Adriana here!  Happy new year to you all (can we still say that?)!  Well, it took a bit longer than I’d hoped but I’m delighted to bring you the next installment of R is for Rangers.  This episode, I am joined by Cammy for a canter through almost 150 years of Rangers history.  F was a deep well to draw from, with players, matches and more, so I hope you enjoy it!

Here are a couple of links we referred to:

I’ll be back soon with another Heart & Hand regular to cover the letter G.  As always, pop your suggestions in the comments.

Enjoy the show!

You’re a very natural presenter, Adriana. I’m from Garelochhead, it’s where Faslane/Clyde Submarine Base is

Adriana Spina

Aw thanks so much, that’s really kind! I was up round Loch Lomond way yesterday and passed the sign for Garelochhead - we were debating whether that’s the same as Gareloch, just after the chat on the pod!

That was a great listen. I do think Cammy was a touch unfair on Derek Ferguson, who at 19 was man of the match in an Old Firm cup final under Souness. Many of us still think he had every bit as much talent as his contemporary Ian Durrant and his wee brother Barry. He didn't get eased out by Souness because of ability, it was all down to attitude. A real wasted talent. So many memories in that pod for me, and so many great topics! Will put a separate comment for G, as there are loads of possibles.

David Herd

I think G needs 2 pods, or you'll need to miss out so many worthy ones. From long ago, George Gillespie who played in our 1st cup final outfield and our next one in goal. George Goudie, the man who saved the club from going bust. Neilly Gibson, described as the best player in the world. Dougie Gray, the longest serving Rangers player ever. Torry Gillick, the only man signed twice by Struth. Then the ones everyone will expect... Greig, Gough and Goram. You can't do G without them. The last is Gerrard, but Cammy maybe covered him enough there at the end. Non players could be things like Glasgow Cup, or Govan. Talk about spoiled for choice!

Was waiting for this ! What another outstanding episode 👏 Looking forward to hopefully hearing you talk about Dougie Gray next episode. Him and my great grandad Joe Burns were best pals.

Funnily enough Garelochhead is the village that’s at the head of the Gareloch! There’s also a Gairloch, further up north somewhere
