After another dismal display in midweek its back to Ibrox for Rangers.

The manager remains in place for now but it does seem to be a question of when rather than if.

Join Kev, Stevie and Iain as they provide the preview.

Jeezo, I thought this was an update on the mystery press conference dropping. My heart!

Stewart Robertson

I just want to enjoy my Rangers. Remember when it used to be fun ?

Rona Bluebell

Rumour started last night that Patrick Stewart’s had called a press conference for this morning at 11am. Mark Dingwall (FF) sort of confirmed. Heard nothing since despite 4Lads, David Edgar etc being tagged over and over. Pop over to Follow Follow, there’s a whole mad thread on it.

Posted by the lovely David just now “Hello, in answer to several questions: The meeting was at 11, fan media were invited along with the press. Adam Thornton went for us. News of the meeting and what was said at it is embargoed to 1.30pm today. Sun broke the embargo and will likely have some explaining to the club to do. It wasn’t about the manager. Bar that, there will be a flood of info from it released at 1.30 but if I was you I wouldn’t hold my breath for anything earth-shattering”. So that will be that.

We all have seen this for way too long when does this board stop hiding and come forward and speak too the fan base 🤷‍♂️, the victory against them kicked the can let's face it ,Clement is not the manager we need he has to go ,then the hole set up needs addressed across the entire running of the club including playing staff imo , thanks again guys, we await again

Hendi

Cheers for the shout out 😆 I don't have any problem with anyone who thinks the manager should go. My issue is that it feels that too many are (quite rightly) raging at how the club has been ran since 55 but they're directing that anger in the wrong places. The manager should be doing better against the teams in this league. I'm not disputing that. We should be closer to them. But the criteria used to assess his succes should be objective and consistent (I.e. beating Celtic only becomes meaningless after it comes to fruition when for months prior it was the ultimate test). Too often evidence is selected to fit an agenda by those who are determined to see everything in the worst possible light. Their views would have more credibility if they could bring themselves to acknowledge any positives, even if there aren't a lot. But I don't believe his managerial ability is the cause of even 10% of our current problems. Poch, Potter, Tuchel etc have all been binned at Chelsea, they're not bad managers. They were operating in circumstances where it was almost impossible to succeed. Same goes for Man U, Ten Hag, Amiron, Jose etc aren't all bad managers, there is something wrong structurally and sacking the coach doesn't change that. As Davie says, "madness is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result". That's our approach to running the club - change the manager and expect it all to be different. We will be back here next year if no lessons are learned.

So many people seem to have a blind spot for Barron . He's never near the level we need to be challenging for a title again .

Jordan Murray

Not singling him out but he just seems to escape criticism because he's a worker and had a decent start to the season. He's a poor footballer.

Hendi

And a petty point whilst I'm on consistency/ objectivity. Dio is a "disgrace" but Barron "is a young boy" so gets a pass for being shit. There's only 15 months between them and 168 vs 135 senior games. A different standard is applied to "young" Scottish players constantly.

WILLIAM JACK

This message isn't looking for a fight or anyone to agree with me. It's one person's experience and posted in the spirit of honest feedback to what has always been one of my favourite shows. I haven't downloaded this one as I didn't listen to the last one I did download and only partially listened to the one before that. It's not that I mind criticism of the club, negativity or even ranty-ness. Often it's healthy, necessary and our only outlet. Most of the last fifteen years have had a lot of shit for us to wade through and I've always enjoyed the pod's coverage of these generally challenging times. For me what has changed is the sense of balance and perspective. I have got disillusioned with listening to (among the valid criticisms) many where I find myself thinking 'Aye, but what about X, Y or Z....' or 'But the manager covered that already.' For me, it's become a bit one-sided. I'm not pinning it all on Alex Staff's hiatus but there is just a lack counterpoint or alterative viewpoints, or to be more accurate, balance and full appreciation of some of the facts....the known facts that is. FYI, I like Clement and think he was sold a pup by the board, but recognise he is unlikely to get beyond the end of the season as things stand, so I'm not dogmatic. Anyway, I'm sure your numbers are good and my take is an outlier but I thought feedback might be useful as to one LT listener's take. And the Preview is still genuinely miles better than anything Radio Scotland or Clyde put out, so it's all relative.

CB

Came on to say this. Don’t know why we treat Scottish players as if they are kids yet foreigners get harder time. Same with Jefte. 21 year old from Brazil!

