Rangers 0-1 Queen’s Park Postmatch Reaction 9 Feb 2025

Rangers are humiliated by Queen’s Park in a match which signals the death knell for Philippe Clement’s Ibrox reign.

Comments

Mark Rennie

Time to get on the phone to gerrard

Jamie Tough

Unfortunately so, season over. Can't keep going like this !

David Campbell

Just watched the press conference. Well done for keeping your composure David I'd have lost the plot. Absolutely sickening. Contemplating life decisions right now.

Craig Armstrong

Everything that David says here is bang on. There is no way back for Clement now and I'm sure the board are aware that he can't go on. I can't imagine there are many Who'd support him now

Rona Bluebell

Another depressing day. Have ran out of saliva to lick any wounds. It needs to end tonight.

Angus Mackay

That was horrific , the team were woeful - Phil needs to go tonight

Derek Allison

How realistic is it to expect him to be sacked? Are the board competent enough to make the decision?

Rona Bluebell

Nah. He finished, what was it - 18th, with pots of money in a meaningless league. Plus the ‘do I look happy’ still leaves a bitter taste. He bolted.

Jamba

Just when you think this season canny get any worse they pull that out the bag. Utterly fucking humiliating and it’s us that as per usual have to bear the brunt of it. He needs to go right now!!

Craig Guthrie

A new manager sooner rather than later at least lets us hit the ground running in pre season. Can cast his eye over the dross we have and move things along quicker in pre season rather than waiting until then. Either way I agree he has to now go David

Vanb bryceter

Well I've been up and down with pc all season. I'm in the abyss now. Patrick Stewart should set his phaser to get to fuck Phillipe mode. That is the singularly worst result I've witnessed in the last 40 something years. God help us all fkn scunered

IAN OGILVY

David, sounds if someone was being hung, drawn and quartered in the background. Hopefully it was that clown of a manager!

Steffen McAndrew

Was the "Psycho" music in thr background deliberate?!

Scott Corral

He carries the can but not a single player got pass marks. Everyone of them and the manager should hang their heads in shame. Why pay for a renewal with the same players at the club?

David P

I don't recognise this club anymore 😕

Ross Monro

Called it on around the hour mark that they would nick it. You could just tell the way the game was going. Any team that sets up against us organised and to defend stands a chance as we just lack the quality to get through a defence. He HAS to go after this.

James Mcgill

He needs to go. But they won't sack him

Roderick Boyle

David , Jurgen Klopp couldn't get this group of players to be successful , too many of them aren't of a high enough quality nor do they have the mental attitude to win . As a player (s) , if you can't beat a low block as is the case all too often then you are not good enough it's really that simple , as for young Bailey Rice today he had an opportunity to show he has it to become a first team player but all I saw was a sad comparison to a great Rangers Captain in Barry Ferguson in his decline , sideway and back passes .

Charles McIntyre

He’s “not low” he said after that result. You couldn’t mark his neck with a blowtorch. He spent the whole conference taking absolutely no responsibility for that result. His time is up…end this now.

Billy Forrester

The usual mass hysteria of shouting for managers head, only last week we were praising him for qualifying 8th in Europa league. 🤦‍♂️ Tell me this, who else changes this whilst managing with 1 hand behind back, trimming a wage bill and implementing a player trading model, lowering age of squad etc. we may well get a new manager but god help him as when he drops points the shouts will be get him to fuck. We cannot keep doing this and I fear we as fans don’t help as first sign of trouble it’s get him to fuck. I for one will stick with Clement and give him time to see it through, times are hard but sun will shine if we remain calm and patient and stop this endless persistent calling for managers heads.

Ross Monro

Mate we are 13 points behind celtic in February. Lost the league cup final and just got put out the Scottish cup to mid table championship ship queens park. How can you defend that? Just because wev sacked so many managers over the last couple years doesn't mean we have to stick with this one. It's humiliating and he needs to go now.

Nicholas Dickson

I hate being a bin fire , and right now cans see how we fix it .

