Holy fcuk … does this shambles of a board never learn? Or are they just cheap beyond belief?

KennyY

They do this job shuffling thing at my work but never recruit anyone. It tends to just leave other departments in the shit until they steal a member of staff from another department and so the cycle goes on.

james whyte

Tune! The board basically have no idea what they are doing do they? "Winning is all that matters at this Club" Koppen. It used to be that way. We are currently a shadow of what we should be. A total mess. At what point do this board actually wake up, stop doing the same nonsense over and over and go hire proper, experienced people for the major roles in the Club and get us going again.

Alan Weir

“Promoting from within” is only a good strategy when an individual is successful and has the skillset necessary for the new post. At Ibrox, we are employing people to do a job and then sometime down the line deciding they are the best possible option for an entirely different job. It’s tinpot and the only reason it’s happening is to save money. The current Head of Paper Clips is probably in line for CEO if they interview well.

Gary

Spot on. Most of us don’t like to be cynical, but in the case of Rangers it’s hard not to be when the cynicism we do have is based on stacks of evidence!

David Gardner

Regarding Kasa…. Maybe we just don’t sign this injured player? … for once.

Andrew Whiteside

Would have preferred the Koppen announcement to be made as part of a larger announcement on Chair and CEO and a replacement for Koppens recruitment role. To do this in isolation just looks odd.

Jim Milne

This appointment tells me that's the board are doubling down on Clement & Koppen. Whatever they're both telling the board behind closed doors, the board and likely the Parks/Bennett are 100% buying into and fully supportive of. Be prepared everyone, Clement isn't going anywhere IMO, and this "project" is here for at least the remainder of the season, and likely the summer transfer window too.

Alan Weir

Spot on James. I’m personally sick of the cliched garbage Rangers players and staff spout, treating life-long supporters like we are idiots happy to nod at the simplistic “winning is good” nonsense.

Andrew Hillis

Well done John Souttar - he was excellent last night! As for Koppen appointment - you would have thought any new permanent Chairman and CEO would have wanted to have a big say in the appointment of a Technical Director? The problem is he has no track record of being a successful Technical Director! This extensive recruitment search won’t build confidence amongst an already doubting fan base. Where are we with the other appointments David - any news at all?

Graham Roy

NK makes sense to me based on where we currently are. He has cut the wage bill and signed players that theoretically should generate more revenue. That would have been part of his job when brought in and from board level he has done that. The CEO is the most important position and that needs filled and then allow them time to evaluate the structure of the club and the team in place. I get the negative feeling towards this but for me it’s more a reflection on where the club are rather than another bad decision.

Craig

Hoping that A. this has been run by an incoming CEO and B. Koppen has being doing a lot of this stuff already. But that's all you can do when the club make a decision now, sit there and hope.

Kirk Guthrie

Happy birthday David, safe travels!

Jordan McKay

I think Koppen will turn out okay but I totally understand the negative sentiment. Having a technical director also means there’s now someone at the club with the authority to make a decision on the manager that an incoming CEO can ratify.

Martin Boyd

Good luck Mr Koppen if you didn’t know before you will soon find out it’s a tough (being polite) crowd 🤣 Happy birthday for tomorrow young Man.

Graham Roy

Totally agree the position needs filled sooner rather than later so promoting makes sense. Don’t see point in spunking thousands on someone that could end up getting moved on by new CEO. Once CEO is appointed they can evaluate and make long term decisions.

Jim McCutcheon

Time will tell if in fact this'll be a good move and appointment, or is it another money saving move within the club 🤔, Time will tell , thanks again David 👍

james whyte

Happy Birthday for tomorrow Davie. Safe travels 👍

Scott Corral

“Best in class” got to be up there with one that bit us in the arse.

Tamus

Just f*** off Rangers with your utter shit-show

Mr J K Murray

if we had talent we would not be sitting 3rd, the signings have not improved our actual game, he bought players in that cannot play 90minutes, seen games where it has been so bad, this last year since they came in, that were as bad as a decade ago, this is just bad management repeating itself, he has not been successful in his 1st job, lol, things have got worse, as you say this continued clearing & planting has not produced any fruit, we want fruit from the pitch to the board room, it is not happening, yors captious questioner

David Baillie

Good luck to Nils Koppen. It’s absolutely essential that our academy is completely overhauled. Connor Barron has broken into the Scotland squad. Lennon Millar is getting rave reviews and a potential £4m price tag. Ben Doak has come in to the Scotland team and been outstanding. The common denominator with these 3 lads is that they’re playing competitively week in week out and learning their trade. Sort it out please Nils. Where are the next Greegs, Hutton and Patterson?

