BEGINS

RANGERS FC has contacted the Scottish FA to express serious concerns and ask several questions regarding the swift reinstatement of the two VAR officials involved in the officiating failure during the recent Premier Sports Cup Final. We also note one of the officials has been appointed to an SPFL Premiership match involving the club that benefitted from the error.

The Scottish FA’s actions raise questions about their commitment to improving officiating standards and fostering accountability. While Rangers FC fully respects the independence of officiating appointments and the need for referees to operate without interference, how the Scottish FA handles such high-profile failures directly affects its credibility and public confidence.

The decision to reinstate the officials so quickly, and in particular for a fixture involving the club which benefited from the mistake in question, has drawn widespread media scrutiny on the officiating failure and officials concerned. This was both predictable and avoidable, and contradicts any stated duty of care from the Scottish FA towards their match officials.

Mistakes do happen in football, and how they are addressed matters enormously. We would urge the Scottish FA to demonstrate its desire to improve the quality and consistency of officiating and to do so in a transparent manner. We are not seeking to challenge the authority of the Scottish FA or the integrity or independence of match officials, but to encourage improved standards and accountability. This is not about influence. It is about good governance.

Rangers FC expects tangible steps to be taken and remains committed to holding the Scottish FA accountable in the interests of the game.

Remember on the update yesterday you said "nothing will happen" 😂

Scott Franklin

Finally, a sign that we might actually be about to start standing up to this properly.

Ronald Fraser

Good!! Better !! But still not quite enough… stay on the front foot Rangers…DO NOT LET THIS DROP!!!!

Richard McLuckie

That's a much stronger statement and cuts to the heart of the issue, also keeping pressure on those who make decisions & letting them know we aren't letting this go

Alan Black

Should have been made early last week.

Samuel Campbell

Going forward we will also have to highlight if any errors end up going our way so any complaints can't be written off as sour grapes which is what the Celtic friendly media will try and paint it as

Jamba

The Star Trek guy isnae fucking about 🤣

Anderman86

This is just the tip of the iceberg in my opinion and it began in the mid/late 00s when members of the incumbent govt at the time became involved with them at board level.

Chris Scott

Surprised Connor isn't going to the game in hospitality.

David adams

That’s more like it rangers .

Eddie Cotter

Here, here 👏👏👏💯 a token gesture of a one match ban is not acceptable and further compounded with Connor officiating at them. Muir, nor Connor are fit for purpose. Both are completely inept and not capable of officiating at any level never mind the professional game.

Brian Rae

A smart statement that alludes to FC being compromised but not openly stating it. I'll state it, he's a cheating scummy bastard! No mention of the two clowns at the top of the SFA cartel and their indifferent attitude towards blatant cheating but I expect this isn't the last statement the club will issue. Expect them to double down and then the club should go down the legal route. Every friend in the media (no laughing) should continue to highlight and criticise at every opportunity.

Graeme

We need to keep at it and a bit of help from other teams would be nice but I'm not holding my breath

Neil Buchanan

THAT is how you do a statement. Bravo 👏🏻 MAKE them accountable.

Stewart Robertson

Scottish football left us in a ditch to die. Never forget that.

Douglas Innes

Great statement in a sense it says what we all feel and think if the SFA say we are lieing we show what we have in regards " patterns of assistance " , it also says we are watching games that not only involve Rangers but other clubs

Craig Brown

Tears in my eyes! On the front foot and taking them to task. Let them know that gone are the days that we sit quietly and don't scrutinise their "mistakes"

James Cameron

Feels like our CEO set a trap with the first statement and the SFA have walked into it

Tom

Let's f¥€king go!🔴⚪🔵

Jason Allan

Keep the pressure on “one club benefitting” is the narrative we need to keep pushing. They’ve got their placemen in the top roles and positions, time to bring them down. They’ve ruined our game so they can win or even worst suppress the worst pedophile ring in world sport. Get after them.