Dave Finnie

David - you highlight a key point for me that cannot be seen as progress. You said that clement implied things can improve if we get better results. Results from now mean Jack shit. The pressure is off now, so no results from this point can repair the damage in the the league cup, the league, or the Scottish cup. Europe is a distraction, a bonus, and even winning it does not eradicate the fact we’ve gone from several honours ahead of them to several behind under him. Results now - mean F*** all he needs to walk tonight : tomorrow or be sacked tonight / tomorrow. Anything less is beyond taking our support for fools. Either he is or the board is. This has to end - Tonight.

Bryan Watson

He's a clown. Players were a fucking joke today btw, thought they could just show up and win. However, why were they allowed down to London for a jolly during the week? Total complacency. What has proper rattled me is the arrogance of the manager, he knows he is untouchable and if he is untouchable, what incentive is there to have high standards? He doesn't get it and the players don't get it. Board are paralysed with fear of making the wrong choice (AGAIN!!!) so they are going to stick with him. We don't resemble anything close to what Rangers is supposed to be. Deserved fuck all, full credit to Queens Park, worthy winners today and wish them well in the cup moving forward.

Tamus

Get Tav to fuck too Worst captain since Edward Smith

Rose Mcloughlin

The honest truth is he doesnt understand Scottish football and neither do the players he is buying...queens park played with passion we only do that in Europe...The biggest part of our season is league and cup games and I am worn down watching them play...even when we had a 3 goal lead and had watched a good display by them and esp after the euro result but Ibrox half emptied at half time because they knew the game was over and we were all frozen..I stayed as I always do but I agreed with the substitues brought on but they dont play well when they get their chance..outside of our young players...we have no heart watching normal bread and butter games and they have no heart playing them....something has to change.

Heart and Hand

Also it’s so easy to say ‘good results’. Good results in isolation mean nothing. We need consistent results.

Tom Davison

Huge disappointment, for sure. A disaster? Hope you are spared one, David.

Tamus

If your happy and you know it clap your hands If your happy and you know it clap your hands

Heart and Hand

Billy, we just lost at home to Queen’s Park. It’s not mass hysteria, it’s a perfectly rational response. If you’re seeing enough from him when we’ve been poor in the league for a year it’s because you want it to be true. The reality is different. He will never bring domestic success to Rangers.

Heart and Hand

I lost my temper a bit at ‘they were behind me 3 hours ago’. Yes, but then you lost to Queen’s Park. I don’t think he gets it.

KMc

What exactly have you seen enough of to give you confidence he’ll lead us to success?

Brian

Rangers can't sack pc because we don't have 7 million to pay him off so we are stuck with him end of story

Graham Sinclair Walker

Horrendous as today was the Scottish cup is a sideshow. Nobody outside Scotland cares about it. The EL has to be our focus. It's only through progressing in Europe that we earn decent money, attract players and put our own players in the shop window. We have shown we can cut it in Europe at least at EL level. We simply can't afford this torrent of negativity and turmoil. The road back at the present moment is through European achievement and we have to now focus on it.

Billy Forrester

I respect ur opinion but he has been given no tools and also been dealt a huge shit sandwich, he has had no backing and been hugely unfortunate by injuries too, all whilst lowering wage bill, rightly so, and lowering age of squad so we have something that resembles a player trading model which in a year or so will generate millions through Jefte and Igamane

Graeme McLeod

Who is "we"? Plenty of fans still wanted him gone. Europe is a free hit for the manager and players. They aren't expected to win European trophies, and were seen as underdogs given the fixtures they had. Frankly anyone who thinks Clement has shown he's the man for the job based on European results over 12 months of disastrous domestic results is just willfully ignorant at this point. He's never going to get it.

