New podder Adriana is joined by Gary go back to basics in R is for Rangers. In this first episode, they talk about Rangers A’s - it seems like as a good a place to start as any - and there were loads to choose from!

For younger Rangers fans, it’s a great way to learn about our illustrious history - and even if you’re older, you’ll maybe hear something new too!

Thank you to everyone who suggested topics for this first episode. Episode 2 will be covering, unsurprisingly, the B’s. Drop your suggestions in the comments.

Thanks for listening!

Advocaat, the summer of 98 rebuild and effects of his spending further down the line Also related would be Administration and the effects we continue to feel to this day

David Herd

B is for... Barcelona Bears our greatest night. Also for Baxter & Brand from our legendary 60s team. Jimmy Bowie, the only man to captain Rangers on the field and be club chairman afterwards. And I'll throw in John Barker, scorer of the first ever competitive Rangers hat trick against Celtic (also scored in our first ever Scottish Cup Final win).

Martin Howden

Broxi bear. I genuinely have no idea the origins of our mascot.

Moody Marco

Adriana is a natural presenter, she’s very very good, you would never guess this was her first time.

Moody Marco

B is for Bluenose Burger and all the other daft names for the half time catering products we’ve had over the years; I can recall Premier Pies and Champions Hot Dogs

Moody Marco

B is for Beamback; I was also at Ibrox for that game; a rumour went round St Johnstone had scored when actually it was Celtic that had scored, the feeling of dejection was horrible, as was the journey home having just lost 10 in a row

Moody Marco

I don’t think Lambert did get sent off

Jayson Moore

Great pod guys - a new pod I’ll definitely be following. B if for Blue Heaven!😜

John Smith

Awesome show ! B is for Battle of Britain

David Kiltie

Adriana, Gary, well done on a great pod. With reference to Albertz’ ridiculous red card from Hugh Dallas at Tannadice in May 1998 - at that moment the filth had scored a second goal so the league was settled. The hit for us came the following week when we faced Hearts in the Cup Final. That season competition-specific suspensions had been introduced Scotland years behind as always!). The one exception was a red card for violent conduct meant missing the next game, regardless of the competition. A tribunal had to decide whether Albertz’ offence was “violent conduct”. The judgement meant that our best player that season missed the cup final. I wonder how Paul Larkin would reconcile that decision with his conspiracy theories?

David Kiltie

Hi Craig, the extravagance of the Advocaat years hit home in 2003 when we had the fire sale after winning the Treble. Between 2003 and 2011 debt fell from over £80m to below £20m. A few years down the line a downsized Rangers was back to being successful, due to a more efficient use of resources and a manager who could squeeze every last ounce out of a limited set of players. It was the EBT fiasco which lead to Murray selling out to Craig Whyte, in order to save the rest of his debt-laden empire. If we think our club is badly run now, at least we aren’t £80m in debt or facing an existential threat from HMRC!

Craig Fryatt

Oh I know, I’ve lived through it Essential parts of our history and what we are still feeling the effects of

Brilliant pod folks. Really enjoyed it, great idea and very well done. I’ve noticed a couple of recommendations for B, John Smith with Battle of Britain and David Herd with Barcelona Bears and Baxter are a hope, not a must for me. I’ll leave you to make the editorial decisions. Very much looking forward to B. There’s legs in this show, on the second go around of the alphabet can I suggest for ‘A’ Archibald Leitch responsible for our home (granted this might be covered in ‘I’) and Amoruso our wonderfully talented and temperamental captain.

Rona Bluebell

Fantastic to have a new voice, well done Adriana 🥰

David Welsh

The first H&H presenter to record their own bumper music? I used Shazam and initially thought it was something obscure by The Fall 🤣 Anyway, great show, enjoyed it!

Simon

That was really good and refreshing to have a relative newbie to Rangers have their take. Look forward to hearing more. Club Deck Hospitality? I sit two rows behind it up in the CD and always felt honoured that big Tam was sat in front of me every match for years. Always got a wee awright nod off him each week. GBNF

Eddie Cotter

Absolutely superb for new bears and seasoned supporters alike. Can't wait to the next one, I'm hooked 💙

Andrew Meldrum

B is for billy boys - would be an interesting conversation!

Duncan Kee

Excellent listen, in particular for a first time podder. Well done and I’m already looking forward to the next one!! 🔴⚪️🔵

Adriana Spina

Wonderful suggestions, David, there are some belters in there - and thanks for your input to the first show too!

Adriana Spina

Aw, thank you so much! Very kind of you! Delighted that you enjoyed the show - hoping we can only get better!