Vanb bryceter

Very professional and cuts to the black hearted governance of an incestuous corrupt and completely inept cabal. Please keep this up Rangers we need similar if not more hard hitting before we play the scum again. Keep turning the screw Patrick the dilithium crystals are full to the gunnels .

Peter Hosie

Sorry I can’t give him that credit as the first statement was weak as piss and he’s had no real option but to release this statement due to them being reinstated as basically the sfa were ripping it.

Kirk Guthrie

Growing up in N. America it's just mind-blowing the standard of refereeing in Scotland. Here, regardless of the sport (hockey, American football, baseball) the officiating is always one step ahead of the actual game - at all levels. Refs make the rules and impartially enforce them on and off the field/ice whatever. It's just so fucking obviously crooked in Scotland it's laughable that they take themselves so seriously. Honestly mind-blowing.

Steven L

Hold the fucking bus. Rangers have released a statement with bite. I’ll be damned.

Kyle Fitzpatrick

Even if he did, he couldn't have predicted they'd be so gallus as to appoint Connor to a Celtic game so soon after. Big fan of the statement, I'd imagine SFA feel they can't back down, so either Connor mysteriously gets the flu or he does officiate the game, and we see where Stewart takes it from there.

Heart and Hand

Just a wee note Peter - this is the first statement the club have released. The previous words were a response to a question from a journalist.

Charlie Nicolson

That's good, and the timing is just about perfect.

Andrew Hind

Well done, hoping we wouldn't say any more and it would just go away. Keep up the pressure it's been going on too long

james whyte

Well thats a bit better. Well done new C.E.O 👏

Damien Stubbs

First bit of comms from the club in years that I’ve not felt embarrassed or somewhat let down/left longing. Long may it continue. I don’t think we get something like this if we brought in more chaps already tainted by the Scottish football/media way. It feels like this approach is streets above what the SFA/Scottish media will be used to handling. It’ll be interesting to see if someone takes it on what response that will provoke. Refreshing, for once!

Glyn Davies

Delighted we are taking the fight to them......but just wait & see what shot show the SPFL throw at us on the 2nd......

Glen Kane

Francis Connor will be getting his christmas bonus on the 29th then.

Gordon Millar

Only response that would cover the sheer lack of awareness of these appointments.....it was a pipe down we run the show message from the SFA and we had an open goal......we must keep the pressure up as fans and ex player pundits to support the club taking a stand, at last on this!

JM

All about teeing up the crew for the 2nd…

Craig Watson

Perfect statement from the club.

8luenose1872

The clown getting a scum game straight away just makes the corrupt narrative even worse. Im convinced either they know who is more likely to help the scum or the scum pick what officials they want more often, or both. This is happening far too much for it to be just incompetence like alot of our fans and podders think. When u can predict something like this or what happened in the final then it has to be dodgy!!

William Ross

SFA in a nutshell - when there was no hiding place - in public a no name scolding for them - in private don't worry frankie (and alan) it will all blow over in a couple of weeks and normal service will resume.

Latimer

Connor appointed to one of their games is known as trolling these days.

8luenose1872

Rather than applaud the statement its a gripe about how piss poor the apparent 1st statement was. We as fans need to stop this type of thing and get right behind the club. There is no pressure on us as far as the league goes atm but all on them. Its a long shot atm but look what happened last year( i know we blew it late on but nobody thought a title race was possible after Beale)

Colin Gardner

Well played Rangers. At last a said set of balls has been grown! Reward for blatant cheating= get to run the line of his favourite team! Couldn't make it up.

Piggott

Shots fired about time rangers

Colin Gardner

I'm surprised you're second guessing yourself. Just say it, it's 110% blatant cheating!😬

Rob Shorthouse

Released on Christmas Eve - literally the slowest media day of the year. We are hopeless at this stuff.

David Innes

Playing them at their own game - about bloody time!