Fraser86

Hi Billy, he is the ten hag to our rangers, he is the shite to our shoe, he is the Walter mitty of the world, he could be here for years and it will be the same, he needs moved on in the summer, done a good job under testing circumstances, brought the wage bill down, brought in assets, fielded youth, thank you it's time for someone else to carry the baton

8luenose1872

The only time we look good is when we are counter attacking and to have a team playing like that when u have 80% possession every week domestically is utterly baffling. He is clueless and we all knew it well before now. For those players to go out and do this type of thing yet again just makes u want them all to get to fk, how many times are they gonna fall into the same trap ffs. Captain is useless as a captain. How the fk hes lasted this long as our captain i will never know

Billy Forrester

Tam have a day off, certainly no happy clapper as u put it however I try to see things with perspective. Do not call me a happy clapper pal from ur uber staunch throne, I’ve sat through bad times with Ibrox half empty, lived the great 9iar times and now this. I see things my way as u do yours so shove yer happy clapper shite up yer arse mate 👍

Fraser86

Real shame. I know alot of bears that Just don't identify with this team or group. Real shame

8luenose1872

These are the happy clappers that are part of the problem why hes still in a job.

Iain Campbell

We cannot afford to have Clement as the manager, if he cannot crack the domestic game. The domestic title is always our number one priority

David

Diamonde 4million, bajrami 3.5m, propper 1.5m, igamane 2m that not enough tools to beat queens park? Or any other of the dross we have dropped points against with a fraction of the budget

Billy Forrester

So who gives us that with the restraints placed upon them and the fan base who cannot accept a draw never mind a defeat. Who do we get and say to them here you go, u have no money, need to lower wage bill and also get us a player trading model and also don’t lose a game as fans will shout for u to get to fuck🤷‍♂️

Iain Mitchell

Not seeing much chat about the subs today, which for my money were absolutely baffling. Guy next to me summed it up - “I’m dumbfounded”

Billy Forrester

Is that not then on the players, surely they have enough about them to beat Queens Park, they had enough to qualify last 8 in Europa. Can’t have it both ways, not all on manager, that team was enough to beat QP today

Glenn Butler

As sad as it sounds, season tickets will be sold regardless of who is in charge. They just will.

Rona Bluebell

Billy, I get that many of us (I hold my hands up to being one) keep going back and forth and this season has tested most of us, but you can’t get beat by Queens Park at home like that. You just can’t. It isn’t acceptable. There has to be a line somewhere.

John Smith

Well the false dawn at least lasted a bit longer this time

Scott Hamilton

He's been at the club close to 18 months now, if these aren't his players by now whose are they? Would be an interesting stat to see how many players he's worked with or started since starting, because the only consistency is inconsistency in performances

Billy Forrester

I have been on and off the fence however I have seen a change in the team both league and Europe and think he deserves a chance to implement things. I have changed my viewpoint as I like to give time under difficult circumstances. I get it’s not easy but for me when I think about it, who do we get to hand the keys to the kingdom and say here u go, these are the restraints on u but by the way u must win, it’s a mission impossible. Look fuck knows but we cannot keep sacking managers at cost when we have no funds already. It’s a shit show

Linda Mackay

No light at the end of the tunnel here. I’ve experienced some great times with Rangers being successful but there’s a generation now that have only seen 3 trophies in 14 years. I hate to even think it but I fear we may never get back to being a club that can even challenge in Scotland never mind dominate. Truly awful situation.

Hugh Gourley

The Board created this absolute mess I have sympathy for Clement but nothing is improving

Stewart Robertson

The worst part is, when they scored, I KNEW we weren’t coming back - and I think I’m not alone. This isn’t hurting as much as it should because we’re punch drunk.

Heart and Hand

If he loses to Queen’s Park and can’t win away from home against sides with a 10th of the budget, they’d be right to.

Craig

Just landed in Dubai to this news. Shocker 🤮

David Bold

He said it wasn't down to tactics. He decided to go back to playing one striker at home against a lower league team, when there is plenty evidence to suggest that it does not work. How is that not tactical? Was he resting Dessers ahead of the friendly at Tynecastle next week? Bajrami was once again awful. What a dreadful waste of money. Jefte surely won a competition to play for us. Defensively weaker than Tav at defending the back post and never finds a man when attacking.

Heart and Hand

If it’s just about the players and nothing to do with the manager we’re wasting 2m a year on one then! ‘We can’t keep sacking managers’ isn’t a good enough reason to keep one who won’t bring success. Does it guarantee success with a new guy? No, of course not. But we have to try.

