Interim Chairman John Gilligan has issued this update to supporters:

It is great to be back in our Ibrox home, where domestically we have taken maximum points and no goals conceded. Of course, there are some finishing works to be undertaken in the Copland. We continue to thank supporters there, who have been disrupted more than most, for their ongoing patience.

At its core, the Copland project was designed to create a new, first-class facility for our disabled supporters. It has been heartening to hear their extremely positive feedback thus far on the new disabled sections, with an enormous difference to the matchday experience for the supporters now housed there.

After a fantastic result in Malmo, we were all disappointed with the Europa League result against Lyon, but I was proud to see the supporters staying with Philippe and the team until the final whistle.

The biggest disappointment of that evening, however, was the actions of a small minority of supporters, whose use of pyrotechnics at the match has seen the club fined €13,750 by UEFA. This is in addition to a €19,000 fine for a similar incident in the match with Malmo.

My message is the use of pyrotechnics must stop and stop now at all of our matches home and away! Not only could the repercussions become ever-larger for the club, many supporters have difficulty coping with the effects of pyrotechnics, whether that be the smoke or loud bangs they produce. It is desperately unfair for any Rangers supporter to come to a match and be affected in such a manner.

Away from matches, and I can confirm Director of Football Operations Creag Robertson will leave in the coming weeks to pursue new opportunities. We must thank Creag for his contribution in several roles since he joined the club in 2016 and we wish him well in his future endeavours.

With Creag moving on, I have seen some reports of the club being without leadership. I can assure you that is not the case with George Letham and myself, who have deep knowledge of business and our great club, working tirelessly alongside our executive management team to continue to drive the club forward.

Nils Koppen, our Director of Football Recruitment, highlighted in an interview last week that planning for the January transfer window is well underway.

On the commercial front, Karim Virani and his team have delivered an outstanding new front of shirt sponsorship deal with the Kindred group, while we have been really pleased with the work done in such a short space of time, by Elior on the catering front.

The financial uplift in both deals, together with the strong financial oversight and controls actioned by CFO, James Taylor will positively benefit the club going forward.

Of course, we are determined to fill the Chairman and CEO roles as quickly as possible, and our recruitment consultants have already produced short lists of very strong and experienced candidates for both roles.

While that is ongoing, our absolute priority is to support Philippe in any way we can to ensure the men’s first-team can continue to build upon the progress we have seen from them in recent weeks.

We must thank Philippe for standing tall during these difficult months and for dealing with non-football matters on the club's behalf.

Finally, my thanks to you all, our fantastic supporters - you are truly the most loyal support in world football. You deserve the best and we will do everything in our power to help deliver success in the months and years ahead.

Chairman's Update

HAVING been in the role of interim chairman for around a month now, I wanted to give supporters an update on matters across the club.

Comments

Gordon Woods

Regurgitated nonsense - I swear we’ve had a shortlist for ceo for 4 months at least.

Craig Fryatt

Excellent to see this level of communication

Ally Auld

It seems more about the fine from UEFA… and keeping us updated with the rest. Damned if you don’t say anything, damned if you do..

Vanb bryceter

A very concise and positive update. Clarifying leadership roles and ongoing future planning. I'm glad we are taking our time to make these new appointments. Its clear the previous incumbents weren't best in class so hopefully we get an upgrade and start making steady steps forward

Steven L

Nothing new apart from moaning about fireworks.

Bruce Burns

Appreciate the communication. And agree that pyro should GTF

Graeme Burns

Good to see an update - I think now is the time for decisive action against the Onion Bears for that dreadful pyrotechnic show (that some have linked to commemorating a drug dealer) that has cost us money and reputation. I’d like to see them locked out of ibrox for the rest of the Europa League campaign.

Andrew Mundt

"We never hear anything from the club, it's shocking" *The chairman gives two updates on all current club issues in a matter of months* "Lot of shite, what's the point in this pish" 🤡🤡

John leitch

Condemned for silence criticised for statements

Stevie Auld

Same old same old but I totally agree about the pyro and fireworks. Then again I'm just an old fart and would rather be supporting the team by singing cultural songs.

