Calum McManus

With January coming up and us linked with a number of young Scottish players. What hopes do McKinnon, Fraser and Lovelace really have in breaking in to the first team ? All players we are told are held highly but get little to no game time. We don’t promote nearly enough of our best young players into our first team

Fraser86

Any news on Finlay curtis bring in and around these bounce games first team, wide players that score goals is the modern st 👌

David Innes

I think Lovelace still has a chance but McKinnon and Fraser have obviously been deemed not good enough. I doubt either of them will be here next season. We want young players to get a chance but the only way they improve is by learning from mistakes but in our league the margin for error is so low that we can’t afford them to make mistakes so they don’t get a chance. It’s a vicious cycle that’s been going on for decades.

Calum McManus

It’s a shame - I think Rice and Curtis will probably end up out the door as well. Says a lot about the level of our academy/B team. As you say vicious cycle but the fans may be more patient with some of the mistakes from the younger players than the ones being made by dessers & the other diddys! Personally, I would sell Yilmaz back to turkey and keep Fraser as back up to Jefte.

Ryan Stewart

Wouldn’t be holding out hope for any of them tbh. Fraser and McKinnon are both 21, they aren’t young boys anymore, they need to get out and play. Lovelace can barely even get a spot on the bench when we’ve no wingers fit, he’s also out of the contract in the summer and why would he stay?

Calum McManus

I agree completely, whether they are good enough is also another question. definitely need a good crop of young Scottish players in the side but they need to be good enough. I think Lovelace will go unless he gets regular minutes in the first team so might as well say goodbye now. Also changing formation wouldn’t go a miss but won’t hold my breath.

Jordan McKay

Ross McCausland apparently missed a training session (unconfirmed) to visit his old primary school (definitely happened) yesterday so I suspect he’s not going to be playing on Friday at least.

James

I’d be delighted if we could get Olaru and a proven striker in. It would really lift us and I feel results would begin to improve miraculously!

Graeme McLeod

It was understandable years ago when we were signing established internationalists and/or winning honours. Now? We sign foreign dross and win nothing. There's no excuses at this point for not giving academy talent like Rice or Curtis a try other than they're the wrong nationality for the foreigners making the decisions.

Ryan Stewart

Findlay Curtis who’s scored about 60 goals in the last year is also out of contract in the summer I believe. If I was advising these boys I’d be telling them to get as far away from Rangers and Scottish Football as possible. We are an absolute graveyard for young players, just look at Bailey Rice who Motherwell rated ahead of Lennon Miller

James McSween

It’s mad we are pinning hopes on Matondo to give us pace in the team, he should have been sold last season. Not a chance that Clement will give Lovelace or any other B team player a lot of game time when he’s under so much pressure to win games.

Martin Boyd

I don’t think I would be using Kilmarnock or Aberdeen away as examples of shocks , if you don’t mind me saying. Our results at both have been pretty shit since we came back up. Ross C , away and Motherwell home last season were dreadful results and performances. We don’t play quick enough forward and watching us can be a bit of a drag even during games when we play well for a bit. But I genuinely don’t think it’s all down to tactics quite a lot of it is down to players who are not doing what they should, either really slack passing or going back into their shells.

Spoon

My own preference would be to shop local for talent and avoid loans \ short term options to save money for whoever is fielding the team next year. Constantly using loans is false economy to me unless it’s loan to buy, we are also selling our young players short keeping them in limbo, we should be using or releasing them. If we bring any loan or foreign player in this window they will hardly play by the time they settle and get to ilea so seems a bit redundant.

Stephen

100%. We must have the one of most inefficient youth systems in Europe. Any decent kid would see we offer zero opportunity to get to the first team. Also, I wouldn’t be trusting Koppen/Clement with spend any more than £1 million on a player.

Heart and Hand

Loans are a part of modern football. They’re not always about developing talent, often they are about fixing short-term issues. The settling in point is valid but points to another failing in that at Rangers it seems to take every player sodding months to settle!

Robert White

On good enough. Barron? We should buy the best youngsters in Scotland. They are clearly good enough for our league. Save the cash for a small no. of quality.

Jim Milne

Any word from or around the club regarding the unfilled positions? John Gilligan's been chariman for almost 2 months and I find it surprising, and if I'm honest disgusted that we still have unfilled important positions for this long.

Spoon

Your logic is impeccable. I remain against them, we need to get serious about developing our own talent, utilising our resources better and I have no interest in a team filled with another clubs players unless we are using it to try before we buy. I’m not arguing on facts but feels, I remain an unrepentant anti loaner.

Calum McManus

Barron is a good example, we should buy the best in Scotland and it works. We should be looking at others but that also highlights the deficiency in our academy product that none of our youth are at that level that we need to spend the money elsewhere.