Oliver Young

Koppen’s two big money signings in Cortes and Diomande is where he will be judged. At this point, the two have contributed zero to the team. I’m not sure that giving the man who is struggling to rebuild the squad an even bigger workload is a smart decision. It’s a lazy appointment given to a man with zero experience of the role. It’s a role appointed with cost cutting in mind. And surely a new CEO should have been the first appointment to allow him to restructure the organisation?

Brian Rae

Yet more internal promotions of personnel that may or may not be qualified for the job. It's bit us in the arse every time so far, so I'll not be holding my breath for instant success in this instance. Going from a scout to Technical director in less than a year is some going but I suppose someone needs to be steering the ship and all the accountability that comes with it.

Doogz

I have zero confidence of this board ever making the right appointments, Graeme Park in particular

Andrew Hind

Happy birthday and enjoy your trip to Dubai

Damien Stubbs

The soundbitiest off sound bites eh 😂 HBD for tomorrow mate 🥳

Damien Stubbs

Also. You’re right about the cynics, rangers drove me to looking into that philosophy, thankfully stoicism has stood me in better stead 😂

CRAIG CASSELLS

Spot on, my initial thoughts summed up perfectly. What exactly has Koppen done to be appointed Technical Director? Shouts out as nothing other than an easy, lazy internal appointment. Until this Board leaves I don't believe the mediocrity that surrounds the club will persist.

Tom Davison

The younger guys will never get better until they are given the opportunity to play regular competitive football. The Jardines, Durrants, etc. developed when the reserve league was in place.

Tom

That's a ludicrous idea, it'll never catch on.

QB_72

Happy birthday tomorrow David, have a splendid wee day.

Scott Cameron

Spot on David on the reasons behind technical director scepticism, echoes my own thoughts

Heart and Hand

I have been waiting for this all day - take a bow! I've got a fever and the only prescription is more cowbell.

Gareth bennie

Happy Birthday for tomorrow David. You are 1 year and 364 days older than me!

Brian Rae

Exactly, It's screaming lazy and cheap but I sincerely hope we're wrong.

Rona Bluebell

Happy Birthday young David. Remember and pack your favourite crisps for the flight ✈️ 🥳

Monkspath Miko

I was late to the pod today and saw 45 comments. I was sure someone would have beaten me to it. Arguably the best SNL sketch ever.

Aidan Wyllie

In 2 transfer windows, Koppen has failed to recruit a first choice number 9. We are also well under equipped in central defence. 2 key areas of the team. Considering what’s been spent in Koppen’s 2 transfer windows as head of recruitment, I don’t feel he succeeded in his previous role. Another lazy, easy, cheap appointment from the board to make Koppen DoF. The board seriously need held to account at the AGM.

Stephen

Correct. It’s just giving Koppen twice as much work to do and the jury is still out on whether or not he is good at the original role. It’s just another example of how far off the pace we are these days.

David Clapperton

Completely agree with your point about the internal appointments David. It hasn’t worked for us over the years but it’s also exactly the reason why I disagree with another of your points over the last wee while. I don’t like the idea that if the manager needs to be removed we bring in an interim manager to get us through till the end of the season. If this happens, I think we need to be prepared for whoever comes in to, eventually, be given the job full time by this board. These players have already proven that they respond well (at first) to a new voice and by its nature, a stop gap appointment means the guy will be available, affordable and probably willing to do as he’s told to get the job. It’s the same old stuff. Cheap, easy and uninspiring. Hopefully we don’t need to worry about it and this works out better.

Andy MacArthur

As per usual the board have chosen the cheapest and easiest option. How do they expect him to fulfil all these roles competently, it is ridiculous. Remember when we had no DOF and put Beale in full control of transfers as well as the coaching 🤦‍♂️. Do the club ever learn! I hope I’m proven wrong

Grant MacLean

Needed a tune like that to distract from the nonsense!

Graeme McLeod

At the rate that Clement and Koppen are rewarded for failure, they'll end up owning the club within a few years.

David Campbell

It's madness to make this appointment before a ceo.

David Tod

It’s as if the board got together and said “what can we do to wind them up again?”

Martes

So the guy who, along with the manager, was responsible for mostly recruiting players that struggle to play in the physical top league in Scotland. Is now responsible for the overall operations of the football side. Shows where the board’s priorities lie. Win points in Europe to keep the finances just ticking over, but be Third in a Two Horse Race. Ibrox will be two thirds empty by the end of the season with this acceptance of mediocrity.

