Strapped in for Day 2 of therapy - thank you, I guess

Vanb bryceter

I haven't listened to anything im so passed off. You guys do a brilliant job bringing balance, but I can't help feeling this is a car crash and we're still to be hit by an oncoming juggernaut

chris smith

Building without foundations is exactly it. The board went for a quick fix with the adopting of the ‘trading model’ to replace the ‘buy Championship jobbers’ model. They recognised the club was underfunded and they saw buying projects to sell on for profit as a way to do it without them having to add significant funding. They forgot that having a winning team on the park is essential to any trading model as nobody buys 23yos who coming from a losing team who have won next to nothing …

jamey Carruthers

Would love to know what’s changed for Andy he was arguing two weeks ago there was improvement staring us in the face

Russell Jones

I am disappointed that the club haven’t looked to bring in the likes of Souness in one of senior roles. He said on TalkSport he would be available and he is someone who commands respect. For me it is a MoneyBall style approach that we should be looking at. You think of the muppets who have been involved in recent years: Ross Wilson for me was very poor. Should we not combine a Souness, with a proper business person (e.g. David Holmes, in yesteryear?)

John Smith

1. Would it be possible to get Jimmy Thelin ? 2. How would you feel about that as an appointment ?

Scott Corral

Thank god for the dukes story at the end, at least it brought a wee laugh to what’s been a miserable couple of days.

Gordon Smith

I was really rallied by Andy McGowan saying we need to make sure we don't tear it all down as fans and lose faith as this has to be a long term project..but aye. They're really not worth the steam off our piss are they? Why are we getting so upset when the board have signalled that were not putting up a fight this season? Like all you have left is apathy. What a shambles

Jim Milne

They approached Souness before Clement was appointed for a senior role and Souness declined. Then was hired as a "special advisor" during the hiring process. He suggested Frank Lampard, and board hired Clement.

Samantha Paterson

He loses to Aberdeen I can see him being sacked and Alex Rae appointed interim because we have no CEO, No Permanent Chair and no Director football. Or they are going to stick to guns because no money to sack him 🙄 grim

Scott Braidwood

While the club is in such a poor state off the park there is zero purpose in replacing the manager. It is already inconceivable that we could win the league, and we will win enough games to comfortably finish second. Without a sufficient corporate structure to guide the club sacking Clement now would simply be throwing good money after bad. What is the purpose behind throwing millions into a new manager to finish 9 points behind celtic rather than 16?

JimGLW

Sensible and sober listen. Clement has been here a year and spent about 20 million. What sort of side has be put together? It's not a fast one. It's not an aggressive one. It's not an attacking of a defensive one. There's no strength. That's on him. Neither well drilled nor enjoyable to watch. And most importantly it isn't a winning team.

Jim Milne

From 2012 we have had the best supporters in the world. Plowed money in every season from Charles Green, Spivs to Dave King & The Parks. Watched some atrocious performances, 2 years in the championship and we all believed it was for the purpose of getting back to "where we belong". Then when we get back to the top, win 55, go to Seville then return to UCL the board goes haywire. From letting contracts on assets run down, signing injury prone players, Sydney OF debacle, then firing Gio who generated $70m in his time without a plan, give all the money to Michael "Trotter" Beale, and then lying to Clement about resources to get him in the door. There is only so much negativity a fan can take, apathy is here because it's been 10 years out of 12 having the absolute piss taken at work, social life, etc. A generation have followed us becoming normalised to this, other fans have been pushed to the brink IMO having become normalised to spending £ after £ only to see us regress back to levels of circa 2016. The boards next move is critical. If it goes wrong IMO Ibrox attendances will plummet and commercial revenues will dry up. I just want them to sort the mess and let me enjoy watching OUR team. Not this, whatever it is.

Alan Stewart

David is spot on. If Clement is removed, it has to be an interim manager until the summer. Any new guy is up against it right away and as proven over the last 3 years, it only goes one way.

