Kev Roberts

I like the headline of this!!!

Martin Maliska

Make Rangers Great Again 🇬🇧😁

Rona Bluebell

Ah right now I’m taking it seriously. Is this a good thing?

fgx

I can’t believe this might actually be real

Elaine Campbell

Ahhhh a breaking news pod!! It's been a while my old friend 😂😂💙

Neil Wilson

As a Niners fan, this is weird.

Samuel Campbell

Where is the usual breaking news pod music? Or have I imagined such a thing existed?

Robert Deavy

There is always the fear due to what Happened in 2011…however We need investment, Owners with new and fresh ideas to take us forward

Jack Sheppard

These things fall through a lot so trying to not get too excited 😬

William Hughes

Get nervous at the thought of it all again.

Jamba

Homer Simpson style beer hats on trial in the club deck.

Hendi

Why is word breaking now? Surely people at this level can keep their business quiet until it's done?

Steven L

Do we think dave king will be part of this?

John Smith

Leeds fans I’ve spoke to seem to like them. Anecdotal but still something

Peter Hosie

Aye but what school did he go too 😂

Dougie

Wearing flowers in my hair now 🤪😜

Gary Newlove

WTF! Please be true and please let me not regret letting Americans taking over us if so. Very exciting and equally worrying at the same. time

Lewis Wardrope

So this is what Shane has been up to then?

Stuart Sheils

As long as we don’t become a Leeds feeder club

Scott

Parking my negativity till we see how this plays out! Make Rangers Great Again

Alan Weir

Big George Kittle: score for fun over here👍😁

Stuart MacKenzie

Bring the 49ers over for a pre season friendly.

Brian Rae

True or untrue, change is needed and long overdue.

Graham johnston

Knowing our board they've probably confused SF (San Francisco) with Sinn Fein

Billy McCormack

So David if this goes ahead, how does this go with the whole FFP situation, ie if we're in the FFP bracket how does that go with buying players etc?

Gary Newlove

Don't even joke about stuff that may become reality, I am as terrified as I am excited!

James

I can’t help but feel this is a bad thing. I got excited when I heard about Craig Whyte, look what happened there. If it is the same people sniffing around a while ago then my confidence won’t be improved.. Logically they would have to plough a huge amount of money in to counter the finances of the other lot. Why would they?

Graeme McLeod

Doesn't appear to be the same people as these investors have links to the San Francisco 49ers.

Ewan Christie

“There will be pluses and minuses”. It can’t get much more minus-ey so fuckin bring it on!

James

Thanks Graeme. My misgivings (aka fear of Craig Whyte types) still need to be allayed!

Scott Kirkwood

A great puppet once said "Merica, fuck yeah!"

Fraser Dobbie

We want this to be good news, but I find it deeply concerning. What would an American investor with no connection with the club want from the club? - presumably a financial return. How is that to be achieved when we run consistently at a loss? The last guys that wanted a financial return from Rangers stole from the support. To protect the future of the club, we must be owned by Rangers supporters. And I’m not saying that means we don’t need to be professionally managed.

Stephen

Possibly to test the water with the fans? Imagine the uproar if something was signed and sealed and we didn’t like it?! Find it strange that Patrick Stewart would release that video today if something like this was round the corner though.

Rona Bluebell

49. A new number for my passwords ☺️

John Smith

I get that James. But these guys are legit. Think we’ll be in good hands. We need to dare to be great

Andrew Hunter

Rangers can be profitable, albeit with a tighter wage bill, player trading, commercial growth and continuing to perform well in European competition.

Colin Gardner

The only way for them to make any kind if serious profit is Champions League. So that means winning the league on a more regular basis. Not rocket science but they would need to make us more competitive against the " We nearly beat Bayern" mob.

Andrew Hunter

Get what you are saying but we can't tar all potential investors with the same brush just because of Whyte.

John Smith

These guys own the 49ers and Leeds. They know what they’re doing. We need to hear them out and give them a chance

Dougie

I know I shouldn’t but I’m getting very excited! TOUCHDOWN 🤣😍😇

Gordon Millar

Could be great news but wary of investment that needs returns in a league that has little money in terms of prize money, obviously Europe is the prize.......maybe we can have a team for SPFL and Europe....... Americans will want a return on any investment!

Fraser Dobbie

That’s the goal, but we’d want any profit to be reinvested in growth, not distributed to shareholders. Even if we were comfortable with shareholder value creation. The above is an extremely uncertain route to return, I don’t see how the risk / reward stacks up for anyone that isn’t interested in Rangers as a fan. If it doesn’t make sense, my fear is that a more aggressive route to financial gain would be taken, which would have negative long term consequences for the club.

John Davidson

Way too long in the tooth to get anything other than highly sceptical over any potential takeover. We need to become a self-sustaining club rather than putting faith in any fairy godmother.

Harry Padda

Would this have anything to do with the share issue?

Stewart Robertson

After Craig Whyte, I'm taking this with a huge pinch of salt

Billy Jolly

So has it been a ‘Due Diligence’ rather than an internal review?

Paul Kerr

Not gonna get carried away but could be a good thing for us, only time will tell.

mark wyper

Do you think this has something to do with the news last week about uefa in talks with new york based Relevent sports and maybe the 49'ers think rangers could be a part of this in the future.

