Granted we don't see training but I'd rather see Cole MacKinnon or Bailey Rice, when he returns from injury, brought on instead of Dowell. He offers nothing.

Agree with Alex about the atmosphere. I sit in the Copland Rear and even there it was poor(outwith the UB). There was more people shouting at the megaphone guy to shut up than anyone joining in creating an atmosphere. I was also very surprised there was no TIFO planned given it was our first game back with all of Ibrox open. I did wonder if they asked and didn't get permission because the copland rear being open was so last minute.

“A clean sheet because we put a towel down, not because we kept them clean” Has to be comment of the year! 👏🏻🤣

Thanks boys enjoyed that with my missus chucking her 2 Bob in alongside you🤣

Pretty fed up with only turning up against them in France. Let’s do something special tomorrow

Found myself nodding along to Alex a lot during this- -the recent performances are acceptable overall even if hibs wasn’t great -b team level is a mile away from 1st team. I went to the Fraserburgh game and eg nsiala was caught under the ball a couple of times and my takeaway was he was miles off being ready for 1st team

Great preview of Lyon. I have to agree that the great result at Malmo has helped massively and has somewhat reduced the pressure vs Lyon, which would have been huge if we had no points on the board.

Got a feeling Alex may be right on Hagi.

Gotta say agreed a lot with Alex and thankfully a largely positive pod. On Sima, Weir has said we were never getting him as he was being loaned to a club in a bigger league than us. On Dowell, surely McKinnon, Rice or King can do that role or Stevens in a more forward position. On the striker are form badly dipped once we lost Balogun and Danilo last season and once we can get him fit and hopefully he’s not hammered by jobbers again, I doubt we will be so hung up on it.

Graham Miller

While Raskin wasn’t great on Sunday bringing on Dowell in his place cause us to lose control of midfield. He’s a passenger, doesn’t track back and not good going forward.

Starting with 3 points in the bag so hopefully we add more points on Thursday but our fans are still not the 12th man yet...so the Ibrox roar is needing to go up a notch...but as I have quoted before I love the passion of the union bear but at times it seems as if they are having their own party...not enough of the traditional rangers songs that we could join in...and dont anyone answer me and say if they were not there Ibrox would be dead..I 100% agree but we need to ask why..all around me most of them dont sing.once I asked them why the answer was no idea what the ub were singing...I dont mind them having the new ones and deserve our thanks but try and bring in the fans with you...your displays are abso brilliant well done for that...lets all starting to gel....one magical thing is a friends grandson Blake is one of the mascots and has battled cancer most of his short life..a true wee blue hero...have a great night Blake and bring us luck. Thanks for the pod guys...good luck to Hagi hope he shines for us at Ibrox...he deserves some luck for his patience.

Excellent chat as always gents. I would say my expectations weren’t really high for the weekend against Hibs even after the Malmo game because I remain unconvinced the current tactics and set up really work domestically. It’s clear that against football teams we can play a bit of football and a lot of the deficiencies in our players are alleviated when there is space and time to build play. Take nothing away from the team or manager the Euro performance was a good nights work. My issue remains that I dont believe Clements preferred style works in Scotland. I think when the spaces close, when physicality has a bigger impact and when you play one up against a packed defence we get the game we saw against Hibs. Dessers has been much maligned, but with the switch to Igmane at the weekend to me it illustrated the problem is less with the person occupying the 9 that with the expectation on them and the set up around them. I wasnt as impressed with the Moroccan as others were in the very brief cameos he had, thats not a criticism I jut think the narrative around Desssers has created an ‘anyone but him’ mentality in sections of the support. A bit like Tav he has become a panto villain responsible for all our ills when the truth is far more nuanced. What I would say in Igmanes defence, and it’s the same defence I make of Dessers, is that isolating a striker against Scottish defences doesnt work. The slow build up doesnt work as well as using genuine pace and overloading or flooding the box. When you have implemented a style that relies on wingers in a country with heavy pitches, walls of defenders and big lumps who love to head things you reduce the odds of success. Add in that of all positions wingers are so hot and cold then what you are doing is asking for a lot of stars to align to get positive results. I think we need to view Europe and Domestic football as totally different animals, I get that ironically we have gained far more respect than our rivals outwith Scotland for our performances, some of the best teams I watched over the years haven’t achieved what we have recently in Europe in terms of progression and credibility but its been at the cost of domestic dominance. Do we want to be the equivalent of the tartan army ? Taking fake kudos for having glorious defeats in Europe while losing trophy after trophy domestically to our rivals ? I dont, I would rather we focused on what works locally, what players we can brining in to handle and thrive in this league and most importantly we need to start dominating teams in our league not scraping by. We were biomechanics and a good save from a draw at the weekend, we havent played particularly well for some time in the SPFL, certainly not a complete performance of real note. We need to reset and realign our priorities for me. Until we find a way to create and take far more chances from middle to front (and with a few headers from our defenders) we will struggle. We can drop Dessers and put in Igmane and I dont believe much changes, you just put the expectation for 40 goals onto an inexperienced youth player where what we should be looking for is far more from our front 3 or 4 and solid numbers from others in midfield or defence. I think the squad talk is a red herring, it’s not who we have its how we are using them. I genuinely don’t believe Clements style and use of the talent he has is getting the best from our raw materials. I think we have the right to expect more from what we have on the books and I think a change of style is required as this obsession with wide play hurts us. Yes it can be effective against teams who open up (although it didn’t help us in the OF) but it isnt the percentage game, it doesnt control games and with our issues it isnt producing the goals we need regardless of peoples desperation to blame Dessers for misses when others like Cerny, McAusland, Lawerence and Bajrami miss just as often. We need more people in the box, we need more physicality in the front line, ideally for me we go 433 or 442 and get a striking partnership going. I think we would actually see the best of Dessers if he was asked to provide as much supply to Igmane or Danilo (or even better Lovelace) than just put under pressure to create and score every chance. I think this inconsistency in performance is inevitable when your lynch pin is a winger, one of the most inconsistent roles in football. I also dont think the wingers we have are that good, Cerny hasn’t impressed me particularly, Cortes can’t stay fit and McAusland is one of our classic old ‘young players’ who should be much further on in his development given his age but hasn’t played that many games, and to my mind doesnt seem clinical enough in his crossing or finishing. As the defence seems to solidify and guys like Jefte and Barron continue to impress its up front and in our style I see the main issues. It’s fine for Clement to focus on the European stuff and I get how our performances in recent years will have attracted him and some players to the club, but our bread and butter is the league and cups, we are starting to drift badly domestically and I think a refocus and restructure is long overdue.