Billy Forrester

I don’t think we are comfortably going to finish 2nd, we will have to improve to do that and it’s not a given that will happen, it could get worse before it gets any better

John Smith

I only drink when I’m awake Billy. But the point still stands. What he’s done in a short space of time is miraculous. Would cost a lot I’m sure but it’d be worth it in the long run I think

David Tod

We’re becoming a graveyard for players and managers because there is no structure at the club for them to operate in.We can all slag Man U, but we’re beginning to look very, very similar.

David Scott

What is our win ratio in 12 O’Clock kick offs we are always dire , yesterday more than ever, The manger needs 3 wins from the next 3 games or he is toast.

Jim Milne

He has known since he joined us we needed a striker. He brought in Silva who I'm sure cost a fortune in fees and was lazy. Then signs a young project player. It's fine signing a project player as a squad player not when you only have two strikers, one of which is injured and the other is pish.

Jim Milne

Wrote my first comment before listening. One observation is when Clement got here he was confident, assured and seemed to have strength in his beliefs. I'm not sure he has any of those strengths right now. Davie's comparison with PLG is interesting because his body language was similar also, and as each week passes I feel that more and more Clement doesn't want to be here.

Charles McIntyre

It’s beginning to look as though the Players have now lost confidence in the way PC wants us to play. If that’s the case then the writing is on the wall for him. Alternatively they’re just not good enough to execute his game plan and again if that’s the case and he doesn’t change the system then the writing is on the wall. In the words of The Stranglers “something better change”. Excellent summation tonight from the three contributors.

Stephen

He hasn’t done anything yet. Naismith had a good run of results for Hearts last season and look what happened to him. Fair enough if Aberdeen finish 2nd but not after 8 games.

Calum Robertson

I refuse to believe that after watching Dessers for the last 6 months of the season there was not one striker in the Scandinavian market or likewise that could not have done us a turn and chipped in with some goals, for us to go in to the new season without reinforcements in the striking position and hoping to go with an untried Igamane and Danilo returning from a 6 month lay off is absolute insanity

Tamus

I agree with David Get him out the door Get Warnock in til the season ends In may

Billy Forrester

As Enstein famously said “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”

james whyte

Lose at Aberdeen and its curtains. For me its that simple. If that happens the fans will have had enough and Ibrox will be half empty. Could have said half full but I don't feel positive right now!

Jim Milne

I'd have done what Aberdeen did and taken Kevin Nesbit on loan. A guy with something to prove and Scottish.

Chris Graham 🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

David’s comments about the managers words on what we see and what he wants us to see is fucking 100% spot on Handle it gaffer ffs , own it and tell it like it is The fans can then at least pick a side Av never heard a Rangers manager be so much of a searching bullshitter Excuse after excuse

Chris Graham 🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Before he is put infront a camera on weds some cunt needs to have a word with him and the way he addresses us the fans Wur no daft so stop firing stats and pish at us The eye test doesn’t lie

Calum Downham

Clement is going nowhere, the decision to give him a 4 year extended extension ensures that If i'm wrong that'll be 3 season in a row we've replaced the manager in October or November. The root cause of the problem at Rangers lies far, far deeper than simply the manager

Rona Bluebell

I never thought I would say this but McInnes may be the answer

Rona Bluebell

Davie, you sound done with him and you’re reasonable

SC81

Tell me the last 3 Rangers performances you really enjoyed? I'd say Hearts 5-0 last year. After that I am pretty much going back to Leipzig. Shelling out the guts of £2000 a year on tickets and strips (for my kids) out of a sense of duty.

SC81

Yes it does but he is also a massive issue. The team are shapeless, toothless and lazy.

David Innes

The only way we don’t lose that game is if Aberdeen shit the bed. They are capable of giving us a doing based on what I’ve seen from both sides this season.

Greg Cameron

What gigs were ye at David ?

Calum Robertson

Performances since the Hearts 5-0 game have dropped off a cliff with very little signs of altering

Calum Downham

All common symptoms under Gio eventually and under Beale. The issue is the board continues to pick the wrong manager with the wrong philosophy. Rinse and repeat. Eventually they’re bound to get a managerial appointment right, maybe in 5 years time

William George Bell

This is takeover territory atm. This board although good guys seem to be at the point where they’d like someone to just take the responsibility out of their hands. New investment and drive is needed but it has to be the right people. I’d give Dave King the reins again.

