forwards, we go for midfielders, do we never learn who wins games. Also normally our class of midfielders are defensive, no wonder the scum are away out on G D!

Graeme Homer

Klassen rejected us months ago, why is this a shock! He rejected us, Antwerp and Gio at Besiktas. He said after his Everton stint UK football doesn’t suit him and after leaving Inter he wanted to go back to the Netherlands. Cant see how Koppen to be blamed for asking and being rejected.

Heart and Hand

I didn’t, I blamed him for us still needing a midfielder after the window shut. It is, quite literally, his job.

John Smith

Aka Guilty Sigurdson ! Whatever happened with that by the way ?

John Smith

No chance of getting Adrien Rabiot then ?

John Smith

Who doesn’t love getting bocked oot yer nut

Leslie White

And midfielders are predominate goal scorers, any we have signed payers that would win Olympic Gold for sideway’s/back passing. Sadly Steven Davis’s of the world and Rangers minded are few and far between.

Graham Roy

Bajrami is an attacking midfielder. I think our issue is that generally speaking the players we have signed haven’t been better than what he had/have. Celtic have signed loads of forwards that have been gash but have the cash to keep that process going!

Graham Roy

Like the thought of this it draws a line and lets players know you need to prove yourself by 20 or you move on!

Brian Rae

I totally agree about the academy. There's lessons to be learned from similar level clubs in Europe but the main well discussed problem is when players get to 18 or so and they don't progress. Another big issue we've been suffering is inexperienced or unsuited individuals in key roles, some of whom are still at the club We can bring in and develop players but at this stage, we need experience in all key executive and leadership roles at the club. I hope the temporary chairman and in time CEO identify this issue.

Russ

I've never seen it with him tbh. There must be industry wide data that us fans aren't privy to that has led to big clubs persevering with him. He's a nailed on Man Utd signing if ever there was one. All the gear and no idea, a Gallic Todd Cantwell.

mark wyper

Top tune now I will have to go onto YouTube and listen to the rest of it 🎹

Graeme Homer

We went for Jordan and Klassen as experienced players who could do a certain role and neither want to come. Liverpool have the right idea, you pick your target(s) if you can’t get them then you move on to other areas and don’t go chasing random players to fill that gap or you end up where we are with donkeys that aren’t good enough for us and no one else wants. We now just need to be patient and await for a suitable player to come available now.

David

The academy needs to play in an actual league. Whether that is the Lowland League it Reserve league it needs to be something. Playing friendlies is not working

John Smith

There’s a player called Leandro Lopez who I think could be great for us.

Fraser86

In terms of the youth department. They need to bring the reserve league back, young lads playing against proper pros getting back to fitness or what not was really beneficial, they need to blood the youngsters full stop. Give them a try mcausland wasn't a pick from the youth team and he's OK buy I bet there's alot better than him sitting in there.

Mr Ritchie

If a new CEO is now top of Mr Gilligan's to do list what have the board been doing since James Bisgrove left? The St Mirren guy aside there surely must have been a plan B

Fraser86

It's a great vision but when a Aston villa or a Brighton can come along and pinch your best young players before pro contracts it's a big gamble to go with

Stephen

Would cut back the b team to a manageable level then try and buy a young Scottish player with SPFL experience like Connor Barron each season instead. Better chance of success if the player is already tried and tested at this level

Russ

If there was a pathway they genuinely would think twice imo. There isn't one. We've got no poster boy over the last 12 years. You've just seen Liverpool sign a kid from Chelsea for their academy because his family and agent think there's a pathway that isn't there at Chelsea, despite being offered a shed load more. As is we're losing kids because we've got no leg to stand on financially or development wise. At least get the development aspect right, if they still leg it after that then we can say 'we tried!'. We're not even trying atm though.

Colin Mathie

So they knocked Kings offer back, wow shocker! as the gif says.

Heart and Hand

Bailey Rice and Lennon Miller. At 16 neck and neck. One is now worth 3m one at a crossroads. Now, if you are a parent of a 16yo and you look at us or a Motherwell, what’s best for your boys career? Unless we can start to provide evidence it’s us we’re in bother.

Gareth Williams

Cracking Daily Tale Davie. Congratulations to them both!💙

Mr Ritchie

I could see the board telling King to get to if the club was on the crest of wave but from the outside it just feels like they are all sitting on their hands hoping something good just happens. They really needs to step up and deliver or step aside and let people in who can do what's needed.

ally keith

Great daily Tale Mark ..still remember that trip like it was yesterday…20yrs ffs 😂😂 You forgot to say you and Francis held hands all the way back on the flight that night…and she was in the Row behind us 😂😂😂 “im the best baker this side off Paris “😂😂😂

David Innes

Their hit rate is probably less than 50% but since they’re shopping in the tier above us the ones that do work out tend to have a much bigger impact

Mr J K Murray

not the worse result in CL anymore, thank the Lord.

John Breen

What was it. I always thought Liverpool v bisiktas and Madrid malmo both 8-0 was the worst

John Breen

Goldson played his best football in front of zero fans and no pressure. If you know you know

Mr J K Murray

CL Tottenham 2-7 Bayern Munich was another sir, Juventus have lost 7 finals, just elevating moterrola scores for us,

FINLAY CAMERON

Great daily tale but ffs sit with yer Da and learn the Ulster pronunciations, Brow Shane 😆

The issue we have is holding players as kids for far too long. Once they hit 16-18 they need to be playing regularly even if not for 90 minutes. We talk about 20 year olds like they still need their hands held and in our desperation to protect them we actually sell them short. Some of the recent ‘special talent’ guys we have had are in football terms totally immature, Lowry being the classic example. Talent yes, stand out against his peers yes, application drive and attitude required lacking it seems. In fairness to the boy it’s not all on him, if we had given him responsibility and game time to grow in he might have made it. As it is, to my eye looking in from the outside, he seems like a guy lost in the football shadows, not experienced enough to contribute to a team at the top level consistently, lacking game awareness and now too old to be considered a kid and get the slack that comes with that. His peers overtook him, lots with less natural talent, by simply being at clubs who played them, even if only out of necessity. We are getting the benefits of a robust, game mature, Barron but in the current set up we would never produce him through our academy. A guy his age in our club sees at most low double figures minutes a season. The old adage remains true, if your good enough your old enough to play, you might not hit your full potential straight away, you might have dips in form but the experience of playing will make or break a youngster and in the game, cruel as it might be, the earlier you find out what they are made of the better for all concerned. Commitment to game time and a genuine pathway must be our mantra, otherwise we are wasting our time and money with an academy. We are also going to find nobody will sign for us as our record is abysmal in developing talent. The more you look at it the worse it seems.

Graham Roy

Yes and no I think if you look at the ones that have worked they haven’t spent that much more than we have. But they have wasted millions on some gash but difference is they are winning!

Heart and Hand

We went for Jordan who wasn’t interested and wasted five weeks chasing him despite, from day 1, him saying he wasn’t. As for Liverpool, they are dealing at elite level. We aren’t. There are literally hundreds who could have improved us. It’s a failure and it’s Koppen’s.
