Summer 2018 and Rangers had a new mananger. After a legendary career at Liverpool, Steven Gerrard took his first steps in to management with the Gers. First up, he had to build a squad.

How did we get from a day like this to where we are now. It’s ridiculous. We won’t attract a new manager with a profile like his (or Souness) while the club is a fiasco of vacancies in the management and executive positions and with a lack of new investment. This series might be more painful to listen to because of what we’re going through currently than some of the banter years chapters and that’s really saying something.

I gave up listening during the “banter” years, couldn’t take listening to that shite. Gerrard gave me my club back, he’s part of our history now but by Jesus god I miss him.

Standards, from day one Gerrard demanded and represented standards. Players were fit, organised and lifted their game. Such an exciting time and despite not having massive financial backing this season, we competed and earned respect again.

Great point on the immediate improvement Gerrard gave to the squad. Turns out it doesn't need tens of millions and endless windows before seeing improvements. Totally agree on the size of the challenge he took on too.
