Despite his protestations to the contrary this guy simply doesn't get Rangers. Paul Le Guen MkII.

Vanb bryceter

Did he say cheerio. Get him gone please

Peter Hosie

The club are just waiting to give us a Di Matteo moment 😇

Peter Hosie

There’s also a lot of Slacktivism going on…

Rick

Sorry to swim against the time but I think Clement is only 3\4 players away from being an exceptional team

KMS

If Gerrard comes back how would you feel if he brought Beale back with him?

James McSween

He didn’t even apologise. Doesn’t get it and never will

Nikky Cairney

Never hated a Rangers manager until Clement. Cannot stand hearing him speak. Having watched British football for 30 odd years I don’t think i could name another manager at any other club who talks as much shite as Clement talks.

John leitch

It would be interesting to foresee if Rangers asked the question to Stevie G what the answer would be He definitely set standards and had an aura Whether we could offer enough for a reunion is questionable

David_Davy_Dave

I don’t want Gerrard. I don’t want to look backwards. But… You are right Colin, a McInnes feels small. We want domestic success but for the £, prestige & recruitment of players we need to do well in Europe too Instinctively I don’t want Gerrard. I can’t though think of a better fit. He understands the need to win etc & I believe would have the desire. He should also be counting his lucky stars if he gets another chance with us The big change is that what he wanted before he got. That can’t be the case now. He has to accept the model of young players with value & forget the English market (save a younger Bassey type profile of player wanting a post academy start) All of this though should be academic til the summer. Patrick Stewart should be working on this but I don’t want an interim as the is simply no caretaker that has a better chance of getting through the L16 than we do with Clement

White Family

Gerrard style of football was rotten let's not rewrite history. The amount of one nil wins and close games in 55 season seems to be forgotten. Also his two capitulations and St Johnstone and St Mirren cup games turgid crap.

mark wyper

Im just sick of it all it's a long time since I enjoyed watching rangers play even when we beat Celtic recently I didn't feel it and that's sad because you kinda know what is just around the corner and he went are .

Robert White

Scudded Celtic regularly. Won our only league in 14 years. Wouldve won more but for the SFA corruption. Superb in Europe. Rotten in domestic cups. He lifted their weak mentality most times. We need aggressive winners. He wins. Left us 8 points clear at the top. Id love Gerrard back for 3 years.

Graeme McGill

I'd rather watch a re-run of the Queens Park game than listen to Clement now. Over 40 years of going to Ibrox and this is what its come down to.

David Innes

Clement being allowed to keep his job is almost as embarrassing as the result.

Graeme McMillan

We went out the cup to st Johnstone st Mirren Aberdeen at home and hearts away. Won one trophy out of 9 and he was about to be sacked before Covid. Thanks for 55 yes but we shouldn’t be wanting him back

James

Let’s face it, there is nothing, absolutely nothing, other than “i’m leaving” that would have satisfied the support so all a bit redundant. Gerrard took a number of years to win the league and has failed everywhere else he has gone, who was a hair away from being sacked by us too. Let’s also not forget how we were talking about Beale being the brains behind Gerrard…. I can’t help but think whoever comes in will be gone in 2 years if not before. Maybe I’m just being pessimistic but it is how I feel. Absolutely shocking how much the other lot have benefited from our fuckups since 2012.

BlueJay

Nice of leekens to read the reply clearly written by phil

Jock Paterson

Please stop quoting twitter as a marker of fan feeling. It’s a cesspit, even the Rangers Twitter. I’d argue McInnes is a better bet than Gerrard and one of the few British managers we can afford. And we surely need a British manager as no international managers we’ve had work here. Even Advocate bought the brief success he had before it went pear shaped under him. We are lightweight and consistently underestimate the Scottish opposition. It’s not International influence we need right now.

Sgems90

Steven Gerrard - no

George Wells

The best bit was Stevie calling Ronnie Esplin; Ronnie Epstein 😂

Stewart McKee

Colin, i enjoyed your explanation of who you would want as next manager, even if i dont agree with it. Any chance of the rest of the main podders doing a show on who they want to replace Clement and who they dont?

Gordon Docherty

Gerrard very realistic but massive no. All respect for job he done but just no. It's a job for Muscat now

David Mackie

Listened to the press conference, listened to the pod cast, had a week to think about it !! ... Still 1000% ( not a typo ) want him out !! I hate the current Rangers regime I really do. Season Ticket renewal.. Stick it.

Brett

Don’t think we can have Gerrard back as it probably means Beale as well - that’s something that will tip the fans further over the edge. Clements comments about the synergy etc is with the Union bears not the rest of us I reckon. He is thinking about the hampden celebration nonsense

John Myles

i agree i would have Gerrard back the main reason is he’ll not stand for the dreadful decisions (cheating) that’s being going on since he left.