Kevin Blyth

The first thing I’d say is that I really hope that Koppen does well. We need him to. My issue with putting him into that role is that the current board has shown, many times, that it doesn’t always make good business decisions and doesn’t seem to be very good at strategy. I’d have thought that they’d wait for the he incoming Chairman and CEO before making such a key strategic decision. It didn’t have to be made now.

Steven Miller

The worry amongst our support is understandable but some of the rancid negativity from many within our fanbase is disappointing...mostly on social media. I know we've had many a kick in the bollox in recent years but the constant moaning, bitching and whining over every single decision made by the club is becoming boring. Good luck Nils 👍🏻

Sharon Craig

Happy birthday David x ❤️🤍💙

Colin Mathie

We're moaning cause hes proven sod all in his actual role, yet hes being promoted, its ridiculous!

Graham Jones

I share your frustration and suspicions. Why else are they making this appointment before they’ve appointed a new permanent chairman and CEO? Surely that would be the remit of those positions to make fill those positions. I have a lot of time for Nils Koppen, and I do think he’s miles above what Ross Wilson was, which isn;t saying much to be fair, but it’s the cart before the horse again that this board seem to excel at. They never give off any confidence when they do something and that’s the crux of the matter. Until the make-up of the board has changed and we have a proper leader again then there will be a lot of questions with any appointment. They wont bring King back because there’s too much animosity, but they need someone who will stand up to them and question their logic, and they don’t want to be talked back to in any way. We have a problem when people like that are in charge and keep making the wrong decisions. My only hope is that Gilligan can offer a bit more guidance and distanced to the likes of the Park’s, who carry most of the responsibility for the place we’ve ended up. They chose to cut when we should’ve invested. Not spent, because anyone can spend, but invest properly in the squad when it was on top.

Heart and Hand

I feel a bit bad because it’s not his fault. He might well turn out to be excellent, he’s a very clever fella. It’s just hard not to feel a bit ‘here we go again’.

Jamie

If he was in charge of the recruitment over the summer we’ve a right to be worried about his promotion. Another shit show

Graham Miller

David you may well be right about this appointment but your general negativity is really making me want to switch off. Has Koppen the qualifications or experience for this role? Let’s see what happens. In the end the club has little money so whoever we have in these positions are working with one hand tied behind their back. Let’s hope Dubai cheers you up

Heart and Hand

Well Graham I do apologise but I can only be honest. If I'm not feeling it I'm not going to lie about it. I haven't felt I've been particularly negative, more realistic but opinions are there to differ! I'm actually a pretty happy wee soul all in :-)

Graeme McLeod

If Koppen hasn't been in his current role long enough to judge if he's good at it, why the heck should anyone give the board the benefit of the doubt over promoting him? Especially given we could appoint a CEO who may then want to overhaul everything including that role. It's still doing things backwards.

8luenose1872

We have a clown with most of the power in that diddy Park who is utterly clueless in football matters regarding running a club like Rangers and the worst thing is he doesn't know it. He's more interested in holding grudges no matter how it effects the club.

Graham Hendry

As Tam Forsyth said on stage one night “what a club, honestly, what a club”

8luenose1872

I was thinking the same thing, Its Parks make up all day that is, hes getting slaughtered by the fans regularly and i wouldn't put it past him.

Jim

Happy birthday tomorrow Davie People keep going on about director of football position and getting someone suitable in How did that work with Ross Wilson. We are still cleaning up his mess nearly two years on Mark Allen wasn’t exactly an overwhelming success, probably better than Wilson but made some crazy crazy buys

Heart and Hand

I don’t think we have a good no 9 right Jim, it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t get a no 9! The job still needs done, just by better people.

Heart and Hand

I genuinely looked for why I should feel positive but as Koppen has no experience in this role to guide me, then any feelings of positivity have to come from a belief that the club know what they’re doing. And that, I’m afraid, I can’t summon up right now.

stefan strzelecki

Surely, the new CEO should be positioning his strategic vision, with the recruitment of such a role. Any potential CEO will need to initiate his role, already undermined. There is no tangible evidence that Koppen has even been an asset in his present role. The recruitment of a sporting director, by the new CEO , would have provided the board with, and club, the chance to evidence , the competence of corporate leadership being actioned. I think this unorthodox appointment , leads me to believe , that the vacant elite leadership roles , will be filled by subservient, inexperienced, stooges. The club must be preparing for , new investors , and shareholders with clout. The nuclear option , that this is the strategic way forward in terms of vision, and ambition, is far more worrying than this appointment .

Brian McLatchie

Nothing to back this up, they have got to know who the new CEO is and they would have to have been involved in this. decision. If not the board just not giving a toss
