Get him oot Sharon

Alan Weir

Andy - I think we have sub-standard players back, midfield and front with all three areas lacking any cohesion or organisation. The defenders offer so little support to the rest of the team beyond the odd 10-20 yard pass; the attackers allow opposition players to stroll out and pressurise our defence. It is bewildering to think we spent comparatively good money on dumplings like Propper and Dessers, two players who are mirror images in terms of strength, leadership and what they contribute to our team.

Jim McCutcheon

Thanks guys, can't say I agree with all your opinions but then again it's all about everyone's view on the current situation

Alan Cowan

I watched Dessers hide for 45 minutes on Saturday By that I mean , typically when the cross did come in , he was in-between the 2 central defenders, then complaining about the service. He is without any doubt, the worst football player I have ever seen in a Rangers strip. After that performance on Saturday, he should never kick another ball for us again. As for Cerny and Bajrami, both not for me. Cerny looks half decent because the rest are dreadful but Cerny is not good enough for us going forward, if we want to improve As for Clement saying the 2nd half was more like it, when he was judging it against the worst 1st half of football this season, treating the support as fools.

Greg Cameron

What happened to Diomande ? Clement got hold of him

James Muir

WHAT ARE THE ASSISTANT MANAGER AND OTHER COACHING STAFF DOING DURING TRAINING ? WORRIED FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON AND ONWARDS

Steven Carmichael

A good discussion, and telling when Andy says time to find cash to spend on players!

Alan Weir

Spot on, Greg. Diomande looked a decent prospect: calm on the ball, a decent passer and always keen to go forward. He can barely get a 10 yard pass to a blue jersey at the moment and is a shadow of the early season Dio.

JimGLW

Sadly Andy is spot on about Dessers. This is as bleak as i can ever remember

Colin Carstairs

Re Dessers:,Last season v Kilmarnock at home (Fabio having a go at the fans game3-1 Tav own goal) Dessers took a touch in the box & the chance went yet again, Clement along with the rest of the main Stand had a go.. Dessers turns around to the manager & gives him the shush sign along with the clam down movement. His sorry ar#e should have been tossed out & told to train with the under 18s till he moved on. Total disgrace of a professional to be so arrogant with that attitude. Clement sticking with him has cost him his job(eventually). Sir Walter,Advocatt etc would have taken him off straight away & booted him in the balls & told him to never darken the door again.

James

Jefte flatters to deceive. He isn’t providing much going forward and is poor defensively. I much prefer Yilmaz. Just my feeling. If he was assisting or scoring goals we could forgive his defensive aberrations but he isn’t. As far as Igamane goes, he might well come good and I genuinely think he has been protected hugely up to this point, but I have a nagging feeling about his long term future with us. I remember when Alfie started there were people saying he was crap, but within 4 or 5 games he was changing people’s minds. Igamane will probably be given this season to bed in but next season he will be judged more critically.

Jim Milne

Likely what Gio & Beale's assistants did, follow the managers instructions but likely disagreeing with them. It's a shitshow mate.

Jim Milne

Brutally honest discussion pod Cammy & Andy. Andy's Leon King point is bang on, I'd rather him play than Pröpper. I didn't play football to any great level but even 5 a side teams know they have to defend from the front. I still feel that Clement is here for the full season. I just don't see the board having the appetite to fire him. They'll point to downsizing, lack of funds he was promised, Clement taking on various roles while staff positioned went unfilled. All of which are true, but it doesn't negate the lack of learning to adapt to Scottish football after a year, same tactics irregardless of opposition. We will likely sign Shankland in January to appease the support, and if we do it'll anger me more that we didn't sign him a year ago when we could genuinely have won the league. I feel I write the same comments every week, only because I'm at a complete loss of what else to say.

Jim Milne

I think he's like a lot of players we buy Greg. Bags of potential but when the going gets tough they have a lack of mental strength. Combine that with likely not knowing their roles under Clement. Just my 2 cents.

Jim Milne

I am starting to think Dessers is George Weah's "other cousin". Imagine being Zak Lovelace and seeing Dessers play ahead of you.

James Muir

JIM WHAT ABOUT THIS SO COULD MONEY FOR TRANSFERS IN JANUARY ? ONE THING CIFUENTES IS DOING WELL IN GREECE GET HIM SOLD NEXT SUMMER 4.2 MILLION HOPEFULLY

Jim Milne

One other point. If Lundstram had signed an extension then I doubt we'd have signed Barron, who for me has been out best player. Clement is lost in Scottish football. Perhaps he would be a success again back in Belgium or with their national team but he's not good enough for us.