Alan Baxter

Clement has taken away my main enjoyment at a weekend of watching rangers again by losing the hope there might be something. The play has always been crap but at least there was hope, and he has lost that now. No going back. This needs action by fans. We need to dig out our version of the shark fence protests

Granters

The main reason we don’t win things is attitudinal. We have a squad that can raise its game to the levels required but can’t keep it there. There’s an impression they turn up for the glamorous games they fancy then think they can coast and dial it in against jobbers. They can’t, which is why we drop points and lose games to jobbers. This issue pre-dates Clement but his problem is he hasn’t fixed it. We need proper leadership on the park and in the dressing room. We’ve been crying out for a Weir / Gough / Brown / Davis type for ages and successive managers haven’t found those characters.

William Noble

Why would you take of hagi and put yilmaz on? Absolutely clueless

Duncan Hegan

The reality is the board aren’t sacking him. He’s staying. He might well have lost the fans but the fans don’t have the power to fire him. People keep saying ‘I can’t see him winning the league’ but who would? Who could have come in after Beale and won the league the following season?

Stewart Robertson

The should have put Dujon Sterling up for the presser.

Campbell Docherty

There's absolutely no reason to think Gerrard would be a success nor is there any reason to think he has any ambition given he flopped at Villa and immediately buggered off to Saudi Arabia. If you want to see how our standards have nosedived, it's yearning for a manager who won 1 domestic trophy out of 9

Calum Downham

Colin, I’d love to see Gerrard back as well. But why do you think he’d want to come back? It’s pretty clear that the dysfunctional directors that chased him in 2022 are still in place, his working relationship seemed to be with King for me his interview at Ibrox at the last game of the season was telling, he wanted to press on and strengthen while the sun was shining and in the end he got John Lundstrum and a panic buy in Bacuna. There’s no way a self respecting manager would come back and work with the board after all that shite

Graham Jones

We’re in the same place as we were under Gerrard, where we did well and then screwed things up. There was a similar pattern then to now, but the only difference is we don’t have one the poster boys of modern football managing us. Gerrard took till his third attempt to get things right, and he had a more generous budget every season, to say the least. But, it’s likely people who want the manager gone will get their way eventually, because the louder they scream the more unbearable it will become for the directors to listen to. In the end, the board have been the real culprits in all of this, not Phillipe Clement. He has been a victim of the mess created by other people, and he is now being demonised because he can’t make the team winners quickly enough. There is on quick fix, and there never was, but Clement has admitted he maybe shouldn’t have given the impression that there was a shorter fuse he had to burn before the team clicked. These are kids he’s working with, at the end of the day. We have some in defence, but have been lacking experience further up the field, and that was my criticism when the January window closed. The manager was obviously disappointed as well, and that mood has probably spread through the squad a bit. When you make a timely signing it lifts team morale and players try a bit harder to impress. There is a deep need for new investment, and until that is secured we are going to be moving in the slow lane. Yes, we may sell to buy in the meantime, but the pain is likely to continue for a while longer if that is the case. The board failed to back the manager, again in January, maybe because the right deal wasn’t there, but he should’ve been given something to help him in the meantime. A player who couldn’t get a game in France is not what he was looking for.

Stephen

Yeah. Not sure Gerrard would have the same drive as he did when he knows he is never going to get the big jobs in England he would want now. Beale was a big part of his team and there is no way he can come back. Also, not a chance he would come back with no budget to work with. He’ll have topped up his pension in Saudi Arabia so don’t imagine he will be desperate to get back involved in management again too quickly

John McDonald

Away you go! Gerrard was part of the problem, he kept players that had a decent sell on value, but wanted to keep his big squad, his reluctance to move forward is still costing us and it’s delusional to think otherwise, it’s as daft as wanting Souness back as manager.

Hendi

You said the new manager should be given 2 years before you'd expect him to be competing with Celtic - what range of point disparity would you accept finishing behind them next season then?

Tommy

Gerrard wouldn’t come back unless promised a significant net spend. Those days should be in the past

Tommy

Gerrard struggled domestically for a while too (at least initially, especially against low block) it seems to have been an ongoing issue for us over the years. I’d be looking for a dramatic change, someone who would utterly change our approach, create excitement and drag us from the blandness. Only Muscat comes to mind as a realistic option

Tommy

Hang on,the board rested on their laurels and didn’t support Gerrard? This is as big a Rangers myth as you can find. The sales of Aribo, Bassey and Patterson fairly soon afterwards didn’t provide a cash boost, we were utterly desperate to bring cash in and it merely stopped a financial catastrophe after the amount of investment we put behind Gerrard. Gerrard had no consideration for that. We can’t employ managers now who don’t accept the financial reality of how we are working. Anyone demanding guarantees on spend etc shouldn’t be considered.

David Innes

The next appointment needs to be someone all the fans can get behind - I’ve no idea who that is but it’s clearly not McInnes or Gerrard

John Hood

Totally agree. Easily the most accurate summation of the situation to date. Surprised some of our more 'balanced' podders can't see this. But then again that wouldn't attract 'clicks' 🙄. Call me cynical.