Adriana Spina

Hahaha! That’s hilarious! My only experience of this might not even be the same thing - anyone remember the Nacho Dog? Damn tasty it was too! Bluenose Burger goes in the hat!

Adriana Spina

Thanks so much, Jayson! Welcome aboard! My other half had a memory unlocked when I mentioned this to him last night - sounds like an interesting topic for sure! In the hat it goes 😊

Adriana Spina

Thanks David, delighted that you enjoyed the show! That’s so interesting - it’s fascinating to hear the different aspects of a story, seems there was more to that than we realised. Thanks for sharing!

Adriana Spina

Great suggestion!! We’ve got loads of B’s but not so many K’s yet - so it’s in the list for then! 🤣 Tell me more about the goal…

David Kiltie

My pleasure, Adriana. Always happy to write about Rangers! The game Gary referred to - the hurt is still with me 26 years later 😩

Adriana Spina

Aw Gordon, what wonderful feedback! Thanks so much for your kind words - I’m delighted you enjoyed the show!! I’ve got Archibald Leitch down for the L episode so we’ll get to him in a few weeks for sure! And I agree, we need to get round the alphabet again - how can we not talk about Amoruso!!

Adriana Spina

Hahaha! Busted 🤭 In my defence, it was actually Cammy’s idea - and it avoids any surprises with licensing since I own the track anyway, haha! Nice and easy! I do hope you like what you heard nonetheless, and thanks so much for your kind words on the show. Although, I reckon I do sound a bit different from Mark E Smith!

Adriana Spina

Yes!! I ran Club Europe East for about 12-13 years or so. Tam was one of the first people I met on my first day and he was so lovely to me. I didn’t know anyone, was just working through my break since I didn’t have anyone to sit with and he came and asked if he could sit and eat his lunch and keep me company 🥹 I thought he was just a nice old gentleman! Then my mother in law told me that she used to have his poster on her wall as a girl 🤣 I was very lucky to meet so many legends - I just wish I’d realised it at the time!

Adriana Spina

You are so kind!! Thank you so much, I’ll do my best to make sure you are not disappointed! Delighted to have you aboard!

Adriana Spina

Thank you so much, Duncan!! It was a wee hit scary, but seems that we did a good enough job! I’m looking forward to the next one too - my brain is exploding already with all this new knowledge!

Duncan Kee

B is for: Bill Struth Baxter Barcelona Bomber Brown Jimmy Bell

Duncan Kee

I think you have struck a goldmine here Adriana….you could complete the full A-Z then start over again at A and you will still have more than enough content to do 3 or 4 runs. I live in Perth in Western Australia and my mates over here are talking about your pod. Keep up the good work….nice things happen to nice people 🔴⚪️🔵

John Walker

Great stuff Adriana. Thoroughly enjoyed the podcast. Big jorg is one of my all time favs He could score from anywhere and regularly did so against the mingers. He also loved doing it and hated getting beat by them , a thing this current crop of players just don't seem to get.

Donna MacK

Really enjoyed this, Adriana! Very much looking forward to the next one!

Jamie Gilchrist

Really enjoyed that!! Great work! B, quite simply, is for Brian Laudrup!! The Great Dane!

David Welsh

You do indeed sound a bit different to MES 🤣. But I only look up what the bumper music is if I like it!

Adriana Spina

Oh wow!! Ha, that’s so lovely! I have family in Fremantle, not too far from you guys? 🇦🇺 please tell your mates I said hello! Yeah, I agree - there are so many great suggestions, it could run and run, as long as the H&H overlords let me of course! So delighted that you’re enjoying it - pressure’s on for B! 😊

Bob MacCallum

Re that Albertz red card, in non-10-in-a-row season, not only did he miss the final league game but he also missed the following Cup final when Hearts beat us 2-1 at Parkhead. It was a harsh red that nowadays would only get a yellow. Can't remember the ref but I remember at the time feeling that it was yet another anti-Gers decision. But, then again, I've always been paranoid!

Moody Marco

I have a hilarious story about my mate and the names of the food at Ibrox in the 90s, but it’s too long to type!

Moody Marco

Well, I guess in theory you could also get worse, if you just started making a James Hunt of it for some reason 🤷🏻‍♂️ 😅😅

Mr ronald a holmes

Fantastic show Adriana!looking forward to the rest! Keep up the good work!

Gordon Rennie

Good show, enjoyed it. Human was the captain of PSV, he wasn't the captain of the Dutch national side.

Adriana Spina

Thank you for your kind words! And appreciate the correction - I’ll be looking to the guidance of you guys to keep me right!

Moody Marco

I’ll come on the pod as a guest for one of the letters if you like and tell it then