Steven Harvey

A superb pod and very measured responses to what has been an utter shitsh*w since the big ex-Motherwell CF ended Goldson’s Rangers career. I can see him getting away with losing to Aberdeen by default if Aberdeen drop points v DUFC. I also think Motherwell will end the cup run which might be a disguised blessing 🤮

Stewart Robertson

At least Dujon Sterling told it like it was - “We’ve been shit”.

Rick Swan

Great pod chaps. Yes, it’s an absolute shambles. A lot of the blame for this lies with the board. Some of them have watched Rangers every week for years. Surely they must be able to see that a possession based philosophy doesn’t work in the bread and butter world of our game. So why keep picking coaches who are stuck to it? They didn’t even have the humility to look towards what big Ange did at Celtic and try and replicate it by brining in the Australian guy. It might not have worked but at least it would have been an interesting change. I think the only way to get out of this will unfortunately be a radical whole-scale change from top down. A new board who will bring their own ideas and their own coaching team. It’s not really what I want to see and might be a difficult pill to swallow as it would be new investors.

SC81

Thankfully I don't have an English team. I can imagine there are some fans who support Rangers and Man U. That would be enough to make you bin football and take up sewing.

SC81

When everyone talks about the board fuckimg things up. Who are we talking about? Douglas Park Graeme Park George Letham? I'm not sure I could name any more. John Gilligan (just in the door)

Colin Gardner

I can't believe we are back here again! 2 years in a row we are wanting the manager removed. We are a basketcase. Our problem is , and I include myself in this, is we want instant success. Watching the orcs sweep everything in sight is getting to us big time. We either put up with what we all wanted in May, a total rebuild, or go through this same cycle year after year. Cant happen. I can put up with not winning for a few seasons but see a product on the park that is progressing(aka Gerrard) what I can't put up with is heartless, gormless, weak, powder puff non trying performances like Sunday. And get that Donkey Dessers out the team please!!

Duncan Hegan

Plenty of fans talking about wanting Clement sacked. It won’t help. The replacement won’t be any better (barring maybe a brief honeymoon period like last year under PC).

james whyte

I haven't seen any of Aberdeen but the fact they were 2 down at HT on Sat and got a draw says they have something about them. We wouldn't have gotten a point from 2 down thats for sure.

Jim Milne

The irony in the player trading model is the board couldn't even do that correctly given the chance. Bassey, Patterson and Aribo aside no other players in that timeframe were sold at their peak. Kent, Morelos, Kamara, etc all stayed or were kept to long when they should have been sold and the model continue.

Andrew Rennie

Couldn't agree more with David. Temp till the end of the season if he goes. As any new manager will have bad results this season as a stick to beat him with next season. So let someone take the fall ( as bad as that sounds) then get someone in who can just have a fresh start.

Gordon Millar

Couldn't agree more with Andy's comment and said yesterday that the players don't believe in the setup and what their being asked to do, it is obvious to see the lack of pride, passion and application which should be a given even if we lack quality!

Campbell Maclennan

I'm back and forward on the manager. We are so short as a squad. On deadline day we needed 5 signings and we only got 2. When you are short of a starting 11 and have nothing on the bench then it's hard to avoid days like yesterday. Who is more to blame, PC or the board? When we won 55 we had a squad that had a great starting 11 and a great bench every week. I just think it's beyond us at the moment to mount a serious challenge on the title. I'd rather 2m was spent in Jan on new players and not on sacking and hiring a whole new management team. That said, he needs to show us something over the next few months. Our domestic away form is a disgrace.

Martin Davies

One thing that really stood out for me yesterday was the lack of players holding their teammates accountable. Watching us gift Killie a sitter from a set piece where they had 2 free men at the back post, yet Soutter and Balogun have a wee hand slap when I'm expecting some of the players to be tearing strips off whoever hadn't done their jobs. Our players are far too nice to both teammates and opposition.

Jamie

Think it’s time Davey gets his lucky jacket oot his maw n da’s loft.

