Can you put a timer on so that we can skip the manager’s wibble, wibble drivel?

james whyte

Been having a think about why we are so shit and for me its three areas and they are as follows 1. The board 2. The managers and his staff 3. The players Other than that all good

Graeme Glennie

In my work laughing at the state we are in on the verge of anger or tears. Please david.....help.

Andrew Hillis

Well done David for sticking with it! I cant face anything to do with Rangers today - just not good for my mental health! Hopefully I will be able to muster the strength to return by Thursday! 🤣🤣🤬🤬

Sam Fry

Clement has to go before we fall further and further behind the constant sounds bites of the excuses with stats , xG and age of the squad starting to get boring we have no style of play and no identity players have no fight or belief and that’s up the manager to install that I’m afraid times up once fans turn on you there’s no way out we deserve better .

David Campbell

Time on Clement is coming to a end. I just hope the board aren't sitting on there hands until the day arrives.

Stewart Robertson

Let's have a sweepstake on the amount of comments. Nearest the pin. I'm guessing 78.

Craig

Feels like we've been trapped in a permanent state of 2003/04 for a few years now.

Ryan Macdonald

Im cringing listening to you reading out the managers comments there. As hard to listen to as I imagine it was to read.

chris smith

Ofc it is all three but, for me, the key issue is the famed ‘trading model’. This is what lies at the heart of our current problems. We have tried to run before we can walk. We have gone from one disfunctional trading model (jobbers from the championship) to another (buying young prospects in the hope of large future sales). The likes of Dio, Cortes, Barron and Jefte are all well and good if they were bled in to a team with an experienced spine and a winning track record. We dont have that. This is the board’s fault, not Clement’s … his culpability comes with trying to make them play a system which they cannot succeed in. The players are at fault by just seeming to be dispirited by the whole shitshow … as soon as they get a physical challenge they fall to pieces. Lots of blame to go all round, but, ultimately it is the board’s fault.

Ryan Jardine

The only thing that will save us/cheer us up is Ramsey and McGowan on the flagship.

Tolmie

Has he gone yet? His time is up.

KennyY

I’m absolutely pig sick of Rangers at the moment. What has happened to our great club. I’ve stuck up for the boss and genuinely think he can bring us success but we are such a poor watch and have been for a while now. We have no intensity no creativity and zero attacking threat. It is truly dire and it breaks your heart to see how far behind Celtic we are at the moment. Despite the contract extension, Clement needs to get this sorted and sharpish. The worry is that he doesn’t have the quality within the squad to do just that. This is going to be a long season.

Alex M

Never thought I would say this as the daily update is part of my routine and has helped me get through some of the rough times with rangers but I don't think I can listen to it today.

dotty 84

I genuinely feel we need an explanation on how the Copland/debacle has crippled our summer window. We're a CB, CM, Winger short even if the squad was fully fit. You can argue for a ST on top of that as well.

Stewart Robertson

I was 100% behind the manager until after the Dundee game last season, when he took us for arses, as if we hadn't just watched the game. Since then he just trots out stats to prove that we're not actually shit, like the recent defeat at Parkhead when he tried to say it was a pretty even game ! - was it fuck.

Darren Abraham

Can’t get my head round his comments yesterday when asked why fans should believe things will come good. A month or so ago he was asked similar, and told us we’ll see the real team in October/November. Now we’re here, and he’s telling us the results of the past few weeks should give reassurance. Going round in circles here. Sums up the club as a whole sadly.

Billy Forrester

He could start by changing shape from the 4231. Absolutely stubbornly welded to that system and it will cost him his job 😡

Stewart Robertson

Then he denied ever saying it. I'll quote him (27/08/24) "There is still a long way to go, and like I said, I EXPECT TO SEE THE BEST RANGERS ON OCTOBER, NOVEMBER"

Gordon

Can’t disagree with much of what you said. To me the most disappointing aspect is the lack of urgency, aggression and fight the team is showing. Nil nil 25 mins to go and Tav strolls over to take corner; the time it takes to take a throw in. The only one who shows any urgency is JB. This is nothing to do with players skill, knowledge of teammates etc - this is down to the coaching and messages the players are getting. Sadly my belief in Clement is decreasing by the match.

