Hoggy is back with Tess this week..... and after saying last week "nothing less than two wins over Hibs and Dundee are acceptable". Here we are, 7 days later, further behind Celtic than before we humped them!

The knives are out, the away support has turned...... so Hoggy and Tess take your views on the current climate, with a little wee look back in history!

Enjoy

Do you know when the CEO statement is coming or was it more gaffer talking pish

I can only listen to this on patreon. Not my usual podcast addict

Jonny Burnside

Nice to hear from Tess, always speaks sense.

The argument of "the Scottish players aren't good enough" point made by Tess doesn't hold up when we've spent millions on foreigners who are absolutely dross. And, as Tess pointed out, we've missed out on players like Max Johnston. We've had nobody with knowledge or experience with Scottish football in the management team or recruitment for years. (Michael Beale was actually rather dismissive of the quality of Scottish based players whilst signing pish like Dessers, Lammers and Danilo.) I'm giving my season ticket up at the end of the season. I've had enough of spending hundreds every year on this football club to see it run like a second rate bowling club. I only kept it on this season because I feared once I gave it up I'd completely lose interest, but that's happened anyway.

Your photographic memory for Rangers is failing you mate! Vanoli og was a terrible 2-0 loss to Dunfermline not the 3-2. Good pod as ever fellas.

I think you're mixing up games re 1987 Hoggy. The game v Clydebank on the 10th January was re-arranged at late notice (possibly late the day before or early the Saturday morning?) after our game at Dundee (I think that was who we were to play) was snowed off. Considering the lateness of the arrangement a crowd of 36,000 was incredible. But it was the following week, on the 17th, when we played Hamilton Accies, that the lockout happened. We could go top of the league for the first time in 8 years at that stage of the season and a massive crowd turned up on a freezing day. 43,000 got in and an estimated 5,000 were turned away - against the team bottom of the league! I did get in but that was the day I decided I'd need to get a season ticket and got one the following season. Great pod again, and so good to hear Tess for the first time in ages. Very therapeutic as you say, but what a mess this club is in AGAIN.

Who do you not count as a rangers manager Hoggy? Couldn't make out what Tess said, I rewound a few times as well

Steve Watson

Always like to hear from Tess

It's time the fans did something or this continues. The board and manager would like to condition us to think this is acceptable! 2nd is good enough for the board and manager

It also contributes to their being zero connection with the team. Cerny for example holds zero interest for me as he is a ‘library book’ we have borrowed, briefly interesting but ultimately I don’t care about him as he isn’t mine. Filling a team with loans isn’t an answer especially when the loans we do bring in have been consistently fleeting in terms of fitness, quality or worse abject failures. As a club we seem to love over priced average players who come in play a few games then get injured and we immediately want to sign them. A Scottish manager, Scottish core of players and a more domestic focused outlook is essential. This bag of revels that we get from these foreign project managers has becoming soul destroying.

The problem we have is that the club aren’t using the resources they have in terms of coaching and facilities to improve domestic players from a level to effective pros. We seem to want to bring in cookie cutter players who fit a slot but have no interest in coaching them or developing the areas of their game they have deficiency. Coaching and development was a key part of the Smith or McLeish eras. Taking a prospect from Hearts and making them a key part of a successful team was our hallmark. Scooping a wee guy from Dundee and making him our 9 was what we were all about. We seem to use the excuse we can’t just buy better than others, why aren’t we using our club to make players better as financially we can’t just buy success. This squad has more upside than any in recent years. It’s had investment, the age and profile of player is better it’s just being ruined by this manager. I don’t buy the constant focus on Dessers who spent the majority of this season up front alone with zero service. I’m not blind to his faults but in recent games even Igamane has had large spells where our focus on a solo striker has left him isolated when in a pair he had looked unstoppable. That’s not a criticism of Igamane who has been outstanding but he was clearly far more effective with a partner and we have relied on raw ability more in recent games. Clements highlight, let’s have it right. Is a few euro draws and a ‘moral’ draw in the cup final which he then lost. Seriously ? Is that what people are putting forward as mitigation for a guy who has relied on his players digging him out as he is clueless about first 11, tactics, substitutes or man management. This guy is a carbon copy of Beale without he barrow boy patter. Deluded and clueless. Time to return to a focus on domestic business and drop all the other modern football nonsense, player trading models, transitional seasons, rebuilds, tactical philosophy….bin the crap and stop the excuses.

Hamilton on 17th Jan was the rearranged game. We were due to originally play Hamilton on Skol Cup Final weekend.

My apologies hoggy Ross county have 10 points since Boxing Day not 12 I mistakenly thought they had beaten hearts but drew 2-2 still to have ten points compared to our 3 is shocking , permission for tess to call me a bellend 😃

Greig Ward

Great pod as always hoggy and it was interesting to see one of the listeners predictions as to what the statement from Stewart would probably be turned out in the main to be spot on.

Darren james paxton

Good pod miles out way Durrant game a think I was at east end park that day think we were 3 down at ht Vanoli surely away by 07 …may be wrong

Glyn Davies

Does anyone else feel we have an almost snob like attitude towards signing from other Scottish teams? Or is perhaps an attitude of "fuck them" for what happened in 2012 & therefor not willing to give them any proper money for decent players? & therefor we only go for players when they are out of contract tract & have to spend minimal amounts ala Barron & Jack in recent years? Regardless it is definitely not good enough! Walter would always go for players from other teams & there are plenty to choose from......

Graeme McLeod

There's also a double standard in that with foreign signings we're told that it's about the potential and we can't expect the finished article, yet that attitude isn't extended to Scottish players.

David Kiltie

Vanoli’s own goal was December 2003, the post Treble horror show of a season. Martin O’Neill’s hammer throwers ran away with the title that season. I could not have foreseen Helicopter Sunday during those dark days.

David Kiltie

Interesting reminiscence about the early 80s. Tess said Scottish football was much stronger then. You didn’t have the current Old Firm v “jobber” teams polarization. The percentage of points which won the title in those days when the title was relatively wide open would not be enough to win the title now, in most cases only enough for a distant second. When the Sheep won their first title at the start of their golden spell they only won 19 of 36 matches. When the filth pipped Hearts in 1986 both sides only won 20. It really was a different era.