Heart and Hand

Tough audience - we complained about never hearing from the Chairman but now we’re complaining about hearing from the Chairman 😀

Martin Boyd

Some folk just like to moan , it will never change. Personally I see nothing wrong with what he said. I am a bit hypocritical about the pyro I like seeing it in away grounds but when I saw that at Ibrox I was so disappointed.

Gareth Williams

Good old John, he is 100% correct on the pyro. Good on him too for issuing an update. Fans can’t moan there’s no comms then moan when they don’t like the content of the regular comms from the new chairman. I know for a fact that John will try his very best to make sure the support are kept up to date.

James Milliken

The UB should pay an additional levy on their STs If I went against club policy and cost us £30k because of my behaviour I'd have my ST revoked. My message to them would be "wear your goggle jaikets and black balaclavas all you want but accrued fines as a direct cause of your actions will be divided across your members season tickets the following season" Though to police at away games but the expectations should be set at home games

Robert White

Good statement. I love the UB but they misjudged the Copland Da's and Grandpa's reaction and so no more pyro at Ibrox please.

Stephen

He probably doesn’t want to start a fight with the Ultra’s in the way Celtic have a problem with theirs. Everyone knows who he is talking about without provoking a confrontation. Sure they will be talking to them behind the scenes. We can’t keep wasting money on these fines. The pyrotechnics have to stop. It looked good for a while but it is just boring now. Those fines are the equivalent of the money spend by fans to buy 70 season tickets just flushed down the toilet.

Rod

This is why I don't agree with people who bang on about hearing from the club. We already know what's going on, getting sat down and spoon fed the same info from the chairman does nothing for me. A short statement about the pyro is all that's required.

Martin Sutherland

Any issues folk have cannot be aimed at John. He can only control what’s happened since he joined. Good to see some genuine leadership

stephen

I like this, good statement. I personally like pyro but it has to stop. We have to find another way.

Fraser Wells

I can swear after the pyro display at Dundee last season club, fans, fan media and even the players posted pictures of said display absolutely loving it. In my opinion Pyro betters the atmosphere at games and shouldn’t even be mentioned when it comes to issues at this club.

William Shand

There is no place for pyrotechnics or fireworks inside a football stadium or any other enclosed space where people are present.

John Smith

Really appreciate him calling out the pyro knobs

John Smith

100% William. They’re starting to lose their argument and case badly now with how they conduct themselves

Dougie

I’m nearly fifty so pyro isn’t a thing ill ever understand, fines and potentially stadium closures isn’t worth the few seconds it lasts 🤷🏼‍♂️😬🤷🏼‍♂️

Billy Forrester

The fireworks flying over the players during Lyon game was a disgrace. Not big nor clever and 95% of fans do not want it in our stadium

James McSween

Pretty sure it isn’t just the UB in there. Also Ranges Riot Crew and Copland Collective so he can’t say for sure who it was.

James McSween

Surly this day and age they can make Pyro safe to use. It creates a good atmosphere They’re able to use it an indoor concerts and events. You’d hope the clubs would work with the Ultras to try and create a good atmosphere as if it wasn’t for the ultras the stadium would be very flat.

George Higgins

I’ve no issues with pyro as such but I can understand concerns re viewing being instructed and asthma sufferers etc. For me the breaking point is the fines and potential stand closures. Why should fans who don’t use pyro lose their seats at a European game because of a minority that do ? It has to stop. Do a todo that doesn’t cost us .

Stewart Robertson

Bampots were letting off Whistling Moon rockets in our end, and they were going up, hitting the roof, and coming back down. Great result that day though.

William Shand

Yes Stewart I was at the game, but the rockets didn’t reach the main stand 😂. Absolutely great result though

Graeme Lawson

I don't understand why the club don't identify the ones with pyro and ban them. Can't be hard to do. I am all for atmosphere but why should other fans have to suffer and the club be fined all the time. The UB create a great atmosphere but I can't stand their so what the want attitude.

Scott Mackay

The club are being fined and there is a threat of stand closures but it "shouldnt be mentioned." That's some take FFS.
