Threads might be the scariest movie I’ve ever seen

John Smith

7 ?! That is terrifying 😂 It’s the realism of it that makes it so disturbing

Pedro

Isn't "Elementary school" the equivalent of primary school in Canada and the US?

Gordon Smith

Think I was 12 when it was shown in school. Still haunts me to this day. Teacher would get the jail these days for doing that to kids.

Kirk Guthrie

Talking shit on the doors and val Kilmer may quite honestly be the best intro I've heard, of any show on this podcast, since I joined years ago. Could also be that I'm slamming cans and cooking Thanksgiving dinner cos I worked night shift the last 5 nights... brilliant content either way

WILLIAM JACK

Fair play for revisiting Joker FAD. It may not be for everyone and is receiving a lot of 1/10s from fans who didn't get the movie they wanted, which happens. But hats off, I never heard Mark Kermode or Roger Ebert rewatch a film based on punter feedback - that's some quality audience engagement.

Heart and Hand

It's definitely not an action or comic book film and I could still have done with less singing but with the exception of the Jungle Book I always say that. But it's very striking cinematically. I think it'll end up up a cult movie. Which is probably not what the studio wanted but I suspect not far from what the director did!

In the late 70’s (Scotland), there was a state based, ad/informative what to do regarding ‘hypothermia’ on tv. As a kid it felt like it lasted 15 minutes. If i remember correctly (?), the guy in the ad had expensive sleeping bag clothing on (i never owned this essential) as he staggered through the snow. It was worrying. Having purchased slip on shoes which were amazing to slide on ice with, the shoes helped to attenuate my fear of the imminent ice age.

Iain Campbell

As a child of the 80s this brought back so many memories. At least they didn't sugar coat life like they do now at primary school!!! It's no wonder my wife won't let me join the PTA!!

Lewis Wardrope

I just watched the Oasis SNL sketch. Got to be the least funny thing I’ve ever seen. They can’t even do a stereotypical US trying to sound British cockney accent

Martin Boyd

Saw Threads when it first was shown and will never watch it again , nope no way. Even if I was around 22 years old at the time it still scared the bejesus out of me.

Paul Kerr

Threads and that video about kids dying on a farm... primary school could take a dark turn when you saw the big telly get wheeled out. The 'after school specials' they'd put on in the holidays could be cautionary tales too.

Heart and Hand

And remember the advert about the wee boy playing near electric lines who ends up getting his face burned off?

WILLIAM JACK

Well he did day he made Joker because he believed 'woke culture had killed comedy.' He does seem on a mission to piss off a large part of his audience. Difficult not to respect that bloody mindedness in the current money-driven climate.

Dougie

Talking music, I turned down a family members kind offer of two tickets for Alice Cooper supported by Primal Scream at Leeds tomorrow night! Did I make the correct decision or not? 😊

Heart and Hand

Well, I do absolutely love 'Poison' by Alice Cooper but wouldn't sit through two hours to get to it. My wife though absolutely adores him. PS I wouldn't watch if they were playing in my garden. In fact, I'd phone the polis to get them lifted for being in my garden.

Trev @JimmyBell_Loyal

Well wee nippy hasn’t come out and responded to Alex’s death which I found hilarious. She really hates him now

Heart and Hand

She tweeted something Saturday night, I only know because it was actually other Nationalists who took her to task over it.

Iain Campbell

Genuinely stopped a generation from thinking War Games actually had a happy ending. Wasn't just some super computer playing TicTacToe, but nuclear winter reality! And if it stopped Rapping Ronnie Regan pushing the red button, then it needs to be shown more often

Rona Bluebell

Threads was fine for me. However, I saw a ropey VHS copy of The Exorcist early 80s with friends and that genuinely gave me nightmares. I watched the Mark Kermode documentary on the making of it, I worked in the film industry for years so understand the techniques etc, but I still can’t watch the actual film to this day. Frightening.

Graham Roy

Add in watching poltergeist, Evil Dead, Pet Semetary, salems Lot and Halloween I wonder I actually slept?!

Andy Elliot

As a long term listener / subscriber to H&H, I’m quite embarrassed to admit that for some reason I’ve only just discovered this particular show. Love it. A very entertaining meander through the world of film, TV and much more. Not sure my dog or other dogwalkers could work out why I was giggling to myself constantly in the woods. It’s a dangerous look 👀