Greg

For this system we need wingers and we need peak Alfredo, we don't have it. A good manager would get the absolute best out of the players he has and tweak tactics to suit. I always end up defending dessers because he's been hung out to dry, he can't do what we need in this formation but is still held to a completely unrealistic standard because we don't even have the captain contributing goals anymore.

Alastair Thomson Mills

Same old stuff from Clement. It’s endless repeated drivel. But the reality is he is going nowhere. The board just extended his contract. We simply cannot afford to sack him and pay him off and pay for a new manager. We have found our level. Ibrox will soon be half empty on match days. We will slip further down the league. The thing that really winds me up is that our players have actually peaked. That and the fact Clement is playing Tav and Dessers every game. I cannot see how we get out of this situation we are doomed.

Colin Mathie

It seems the whole club is rotten, including the womens team, they were battering teams at one point, now with 6 dropped points from 3 games they probably wont win their league either.

Mikey anderson

I know does he not realise we have eyes. Like he’s says we won 4 in bounce keeping clean sheets…big deal that’s the bare minimum for a Rangers manager. I was in Clement stays camp probably more in hope than expectations that he would turn it around about after yesterday he’s done for me.

Donald Mackay

I’m seriously wondering that the good performances of the early months were largely down to the coaching Beale had done.

Colin Mathie

When he starts spouting nonsense someone should just tell him to stfu with the excuses.

Donald Mackay

A culture change was required in the dressing room this Summer. That didn’t happen. That is on Clement.

Ross

Totally lost faith in this manager, really wanted it to work as we all do,his comments in the press are becoming embarrassing, there is players who have been in spfl and with us for years who have played on that pitch for years and we shouldn’t be using it as a excuse, one more bad defeat and the whole thing will turn toxic against this manager and his staff

Brett

Think now it’s not just that we expect to not get results at tricky places, I don’t even expect a bit of fight from the team or even a glimpse of a performance any more. I used to look forward to our games, and look forward to tricky games, knowing we might dig out a result or at least try and show a bit of fight and not lie down. I also have friends that aren’t even bothered if they miss games due to work or other commitments. Think that’s the biggest worry now is that people are disconnected and not even concerned about that now.

Neil Wilson

Another reset. We've got to get out of this habit. The squad overhaul is at least 3 windows. Whether it's with Clement, that's up for debate, however there isn't a manager that is going to win the league with this updating squad. This is going to take time and money. The club don't appear to have the latter and the fans don't appear to have the former.

Robert White

It can and will at some point change for the better but only if we go back to our roots. Buy the best Scots for our league and save our budget for a sprinkling of stardust. We have a squad of rootless jobbers who save themselvesfornthe European stage. We are just a job to them.

drgriffen

Having been here all to often in recent years this has the feeling of end of days: manager talking nonsense, players chucking it etc... Despite this nothing is going to change until the CEO and Chairman roles are filled. Is there anyone at the club who has the authority to sack him? Do they really want to pull that trigger when all it would do is highlight the incompetence of the Board? Until we have proper leadership, leading to some stability, we will continue in this mess (which is mostly of our own making). Clement has a lot of questions to answer but the main issue is with the Board.

CJT

Been trying really hard to stay positive. I think the manager has been put out onto the shittiest wicket we’ve sent any in the past out on. The shambles we are now is undoubtedly playing a role here. However, I don’t think he can survive without a victory at Aberdeen and cup final to look forward to. Form would suggest the first is impossible and the latter not a given. Quite frankly not sure I can take another manager search. Also can’t think of anyone qualified, even with a strong affiliation with the club, being willing to move to a club with no cash, an interim chairman, no CEO or DoF. It would be madness because a change in regime and you’re out before you get started. Having said all that I know it’s likely coming early in the new year at the latest. A time for someone with vision and leadership to pick a path through the mess . Good job we have the exec team in place to do it. Oh wait, that’s right.

Joe Baxter

He is in complete denial about what is in front of him and is clueless as what to do next . I refuse to believe there is no one in the b team that is not better than Dowel , he is afraid to change that is why we still have tav , he is also making some of the players worse than when they came in . I would have had him out a month ago , he will not see November .

