Disappointed Strider has taken a break. Always good to hear different views (apart from that time he defended Beale after that OF game...👀) and his balance and positivity is needed more than ever just now. But understand it can't be fun to have shit directed at you for expressing your opinion. Draining.

Genuinely, not one podder minds ‘I disagree and here’s why’. It’s the ‘I can’t believe the ridiculous nonsense you fools are saying/you have an agenda/you don’t believe that but you’re part of a conspiracy’ comments that get you down. Obviously social media includes out and out abuse, which is never pleasant. We all accept it’s a part of it when you choose to put your opinion out there though. But when it ever gets too much it’s the right thing for a podder to take a break.

Jim McCutcheon

Thanks guys hopefully you are back to the full poders squad soon another great podcast 👍

Is there an argument to be made, and it would be interesting to hear Steven’s opinion on this, that a lot of the fans would maybe have more patience at the moment, and give the manager more leeway, if he was honest and told us that he is sticking to this system as the players we have suit it, it’s just that the best players for this system aren’t/haven’t been available? We seen last year when we had wingers and Danilo available how good we could be under Clement, injuries put a stop to this. Similarly this year, rather than protecting the players as much as he does, and this is very admirable on his part, but Id be interested to see how the fans would have reacted to Clement if he maybe did mention that we just need to wait, the players that’ll make this work are developing, in Igamane’s case, or are close to being available, Danilo, Hagi and even Cortes etc.

Disappointing to hear Alex affected by negativity generated by some so called fans. Don't let the bastards grind you down Strider! Hope your back soon 🇬🇧

JimGLW

Sadly there hasn't been much at all to be genuienly positive about so quite understandable why Alex is taking some time off.

Stuart Sheils

I have a lot of time for Alex as a podder, I’m usually in the minority of agreeing with him 😂 In all seriousness, all the best big man and hope to hear you back on the network soon ❤️

Steven Harrigan

I agree, there has been a ton of smoke and mirrors with regards to players, and while it can be seen as protecting his players some of it has been so contradicting that fans see through. Add in the fact the terms like project or transitional season only surfaced after we had slipped miles behind and experienced yet another abysmal showing vs them.

Brian Steel

Great Pod again guy's. Don't let them get you down Alex, I hope to hear you back on the pod soon, take care.

David Wylie

The Preview won't be the same without him, all the best and hopefully hear you back soon

Andy Irvine

Sending best wishes to the Big Man and hope, as and when he feels it’s right, he’s back on the Network bringing all his positivity to the Pod ( tbh he is the reason this is my favourite show)

The respectful disagreements are the best part of the community. I have had my view changed or altered many times through hearing others thoughts. I don’t have much time for those who confuse opinion with fact as it’s inherently disrespectful but sadly that’s a huge part of modern life. Didn’t always agree with Alex, don’t agree with a lot of the group think you get in any support but I very much value his honest opinions and would defend his right to hold them the same as peoples right to disagree. Unfortunately anytime you step up or post on a forum you stick yourself In the firing line but there is a an acceptable limit. Where the topic is a football team like ours there will always be passion but it never needs to be bitter or personal, all the best Alex hope you pick a time to come back that suits you and we get to hear you again 👍🏻

Mark

Strider is one of my favourite podders. The network will be poorer without him. What a shame.

BlueJay

Alex is a great podder. Feel shite a guy with such enthusiasm, and love we all have for our club has felt the need to take a break. Hopefully hes is back soon 👍

BlueJay

In terms of the future, i agree with Kev. Letting players leave to middling teans with sell on clauses is the way to go

David Innes

Hope to hear Alex back soon - don’t always agree with him but I always enjoy hearing his perspective. If you feel the need to hurl personal abuse at a fellow Rangers fan for having a different opinion you need to have a seriously hard look at yourself

Gordon McCool

Great pod as usual lads. Hopefully big Strider back soon. May I suggest trying to get 1 (or all) of the Seagulls lads for the Spurs game? Leggo too. A mega pod.