Billy Forrester

Get that but the next guy under sane circumstances will be set up to fail too, do we keep trying again and paying off management teams or do we try the model of let them build it, clement hasnt really been given a fair chance yet with tools at his disposal in my opinion, he is paying the price of previous failures so we need to stop this cycle or we will be here every year . We are not exactly patient as a fanbase

Stephen Grant

See In the last minute of a cup game you are losing 0-1 , laces is the only acceptable penalty , no hip skip and a jump

Alan Baxter

Yeah its at the point i just went “oh well” and put a different game on at the end. Gutted but i used to get raging and falling out with family, the caring about it ended a few years ago though i think after too many disappointments

Mark Freeburn

If he’s not gone by tomorrow it’s a glaring reflection of what we have become. An absolute rudderless ship from the top down with the inability to make a strong decision. This isn’t going anywhere if we don’t have the money to replace the majority of the squad then the only thing we can do is replace the manager, failing to do that is just embarrassing the support and the hard earned money that gets ploughed into the club week in week out… not just the hospitality section.

Billy Paterson

Players played a huge part in that result today. Misplaced passes all day. No urgency or attacking dynamism. Really poor. Agree with all David has said except the penalty award. It was a stonewaller.

Ewan White

Surely we don't need to pay his contract up in full. I'm sure we just paid Gio and Beale their salary as normal until they got a new job.

Spoon

Havent bothered posting much recently as I have had nothing to say, the team leaves me numb this season. Clement has had a wealth of riches to work with, would he want more ? Yes what manager doesnt however a few things are worth restating; We arent the richest club in Scotland if our success is directly linked to spending power we can’t ever win. By that logic nobody with less money or resources should beat us. If success was simply about buying the top person for every position in the team then coaches are pointless and Pep would be winning his next league. The idea that the coach isnt to blame for how they set up, motivate and coach the players, and therefore ultimately they set the whole tone is madness. We were out thought and out fought by a team who are who far below us its unreal. They did what lots of others have done since Clement came in, used a tactic we dont like and executed their plan with fire, heart and togetherness. With our player pool (regardless of what we as fans think of individuals) they should have been unable to lay a glove on us IF we had been set up right, tactically, physically and mentally. That’s all on the coaching team. Clements style isnt suited to Scotland, it doesnt take cognisance of the league, our opponents and the quirks of our game, he hasn’t adapted or come to terms with it and I believe the players know this and have lost faith in him which is evident, at least to me, in their application in game. For a purple patch we say Igamane emerge and got more out of our broken bits and pieces from having a pseudo ‘two up’ formation, although on paper Im sure its still some 42211 or such madness. The bottom line was the 9 had more people around him in the box and it worked better. Igamane as a young guy was bound to dip, physically, mentally to just form was unlikely to stay at the level he burst onto the scene with. It doesn’t mean he’s now rubbish but he was carrying us the way we have allowed individuals to carry us before, in a way that was unsustainable long term. Im done hearing the excuses for Clement, the board could have given him more players yes but what he is doing with those he has is criminal. It’s also fair to say that even guys like Lawerence who is slated would be the envy of most other managers in the league if they could get a guy of his level. The injuries and fixation on guys who for one reason or another are just expensive filler on the RTV squad graphic dont help but they are distractions from the reality. Our squad even as it is, dog eared, ageing, inexperienced and with the perma injured is better than most. If it was the squad then we arent in the last 8 of Europe, it’s the managers style, set up and mentality in how he approaches Domestic games. Nothing will change until we move from these concept guys, the idealists and the ‘wait until i get X player in’ dreamers who dont have the pragmatic mentality everyone else in this league does of being willing to dig, dive, bite and scratch for every yard, foul and goal. Said it before, the foreign obsession hasn’t worked in our favour, neither in the short or long term. We need a reset, we need a manager who knows Scottish football, knows the players, doesnt need a fortune (lets face it we dont have one) but can identify talent and develop it. Anyone who genuinely thinks this is a rebuild its not. This is the equivalent of someone with a flatbed turning up at the door, quoting some building or landscaping works, taking a big deposit and then never coming back…..we have been conned, nothing is being built, nothing is being delivered, its all excuses and we have wasted our money such as we had. There are still some decent players and decent signings in that squad. There is a set up and way to play that could bring out the best in them, a more energy based, more attack minded more youth focused way to play that might take a few months to bed in but would set up at least a few more guys for next season. Clement wont do that though, he doesnt have it in him and if he does, he isnt able to communicate or sell it to those players. That is a group of individuals running about and hoping something comes off. As we do have talent in the team it does sometimes, but its random its untidy and we all know it’s unstructured. Another game in recent weeks I felt nothing at the end of, not shock, not suprise, not anger….nothing. That’s what Clement has created, pure 100% apathy.