KennyY

You and I know that’s an impossible task. Our fans are both the best and worst supporters in the world. Just read the live chat comments on a Rangers Review morning briefing and this is evident.

Colin

Are you new here John? We have about 50 regular contributors to the site here and not one of them says a single thing here to attract clicks. We are behind a paywall John, you’re already here listening. There’s no need or want for clickbait. That’s not how we operate.

Scott Watson

We had losses of 23 million and 16 million in Gerrard's last two years Those losses were plugged by investors rather than selling assets at their peak value They should have been telling Gerrard "get a grip, we need to be selling one or two of our main assets every summer" but they let him keep his squad together - they paid the upfront cost (and that was obviously huge) but we're all paying for it now That's not Gerrard's fault - although we would greatly benefit from someone being realistic about that and not spouting off in press conferences that "we didn't spend a penny" after bad results (Gerrard after Sparta Prague loss - with the same squad that Gio took within two kicks of the trophy) The board did handle that summer badly but it was by supporting Gerrard too much to the long term detriment of the club

Colin

I would want us to pick up the same or very close to the same number of points against the rest of the league as they do. The OF games would be more difficult and we would have to be patient of. I know exactly where you are going with this but this season and pretty much everyone’s issue with the current manager is about far more than just points in the league.

Scott Watson

McInnes would be a dead duck He turned us down before and rightly or wrongly, as soon as something goes wrong (and let's not be coy about this, whoever comes in next is going to have plenty of bumps in the road) he'll have the millstone of "he never had a winners mentality or he wouldn't have shat it due to concomitant risk" around his neck

Graham Ellis

I don't think there's a chance of Gerrard coming back, other than a sense of nostalgia he might have as Rangers being the last job he enjoyed. The other reason would be he needs to rebuild his reputation in Britain, which is currently in tatters after disastrous spells in England and Saudi, post leaving us. If he's any aspirations of managing in England again, which he might not, he needs a project like us where he can improve the team and make strides in Europe. That said I can't see him being interested, especially as the Parks are still there. One thing that would make me love a Gerrard appointment is, he wouldn't put up with the corruption of the SFA/SPL. He called it out when he was here. Talk of a replacement is irrelevant right now as this board and the decision makers have no ability to read the room. Clement is still spouting nonsense in press conferences about Queens Park being a poor result, rather than an utter disaster, and saying he needs results to turn everything around. We have no competitive game in Scotland until August. What results will matter and signify a turnaround? A strong board would be having a word in his ear and telling him his tone needs to change. He isn't getting how terrible a result Sunday was. Literally nobody cares we had X amount of shots on target. We got beat by a lower league team at Ibrox for the first time in our Scottish Cup history. But nobody will guide him as the board have such little ability to guage the feelings of the fans, they are one step away from sanctioning a green away kit.

Rose Mcloughlin

I love the passion that steven gerrad had with us and the team..if he left because he had no back up from the board I would welcome him back he totally understands our game and club history but didnt he say he left because he was missing his family who stayed behind in England or was that a smokescreen...esp that he moved abroad....so I am sitting on the fence..🤫...only know I have zero confidence in Clement...cant wait for this season to finish even if we were to reach another Euro Final it will never change how I feel sitting in the stands watching us struggle against most of our so called smaller teams in Scotland...get our league games right first then europe.

Douglas Innes

Next manager needs time ? Maybe we should ask GVB Beale or even Clement about he " time " thing , if there's o be a change I'd lije football that is at least on the front foot and at least worth watching

Granters

Gerrard also dropped the ball massively by failing to negotiate what should’ve been a very winnable path to Champions League football with the Malmo tie. That was a sliding doors moment in our modern history. If we get CL football that season then i think the time since looks a lot different. Players noticeably dropped off in form and fitness after that tie. The squad Gerrard wanted kept together collapsed in value and put in one of the lamest title defences you’ll ever see. Players who should’ve been moved on for good money ended up walking out the door for nothing. Gerrard himself lost interest and started on an exit strategy. Everything since then has been a shambles.

John Hood

No not 'new'. Been a subscriber for a few years now. Left due to negativity from a few of your podders. Back within a few days - couldn't stay away 😂 Just airing my opinion. Appreciate the great work by you and the rest of the team Cheers Colin.

Watson Bell

Even if they can't say who they would want. Maybe what qualities the new gaffer should have? For me being a winner. Do we want a philosophy manager, tactical boss etc.

Iain McHolm

Steven Gerrard is a lazy option and to say he was successful is not exactly true, 1 trophy in 4 years isn't a success and let's remember he was 1 game fron the sack prior to covid. To be brutally honest he has a part to play in our current financial position by holding onto players for too long when we could have had decent money coming in for them to reinvest.
