David Campbell

Cheers Colin hopefully this is the darkness before the light.

Stephen Strong

The guy asking about the Tyson fight being shown at the NEH when it was free on Netflix at 5am was surely up there with previous utter pointless questions. 🤔🤣

keith wright

Did the Parks look to be voted back onto the board again?

Allan Fowler

So potentially, the works on the facilities for disabled people in the Broomloan may never happen if timescales can not be guaranteed?

james whyte

800k for 5 players out the door. Brutal.

Michael Gray

Great summary of the AGM, Colin

James McSween

This boards legacy will be our trophy haul being over taken for the 1st time in a century.

Stephen

I am genuinely shocked Koppen got a promotion on the back of that. Another example of why we are not a big club anymore. I don’t trust us to buy or sell anyone in the next transfer window.

Brian Steel

Thanks for the shoutout for my Birthday on Saturday David. wasn't expecting that at all ha ha! No hangovers for me, It's coming up for me being 4 years sober soon. Here's hoping for a good result and performance on Sunday.

Martin Boyd

Well done Colin, these things are always difficult at least there wasn’t any ego maniacs asking daft stuff.

David

This 800k is utterly appalling and needs clearly explained by the board. It's almost Spiv levels of neglect

AndyK70

McCrorie had already been in international squads, Lammers scoring for fun. A year ago Cantwell was worth in the millions. Whoever sanctioned these transfer fees should be removed from the club this afternoon

Stephen

We are the most gullible club in the world. We gave Lammers away to Twente then came back and paid them good money for Propper. They must have had some laugh about that.

Oliver Young

Would Koppen be involved in the selling process? He was head of recruitment. No sure if he’d be in charge of incoming fees.

Oliver Young

We need to continue in reducing the wage bill. Likes of Lawrence (OOC), Dowell and Dessers need to be moved on permanently. We’re just pissing money away with these players.

Moody Marco

Anyone saying they work in civil engineering and saying you don’t start until you have all the materials is either a brand new graduate, very naive, or has been very very very lucky

Colin Mathie

They should be looking for new investment.

Jamie Gourlay

Well done Colin. No attention seeking, just straightforward.

Oliver Young

Cmon, stop with this nonsense. This isn’t your average project. The materials needed to be there before the project started. They had a timeframe of 6 weeks to complete the works which was plenty of time as they showed. The construction itself was well done. If materials were there before the beginning of the works it would have been completed on time.

Alan

How are we now self sustainable when we are posting losses of 17M and investor money is still required to fund these losses?

Neil Fox

Would it be fair to say the fees we got in total were actually higher but due to the wages the players were on, going to "lessers" clubs thetheir wages would drop so we basically had to pay them off - hence we've made £800k

Jim Milne

John Gilligan deserves credit for speaking to the fans as if they're adults and not the way previous AGMs have been handled. It sounds good, I have to have faith in this process.....again... because if I didn't it would make it even harder watching than it currently has been up until the last week while. Hope John Bennett's health is improving. It's clear like other before him he loves Rangers dearly, and obviously the stress took its toll. He's plowed a ton of cash in and we need to remember that as hard as the last year has been. He's a good man IMO, just not a good chairman.

Jim Milne

Happy birthday Brian, and congrats on the 4 years of sobriety. Keep it up mate. 👍

Colin Mathie

Not sure why Clement was there today tbh, cause when the new CEO comes in hopefully his first job is to get rid.

Jim Milne

Forgot to say. Thanks for AGM report Colin. I appreciate you. 👍

David Innes

Also Matondo - beggers belief we apparently turned down interest in him towards end of the summer window

greg sutherland

I thought I'd lost a year...I think we all would like to forget this but it was Beale, not Gio that left in 2023/24 (groundhog day)

Oliver Young

Completely forgot he was at the club. They 4 along with Propper are the ones you’re looking to move on. Tav possibly too, unless we can renegotiate a significant wage cut.