Dougie McAllister

Good pod guys... some really interesting points... I've defended Desser for long enough we need a forward in January which is never a good window at the best of times for any positions... our team has no pace what so ever...!

Alan Cowan

I cannot fathom why Zak was on the bench then disappears again. If Danillo starts, then both Igamane and Lovelace on the bench or buck then trend and play 2 up front, god forbid that ever happens FFS

Alan Weir

I have a worry Igamane will still be being called “raw” in a year’s time.

Tamus

I would take Ryan Kent back Ffs Andy

Don Maclean

Great pod as usual, cheers gents. The best way I can describe the difference in performance between our two main strikers is….. Dessers could play 90 mins, score and lose you a game. Danilo could play 90 mins, not score and win you a game.

Kenny Park

Andy so right at about 10 mins re lack of press. They run/jog towards opposition players but are just being seen to be there. They have no intention of actually tackling or winning the ball back. The “press” doesn’t exist. Pathetic really.

David Angus

Can't blame you for venting at Dessers. Any football fan with eyes has known for over a year ago he isn't good enough yet here we are. Truly staggering really. Pound for pound worst Rangers player I've witnessed. A statue who would struggle to get a game for Forfar

Alan Weir

Andy’s coverage of the current squad is close to flawless. His memory of Ryan Kent is playing tricks with him. Kent spent his final months running into the opposition and claiming non-existent fouls in an even less convincing way that Dessers does now. If Kent returns, I’ll be heading to Ibrox with the paraffin and matches.

Spoon

While Dessers remains a focal point for fans ire, in much the way Tav is for some, I think the week on week obsession with him distracts and in lots of ways excuses much bigger flaws. I have defended Dessers to an extent, not because I believe he is particularly great but he has been available, he has at times delivered goals and he hasn’t to my mind been played in a way that brings out the best in what abilities he has. I am not one of those who sees him as a dead loss however I am sick of seeing him being played in a way that everyone can see isn’t effective. Andy’s Dessers focus papers over all the other many cracks across the team, as Gerrard once said we attack as a team and defend as a team, why then is it always on Dessers, he sits up front and gets zero service? Also, who has come in and made the jersey their own. The narrative from some is that Danilo improved things when he came on, I disagree. I think the team rightly got a rocket and started to play with more urgency and people who hadn’t bothered running started running. I think the boy Cerny, the latest guy to be vastly overhyped, decided to actually turn up for a half, something he has been guilty of before where he plays in fits and starts. Turning up for 10 minutes a game and showing flashes isnt enough for a Rangers player, and with the best will in the world he isnt even a Rangers player he’s a loan. We had an overpaid guy who didn’t deliver before in Kent who was a tanner ball guy with unimpressive output, if we judge a winger on his defensive output then Rangers expectations have fallen some distance, these guys are miles off a McCann type on every metric. Danilo, who for some reason gets huge amount of slack for being a never available £6m signing thats sat in the stands and pulls in a huge weekly wage. He has played about 10 games worth of minutes and spent more time injured than anything else, he also despite all the hype, hasnt scored when he has chances and if we are judging strikers on goals then he is no better than the rest we have. My own view is that he is far too small and i suspect wont ever stay fit, the biggest selling point for most is they hate Dessers and are willing him to be better just so they dont see Dessers playing. We have now seen Igmane, Danilo and Dessers struggle to get decent quality chances. We have seen a slavish obsession with firing crosses in to the box to a single striker up against 3 or 4 defenders then we blame the striker ? Nah not for me, I get that people in our support love a scapegoat but it’s telling that we can’t agree who it should be ! This team dont score enough goals, they sit far too deep for long spells and the chance creation is random and not focused. The issues we have are structural. We will get the odd result from a player on any given day making something happen but this system isn’t set up to deliver. It would take a huge amount of character to drive this mob to any kind of sustained success and for me it’s down to the manager not a player on the park, none of them are playing well enough in their own games to turn round and demand from others and I include Butland in that. There is hope and some talent in the team. I personally like Jefte and as one our younger players I worry we are going to waste the chance he has to develop with pressure and a failed group around him. That goes for Sterling, Dio, Barron, Raskin etc to the same extent, we are destroying anything positive we might have built with this squad. The manger is absolutely clueless and as a professional it must be hellish being hung out to dry on a public stage week in week out while your gaffer spouts utter nonsense. I am not convinced we actually did much better second half, I think United simply say back knowing we couldn’t really hurt them enough to win that game, first half they matched us second half they challenged us to see if we could actually hurt them. That all being said the biggest issue for me currently is the utter nonsense of a board thats in place. The mismanagement from allegedly top business guys has been laughable, the praise and slack they have had is like everything with Rangers OTT. Over the years I know as a support nothing can just be OK, players can’t be alright they have to be brilliant or garbage and the board have benefitted from a bit of this and the legacy of gratitude that the original 3 Bears got for saving the club. This most recent board are a pale imitation of that trio. Bennett, the business genius and his cronies might have just been the latest in a line of poor management but the mad decisions to extend the managers contract and sign off of ridiculous transfers are every bit as damaging as the assassination of Gio and backing of Beale were, we will fell the impact for seasons to come. All about opinions, very much respect the views of Cammy and Andy, enjoyed the discussion but we need to just accept that we are going backwards at pace, nothing about the club is operating the way it should and its not about the odd player its endemic, systemic and any other depressingly downbeat phrase you can throw at it. I personally am done with all the nonsense we are fed from the club, manager and players who ‘understand’ the club, they dont understand it the way I have understood the club for 50 years. Their standards and expectations of Rangers dont match mine. I want a return to Scottish identity and player profile, this league isn’t half as complicated as recent managers have made it. All that being said and while I disagree about what the issues are, we do all just want the same thing a stable, functional Rangers who can challenge season on season, lets hope regardless of what we all think individually the new appointments finally change things for us and set our feet on the right path and there is at least some light at the end what has been a really, really dark tunnel.