Mark Boyd

My ex wife was from Clydebank too…..aye. If I speak then I am in trouble

Martin Boyd

Again if you will forgive me I think the fans are in such a forment that the price rises in pies would make them riot🤣 The performances were awful but not something we haven’t seen before over the last 5 years at those grounds, I don’t think we have won both games at them since we came back. I could of course be wrong would not the first or last time.

Fraser86

Shame to hear a bout a young lad doing well and not getting pushed by the club, should do it as early as possible get him training with the big bits getbhim loaned out see what he's got,

Heart and Hand

To be honest, the search under Gilligan started the day he did. So it’s only been two months which is pretty standard at that level. However, it isn’t only two, it’s six in total which is shambolic and on the board.

Heart and Hand

Can’t argue against using youngsters but apparently there’s an invisible forcefield at Rangers which prevents putting them on the park at times. Luckily the likes of Dowell can get through it. Only explanation I can think of anyway!

Spoon

I’m gutted for guys like Lovelace, a genuine tale, had the talent, had the build and balls to go far from what I saw of him and came to us from Millwall where he played first team football only to be stuck in a deep freeze. The amount of promising careers we have stagnated over the years is criminal. I can’t see the pull for any youngster coming to us bar a fan loyalty nowadays. It’s a travesty we don’t utilise our own but will drop £millions on a foreign talent on potential. Then we bemoan when we are priced out a former SPL youngster who is picked up down south or abroad. I get it’s simplistic but I want to cheer on our own players, I can live with some not making it but I just don’t relate to guys like Cherny as an example as I couldn’t care less about him as he’s not our player or likely to be our player. Footballs about emotional attachment and I’m not a fan of the whole cult of player personality, I don’t want to meet them, I like them for what they do for Rangers and leave who they are as people largely to the side. Loans are a step again removed from that for me, a view only.

Rose Mcloughlin

When I think back to Derek Johnstone playing for Rangers at 16 and we nurse our young ones at 18. 19. And 20...if they are good enough play them ..we will never know how many good players we have let go in the past.

David_Davy_Dave

Speaking of old firm cup games, the 2nd is still showing at a 3 o’clock kick off. That can’t be right? I assume it will change in due course but given it’s a public holiday it would be good to be able to plan

Heart and Hand

Apparently not! I'm pretty surprised but I have asked several times and the answer is it's staying at 3 every time.

Ben

Lovelace is free to speak to other clubs in 7 weeks time and by all indications will be doing so…so I’d rather we looked at a replacement for him for the coming window

Spoon

It’s also the right thing to do, bringing bright young talent to the club to let it wither on the vine isn’t the classy thing to do. I get we are a business at heart and the business is a tough one but why waste resource time and money on something that’s a charade. This is in part why I want us to move from loans and actually invest in our people and their development. I genuinely believe we could have had from the youth team a significant amount of talent if we bled them in early enough that would have allowed our transfer business to be more focused, more clinical and we would have been looking for key prices each year instead of rafts of players where half were outs and we know the odds say only maybe an optimistic 50-60% make an impact. Using the domestic market including the youth market must be our mantra and ethos moving forward.

Spoon

In fairness it’s an equal opportunity cluster we don’t play some of the senior guys and the ones we do half aren’t in their own position….. And don’t call me Shirley…..

Robbie McCarroll

When Ridvan is fit I wonder if playing him at LB and Jefte LW is an option, at least as long as Ridvan is fit…sounds decent to me

Spoon

We have become a club who find reasons not to play guys and all the wrapping in cotton wool generating players less mentally and physically robust cant be a coincidence. I get the days of dying for the jersey are gone…..but at least die for your FIFA stat or tik toks whatever the youngsters value these days. We don’t help players by giving them excuses not to play or perform, ikea furniture not being built has to take the biscuit. Imagine telling Jock Wallace or Souness you weren’t available as you had a sideboard to build.?! They would have two footed you.

Heart and Hand

We are way too slow to do it. Not meaning to pick on him but Dowell is an obvious example. Bog standard player who gets game time ahead of bleeding a youngster in.

John Palmer

Kasanwirjo is a good player but he hasn't shown or said that he'd be keen to stay at Rangers after his loan. Anytime he's interviewed and Feyenoord comes up, he pretty much says he's looking forward to returning to Holland. With all of that, Sterling should be getting pushed ahead of him and played at right back as the Season goes on. Tav is clearly getting phased out and we need the replacement to have game time.

Dave White

Great tune, haven't heard that band in years.

Dave White

If Matondo is the answer to our problems then we're worse than I thought.

Chris Scott

This worked well earlier in the season I thought. We actually looked strong down the left with Jefte higher up and Ridvan behind him.