Tamus

Well done today Colin and Davie Sterling work Thank you

Damien Stubbs

I’d of much preferred Clement last night to say less. Ie “It was one game, now let’s get back to work”

Scott Hamilton

I'd consider myself a fairly mild mannered fan, but the phrase Player Trading model makes me want to boot fck out of my phone every time i hear it these days

Stephen

Enjoy your birthday, Brian . Just through 700 days now myself. Best thing I ever did.

Paul Kerr

Player trading model being pushed again when we pulled in £810k from June to transfer window closing. It's like the punchline to a bad joke.

Mr Ritchie

Surely a club the size of Rangers should be able to oversee two building projects at the same time? Just seems rudder and leaderless, we will never get back to being the top team in Scotland till we are run like a successful multi national business rather than a declining golf club.

Brian Steel

Well done Stephen, best way to be mate. Thanks for the birthday wishes mate, it’s very much appreciated 😀

Hamish Rankin

I’ve recently gone into a role at my job where I’m responsible for a business’ finances. I’ve quickly learned working “day and night” means absolutely f*ck all. Work smarter not harder, our board keep claiming how hard they work, rubbish, start making better decisions, some of them are so far from rocket science

Kevin Nicholson

Really good AGM update Colin and David - thank you. As you said, and as echoed in comments below, the 800k combined income for the player departures is astonishing, even by our levels of incompetence and mis-management - couldn't run a bath etc. Shows exactly why operations supported by governance, oversight etc needs serious overhaul and improvement

Hendi

Probably a discussion for a show but: Why should no consideration be given to Rangers becoming a "feeder" club? If we got Man City cast offs and projects and were able to beat Celtic then what is the objection? Presumably it's because becoming an entity who exists to develop a "bigger clubs" players would devalue our relevance and importance? If that's the case, then why would we expect SPFL clubs to have their relevance and importance devalued by having their leagues serving as development opportunities for us and our B teams?

Jim McCutcheon

Thanks David and Colin excellent review on the AGM , very happy with the performance last night hopefully this is the upwards trend going forward 🤞👏

Heart and Hand

I understand your point but I think it’s slightly different in that we’re not asking a smaller club to become a feeder club.

John Davidson

Excellent report Colin. Pleasantly surprised that the AGM was productive for once.

Max Todd

The problem is that the clubs we could be feeding would likely be smaller in fanbase than us. There’s a big difference between ‘wealthy’ clubs and ‘big’ clubs. There are not many in the EPL bigger than Rangers. I hope that we never get into this model, unless as the lead pyramid club.

Hendi

Unfortunately we ain't in the 80s anymore and clubs that rely on fan bases for income can't compete with those who rely on TV money. So being a "big" club barely covers the bills, as the latest accounts show. It's ego driven, clinging to the past and living in a world according to "how things should be" rather than how things are. We need to be open to all possibilities that could help us grow, not be left behind refusing to accept reality. I'm not saying we should become a feeder club tomorrow, but we shouldn't be dismissing anything out or hand either.

Linda Mackay

Are the accounts not up to 30 June 24 David! Some of these players were sold after this date so the fees received would be in next year’s accounts in any event?

Max Todd

I hear you but maybe our focus shouldn’t be the small SPFL goldfish bowl. I’d rather that we aggressively worked on opportunities to escape to a bigger pond than stay there and surrender our future to being a feeder club to a smaller wealthy club. There is no way back from that. I find the whole idea worrying.

Brian Hodgson

6 Underground. Sneaker Pimps. Takes me back 💙

Russell Jones

Outstanding review, Colin. Thanks!

Heart and Hand

A working relationship is absolutely fine. Doubt many fans would have a problem. Being a club who agree to be secondary to another is different.

G Calder

Ross Wilson actually said he was ‘comfortable’ with Kent & Morelos running down the last year of their contract .. How the F did he get away with that ? How was he allowed to get away with that ? 800 k from players is a joke .

G Calder

I can see 3 players that will kick start our PTM Jeffte Bannon Igmane Those 3 will be worth a fair bit if development continues as it is .. We have to sell at the right moment though & accept a player is only worth what teams are prepared to pay for them .