Spoon

Kent the myth, huge fee, high wage, all tricks no output and a terrible lack of goals……he should fit right in.

Rona Bluebell

Spot on from both of you. As a committed atheist, if we win the league cup I’ll start believing as it will be one hell of a miracle.

Jamiedfa

Take Kent back, I have heard it all now ,Andy do you not remember his last season?🙄

Greg

Glad I checked out the comments before listening , not interested in more podcasts padded out with dessers chat.

Andy McGowan

Yeah, I remember, and given where we are and the problems I'm banging on about in terms of press and tactical diligence of our front players, I'd take him til the end of the season if the package was right.

KMS

I can't listen to Clement anymore, he is the king of diminishing returns...we had a good ten minutes, we had a good 2nd half, all that pish, Saturday if we didn't have cerny and hagi trying everything they could we would have got nowhere, everything went through them, the rest were passengers

Graham Jones

Before they can make any management changes the will need to seek fresh investment. Until they have the spare cash they will stay with Clement. That’s the stark truth.

CJT

Spot on about the front line Andy. Nothing sticks and the rest of the team know it. Shape constantly torn to shreds by lack of quality up front leading to those charged with getting up to support unsure whether to go or stay because they don’t trust the striker. Nervousness all over the pitch as a result. First job for new man in January is solve that either by bringing someone in or finding a system that fits who we’ve got.

Michael Gray

💯 on our attack . It’s the worst I’ve season in the top flight . I’d take the warburton championship one. And so much of it is because of Dessers, the most limited I’ve ever seen

Hendi

Breath of fresh air having Andy back on and hearing nuance, context and consideration of all sides of a story before forming a measured opinion which isn't rammed down your throat as an unquestionable simplistic fact.

Scott McIntosh

Spot on Andy ........and you both nearly got through a full show without saying " scar tissue " .......nearly.

Nikky Cairney

Disagree regarding the baseline being we should have control with a couple of better attacking players who can win you games. It’s not 1995 anymore. You need patterns of play and movement. And that all comes back to one man. The clown in the dugout.

Nikky Cairney

Andy spot on about the lack of change and trying anything different. Spot on about Jefte not crossing anymore when we know he can. All comes back to the manager. On the corners we are 300+ since our last direct corner goal vs Dumbarton. Grim.

Andy McGowan

Of course you do, but what I'm meaning is that on days (or periods in a season) when things aren't clicking you need that baseline control and let a bit of quality or two win the game for you.

Alastair McGeoch

Quite a calming pod! I think I am at peace now that Clement will get until the CEO has had time to come in, assess the bonfire off the park and sort it out before attention will turn to on the park. It’s up to Clement to use that time to show he’s worth backing (I don’t think he’s shown he is up to now). Basically, this season is about sorting out the off the park stuff, Clement won’t be going for a while. No point losing the rag every week or two at the performance of the team. It’s not good for the health!

