Hoggy is back and after last week's positivity, we can pick the bones out of Hibs at Ibrox (at least it's a win) followed by the lesson from Lyon - back to Earth with a bump.

There's also a bit of reminiscing of begone European days - including 38 years ago in Germany, when Davie Cooper was kicked black and blue, and both he and Stuart Munro decided to take matters into their own hands!

If you want to join, hoggy@heartandhand.co.uk.

Enjoy!

Hoggy, as always mate you’re on the money in response Sir! The Copland Collective can be all it wants to be. We’ll never get full on Ultra in Britain, it will be persecuted more than elsewhere. There’s a pod in guys like you, Graeme, Yaco and more on the growth of the Rangers fan scene in the last 20 years. I retired my smoke bombs early to just go over to Hamburg and see the real version that’s not too diluted. That envelope gets pushed, the lads can bring it back in the coming weeks.

We couldn't move Dessers on. So if we'd used that £4m Cortes cash (which few grumbled with at the time) we would now have 4 strikers all of a similar standard - is that a good use of limited resource? Hoggy, you and the boy emailing in are complaining about physicality. Last night's pod it was a lack of composure in front of the goal was the issue. If players had physicality, were clinical in front of goal and could play football - then they wouldn't be playing in Scotland and we couldn't afford them! Every player we sign is going to have obvious deficiencies.

Think you’ve made a mistake with my question Hoggy as no way can that be 38 years ago as that would make me old! 😮

That pyro nonsense is going to cost us thousands of pounds in fines and possibly the Copland front closed for the Steaua game - which might affect that result. They should be warned that if that, or any other dubious conduct, happens again the UB will be banned forever. There are plenty of fans who'd take their seats. Most of them don't even look as if they're watching the game. We don't need them. If the team is performing, the crowd will be amazing. If it isn't the UB singing won't make any difference.

Hoggy, your description of McCausland's style of of play and ability doesn't match what I've seen of the boy. Still, he'd give us more than that dud Cerny who thankfully is only on loan.

Good show Hoggy, agreed with much of it. I’m as big a fan of Tav as anyone, but the evidence is irrefutable now; in the harder games I would play Nana who looks very solid defensively. I agree with Richie though, given the virtually impossible hand the manager had been dealt, were exactly where I expected us to be at this stage. I’ll never understand people getting upset at what gets said in press conferences. Any competent manager defends his players in public. It was a sure sign that Gerrard was running out of ideas and control when he started throwing them under the bus. Lots more could be said, but I don’t want to be long winded again. 😛

Schmeichel isn't as good as Butland? Hmm 🤔 The Butland of a year ago, maybe? The Butland of here and now, that's nonsense, in my opinion of course.

Remember the old “special match application” vouchers well. Ways to guarantee a ticket were 1/ Send your check, voucher and SAE in a brightly coloured envelope bright pink for example and the staff couldn’t help but be drawn to it. 2/ The nuclear option which was to send cash, you always got a strongly worded letter from the ticket office but you always got a ticket as they didn’t want to send cash back through the post.

The attendance was about 41k on Thu night and we'll be lucky if it breaks 30k tomorrow night. I wouldn't be too sure about all these fans desperate to take their place...

It might be a sign that I'm getting old, but I just don't get the Ultras stuff. They just seem to me they are Ultras first and Rangers fans second, they have no regard for the good of the club and only care about themselves. The setting off fireworks in a home European game was absolutely brainless, and Rangers will get punished for it. And we all know that it won't make any difference to the UB, they will do it again without a second thought

Great pod. I fear the "rebuild " is a myth and another Clement soundbite. There is no evidence of any strategic rebuild or change. As for Dessers...Clement going into a season with him as his no.9 says it all. He'll get what he deserves for that.

A lot of the fan media reaction after Thursday was a bit extreme I thought. Last nights Extra was the first thing i listened to that was balanced and this as well. The seeds seem to have been sown about Clement at the start of the season and now they’re being watered. I’m starting to think there are Timothy propagandists walking among us stirring this up so we change manager every October. Cerny! Before the game against them everyone was saying how good it was to have a quality right winger for the first time in years. Now he’s pish and has been hounded off of social media. Why do we do this to our players after 5 minutes. Everyone just needs to calm the fk down.

Allan Fowler

If the manager starts Tav and Cerny on Sunday night, I don't think he will last the season.

That 1986 game away to Borrusia Munchengladbach was my first Europen Trip. 4 of us from Shawlands went on the bus from the Tudor in Paisley. A funnel and a hose for when nature calls at the front door of the bus. That fell out the door before the border of England. Back then I could take few days on a bender, eventually reaching a crescendo of singing and spewing at the same in a bier keller. The Rangers were brilliant that night. Coisty hit the bar, and several good chances came our way as we bossed the game. Strange refereeing decision against Stuart Munro and Davie Cooper cost us the game and progress. Sound familiar? The journey back was an endurance test. Would do it all again tomorrow!

Cant help but think the optimism around what to others are real red flags, flags that have been present around player profile and playing style perennially now for some time. Our signings as it stands do not seem to be the right profile or fit for whatever system Clement has decided will work in Scotland. Pointing a a few months when we have a new manager bounce doesn’t excuse or mitigate what we have seen since. I like Barron but he has now been the stand out of our summer business. While energetic, terrier like and performing well he is undeniably lightweight and small so even our good players are deeply flawed for domestic games. I’m now utterly bored of hearing how everyone has to be patient as we ‘rebuild’ every 12 months it’s a joke and getting to be a twisted version of the emperor’s new clothes where you aren’t allowed to say what you see or the group think slates you. The usual suspects who get the heat are miles off the problem for me, our issues sit with the transfer policy and set up which I continue to have real concerns about. The reliance on loans also needs to stop as it just tests things each year and gives us more business to do where a permanent player would offer more stability. Think we can be expecting far more from a team and manager than ‘wait until the end of October’.