Vanb bryceter

It looks like we are all in agreement here. I can't see us getting a result in any of the next 3 games. Will that be enough to get Clement to walk 🤔 I have always had the belief that our next game we will be better. I can't believe we had 2 weeks preparation and served that shift up. The friendly defeat against Dundee should have put a rocket under Clement sadly I don't think he has a grip on the real apathy rapidly spreading through the support

Jim Milne

Apart from Goldson shouting at others when he made a mistake that's been the norm since Gerrard left.

Jim Milne

I don't even want to give him another game, nevermind a few more months.

Stephen

Great pod and helps to know other bears are feeling as miserable as me!!

Heart and Hand

See to be honest, I can’t remember such a universal feeling among the support. There’s usually so many different takes, but this is complete agreement almost across the whole support.

David

Neil warnock in until the end of the season (joke) if there isn’t a good performance on Thursday then it could get toxic but the attendance could also have an impact as we are far from sold out

DRKMN

Sacking Clement now is not the answer. Who takes it til end of the season? Alex Rae? Fuck that! That's worse. The guy's being asked to build a race car and the board have given him a few bricks to do it with. Ancelloti wouldn't get a tune out of the current Rangers team. The blame lies elsewhere if you ask me.

Bixby Snyder

Seeing that goal back and blaming Kasa for it is reaching. Souttar is caught ball watching again. He’s looking at it instead of barging Watkins off his stride and is then easily shrugged off.

DRKMN

Butland was too quick to come out also. It's good that he does sometimes, however I think he saves that if he's on his line.

Bixby Snyder

True. Ideal world, Souttar blocks that like you would running it out for a corner, but for Butland to collect. Maybe him racing out also puts Souttar off.

David Campbell

As much as I agree it’s poor performance and dull football most weeks, the suggested changes aren’t exactly radical. We still have the worst top flight squad since Caixinha and it’s also ravaged with injury. Another manager might get a slight tune due to the bounce but this lack of quality will lead to one thing and that’s disappointment. Clement can’t be held accountable for the failings of the previous regimes. He’s picking through the bones and using what he can whilst also being pretty much the only face for the club as everyone else has left.

Allan Osborne

He'd steady the ship but the football would be grim. He might win the odd cup or two but we're never winning the league under him. Plus the fans would be split on him before he even started, with one half just waiting for the first slip to say "I told you so". The decline of Rangers since 2021 has been remarkable and it's down to those at the very top in that time. Now we are even worse off on that score. It's utterly depressing, and the fact people would welcome McInnes is an indication of how far we've fallen.

Hendi

Clement is described as a "mediocre" manager. Do "mediocre" managers have the success he has in Belgium? We are on track to appoint our 4th manager in successive Novembers. There is one common denominator in there - Rangers. Changing the manager is a distraction from the mismanagement of the club post 55. It buys the Incompetents another year of time.

Billy Brotherston

It’s Clements inability to change & adapt that’s making more & more folk talk about sacking him. Watching the football we play week in week out & thinking it’s even remotely working is criminal, I don’t if it’s stubbornness or arrogance but if he doesn’t park it & have a bit of a rethink it’s only going to end one way

JimGLW

How Beale or Gio did and Gerrard leaving has no bearing on Clement's ability or any judgements on him.

Hendi

If I fall out with one person for being a dick then it's likely that they're a dick and I'm justified. If I fall out with everyone around me, then I can't be surrounded by dicks, the problem lies closer to home.

Stewart Robertson

You make a good point David about building with no foundations. Currently Rangers are a “Potemkin village”.

Ross Baird

Agree with lots of stuff covered here. In possession we are absolutely horrendous. The main issues we have for me is the complete lack of runs in behind and selfless runs that make space for others and turn teams. Also, I agree that at some points killie were in a low block and forcing us through the middle of the pitch. At others they went man for man all over the pitch, because they know we don’t have a single player who is a threat to them in a 1v1 situation. Won’t outstrip them for pace, and won’t go at them and beat them with ball. Out of possession is a riot. Been this way since last season. Countless diddy teams comfortably pop passes around us because of the lack of bodies we use in our press and the half arsed nature of it.

