Injuries worries me also, great pod guys

Rona Bluebell

I get what you’re saying and why, but jeez that was depressing 😢

Simon H&H

To be fair, they were questions from you guys 😃 Just trying to answer them all as honestly as we could. Wish I could see some positive steps, but deep down, I think most of the fans realise how this ends sadly.

Rona Bluebell

You need to get your endorphins up, do some exercise or equivalent. This transition is tough but not insurmountable. A decent striker would, I think, transform us as we do get a lot of goal chances. We are not finishing third!!!! 😊

Simon H&H

A striker would be great. Just depressing to see Dessers, a guy we’ve tried to get out the club over the last two windows still sitting there as first choice

stevan castrissios

That was quite scathing but appreciate you guys are being realistic. For me, the manager has to stay for another three transfer windows. If he has the stomach. It would be devastating to the club if he left. We are building. I have the patience. I think the analogy is muscle memory, in getting the team to play how he wants. Trouble is, he is attempting this with the square peg in round holes because this is all he has. We need to at least finish second though. We as fans need to be realistic.

Rod

We haven't conceded a single goal domestically since parkhead so I feel the centre back criticism is harsh.

James Curran

Thanks for answering my question guys. I do agree with your point if we continually get beat Clement will be gone as would any Rangers manager. I’m hoping we can just make Ibrox a fortress domestically to start with this season and take it from that place. I agree about Hagi, he’s far too good to be a B Team player and already with one assist he’s contributed more than Dowell for example. We need as much quality as possible

Rona Bluebell

Great pod though Simon. Really appreciate the effort all H&H podders put in. I would defend all of you viciously against anyone external 🥰

DukeNukem505

I think Clement is a good manager but he has been hampered by a lack of financial support to overhaul the squad. The January window will be massive.

DukeNukem505

Get this new manager chat in the bin. We don’t learn.

Angus Mackay

If the manager had played a more defensive team Lyon’s quality would have overcome us anyway and then people would have been saying it was a free hit, why didn’t he at least have a go. Simon said, quite rightly, at the outset it was a free hit, so what are you going to do with a free hit but have a go? The tactics worked, we made the chances; they had the quality to put them away, that was the difference. Our support is actually delusional at this point and we’re rapidly becoming our own worst enemies. The response in general has amounted to paying lip service to the at least x10 resource difference on display last Thursday and then talk about what happened in the game as if it’s scarcely a factor. There is zero realism, it’s the stuff of fantasy for the most part.

Graeme Homer

Can we stop suggesting Shankland, he’s shite and was never going to win us anything and his form has been dire for a while now and if he was as good as many make out he would be down south. The reason we didn’t get a striker has been explained budget! We’ve Danilo and Dessers taking up the bulk of wages set for forwards, last year Roofe was there taking a late sum too and we’ve replaced him well with Igamane but could have done with getting a fee. The rest of the negativity is absolute Timmy porn.

James McSween

Good pod guys, you where both just pointing out the issues that most fans can see and this will cost us in more of the big games than not.

Gordon Millar

Well said, couldn't agree more.....this dash to replace Clement is self defeating and is bringing the club down, yes we have problems that needs fixing but it takes more than 1 window.

Hendi

You said in the pod we have downsized. We haven't been good enough to compete with Celtic for years. So why would you expect us to be competing with them after a downsize? What Rangers player would make the Celtic line up? Butland at best. They're miles ahead, so why would you be deeming the manager as a failure for being unable to compete with them? A continual stream of unrealistic negativity.

Fraser Stewart

Painful but mainly agreeable Pod thanks lads. Audio was very low on each of my two devices, had to use headphones.

Hendi

We get beaten by them because every single player they start with is better than every single player we start with.

David Ferguson

Agreed, a few hot takes on this one. John Bennett mapped out in the summer that we have to spend at least £10M less than last season and that’s before we take the Hampden outlay into it. Don’t need to trust the manager but we have to get real on where we are. This is 05/06 on steroids

Hendi

Spot on, but some folk don't want to let facts get in the way of their tantrums.

Jamie Gourlay

Thanks. I prefer the Q and A section following the discussion rather than only talking about post and next game.

Elaine Campbell

Well..... That's fair cheered me up 😂😂 There's been a real negative sea change on the network this week between this pod and the car pod from last night.

Doogz

Audio was terrible.