Stewart Robertson

There’s not a feeling of real anger around this. You hit the nail on the head- it’s apathy. I’ll just go to my work tomorrow (as usual), and get the pish ripped out of me (as usual).

Hoggy

Hysteria and a hysterical response was 1967. Losing to Berwick Rangers was the worst domestic result in our history - the board ran for cover, the manager stood by the board as they made George McLean and Jim Forrest the scapegoats...... 30 goals between them in the half season to January 1967, 76 goals between them the previous season and Jim Forrest bagged 56 goals in season 1964/65. That's a hysterical response. Outlining the manager (after inconsistent period after inconsistent period) has lost the support and it's now time for him to depart is not hysterical - it's perfectly rational and logical. Rangers needs consistency - not rollercoaster, 13 points behind the Tims before Valentine's Day, and out of the Scottish Cup in our worst EVER domestic result (yes, today is worse than Berwick). What about injuries? What about them - anyone believe the players in the starting 11 weren't good enough? Perhaps "what about the lacklustre approach and appalling subs?" What about Clement not being backed? What about it - it's Queen's Park! Clement has done many good things and gets praise. Clement has done many bad things and some want him to be immune to criticism - that is beyond bizarre. I don't think he gets Rangers, I don't think he gets Scottish football. He certainly doesn't get consistent performances and results - and he has to go. It's Queen's Park at Ibrox. If you're ok with this and want him to continue? Well...... I'm astounded.

Mr J K Murray

Jesus went through worse Stewart [not Christ] in his time on this earth, have no real comment on today as it has been a normal for a decade, club do not care for the supporters, it is as plain as these overpaid childish spoilt players [cannot find a goal at Home lol] & a fellow excusing it because of the state we are in as a club, lol, Luke 11:17 [KJAV] ...a house divided against a house falleth

Bluelacoste

David is our cheapest option putting the fraud in gardening leave with pay, until he picks up another full time job, then we don’t have the big pay off and hopefully someone takes a chance on him. Bring in the caretaker until the summer and then bring in someone in a rolling contract even if it’s a 18-24 month rolling one instead of the 12 month that is the normal routine

Gordon Millar

He simply doesn't get Scottish football.... I'd love us to play in a league where teams had a go but we don't and we are a team that makes poor teams sit in and wait for us to drop off........ dreadful to watch and I'm fuckin fed up of players who love the glamour and don't care to turn up for the bread and butter of Scottish football.......bored, fed up and beyond anger with this shit show

Andy Barnett

First sign of trouble? You are joking aren’t you Billy? Mass hysteria? After the worst home result in our history it most certainly isn’t hysterical - that’s gaslighting. And managing with one hand tied behind his back will never make losing to Queens Park acceptable.

Doug Young

This is what bothers me most. At the end of the game for me there was no anger, no outrage. Just a shrug and a sigh again. That's what these people have done to my Rangers for me. Will never forgive them for that. Stop scouting the world for journeymen and foreign reserves. Find some players with fucking balls

Alastair McGeoch

There’s a lot of reasons why Clement should be sacked; not being able to get a reaction from the team when they lost 3-2 to county and the league was still in our hands; being unable to lay a glove on Celtic until he made us so shit Celtic thought they just had to turn up to scud us; talking all summer about fixing our fitness and still talking about it in Feb; telling us we wouldn’t see the best of the team until October and we still haven’t seen it (because this is as good as it gets); fluking into a system that was winning us games and then inexplicable dropping it in December; talking about sorting out all our injuries and not doing it; playing like a team who are not coached in anyway and yet the sole reason he absolutely must be gone tomorrow is that he appears to have no grasp of how bad a result that was today. If he doesn’t get that; he has no business being Rangers manager.