Alastair McGeoch

The pod as grim as it was is spot on. As have been the recent tactics pods. The fact the podders and fans can see that the foundations are not there and are posing questions/ideas to be tried is a damning indictment of Clement. I personally feel that Rangers as an institution has proven too big for the board and the leadership positions which is why they are all currently vacant and it is unfortunately too big for the squad and Clement. He’s been gaslighting the fans from the beginning - kept going on about beales pre season and goes on to turn in an even worse coached squad after his. Buys silva instead of a striker last Jan and tells us we didn’t need one (we did) and now talks about building for the future and stats. Rangers isn’t about stats, it’s about winning games. He’s yet another manager that doesn’t get it. On the basis that he hasn’t fixed a single thing that cost him the league title and a Scottish cup last season he will not change now. If we get a doing from Aberdeen next week he should be gone. I agree with David, interim manager for rest of the season, then you can offer a new ceo the opportunity to put his own people in at all the key positions.

Alan Baxter

When the fans feel like this i often wonder do the managers and players know what the fans are feeling, or are they so protected from the real world?

Ryan Stewart

Good pod guys, I think the majority are in the same boat which is unusual like you said One thing I would mention, Kev mentioned about Igamane and him being young, I’ve listened to other pods, 4Lads, Rangers Review etc and I keep hearing about Igamane being young or Dessers having to play because there is nobody else available. Hamza Igamane will be 22 years old in just over a weeks time, he cost us £2m? If not for injury he would have been part of a very talented Morocco Olympics squad who got a bronze medal. Koppen mentioned it in his interviews, 21 isn’t young, it’s time to see what this boys got because we know the results that Dessers delivers

Spoon

Don’t disagree with the majority of comment gents. Dessers isn’t performing well enough to be the 9 overall however I maintain we could get slightly more out of him by playing to his strengths. Cammy was spot on for me around the issues with Dessers and Igamane or Danilo. I personally blame Clement for exposing and amplifying Dessers issues and weaknesses in a system that asks him to do things he isn’t good at alone up front. It’s inevitable that asking the guy who can’t hold up to hold up while isolated won’t work. We can see it some blame Dessers I blame the manager for seeing it week in week out but ignoring it. The issue is we aren’t positive enough in getting players forward, going after teams and we somehow are also not good enough to keep them out. It’s not a trade of with attack and defence he is setting us up to fail. We are enamoured by these modern coaches, I was on the Clement train too but I am more and more convinced that these coaches who come in just don’t get Scottish football. We can slate the level and league but we need to play in it and we need to win. We just aren’t setting up properly, buying the right profile of player or coming in with the right attitude. I know it won’t go down well but a McInnes style coach gets much more from this team, Clement just doesn’t get it at all. Apathy is the word sadly gents, I am bored arguing around Dessers, Souttar or Dowell etc these guys are part of the problem and cogs in the broken wheel but the issues lies at board and management level and we can rearrange the players on our own titanic but it won’t stop us going down…..again.

Vanb bryceter

Yes I agree its quite scary how far we have fallen in such a short period. From the run to the update final to this is bewildering. Clements comments are as you say destroying his own credibility with the support and I think we are seeing it with his own players now. I've never seen a Rangers team even the shte ones as physically weak. You guys called it there's no pace no power no tactics and well let's not talk about the injuries that the big man knew the cause of and was going to fix. Just scunnered waiting on the inevitable you wouldn't put you're dog through this its diabolical

Brett

Does the manager get monthly performance reviews? Surely Koppen as a football man can ask him what he thinks is happening versus what is happening. In my work I give them to my team, and I’m not always an expert in their work stream but can gauge progress against targets. Surely someone will sit down down Clement and point to the obvious errors we (non football people) can all see

Vanb bryceter

See the point about our pressing im not singling out our players and I hate to bring them into our situation however.... Look at their midfield and forward line and tell me they are so much physically bigger than ours, they aren't apart from the haddy ikeja.. the sheep got tore into them on Saturday with shining and mcgrath hardly physical specimens. This is about that thing that no matter who you are or what you do if you DESIRE it or want it enough you're going to work your bollocks or female equivalent off to get it. Even that maniac Trump knows it you know....Fight fight fight

Johnnie Mitchell

Exactly my thoughts on the situation too Billy. My thoughts of a Manager and his style of play is it can change from game to game depending on players available, opposition, conditions etc. Sticking with one game plan every week, when it’s clearly not working and been sussed out, is absolutely mind boggling to me.