JimGLW

Wage bill was reduced as a bunch of players who weren't good enough left. Hardly some success of Clement's. Very demeaning for him to claim it like some piece of silverware. Especially when we has questionably spent about £17million in a year in charge.

Kev Armstrong

I will extend an invite to anyone that wishes to come on and extend a different POV. We love different perspectives.

WILLIAM JACK

Thanks for taking it in the intended spirit, and like I say I may be an outlier. I'm sure you have better qualified Patrons to come on, and tbh my next couple of weeks look like hell on toast but if you're stuck for anyone and still looking by the end of the month I'm 'happy' (ie most likely bricking it but prepared) to stick my head above the parapet. Not that I'd be arguing all in the garden is rosy by any means. All the best, Billy.

Gordon Smith

Still going to take my son to Fraserborough for his first game at Ibrox. Surely even the big diddy can't ruin that day.

Hendi

It's the same with the outrage at Leon King not getting a game, if not for his nationality, nobody would give a toss. And we will see that with Nsiela, nobody will make excuses for him, but will bend over backwards to defend and advocate for King, Rice etc.

David Innes

He could improve but right now as far as I can see all he can do is run about a lot and play easy passes when he’s not under any pressure

Steven Harrigan

I appreciate the feedback, but would just ask you take the time to listen, and by no means have to agree with any of our views, but I do think we have tried to provide footballing reasons why, as opposed to just screaming into the void. Any negativity is just the reality and the price of being in position we sadly find ourselves in.

chris smith

Patrick Stewart has just pissed all over this pod with that press announcement

WILLIAM JACK

Stevie, thanks for taking the time to respond. Believe me, I have always listened to the pods pretty much start to finish and am used to them having to cover some pretty dire periods in the club's recent history. Criticism and negativity is healthy when things aren't going well at a club like Rangers. A lot of the time it's necessary and cathartic. I just hear a lot of arguments and criticisms that - while they undoubtedly do have merit - are either one-sided or unfinished. Similarly, if there is context it is either not given or is mentioned as a throwaway. Kev was giving it tight about the signing of Igamane a couple of months back even though we all knew he wasn't oven ready and the hope was to get him built up and prepped for the first team. Similarly, on the Preview - and to be fair other pods - I hear criticism of the fact we seem to have a team for Europe but not the League. Well it's chicken and egg...we don't have the money to build two teams, and to build a team that wins the league, you need the revenue streams that only European group stage football provides. Building a team to win in Scotland may or may not succeed at home and could well struggle in Europe. If it does we'll have even less money to build a successful team for domestic campaigns. I don't hear these fairly obvious corollaries mentioned...and again that's not just on the Preview. I'm sure I'm in the minority but I'm just giving honest feedback. Like, I said, I don't want to pick a fight with a H&H legend like yourself (my favourite story being the time you turned up as a Scottish/FIFA delegate overseas) - but I do miss the balance the Staff-meister used to provide...just a personal take. All the best.

CJT

Thanks for calling out the fact that’s staring us all in the face. We’re a good team where the opposition forces it/has the majority of possession. When we have to force it, it’s very hit and miss. It answers the question about Europe or one-off games vs domestic. It tells us why when Hibs pressed us high-up we dominated but when they let us have the ball until the last third they got back in it and why Dundee had less than 30% possession but the best chances and were the team who could think themselves unlucky at 90 mins. Since Gerrard that’s been the issue (not counting Beale because he wasn’t a real manager just a snake-oil salesman). Really need someone who understands our game and how to set up to deliver success domestically . That means winning leagues to get income from CL and crowds. That shower across the City realised it years ago. You make real money that influences your FFP related spend from winning domestic league. We’re living in a European reputation world that gets you fuck all in terms of real money that’ll let you progress. PS made a lot of sense from a business perspective today. If he follows that through it means winning domestically. He needs to build for that. Will he? I desperately hope so.

Spotify Turkey

I am once again asking for the time stamps for previous game and next game to be provided

Jamie Gourlay

Steven 100% bang on with every word. There is no progress at all. It's baffling how some fans want to keep PC.

David Fleming

Some great points raised. I’ve said for a long time we’re the worst coached team in the SPL. We have no style, structure or substance. You can see what other teams are trying to do. We have nothing.

JimGLW

His squad management and 'sport science ' is absolutely arse over elbow, like everything else he does.