Nikky Cairney

I’d agree if it was one of those days and we needed some match winners to bail us out. But this is the norm now. This is every game we rely on that to happen and it’s just not sustainable.

David Kiltie

I wouldn’t go that far, Alan, but I would be totally against re-signing Kent. His final season was dire and as a broad, general rule, it seldom works out well when a player goes back to a former club. Recruiting Beale to replace Gio, apart from anything else, was a backward looking move, hankering for the sweet spot of 55 instead of looking forward. Re-signing Kent would be in a similar vein.

Steve Clark

Andy called it absolutely spot on,agreed with everything he said.

David Kiltie

The failure to get the player-trading model established is a common bugbear of fans. Signing Shankland at his age would fly in the face of this model. On the other hand, signing him in January might be seen by the club as an easy way to appease a disgruntled support. With the player out of contract in the summer Hearts have a decision to make. This time a year ago they could demand a much higher fee due to the extra year on his contract. I imagine they calculated that since 3rd place guaranteed group stage European football this season it was better to hold onto Shankland, unless there was a crazy bid. Hearts’ dilemma this time is different. They could only expect a modest fee, but due to their dire league position they might prefer to hold onto him. Let’s see what happens in January.

Gareth Williams

Just listening. Absolutely agree with everything Andy says so far. Shankland for me is a no brainer in Jan. 2 year deal, £200k to Hearts. Wee Hagi was great on Saturday, totally lifted the way we played passing wise. I hope he gets an extended run. The formation is wrong for our players. Flexible 352/532 all day. Cerny/Bajrami would contribute more if they had a better focal point in 4231. We haven’t got one so change formation. The insistence in not changing it will be the end of PC. He’s lost the support, the players look clueless/disinterested, the lack of goal threat that we’ve all seen for the last YEAR is on him as he hasn’t addressed it. I was all for giving him a chance but I’ve lost it with him! Show him and Dessers the door, limp on with a caretaker until CEO/Chairman start and appoint someone decent. Muscat for me. As for Koppen, this is the Dutch guy who was tasked with player recruitment. He brought Propper in who he must have been fully aware of being Dutch. This surely must set alarm bells ringing!?!? Dutchman scouts Dutch player who ends up a flop!! I’m sick to the back teeth of it. Dragged my 2 kids along to that shitshow on Saturday, when are we as a support ever going to get a break??? Rant over. I felt myself getting more angry the more I typed!🤣

Barry Kerr

Andy is right to an extent about Dessers but at the same time what sort of service is he getting in the box in games? Average of 2 shots at goal in the league tells you he's getting next to nothing from the team. The front line is an issue but so is the middle 2 you don't need Raskin and Barron against a low block even more so when the 2 of them give the ball away constantly. Barron has been a good signing but in a proper Rangers side him and Raskin are nothing more than squad players. We need quality in midfield as well as upfront.

Stace1ofthePeople

Can someone help me understand.. a few podders and fans have said we need a takeover and/or cash injection which Andy mentions. I thought that ffp stopped clubs spending money that was invested so how does that help us i dont get it? Also is Koppen now fully in charge of our spending on recruitment? as the last couple years we are clearly spending money but not buying good enough players. Sure we need money but we need to spend it properly. I suppose this is what fills me with fear. How do we know the next ceo, chairman and manager are going to deliver any different? We've been pish for years now with different people🤢

Graham Miller

Great listen. Andy is spot on about the front 4 and our lack of press. We need a striker that contributes both goals and to the play.

Eric Brownlie

Enjoyed that and agree with Andy Our biggest problem for a few seasons now (apart from awful recruitment) is our inability to create clear cut chances. We will always lose daft goals and yes we need to be better at the back - but we never look like getting 3 or 4 to put teams away.

Spoon

Fair comment but havent we had that for about the last 10 years ? When do we make progress and move past this phase, it can’t be indefinite.

Rose Mcloughlin

Best comment on here..wish we could get you on the board ...we as fans are gripping on to hope of a sign of the club getting better on and off the field..but our hope is fading fast and believe me I am the most optimistic fan normally....but as usual because of we are still Rangers through and through so we carry on.

Alastair McGeoch

Yeah, it seems like we have been in this cycle for years. Fingers crossed the new CEO is the real deal this time, and he ushers in the right people in the right roles and stability off the park, then it will be over to Clement to turn his endless talk about a journey into actual evidence we are on one on the pitch.