Kev Armstrong

Perhaps young was the wrong term. He might go on to be a great player but not the one we need right now. Can we really ask a player who hasn’t score for us yet to be our main striker? I wanted a striker in Jan and the summer - even on loan.

Daniel Ward

We are the easiest team in world football for the opposition to do a scouting report on. Keeping clement and his “style” on will ensure that Sundays result will become a regular occurrence, and any fan who isn’t full of apathy towards this season will soon be.

Ryan Stewart

He hasn’t scored for us yet that’s fair. I’m not sure on his minutes played but I’d be surprised if it was over 200 minutes, the vast majority of those being 15-20 minute cameos. Don’t see why we can’t see him as our main ST, at least until January, we know what the alternative delivers. Wouldn’t even be against seeing them both together but that’s not going to happen with Clement The whole narrative around Igamane has baffled me from day 1. Before we signed him he was on a list of top 10 up and coming strikers, we’re treating him like he’s some competition winner who’s had to learn what a football is

Kev Armstrong

Something isn’t right imho. He was either injured when we signed him or miles off it fitness wise.

Spoon

Disagree with very little of what was said, it’s pretty self evident. We shouldn’t have chopped Gio we should have actually backed him with players and we could have been miles further along. If he perseveres with one up front I am done blaming Dessers it’s on the manager. Dessers in the box will score 26-50% of the chances we create, I accept that will frustrate some but our issue is the number and quality of chances more than our finishing ratio. If he was in a two a lot of the critique and pressure is shared not amplified. We can occupy a defence with numbers far better than asking one guy to do it. Morelos wasn’t half as effective as is made out as Gattuso might say he was sometimes a little bit good sometimes a little bit shit. Totally agree with Andy, Shankland was a must and I said at the time Clements disinterest in him was a red flag for me. A 442 or even narrow 433 solves so many of our issues. Igmane to me looks like a carthorse so far. I’m not (never really am) sold on uncovering a wonderkid, it’s a FM type trope that I think we romanticise, the idea we put of all the teams in Europe have captured a top talent is naive given we have a house of cards scouting and transfer set up. David’s comment at the start was closest to how I feel. We need to stop trying to be Aldi Man City going for projects and ethos way out of our wheelhouse. I would get a Scottish style manager, not necessarily Scottish, who can build a solid, physical team to win in domestic completion and we can hopefully tweak that to do ok in Europe. Playing this ridiculous style we seem obsessed with will destroy the club, we can’t just accept rebuild after rebuild or restructure after restructure indefinitely as each time we drop levels it’s harder to get back to the baseline never mind kick on. A depressing listen but absolute reality, thanks gents. Overall gents I think the comments were fair and constructive by all, we all know what we are seeing.

Ryan Lynch

First sentence is true, and they don't even need to attend any games. Opposition just need to tell their scouts, "Choose any Rangers game over the last year years to watch how they set up and play?" "Any particular season or opponent?" "Nah. Just choose any game. Trust me."

Ryan Stewart

Aww yeah he was definitely injured, it’s why he never went to the Olympics. Pretty sure Clement admitted as much recently as well. Why we didn’t just say that originally I don’t know.

Marshall 955

I think you pretty well summed things up. I’m going to vote with my feet. The inevitability of what is ahead is depressing.

Craig

I don't think Clement is a bad manager but his philosophy is a bad fit for Scottish football given the technical ability and quality of player that will be at his disposal. Scottish football should be simple and as much as it pains me Postecoglu got it after a very short learning curve ( and good recruitment).

Billy Forrester

I’d take Mcinnes tomorrow tbh. He knows how to set up a team and compete in Scottish football, if he can do that with killie surely with a better standard of player we have he can get more from our team. Even against them he would set us up to not be so easy to play through and they wouldn’t stroll games against us.

Latimer

Alex Rae has been a pointless appointment. Kevin Thompson wouldn't be keeping stum to keep his job.