Stephen

Definitely. Even before this season started I felt we aren’t even part of the conversation in terms of the league title. First time I didn’t even have a glimmer of optimism before a ball was kicked. . Will be like this for years to come. We are miles off it and they will just keep getting stronger.

Brett

Same for me, I had very little buzz going into this season. And now they can stand still for a few years and still be ahead of us, it’s frightening. Worst part is I have friends that’s support them and they don’t even slag us off in groups chats any more. We have become an irrelevance and even a winning run won’t change how we or they feel about us I don’t think.

Mike Sim

Can’t bear to listen to the DU today.

Leslie White

Rangers have got New Tactics, We’re trying to Boar Teams into Submission!

John Breen

He lost me when he played Tav against Celtic last season after he started to absolutely shit the bed against maeda. And never did till this day

Stephen

I would agree with this normally but the major problem is he is continuing to use a system that clearly doesn’t work. Every manager will look to exploit this and he will do nothing to change it. We are in for a terrible season. He can’t hide behind injuries and fitness this time. The thought of looking for another manager fills me with dread too but the truth is even worse. We probably can’t afford to sack him.

Douglas Innes

Steven Gerrard hit the nail on the head in rgds to Scottish football " you have to win your battles first before winning games " ...... I don't see anyone capable of winning their 1 on 1 battles ....... and i question Alex Rae's involvement as he should at the very least know this and understand it

James McConnachie

Here we go again. Ongoing issues - 1) No decent striker since Morelos and even he wasn’t reliable. 2) Lack of a Scottish core including a manager who knows the league - we don’t need show ponies, if we ever had any (Shetland ponies perhaps). 3) A loser mentality - we don’t need tippy tappy football - we want positivity and steamrolling teams. 4) Zero progress - journeymen pros. F**k the player trading model. Other teams buy winners not stats.

Gary Andrew

Hi David Well done on putting this out today I'm sure you are as disgusted as all of us. It was clear from 10 mins in that we had to change the shape Does he have that ability I doubt it tbh. To many players not showing up again Maybe if we didn't have football snobbery when it comes transfers a core of Scottish players is a must in the team. Guttless

Stephen

Yeah, there must have been a point in the early 90’s where Aberdeen and Dundee United fans realised it was over for them. Think I am getting towards that stage myself. With FFP the way it is it almost impossible to turn things around quickly and by then loads of fans will have drifted away.

Billy Forrester

Clements excuses are as boring as his team and his tactics. He is fast losing the fans and unless he changes from his beloved 4231 he will be gone shortly. Never been as uninterested in a rangers team as this, they are boring to watch and as slow as a week in barlinnie. The striker is woeful and the other option is Danilo who doesn’t fill me with any confidence as he can’t stay fit and has hardly set the Heather alight when he has been fit to play. We are rotten and there is no light at the end of this big black tunnel

Robert Atkinson

I’m totally confused. Confused why he keeps emphasising injuries but forces players (Cortes, Matondo, Pröpper) to play on through injury. Confused why he tries a high press without fast CBs and so we are never compact and easy to play through. Confused why he continues to pick a struggling Dessers while a player who we wouldn’t be able to afford in a year’s time, only gets minutes here and there. Confused why he bemoans the lack of aggression from players like Tav, Cerny, Bajrami, Dessers etc. yet has only brought in one aggressive player. Confused why the players seem less familiar with one another than an average international team who get together a couple of times per year.

Latimer

Balogun made more sense than the Belgian Beale

KMS

Calamity Clement has no good grace left in the bank from the fans, the budget we have should be more than capable of beating a bottom half of the league team who are struggling, he isn't comparable to Beale, he is however quickly becoming Pedro 2.0 He is really starting to irritate to absolute F*CK out of me, I can't actually watch his post match interviews because he just talks pish

John Wheeler

Hi David I think Balogon could be someone who fills some kind of role in the club after playing career is over something you were talking about last week he always seems to talk sense.