Graham Jones

I don’t see there being any issue with directors not being based here. If we only look inside Scotland then we miss out on the best talent, it’s as simple as that. There isn;t the dynamic level of skills in this country alone, and nit’;s the same for any small populated nation. I just think this was a ready made excuse to knock back any calls for Dave King to return as chairman. Graeme Park was probably behind that policy shift. Just a reminder, King rebuilt the club and team with Gerrard to win a title, which they achieved. The one year they succeeded in player trading was through acquisitions made in King and Gerrard’s time. The downfall came when Scottish based people ran the show for the most part, under the stewardship of the Park’s. I just find it puzzling that there weren’t more pointed questions, but maybe the result last night softened people a lot. For example,£500,000 profit from the NEH was shocking. I shook my head at that one. That should be at least three or four times what it was, considering it was such an expensive outlay. At half a million per annum profit it would take 30 years to recoup the outlay, which could’ve rebuilt the squad in the summer. But, it’s early days for that business, so we’ll reassess that as time moves forward.

Bryden Derek

Good point about Ross Wilson, should have been chased long before he was.

Neil 55

AGM,s aren't as good as they used to be . My first one was back in the 80,s when a certain comedian who used to sing on the park asked why didn't we sign any catholics. The place went into uproar with people telling him to sit down and shut up.

Brian Rae

All of the main culprits responsible for where we currently are have already jumped ship and left. I'm disappointed that no-one pressed them on their plan to take us forward and subsequent timeline from implementation to completion. Maybe they won't know until all of the restructuring has been completed but this must be communicated to fans as soon as they do know. I couldn't believe that we only took in 800k for 5 players in the summer and like many other decisions that have been made over the last few years, it is simply gross negligence and in no other type of business would it be acceptable.

Graeme Price

Exactly, the question about whether we're competitive while heartwarming, didn't say yes we can win the league by next year or not. It was dodged by putting it on the manager who of course gave us the same old platitudes from most press conferences. Then this nonsense about it being the fault of not having people day to day at the club, whole organizations are ran nowadays from people's bedrooms so more misdirection for me.

Revan1872

I think Colin might have gotten the wrong idea on the average age slide. I believe the figures given for average age was for player out and players in last summer rather than the squad itself having an average age of 23

Rose Mcloughlin

A brilliant report..well done Colin I felt as if I was there....thank you...like the sound of the new arrangements of the board...we can only move forward.

Lindsay Bell

I might be confused about the point you were making David (perhaps more general than specific), but Ross Wilson is very old ground at this point and I'm not sure what he has to do with this summer. He signed Cantwell who was still doing well when Wilson left and he didn't fall out with him and then force the club to give him away for pennies. He didn't overpay for Lammers and then sell a player with 19 goals in the last 15 months for buttons. He signed Goldson on a new deal as we all would've, but he didn't chuck him out of the club and bring in a lesser player at the same age for more money in transfer fee if not wages. Wilson largely did what Gerrard wanted - which resulted in Morelos, Barisic, and Kent leaving on frees, Goldson being overplayed and receiving far less for Kamara than they should've. He was then given too much credit and too much power after 55 and Gerrard leaving and hamstrung Gio with his signings before the board let Beale do even worse things on his own hamstringing Clement. The board have gotten it wrong every year since 55 in the transfer department and the jury is very much still out on Koppen if all he can manage is £800k from those 5 players - he was dealt a bad hand but he needs to paly it far better than that.

Heart and Hand

His trading model broke down completely. It isn’t just based on one season, what you do now will have implications in three four summers. Wilson let contracts run down, the side age, few sellable assets. The point was the board can’t say it was only possible to tell that in hindsight as people were telling them in 2022 he was doing a bad job so for them to turn round now and say there was no way of knowing we were going wrong is fanciful. As to him doing what the managers wanted, that’s a bigger issue: his job is to do what the club needs. He did same at Southampton. Inherited a good squad, failed to add to it and left just as the shit hit the fan about his signings failing.
