Have you listened to the overlap podcast from the other day? It was discussing relationships between fans and clubs/owners and the rise of tourist fans. It’s interesting to hear how fans in the premier league are feeling detached from their own clubs. Does this suggest a change in attitudes towards football in English clubs and possibly greater support for lower league clubs?

I think it’s possible that some families will be (deliberately) priced out and families may decide to take young kids to local smaller teams instead.

My experience of semi-regular attendance at the Etihad is gradually getting worse. For all the tropes around Emptihad, terrible atmosphere, etc, yes it’s never quite reached the echelons of some famous old stadia, however it was always well (if not 100%) filled by loyal and vocal fans. As with all things there are nuances (biggest one for City is that the Etihad is too big for the local fan base), however, the shear numbers of tourist fans attending matches is now astronomical with attendees coming from all over Europe on package deals. City can charge bigger prices for tickets, but almost to a man the tourists walk around the stadium with bulging club shop bags having spent many £100s on kits, training tops, walk out tops, souvenir teddy bears, all sorts. The loyal fan/season ticket holder does not bring that footfall to the shop. And whilst it might seem peanuts in the scheme of things, every penny is counted towards the club’s income and it will amount to an extra couple of million a season. There are now dozens of off-site hospitality packages, principally for tourist fans, with pay bars and a normal matchday ticket. Add to that a stadium extension and onsite hotel coming your way soon! If you ask regular City fans they will tell you that since the Mansour arrived the one thing he got spot on (fan wise) was retaining the club’s local club image, keeping the fans well involved and well on side. However, over the past couple of seasons that close relationship really is not just slipping away but practically disintegrating. Slightly circumstantial for me but I tend to watch my local non-league team these days & I can’t be the only one - the average attendance is 700 in the 7th tier!

Thoughts on Elon potentially buying Liverpool

With the increase in American ownership I think it will get worse. They mentioned for some NFL games average pricing for tickets is something like $700 so can see over next few years individual tickets to hit 3 figures and a decrease in season tickets

Been to city myself and they have it spot on with entertainment and facilities for the family. However I tend to think they are an exception as I don’t get feeling the owner is in it for the money but more of the prestige of being an owner. If you look at Man Utd it’s the opposite and trying to get every penny from the fan base whilst offering garbage on field. What concerns me is part of what makes football unique is the atmosphere and working class culture. Take that away and it’s rugby with a largely middle to upper class crowd offering very little to enhance the atmosphere. In contrast to Rangers I can’t get tickets for me and boys apart from the odd cup game or friendly which don’t tend to let them experience a proper game! I just worry we are in the process of loosing a few generations of future football fans!

And imagine the premium on ticket price when they finally introduce the round of competitive EPL fixtures in the US.

And for me that is the start of the super league! And the top teams start to play when and where they want!

My mate who stayed next door had everyone of them at one time, wish he had kept them, sometimes see folk punting them on eBay back in pre sky and internet days it was a great football fix for us youngster 😁

Far too many Rangers references this week. I listen to this to escape that harsh reality!

Is Mikel Arteta's position as Arsenal manager under threat if he ends up with another trophy less season?