Allan Waltham

Stevie saying he's lost for words.....lol

David Kiltie

It was still an important step to reduce the wage bill, regardless of the many criticisms of Clement as manager.

JimGLW

It's not a success or anything he done to achieve it is the point. Was renewing Jack, Roofe, Lundstram, Borna etc ever on the table for instance

Bob MacCallum

He was our best player every game until the dud of a manager abruptly dropped him for no obvious reason in any game. Hardly seen since while empty shirts like Bajrami play every game. If we had a team full of Bajramis and Hagis, we'd get relegated. If we had another 4 Barrons spread throughout the team we'd have won those away games, bar the Celtic one. Too many of our guys are mentally and/or physically weak. Barron is neither. He always moves into space, looking for a pass, haz a decent touch then moves the ball on, usually forward with passes that can be short or longer. He has energy, determination and decent pace. He isn't going to score goals but that's not what he should be in the team for. I think he'd make a better right-back than any of our guys who've played there this season. Unfortunately, dud Phil can't think outside the box and prefers the awful Ridvan there, a player who can't defend on the left anyway.

Jamiedinho

Harrigan calling Diomande a disgrace yet "young" Barron gets a free pass. There is only a year between them!

Chris Graham 🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Myself and mr harrigan are aligned in opinions He’s absolutely fucking spot on The club needs to listen to some of us Guys not in top level football that know better A sad reality of the governance of our club nowdays

Derek MacMillan

Sack the manager, we finish 2nd. Keep the manager we finish 2nd It's a pisser but if im the CEO, Im going to sound out some people before sacking someone with no replacement. If it's sack Clement and have Rae as the temporary manager, id rather keep Clement.

WILLIAM JACK

I listened to the pod btw. Same observations still apply. There is a lot of valid criticism, but imo it's undermined by some of the one-sided and hyperbolic statements. 'Beating Celtic was a fluke.' Nope, we took three of them the game before (also a fluke?) and tightened up the midfield and defence for the game at Ibrox. 'Celebrating losing a cup.' Straw man argument. Haven't heard anyone celebrating losing the cup. Took 'a long shot from Hagi' to set us on our way against CFC. Nope, the midfield was set up to spring a certain way and Raskin (a player we is now beginning to fulfil his potential under Clement) wins the ball in this chosen system, runs forward and sets up Hagi. 'Throwing shit at the walls and seeing what sticks' Yup, that's how a manager who gets wins in Spain, France and Sweden and has won leagues with other teams sets up, no doubt. Reference made to player minutes given with no thought to the other factors that go into these decisions. I'm sorry, maybe this kind of stuff drives 'engagement' but the thing I've always liked about the Preview is that it has been a more thoughtful pod in the past. Again, I'm sure I'm howling at the moon here, but you suggested listening the pod. I did and the examples above are just a few off the top of my head.

Steven Harrigan

One was bought with big money and expectations. One is established and should be helping those around him.

Kev Armstrong

My comments about Igamane signing I stand by. We clearly needed another striker. It’s now been confirmed he was injured when he arrived. We already had Danilo injured so it meant going into the CL with one striker.

Jamiedfa

My favourite show, everyone is spot on!

WILLIAM JACK

So you stand by comments about not signing a project player even though within 6 months he is rattling goals and being talked about as a potential £15-£20mn target in the summer? Okaaay....I seem to recall some complaints about the player trading model not working but I guess we'll fix that by sticking a Nathan Paterson mask on Robbie Fraser and asking for £10mn. Job done. You originally suggested we could have spent the £1.5mn for Igamane better elsewhere. We could have spent it elsewhere but it's unlikely we'd have got a player for that who has made the developmental strides and value hike that Igamane has. Equally £1.5mn is unlikely to get you an oven-ready front player who is going to to shift the dial for us. Clement and Koppen deserve credit for identifying Iggy and the getting him up to speed in a relatively short space of time. Also, any knowledge about whether he was injured or not was irrelevant as that wasn't the basis of your original comments on Igamane. And he was announced as needing to get up to speed before being bled in - so was explicitly never expected to be a contender in CL qualifying. I will agree with your original counterpoint that Igamane is not the only striker in world football we could have bought. You got me there. FYI, I'm going to be offline this week so if you respond and I don't answer I haven't gone off in a huff, honest. ;-)

WILLIAM JACK

Not sure which 'it' you're referring as there are quite a few points above, but obviously I'll have a listen...daggnabit you made me download another pod! ;-)