Graham Leatherbarrow

Left home at 745am just walked in at 1110pm, I put a lot more effort in today than all players, no desire, lacked passion, no game plan and couldn’t after all this time work out how we attempted to score. Worst I’ve ever seen since early 80s, change required to sort things out now ready for next season - play forward not side to side that’s useless and just allows time to reoganize time and again..

Doogz

Hoggy was told the story many times as a youngster by my old man about Berwick and it costing a terrific player in Jim Forrest in particular his Rangers career. Today needs to signal the end for Clement and his coaching team, there are players none of us want representing our club Patrick Stewart hopefully realises he is finished and plans are afoot for the next manager hopefully in the summer. As David has already said a caretaker to take the deadrubbers we have left

Scott Stewart

It’s Simple …. We are in Some Mess for the one mess. The overspending and resulting cost cutting has come home to roost. The players lack self motivation , desire and the few good ones, already have there eye on there next move. An utter shambles. Furthermore over the last year clement has made some crazy statements, excuses , team selection and subs! All which has added to our demise ! What a f..king mess! The club needs major investment and a new manager !

Stephen

Not even sure our good players are as good as we think. Jefte looks like a good player when he is running around but his defending and lack of goals/assists is a worry. Also I think when defenders learn to keep their feet closer together I think Igmane is going to struggle to break down defences too. Never known a set of players to do well for a few weeks then completely lose it as badly and as often as this team does. The manager needs to go but today was more about players just playing really badly. Even if his substitutions or tactics were wrong, the players made so many basic errors.

John Palmer

Absolute disgrace losing to QP. This game should've been a formality based on our recent form and upward trajectory, but sadly the Players went out and played with pure desperation. GIO got sacked for less, how Clement keeps dodging the bullet is unbelievable.

Graeme Duncan

Result beyond disappointing but not surprising which is the most damming thing.

Callum Greig

This has been going on since Motherwell last March. Enough is enough

Max Todd

Spot on mate. Europe is where we make our cash. Domestic season is a true disaster but I’ve got a funny feeling that we will still get a lot further in the EL. Even if we have the cash to sack Clement, I can’t see the benefit at this point - it’s not going to change anything domestically. Sad, but reality.

Daniel Ward

If he isn’t gone after the worst home cup result in donkeys years how bad will it have to get

Billy Forrester

Morning ladies and gents, on reflection and having slept on it ur all correct. I think he has to go, for his own good too. I have been on and off fence with him and so wanted him to succeed, hate sacking managers but this season is a disaster and it’s the manager who carries the can. What a mess we are in lads, it’s thoroughly depressing, will a new manager fix it, maybe not but I guess we gotta try .

Heart and Hand

Billy, congratulations because this might be the first time in the history of football fandom anyone has just sensibly taken points on board rather than doubled down!

Gary Nisbet

That background noise is more pleasant that watching that mess today. He has to go.

Fraser

It's the worst domestic result in our history, and standards say he has to go. But ... to give another manager anything substantial to spend in the summer, it's clear we'll need to make player sales. And the assets are more valuable the longer they stay in the European shop window. Pains me to say Clement could still get us to a quarter final or further. We undoubtedly need change in the summer, but is Europe too crucial to summer player trading to write that off by sacking him now?

Graeme McGill

Enough is enough. We've persevered with mediocrity since he came in the door. It's embarrassingly bad. He must be relieved of his duties in the coming days. He's ruining the whole experience of football for me now.

Alastair Thomson Mills

Won’t be the end. Our board will stick with him until next season now. They think they are breaking a ten year cycle. Bottom line is we won’t be playing a domestic game that matters a jot for 6 months.

Scott Franklin

We are a pound-shop Borussia Dortmund. Unless something seismic happens, this will be our future. A title/cup once in a blue moon.