Gents as always a great pod and top discussion. On the youth pathway I think we have to just admit we are a shambles when it comes to our pathway and our ethos. I will give the club credit for some of the young players we have brought in i.e. Barron, Raskin, Jefte even Igmane although I will go back to him as there is a nuance there. Exciting young talent with lots of upside. What is interesting however is that we are happy to buy guys younger than our own talent, play them and give them time to develop. Jefte for example has a far more mature level of physicality, game awareness and the experience of games played vs a 20 year old in our academy its frightening. Young in football now isnt 20 no matter how much we as a support ignore it. Guys like Lowry, King, McAusland etc would have made it by now if they were going to make it. Even Igmane at his age still being babied a bit isnt how proper talent is treated at other clubs. You referenced Sir Alex, a team of very young guys with proper talent drilled, trained and embedded into a system that drew on their raw ability and energy peppered with some real character and experience. We seem terrified to play young guys and ask the question, are you good enough and mentally tough enough or are you moving on. As a club we ooze sentiment and I am convinced if McAusland didn’t come from the background he did and talent with woodwind instruments he would have been written off well before now. The boy is lightweight, inconsistent and severely lacking in game experience and he is the latest in a long line of wide men with limited goal threat. It doesnt matter that he hasn’t played a lot of first team games, others his age have and to get him up to speed now is going to prove very difficult. He’s coming up on 22 and into the start of his prime for football, especially wingers who rely on pace and look at him next to a Jefte, a Raskin or even Barron. Stevie I know you mention that it wasnt just as simple as a system change midweek to bring the best out the team, I respectfully disagree. My reason for this is that even when the subs came on the intent remained and we continued to threaten and score, in fact the sub striker got two good goals from the contuation of direct attacking play that the set up provided. The difference in intent, fluidity and willingness to run from those off the ball made all the difference. I simply wont accept the way others do that its acceptable for any player to not do their own job, make the pass or run because they dont have faith in a team mate so where others have made excuses for the team and pointed the finger at Dessers that wont even wash for me. I know from my whole working life and time in the military doing your own job and being their for the team is paramount, you dont get to point at others when you arent doing your bit. What I saw midweek was runners ahead of the striker, people getting to the byline and coming inside carrying the ball, midfielders dribbling into the box and creating the chaos strikers need. Nobody convinces me that we saw that up until now, except perhaps in Europe, and that if we had been giving that type of service and support to Dessers he wouldn’t have been better. Now whether he would still have been good enough is another matter, but if we are spreading goals around and others are chipping in he doesn’t have to be, thats the point. When Danilo and Igmane went off we still had movement, we were still creating chances. Lets not pretend Danilo hasn’t missed a few, or that everything Igmane tried has come off, I’m not criticising them, I dont expect a striker to have a 100% conversion rate, the difference in the last run of games is they are allowed to miss as the result has been there and we have won, often convincingly. I still would really like to know what’s driven this change ? Have the players gone to Clement and made it clear his tactics dont work and demanded they get to try it their way ? You see a revitalised Tav getting license to go forward again the last few games and he is back among the goals and assists, coincidence ? Clement said at the AGM he just told them the night before to go out and make the AGM easy for him, a throwaway joke no doubt but is there perhaps a bit of truth in it, have the group asked him for more license, more positive selections or a change from sitting and going long ? Delighted to see our fortunes change, let’s hope for the next half dozen gams it continues and the ‘trust the process’ mantra might actually be believable. As it stands however its clear somethings changed, what’s not clear is why and while I respect your view its down to Igmane and Danilo being in the performance when they weren’t in the team and even guys like Dowell were in but the intent remained suggests it not that simple. What is Phil’s plan, does he now just stick with this tweak every game until the rest of the league works out how to stop it like they did with the last system ? Positives, absolutely but for me at least a lot of head scratching as to what his plan is now. Great pod as always, keep giving it to us with no fear of reaction, it’s how it should be and refreshing.

Alan

Shame that Alex has had to take a step back. People need to learn to respect other opinions. Hope he is back soon.

Grant Macarthur

Come back to the pod, Alex! We miss you!
