Rangers today announced:

RANGERS Football Club are delighted to announce the appointment of Fraser Thornton as Chair. He will join the club on 16 December 2024.

Fraser has held many senior leadership and board positions throughout his career, in both private and public companies.

Having worked in the international drinks industry for the last 30 years, he offers a vast range of experience in stakeholder engagement; spanning political, commercial and public interest groups.

He has extensive management experience across sales, brand marketing, strategy development and finance.

Raised in Glasgow, Fraser graduated from the University of Stirling before qualifying as a Chartered Accountant with Price Waterhouse in Glasgow in 1993.

Between 1996 and 2021, Fraser held multiple executive leadership positions in international businesses working across several regions of the world. He was a council member of the Scotch Whisky Association for 15 years until 2021.

Since 2021 Fraser has held several non-executive positions and he is currently Interim Chair of Scottish Golf.

Rangers’ Interim Chairman, John Gilligan, commented: “On behalf of the board, I’m delighted to welcome Fraser to the club as Chair.

“As a lifelong supporter and season ticket holder, he has a deep knowledge of the club which together with a highly successful executive track record and an impressive range of non-executive experience makes him an excellent fit for this role.

“We look forward to welcoming him, and our CEO Patrick Stewart to their new roles, on Monday.

“My time as Interim Chair of our club has been a wonderful and emotional experience. My sincere thanks goes to the board for their trust in me, and for their support during this time.”

Lots experience in reorganisation and restructuring of companies so hopefully influencing things the Varami move. Along with a CEO with experience in football, it feels like a strong team but, as always, proof is in the pudding.

Anything that brings (further) stability to the club is to be welcomed.

Rangers should always have a Thornton around the place.

Graeme Homer

From what I’ve read about him, he’s a solid appointment, with Stewart being a good appointment too, hopefully this is the corner turning structurally and performance within the higher position. Especially with the good news on Thursday that Virani is leaving and other bad appointments have left already. The patience shown by some for the on pitch matters have started to pay off and tomorrow could really seal that momentum. A good set of business in the January window could really blow away the doom and gloom everywhere. C’mon the Rangers!!!

Hamish Rankin

Brilliant, hopefully he’s got a decent strategy for this club going forward

Whits all this 'chair' pish about?

Stuart Crawford

These 2 guys have a monumental task ahead, but thankfully, they are now in place and as a club we can now focus on pushing forward! Wish them every success.

Feels to me like John Gilligan did more in a few months than the previous chairmen managed in years.

Please let this be the start of turning our club around 🙏

John Gilligan has been a solid temporary appointment. A few weeks back I questioned where we were at after he'd been in there 8 weeks. So used to information at our fingertips, it's refreshing that this has been done quietly in the background and we find out when it's announced. Fingers crossed these appointments are the start of a bright future on and off the field.

Big thanks you to John Gilligan for sorting out the two important roles. But his efforts highlight that Graeme Park needs removed from whatever role he holds. His family are investors only, he offers nothing to our club. Two solid and experienced appointments finally start tomorrow, let’s kick it off with a cup win! Mon the Gets!

Talking amongst friends, we all agree there has been an upturn of form and performance on the park with signs we are going in the right direction, The appointments of Patrick and Fraser give further confidence we are finally getting a sense of stability and our house in order. Welcome aboard gentlemen. Understandably we have given the manager some criticism in the last weeks on results and performances , hopefully Phillipe can now concentrate with matters on the park , rather than off. Let’s all now circle the wagons and get fully behind the club we support and love.