Graham Roy

I wouldn’t trust this current board to appoint the right manager so until we can get a competent CEO in and let him or her clear the boards and sort that mess then best to stick with PC. That said if he loses again in such a poor manner it’s impossible to defend

Scott Dickson

Really surprised we haven’t turned to a diamond in recent weeks when we’ve seemingly go no wide players. Keep the back 4 as it is, ideally Kas in for Tavernier but accept that’s unlikely. Tight midfield 4 with one true CDM as the base (likely Raskin or Barron). Get another more mobile striker on the pitch to run the channels more and take some of the pressure off Dessers, accept we might need to a little more route 1 but with 2x CFs against 2 CBs there’s always a chance of stuff breaking. Seems like managerial basics such as adjusting your formation (which does matter, go and watch any low level match and you’ll see in-game formation changes), are beyond Clement. That’s alarming, especially when we keep running into the same problems.

CJT

Yeah a manager sticking to a system he doesn’t have the players for will only end one way regardless of the rest of it. Like Gio before him though he takes a lot of shit for those above him. We’ll likely never know the gap between who he wanted/was promised and who he had to settle for. Agree that’s not an excuse for setting up as if you did get the ones you wanted.

K M

We’re not playing football it’s hoof ball, it’s actually worse to watch than the dross we had playing in the lower leagues

Billy McCormack

Clements talks one load of shite, so If you're a new player that's the reason they didn't play well, bullshit!

JimGLW

Good pod David, as always is after such bad results. I fear Clement is a real excuse maker. He spent last season complaining about Beale. Now it it rubbish about new players, having same shots on goal etc etc

William George Bell

Clement is seeing totally different things than the fans and that is the worrying part. He’s been talking this rubbish since the Ross County and Dundee implosion last season. It’s not going to last much longer.

Roy Donlon

I hope Clement is just trying to gaslight us, if he actually believes the shite he is coming out with then we’re in massive trouble. Either way it’s piss poor

Alan Riddell

David, what is worse than that inept shameful performance is Clements interview. We had most possession, great, more possession to waste it. We had more corners. When was the LAST time this mob scored from a corner. We hit the bar, it was a just a poor miss so no positive from it. I thought Proper’s attempt after that was rubbish too. Souttar brushed off the ball for their goal far too easily. We were not better in the second half, no chance. We were garbage all round. As you said, nobody is surprised, and that’s sad. I’m dreading Thursday and performances like yesterday certainly don’t get bums on seat so suspect there will be gaps.

Michael

2 things for me: 1. Its getting like Beale were i’m actually bored watching us now, no individual or style of play is getting me excited. 2. What made clement so successful in Belgium? If it was 1 season it could be put down to luck, but it was multiple. What did he do right there which isnt happening here?

Revan1872

I think if there was any plans to change formation it would have happened after they worked on it over the international break. If it happens now then it's probably a panic move and throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks

Jamie Paterson

We are not getting any better year on year manager on manager! Turning into a nothing club

Stewart Robertson

Michael Beale must be walking around with a semi just now.

James Anderson

Some say that Clement has lost the dressing room Unsurprisingly Tav appears to be a leader in the dressing room albeit not on the pitch Another manager losing the dressing room, is there a common denominator?

Alan Stewart

That is the first time I have heard the managers comments after yesterday’s shitshow. In what planet were we better in the 2nd half? We were awful for 90 minutes ffs?!? This is only going to end one way. Totally dissolutioned with our club. Sick fed up with it.

Graeme McLeod

He understood the Belgium league, style of play, mentality etc for a start. None of that applies with us. And there's nobody at the club above him or around him to get that message across - Alex Rae is there as a token Rangers man, and probably only because he coached in Belgium under Eck. We've largely got a team of second rate foreigners too, with nobody there getting across to them the standards expected at the club . Even Advocaat kept a few guys around who knew the club and could get that across to new signings. In his first two successful seasons anyway, funnily enough...

Michael

Completely get that point but surely a style of play doesn’t require players who know what it means to play for rangers. A style of play should be able to be coached into any professional footballer and we aren’t seeing it, surely his teams in Belgium had clear identities if they were winning league titles? Hes spent near on 20 million quid and we dont look any better for it. If someone said to me the board are about to appoint a manager who won multiple leagues with a similar budget to us in a better league, everyone would be absolutely buzzing. No idea how it’s become such a mess.

Rona Bluebell

Can Deja vu have Deja vu? We’re trapped in a downward spiral of painful familiarity. It’s uncanny.

Brian Rae

I really don't envy you David, having to watch that again. I often rewatch but I won't be going near that. I've heard Bomber was very vocal towards the performance yesterday on RTV, any idea what he was saying?