Spoon

Before we got Gio I would have taken him but I get why others don’t rate him. We seem to have tried all the other exotic experimental types maybe it’s time to just accept we need a good solid Scottish set up manager. I certainly wouldn’t be averse to it, IF he would even come to us. The fact he didn’t last time should have been more an indictment of us than him as it was made out. Billy I tend to agree that if you have the nous and tactical sense to set up in Scotland with limited players surely you can upscale that with better budget, players and facilities. I can’t buy into another foreign guy with all the chat but none of the basic grasp of Scottish football.

G

He’s lost the players. From what I’ve been told none of them like clemont. And that’s directly from a player

Daniel Ward

And we wonder why we are so easy to play against, with our thrilling sidewards, backwards slowly then a direct long ball to weak as piss wingers or striker who cant hold a single thing up. The manager doesn’t have the ability or bravery to change it, he doesn’t have the players to play this 4231 and I think it is very clear the players have no idea what they are expected to do. Nothing we do looks like we have practiced it.

David A

Absolutely bonkers on here just now,it really is a case of be careful what you wish for,Wilson,Robertson,Gio,Beale all hounded out the club and now the pitchforks are back out for Clement.Yea let`s make matters worse

Heart and Hand

It’s not getting rid of those that made it worse, it’s not replacing them correctly. We don’t have a replacement for the first two currently.

Heart and Hand

There are zero doubts that the club is mismanaged. Nobody is pretending otherwise. As for success in Belgium, it doesn’t mean he is guaranteed to be a success elsewhere. Gerrard is a good example. Circumstances, style of football, chemistry all matter. I think Clement is an average manager. Not a bad one, not a great one.

Niall MacKay

It makes me sick when we take centre and within a few seconds we have ourselves on a situation where we are trying to break their press. What the fuck is that all about? They should be going out there and trying to make their goalie's first touch be him picking it out the net and instead they're trying to work their way out of a tricky defensive situation. I can't remember the last time we had a team that attacked from the first whistle but it shouldn't even be a decision when you wear our shirt or club tie. I'm actually getting angrier at the state of us the further away from this game. It's not acceptable to be a fan of Rangers and resigned to misery.

Martin Sutherland

Scariest thing is, he’ll start the same 11 on Thursday. The Barron, Lawrence and Dessers subs would have been pre-planned. Thinking ahead to Thursday

David A

Rangers fans held up pictures of both Wilson and Robertson with lines through their faces, they were hounded out.

I agree with pretty much everything Andy said on this pod. I'm also a type that is always prepared to give the benefit of the doubt to the manager in the hope it'll get better, rather than knee-jerk. I was very supportive of Clement but Sunday changed that to be honest. The performance, the tactics, the substitutions and the post match comments moved me from supportive to "on the fence". The more I think about it, the more I look at the collapse in performance levels since we hammered Hearts 5-0 and that shocking stat of 1 away goal this season, I genuinely don't see any signs of progress, so I am very close to falling off that fence and joining the growing clamour for change (while accepting it is unlikely given the contract situation). The discussion on tactics was spot on, Clement is stubbornly insisting on a system that (1) we don't have the players to execute and (2) is not a good fit for our domestic league. There is only one way that will eventually end for the manager unless he changes it. I quite like the 3-5-2 suggestion, he has to try something different.

It seems to me that Celtic buy to win the SPFL then Europe comes after that. We seem to buy for Europe then SPFL after that. Our current Manager and his team would do well in Belgium league. They are just not suited for Scottish football. Sack Clement if possible and get Mcinnes in with Ferguson and Thompson as his lieutenants. If not? We will not stop rot. We will just fall away to nothing.

Certainly not bonkers mate, u generally get very measured and sensible fans who are not silly on here unlike the club fb or insta page, we all cannot be bonkers or wrong can we. It is u who is in the minority and I’d say about 85-90% are all of the opinion that Clements time is nearly up

Billy Forrester

You know shit is getting bad when the Sage is as downhearted as us and looking for managerial change

It’s very, very hard to disagree with anything said on here. The suggestions about going 3-5-2 is, for me, something worth trying, I doubt very much whether that will happen, as PC seems, IMO, incapable of changing a game tactically. Surely he can see that how he wants us to play, just isn’t possible with these players. Andy mentioned the fact that if he suddenly changes philosophy with the players, he loses credibility, and that’s fair comment, but, for me, that is what he has to do, if he’s to stand any chance of turning this round. The next 3 games (as was yesterdays) are must win, or certainly the next 2 league games, sadly, I can only see us winning one of them, and it won’t be Pittodrie.