John Smith

Rule #️⃣ 1 ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK ! If someone comes at you with a knife you shoot them with a bazooka

John Smith

Rule #️⃣ 2 Admit to nothing that your enemy would not admit to

John Smith

And most importantly rule #3 No matter how dire the situation is, you never ever accept defeat. Victory is the only option

Jim Milne

I'll be honest I didn't expect this. Kudos to the club for not laying down quietly to this. If only we had ex players who are as vocal as Sutton, Hartson, Lennon, etc are for them. I hope anyone giving Collum credit for his VAR video sees now how he deserves zero credit, if he had been on VAR the outcome would have been the same.

Stephen Gale

One thing. David, can you tell the writer of Rangers statements that if they use chat gpt to tell it to not use the word foster. As a teacher who uses it (and catches students using it) every day, foster is by far the most used word by Chat. We all use it, but you don't want folk knowing you have used it. Especially in public releases. I may be judging here and someone may well have written that themselves, but if you see the word foster, it screams ChatGPT. Just a helpful hint for the writer in the future.

Jim Milne

Exactly. How can Collum claim to have any integrity as Head of Referees? It's a part time position being a Referee so let's just say he was making them accountable. What possible retraining, discipline (apart from missing 1 weekend of games), etc actually took place? They obviously were never going to be fired, but why not make them watch games or watch VAR from the room without being involved and then have them be involved in championship games for a while. That's how you show you make them accountable. Not have them be involved in the team they support immediately.

Colin Gardner

Yes but he is under scrutiny now. Any fuck up in his teams favour and the spotlights on him.

Rona Bluebell

Cheating low life scum at play here. Call it out every time from now on.

Douglas Innes

Nothing else happening in Scottish football for the next 2 days ..... I'd say we've filled that void

Douglas Innes

The SFA would do well to say nothing now , replying only keeps it going over a situation where their employees all look inept at best or at worst cheats

John Smith

There’s a brilliant playbook for how to beat these bandits Rona. It’s called The Art of the Deal 😉

Alastair McGeoch

So we gave the SFA and Collum the benefit of the doubt with our first statement and then they do what we all expected them to do, which was to stick two fingers up at as and have Connor running the line at his beloved Parkhead. Shots fired with the “remain committed to holding the SFA accountable” - let’s see what Maxwell responds with.

Dan

Can't let this go so well done to club for calling them out. I hope ex players and perhaps even current ones or manager ask for foreign neutral refs. It's the only way to root them out

BlueJay

Which will allow the message to set in and remain unchallenged for a longer period of time

Duncan

It’s 100% going to be Clancy on the 2nd. Usually him or Beaton and Beaton had the last one.

Martin Boyd

Rather well timed I would say nothing else worth talking about until boxing day. Of course when the match officials were announced would have an effect on when we could release or in fact get a statement ready. Folk just wanting to put the boot for no reason over this.

Duncan

It would be nice if our ex-players like Ferguson called this stuff out instead of dismissing it. If it was the other way round ex Celtic players would be all over it.

Scott Tolmie

The sfa know exactly what they are doing by sending him to a Celtic game, a big fk u to us

Gordon Millar

Nail on the head Jim - Colllum's statements last week were designed show a tough stance with no substance or detail on the next steps to improve standards.........in short it was a media statement and then it was back to business as usual when the dust settled!

Jim Milne

Might have to wait a year, he I'll likely read his statement when he speaks at the Celtic AGM in 2025 where he will say "Penalty to Rangers". Just one more example of how they say what they like and are beyond reproach by the SFA who as usual do SFA.

Neil Fox

I totally get that where possible punishments/disciplinary hearings should be contained in house - if a player fucks up you don't hear about it However, when you (the boss) comes out and slates too officials saying they will be held accountable and the ONLY accountability fans can see is how quick they are back and what games they get, and they're back less than 2 weeks later for the club they favoured questions have to be asked It makes you look fucking more stupid than you already are and sends out a message your either happy with said fuck ups or font care Either way it makes you a massive laughing stock
