On the opening day of the season Rangers dropped 2 points at Tynecastle and have been playing catch up ever since. Hearts form peaked that day and resulted in Steven Naismith being sacked.
Both teams played in Europe this week with Rangers drawing in Greece as Hearts lost at home.
Can Rangers keep in touching distance of the league leaders?

Gents, as always top content. I very much like the Raskin / Barron partnership but I absolutely agree with the need for more goals from all over the team. While the much maligned Dessers will always attract the focus of ire the reality is as a team we dont create or take enough chances and the midfield should be getting much more in terms of numbers. The industry of both Raskin and Barron is undeniable but we now need to see an uplift in quality of passing, output and in the case of Raskin he has to stay fit. I will absolutely recognise the efforts midweek and acknowledge an excellent Euro performance and result but while for some it seems to have reset the mood I will confess to still being ‘in the huff’ with the team. One game in a competition we have no chance of winning doesnt change my absolute disgust at how we have played or set ourselves up domestically. I may be in the minority but the fundamentals that were there last week are still there and while for many simply dropping Tav or Dessers solves all ills it doesnt for me. By the law of averages Clement throwing jelly at the wall and hoping something sticks will bear fruit, it will take a proper run domestically and demonstrable improvement for me to change my mind on the team and Clement. Im not someone who relates to the bile that some, not you guys, spout about Dessers. I am sick hearing of the litany of failings Dessers has while seeming him isolated up front and being asked to do things he can’t then slated for it. I am not blind that he is going to work for us and I am actually at the point I just feel that the support hounding him bores me senseless. The group think around him is horrendous as is the glee some fans take in slating him. The guys a flawed striker, who I suspect when he moves will maintain his wages and possibly even generate a fee that shocks a few, but he is at least a striker who plays and contributes unlike so many we have signed recently. I personally would have Igmane and Dessers up front to complement and support the elements of both their games. I am bored senseless watching wingers throw balls in or full backs swing balls in to nobody, having an actual presence camped in the box would be far more effective. Danilo to me will always be too lightweight and small for Scotland, thats if he can even stay fit. I was sent a pic from a mate who was at the Stenny game and got a pic with Danilo and his 14 year old son is bigger than the boy. I suspect in a physical league he doesnt make it. Enjoyed the chat, hopefully we are indeed turning a corner but I still can’t get over the feeling Clement just doesnt have it and while we will get the odd bright spot in Europe the league will remain a slog . Thanks as always for the honest views and cracking work you put in.

Dessers is a modern day Ted McMinn in a sense of takes your breath away 1 minute and you're shaking your head in disbelief the next ....... on the Europe form thing is it a case of playing a " new team " so players tune in more and concentration levels are at a optimum ?

There's no doubt Dessers is frustrating to watch at times. However I believe he doesn't get enough credit when as you say he scores an exquisite goal. We are all guilty of leaning to far into the negativity with him and it's an unfortunate byproduct of Beale's shambolic era. Dessers isn't the answer longer term but he is the only answer for now he needs encouragement and I definitely know what a difference one against the other makes. Overall I thought that's the best midfield performance since we lost Davo

By far the biggest problem with Dessers is that our system doesn’t play to his strengths.

Vanb bryceter

You may have a point but I think or hope the team is beginning to gel. We are beginning to move the ball quicker and play more on the ground going through the middle so fingers crossed he can convert more than he misses

Thing outside of Celtic no other team will afford us the space in the last 3rd that Olympiacos did at times

McCrae’s Battalion is one of the most beautiful and heartbreaking stories of all time

Diomande is a bigger problem than dessers, diomande contributes absolutely nothing, hopefully hagi plays the 10 role today but I doubt it.

Stevie might not link the titanic analogy but surely it’s the most apt ? High quality materials put together solidly but let down by utter mismanagement and being allowed to take catastrophic damage that slowly sank it….sounds about right. Not sure I am in agreement about Cerny either, not our player, not here long term not consistent in performance in game nearly as much as is as made out. We latch onto deeply flawed players far too often as a support, when everything else is bland it’s easy to stand out by being a bit less bland, to me thats Cerny. Haven’t seen a full half s output from him never mind 90. Plus I just have no affinity for loans. Rather than playing the scapegoat game some like to and focusing on the podcast money players who generate heat, the main reason this manager wont succeed is he is regressing the team and players visibly week on week. No player will get this guy the sack, no player power either as they don’t even seem to be particularly friendly or cliquey anymore, they like us are just apathetic. I have criticised the board, and will continue to. I will criticise the signing policy and profile, and continue to but the single suggest issue here is the manager who has failed to grasp how simple Scottish football is, how simple the clubs ethos is and what the fans will buy into. Like many other he has over complicated a physical league where effort and organisation are king and he refuses to accept it. Making excuse after excuse, having the same injury issues that Beale had after slating the sports science, playing a bizarre formation that doesn’t work, playing players out of position and now talking utter nonsense might have worked before but it wont wash now off of a decade of dismal teams and largely dismal performances from the team domestically. This squad unlike others recently has talent, energy and potential. Even those fans love to hate we’re contributing up until a few months ago, sure not at the rate we wanted but most players were pitching in last season to some extent. We are blunting every good aspect of the guys we sign and dragging them down. Some people were proposing nobody passes to Dessers as he loses the ball, the flip side of that is why would you make runs or put yourself about when you get zero service ? When you look up and nobody is around you or making efforts to run beyond and the system makes you look worse than you are at what point is he allowed to say fuck it ? The issue thats haunted us from almost every season bar the one Morelos actually scored domestically has been a lack of goals. The striker is now expected to shell in 40 goals a season and the others get off with a few. The sums are wrong. We should be money balling this and getting 20-25 from the striker, 10 from the wings, 8-10 from midfield and a smattering across the rest. We should be two up top and taking the game to teams not fancying about trying to cross from all angles into a single striker. We haven’t and are still not set up to create chances often enough or of a high enough quality as we mask poor player ability by setting up defensively in a league that loves when you slow down and take your time OR throw balls into a packed box. I don’t need coaching badges to tell that. I wanted Clement, I liked his attitude and rhetoric originally it seemed direct and no nonsense a bit like the football he promised. Sadly we have found out it’s all nonsense and we aren’t direct at all except in the most amateur launch it forward way. This squad we have could do more, it could be coached better and the players we have, even the flawed ones, could be contributing much much more in a different set up and framework of tactics. This is 100% on the manager this time and its gone past any salvage point, I genuinely can’t listen with any enthusiasm to any more nit picking around individuals or over hyping bang average guys thats way down my list of issues I have with this team or the club. Do better with what we have, then bring in better than what we have when we can and use them better again. Stop making excuses, stop pretending Scottish football is hard to set up for, drill well, coach properly and instil some dig, with our baseline better quality we would never be worse than second.