Complete lack of pace in the team , no midfield creativity , nobody who can control the pace of a game from the midfield , a midfielder with the arrogance and skill that Barry Ferguson had in his prime , not to mention goals and a leader on the field . The fact of the matter is that we need to win the SPL to try and get into the Champions League for the money to be used wisely in building a dominant team that can win League after League . As for the here and now , we are miles away from being a League winning side .

Good pod helps to hear a rational diagnostic of all the issues. With proper recruitment and management these issues can be overcame so having talked it through I oddly feel satisfied as the solution isn’t insurmountable, unfortunately it’s not Clement. For what it’s work my advice to Clement is he should come out and admit shortcomings and give some new systems and youth players a run will get some goodwill and buy him some time…

Billy Forrester

Agreed, foreign managers don’t get Scottish football and our huge club and it’s mad demands. Scottish or at very least a British manager, no more foreign duds.

Excellent listen as always gents. Sad to see that recent events have turned the ever optimistic Safe of Saltcoats into Judge Dread…

Well this was depressing 🤣

Jesus wept if it wasn’t bad enough the suggestion to sign Shankland is woeful but then to say play as a ten! Hearts fans will tell you he was terrible there and is terrible in general, they would bite are hands off for a half decent offer. He’s not and never will be the answer. Also Igamane is a striker, he’s not a ten either nor is he a LW and that does mean we have two strikers and not one in Dessers. On the press, nobody press in packs now, It’s been proven to pointless and waste of energy. Watch the EPL, UCL etc no one is doing the old style. We couldn’t change it if we wanted too as Dessers is good awful at staying with the pack. Watch how many times he wanders off from the resting unit and leaves the space between him, LM, CAM, RM and allows teams to cut right through. On the three senior players saying it’s not good enough, I have to ask if they can see it why are they not doing something or leading something. Tav gets it in the neck for not leading but the pedestal brigade is cheered for their words not actions no wonder we have issues when we reward failure and have since King and the three tenure began.

Really think our prejudice, and I have had it at times, around local talent either in the playing or coaching side is holding us back. The Euro stuff has been great at times, it’s an ongoing essential part of finance but our focus 100% should be on our local three competitions and setting up to win those. We can laugh at others taking a scudding in Europe but the reality is they are the ones racking up the trophy numbers we once held so dear. Time to drop the snobbery around local produce and shop closer to home, we need to stop over valuing our own imports while undervaluing or sneering at the asking price for people actually performing in Scotland. We need to be far smarter with loans too, the days of railing against the other clubs should be over it’s time to build relationships and use them to our advantage.

Sacking a manager every October is not going to fix the problem we have,we have been moving forward season on season since SG with regards to our longer term running totals and the fact that we are not moving forward fast enough for us as fans is not Gio,Beale or Clements fault unfortunately and sacking a manager every season may well lead to a manager appointment that will take us backwards rather than forward in our longer term running totals

Barry Kerr

All about opinions but don't agree on the back 3 we very rarely play against 2 strikers upfront. You then give the opposition the chance to double up on Tav and Jefte and its just asking for trouble. Not much creativity in the middle of the pitch either to go that way. On Shankland we don't really play with an out and out 10 more 2 8s and if we want pace and power in there then you don't arrive at Shankland for that.

Martyn Dick

Unusual for me to disagree with Andy but focus should be on pace and speed of play rather than physicality….Celtic unfortunately have proven this over the past 3 years. We need pace - not hammer throwers. Players with both pace and physicality aren’t affordable to us.

Steve23

Some brilliant analysis lads, makes all the more ridiculous that PC has not arrived at the same conclusions by now. Great points from Andy on Dio and his analysis on the number 10 role. I couldn’t agree more. As ridiculous as this is, as long we have Dessers on the park, we simply need a 2nd striker who is capable of sitting a bit deeper and doing the things he cant. It’s criminal that we have to do it, but needs must as long as he is our starting striker.