John Smith

I’ll make a Muscateer of you yet Simon

Alastair McGeoch

Clement has to some extent create the rod for his own back. When he came in, he made pointed digs at Beales pre-season, the fitness of the players and said every player bar Butland was available at the end of last season. Do the players look and fitter are better coached than Beale? - not at the moment. Are we still losing players to injury in each game we play? - yes. Do we still have players in the squad Clement said could leave in the summer? - yes. Have we spent what limited transfer budget we had well? Too early to say, but not looking too promising. Then he told us we won’t see our best team until Oct/Nov - no real consistent signs of progression at the moment. This is in comparison with the Aberdeen manager who has come in, implemented a style of play and made what appear to be some shrewd signings. Obviously, the bubble could burst for them at Parkhead in next week or so but if Clement is going be here and be successful he really needs to do less talking and concentrate on showing us on the pitch that things are progressing/building towards something. We’ve heard enough talk from him, he needs to start walking the walk now.

Ross

Still banging on about Shankland lol. Unreal. When was the last time we spent serious money in January window? We don't have any cash in January. UEFA and season book money comes in spring / summer which is what we spend in the summer window. Our cash flow has been that way for decades now. Not difficult to understand.

David Kiltie

You mention how well the Sheep have started the season. If I can play Devil’s Dick Advocaat - imagine if Rangers had started the season with 7 wins against the same teams, same scorelines, same circumstances - would we all be ecstatic? Would narrow wins over St Johnstone, Dundee or Motherwell excite us - hardly? If we won in Dingwall with a 98th minute winner, having survived a missed penalty and a goal overturned by VAR - I shudder to think of the comments on Follow Follow and H&H. A late win at Ibrox against a 10 man Hearts team who were just back from Azerbaijan - we would hardly be doing cartwheels over that. Maybe Aberdeen will push us hard for 2nd this season- they have certainly improved under Thelin - but a bit of context is needed.

Darren Ure

I’ll be honest had to turn this one off. I’m not saying everything is sunshine and roses but I think you guys were far too negative.

Spoon

Agree with majority of the comment by podders, as reality is this isn’t currently working. Clement might have a plan, the might (with the right players) manage to craft a really decent team in the style he wants. My big issue is not about players and whether they fit his style it’s more that I don’t believe his style works domestically even if he does get all the players he wants. I don’t believe Clement or a lot of other modern managers are in tune with fans, particularly in leagues they haven’t played in. We know what works in Scotland, we know what type of players succeed here and which ones don’t. I don’t believe in the manager as I think his plan is deeply flawed and he won’t ever get the calibre of player he needs to make a winger system work in a league of packed defences and physicality. I think his manager speak is becoming Beale like and it’s edging towards insulting as what we see isn’t what he says. The biggest red flag is he isn’t getting the best of what we have. We have flawed players so we need to support them, not hang them out to dry. This formation and style must be hell for the squad. Constant change, over reliance on guys and an obsession with Europe that just takes focus from our bread and butter. I’m bored of certain players getting all the flak when they are to my mind being thrown under the bus. I want Clement to succeed as it means we succeed but I can’t see the route map. It’s getting to critical with how we go on this season, the signings have been bizarre in terms of what we actually need now versus the future the money spent was spent badly, again. I am bored of hearing we need patience for a rebuild when each season the rebuild doesn’t happen but is still used as an excuse. Blind loyalty over the years hasn’t worked well for us as a support. We need to normalise being allowed to have concerns and voicing them without it being seen as simply negative. Worrying times, most worrying though for me is the back room set up. Who is actually coaching players at the club, what are we working on, who is being seen to be developing ? I don’t even know these days who the folk on the bench are coaching wise or what the actually do. It’s no coincidence our best spells recently have been when we have had a modern coaching set up, sports science, analysts and proper coaches. The off field stuff seems a shambles and faceless.

Jamiedfa

A “ haddy” not heard that saying in years, brilliant!😁

Lindsay Bell

I appreciate that it was in the immediate aftermath of a shocker but I think this was too negative on PC. The club is a shambles from top to bottom. We clearly took the opportunity in the summer to downsize the wage bill and didn't have the money to invest in the squad because we gave it all to Beale and any players of value we've had to give away for peanuts. PC has been left to pick up the pieces with one hand tied behind his back. There's nothing to suggest he's going to chuck points away against the other teams in the manner being suggested here and Europe is always going to be hit-and-miss - Leverkusen took us apart under Gerrard - it happens. PC's issue is he can't get a result against Celtic but honestly, with this group of players I just don't see it. But the rush to replace him is a nonsense based on where we are as a club.
