Despite playing in a European Final and amassing over 100 games for the club, Norrie Martin might well be considered one of the unluckiest players to represent us.

When I was a wee boy living in Troon my Mum was a member of a slimming club at the Towans Hotel in Prestwick which was owned by Norrie and Inge Martin. Mum became great friends with Inge and ended up helping at the slimming club. To boost membership Inge decided to do a leaflet to put through the doors in the Troon area. Mum roped me and my younger brother in to deliver said leaflets for a few pounds which was decent in those days. Me and my brother were football daft and soon realised that delivering all these leaflets would take too long so we went to a local pond with a big grassy area where we used to play football which we nicknamed the gypsy pond and dumped said leaflets. Inge and Mum couldn’t understand why membership numbers hadn’t been boosted but me and my brother knew just fine. We came clean only a couple of years ago at our family Xmas dinner.

This is a great series, many thanks. Dortmund away was certainly Norrie's finest hour (and a half) and our achievement in putting Dortmund out was huge, especially given the Watson leg break and the fact that the Germans' goal at Ibrox should never have stood! The Gemmell penalty save was in the League cup game at Parkhead which preceded the 4-2 match. I had long forgotten that I saw Norrie's last match when Marinello turned it on

Sorry to disgree with you, David, but I started going to Ibrox in 1960 so saw Martin etc and McCloy was a far better keeper. He was unlucky though - right place, wrong time.