Martin Sutherland

9 wins in 18 league games. That’s all that matters. Sack him ASAP.

Mark Harvey

Usually after a defeat I wake up the next day and its the first thing on my mind. Today.... Nothing. Apathy has set in for the first time in my life and apathy amongst supporters is an absolute disaster for football clubs.

Charles McIntyre

I was prepared to give PC to the end of the Season and I think that was being fair to him. I didn’t expect to win the league this Season or qualify for the Champions League but I did expect PROGRESSION as the Season went on. So far there’s no sign of it and perhaps even regression. If it continues in this vain I’m not sure we should be giving him another transfer window in January. Jo Potter has had a much better hand dealt to her than PC. If she doesn’t win the League this Season with the Team she should be gone.

Fraser Black

Having taken the day to reflect & like the rest of you I’m sure, be in an utterly low mood, the amount of similar comments between on here & the likes of FF is now really startling. We have now really moved to a new place as a fan base. For the first time in 10 years, I now feel like the constant stream of domestic disappointment has taken its toll. Apathy is sweeping over all of us. How many times have we watched that same game since 2016? How many managers? How many different players? It’s now became the norm, 2021 is the outlier. It’s the same process, new manager comes in, little bounce, then revert to type. We all now can’t pretend that Clement wasn’t a popular choice from the beginning, but there must be something entirely rotten in the club which means this same process keeps happening again & again. Regardless of who the manager is. This situation runs much deeper than “get rid of the manager”. It needs fixing from the top. Having said all that, the issues with this team & set up are truly frustrating. Bennett’s last awful act was to extend a contract for a manager who couldn’t find a way to get us past Ross County & Dundee to win us a title. And hasn’t beaten Celtic yet in a year. Madness. Apologies for the scatter gun slightly ranty approach but just feel like the club I know is slipping further & further away from what I knew it to be with each passing year. And the truly frightening thing is, I think this opinion is now shared by the majority rather than the minority for the first time since I can remember (36)

Michael Gray

Clement has to start making big decisions fast. Otherwise any minimal support the fans have for him is gone. It’s clear Dessers and Tav must be dropped. There is no upside to keeping them in the team. Bring in some players who can actually grow

Mark Harvey

Most of us were realistic about the title. But we expected some sort of gradual improvement. The opposite is happening.

Duncan

David, Out of interest what gigs were you at over the weekend? Let’s stick to the positives.

Niall MacKay

I was pleading for calm two weeks ago but that was when we were winning. I can barely stomach the thought of watching us on Thursday now, it's that depressing a spectacle. We barely create any chances of note now. Two things concern me a lot: 1) Our European performances tend to be a bit sharper, faster and better. Even in the Lyon game we were pinging it about with purpose for the most part. Seems like the team are a lot more comfortable in that environment. 2) The references to learning. Rangers is not a place to learn. Our educational mistakes come in 4-1 wins at home, not defeat. I honestly don't know how we fix this. The whole club is completely fragile and now the fans are turning. We need some kind of revolution that guts this place and reapplies some standards.

Bob McMillan

My defence for Clement has been he has started with an awful squad and i dont think transfers did anything to help....but thats been chipped away by him sticking to a system that cant work and ridiculous comments too. Dont see him being a success sadly

Duncan

Hope you enjoyed them. I saw The Libertines twice, once acoustic in a record store and once at the Barrowands. So was having a great week up until yesterday!

Steven Links

The DU’s and your other podcasts have kept me (just about) sane throughout these last few years. Selfishly, to see other Bear’s heartache, makes you realise you’re not alone!

Charles McIntyre

Bumps in the road were to be expected and acceptable if we were on the right road which clearly at the moment we’re not.

@bluebeans

I find it staggering the Manager repeats and repeats, his credibility and judgement are beyond repair. Where we go from here….pffft

Tommy

Clement has far too many excuses despite saying he's not using excuses Keeps talking about new players, it's nearly November There isn't a clear tactic or plan, zero entertainment either

Calum Robertson

2nd half was better - yes we went from rank rotten in the 1st to just plain rotten in the 2nd. Genuinely worrying how we get a lifeline with Saturdays result and we never looked in any way like we were desperately trying to claw points back

David_Davy_Dave

Sadly agree with all you had to say today Been calling for 3 at the back for a while. Likewise I agree if you have 2 strikers and neither can play up top on their own playing them together seems a logical change to make It’s the lack of heart that is the killer. Just seems to me dropping points at Killie is acceptable now regardless of any sound bites players come out with afterwards. We keep doing it so by definition it’s accepted What they may lack in skills I think Shankland & McLean would have made up for on aggression and effort (at least using yesterday as a benchmark against current players)

Robbie McCarroll

Agree 100% with the Q&A at the end. My concern is you don’t need to be a pro coach to see this. We know Clement will not change the lineup and formation and that screams both arrogance in his blind faith of the tactics. He will loose the squad along with any goodwill he has with fans before the next window and at that point we can’t back him in January…think he is just a seat holder now till above him is sorted…

Jay

Very Nick Ross at the end there Davie👌

Jim McCutcheon

Phil harping on about excuses and he seems to be repeating the same old excuses each match , we are a poor side with no real cohesion and no depth on the bench to change up imo , the build up play is slow and predictable with no real penetration 😐,

Buff Richardson

This season Has Paul le Guen written all over it , someone phone big Eck…

Stuart F

It would be worth asking what made him fail in France. That was conveniently forgotten at the time of his appointment and probably more relevant

Scott

Never seen an overreaction like it in my life. Yesterday was a result/performance ive seen about 10 times at rugby park. We have a support base with Waitrose tastes and an Aldi budget

Paul Black

Good answer to the question at the end. I honestly don't know where we go from here. We are suffering from the 4 2 3 1, everyone knows that, but we went to their place with the 4 3 3 and a team everyone would probably picked and it was a, pains me to say, routine win for them. The "leadership" group have gone and we are still the same, you could argue worse! That surely has to be down to the management. Could go 3 5 2 as the chap says above but you need tactics to go with it and I have little to no faith in Clement in doing so

Tommy

Hi Scott, it's deeper than that mate. We're terrible just now.

Scott

You are right it is deeper than performances, managers or tactics. Faults run through the whole club. Keep sacking managers and join the man utd circus

Heart and Hand

You’re right and in an ideal world he gets the season to prove himself. But the reality is when the fans go, few managers bring it back.

Billy Forrester

Not an over reaction whatsoever, I like a lot of fans have been extremely patient and kept positive when we were serving up shit show after shit show, yesterday was the worst and I honestly couldn’t see us scoring after the first 15 mins of the game. I’d say 80% of the fanbase are seeing and now feeling the same and it won’t take many more performances like that to change the other 20%. Yes I hate the idea of changing managers every year but the alternative is sticking with this clown who is a stubborn idiot who persists with a system that a child can see doesn’t work

Scott

We’ve had a squad overhaul of around 25 players, brought in numerous players 20/21 years old while slashing the wage bill. Forced to start the season at Hampden. The fans are fed up and the performances have been poor, but in terms of the manager no-one has been extremely patient.

Billy Forrester

I beg to differ but if you’re happy watching the same ludicrous 4231 pish then crack on. You cannot excuse the fact he persists with a system that my daughter can see doesn’t work, he won’t change and is stubborn to the point of idiotically arrogant

Scott

I think the issue is our midfielders are currently weak as piss, regardless of where they are lined up. Manager wanted a 6 the whole window and didnt get one.

SC81

Tell me the last 3 Rangers performances you really enjoyed? I'd say Hearts 5-0 last year. After that I am pretty much going back to Leipzig. Shelling out the guts of £2000 a year on tickets and strips (for my kids) out of a sense of duty.

Craig Ferguson

I really can’t get my head around what the rush was to give him a new contract at the start of this season. It’s a bizarre decision for me 😩

Colin

I don't even get angry anymore, that says it all

John Palmer

If Rangers are not careful then we'll be staring down the barrell of Them across the City doing the 10 and beyond. The League is 100% gone and it's not even November yet. Our Club truly is a Shambolic mess and those left in charge look devoid of any Clue of what to do or how to run a Football Club.

maccalsa

Steven Gerrard? Players came to us because of Steven Gerrard, with the pull of playing for him and trying to compare playing for Clement is apples and oranges