James

I understand. But wasn’t the whole Craig Whyte era announced by Keith Jackson too, with the “wealth off the radar” soundbite? I’m sure you understand why I’m a bit tentative here 😂 Additionally it wouldn’t actually cost that much to gain a controlling interest. It doesn’t follow that any majority shareholder would throw money at us. I don’t mean to piss on everyone’s chips but I’d rather be too careful than too welcoming at this point 😂

Alan Cowan

Ridvan can step in for the 1 point conversion going on his shots on goal If the takeover happens, I'm looking forward to the "new" stadium. To generate more income we need a 70k capacity stadium Ibrox will not be big enough for a decent ROI.

Stuart McNiven

As a 49ers fan I'm gonna take credit for karmically bringing this into being! Seriously though, 49ers Enterprises are a really interesting company as they constantly seek to bring on-board new investors with fresh capital. It's a very wide investor base with many people who are at the top of their own respective industries. Weird that it was only the other day that you spoke about this kinda thing on the Daily Update!

Mark Boyd

It’s such a positive. The lack of any drive forward from the board has choked us since 55. Grateful for all they have done but time for a fresh start

Martin Maliska

Investment can increase the turnover across the club which means more to spend on the squad.

Karl Waring

Have we not heard this shite before..

Graeme McLeod

We currently consistently run at a loss because of the failings of this board. And they've set us so far back behind Celtic that you'd be forgiven for thinking 55 was a dream. We cannot continue to go on being a club that relies on Rangers supporting investors propping up with loans - that they fully intend on recouping - to make up for the financial hole their bad decisions put us in. A football club should be run as a business. Our current model isn't sustainable and we'll never reach self-sustainability under our current owners. That should have been clear to everyone for years now.

Graeme McLeod

Yeah, but it wasn't difficult to find out that Whyte had no money. Murray knowingly sold us down the river. This board have failed us in many respects, but they won't do what Murray did. If any dovsell their shares it'll be because the other party has the money and a vision for the club they're comfortable with. Plus it isn't just about money. We need people involved who actually know how to run a football club, from both the sporting and business side. That isn't the case just now. We're pinning our hopes presently on Patrick Stewart, and given Man U's recent struggles it's hardly something to feel positive about.

Fraser Dobbie

Need to decouple ownership and management. Rangers should be owned by fans who truly care about the club. It should be run by professionals who are paid to maximise its performance as a business.

Billy McCormack

Hope so Martin, I want us to at least be competing again, that way more money coming in and a better chance to bring higher rated players.

David Innes

Personally I don’t have an issue with us being part of a multi club model - it’s just the way football is going . The 49ers are doing a pretty decent job at Leeds and are likely to have them as solid mid table EPL side in a few years. Obviously the devil will be in the detail and I understand the argument that we don’t want to be a feeder club but also I’m pretty fucking sick of watching that lot waltz to treble after treble. If this helps us close the financial gap and attract a better quality of player then I’ll be all for if

CJT

Wow, suspicious but intrigued. You make money out of Rangers by winning. If they know that then maybe. Could also be leaked to divert the shit due to drop come St Boo game.

David Innes

Can confirm this - only negative at the moment is the fact they’ve allowed Red Bull to get involved

Stephen

I assume money can be spent on things like increasing stadium capacity to increase revenues without affected FFP?

Billy McCormack

Aye Stephen I said that to my mate today, we invest in increasing the stadium capacity that's even more revenue without ffp hindering us, so maybe this potential takeover is what's been spoken about.

Graeme

Big mad red foam hands for

Andrew Meldrum

Maybe in so far as directors might be better off converting loans to shares if there is a sale on the cards.

Andrew Meldrum

Across the city they make profits every year, some of which are paid to shareholders, some invested in players and some held back to pay for compensation for the sins of the 70s and 80s.

Robert White

A billionaire with an ego fine. An investment company only exists for profit. There is no profit in Rangers. None. Losses. Any profit would be from exceptional success and then its lost income to the club next season. Zero attraction from me: we need professional staff to suppport our fan board. At any point if success isnt quick they can asset strip and the 1st asset is us fans then the stadium etc. Higher and higher prices, just like Ashley did with Newcastle. Chase them Rangers.

Andrew Meldrum

My starting point is that it would remove Graham Park from the board, so that's one good thing.

Jim Milne

Not sure what to think if I'm honest. We do need investment, but I don't want us to be a feeder club for anyone. Nor do I want to be in a "stable of club ownership" like Red Bull or City Group where stadiums are named after companies, etc. I get football ownership has changed, as has the landscape in Europe, etc. Investment groups don't invest in teams outside of the EPL unless it's for feeder clubs. Sure we can generate money in Europe but we aren't guaranteed money the way English clubs are. The current board/owners have taken us as far as they can, are likely stressed, tired and want out which I understand. It has my interest, but I'm very wary.

Alan Cowan

Nothing to add, Just wanted to be the 100th comment

Allan Osborne

On face value I'm all for this. Let's face it, without something like this we are going backwards, and at an alarming rate. Please let it be true 🙏

Watson Bell

I can introduce you to a Nigerian prince?? He has some cash he needs to get out if the country

Watson Bell

It could potentially smoke out other interested parties? If nothing else will lift the mood of the support for a few weeks

David P

I'm trying to keep my powder dry until this is concrete but I'm not going to lie. I'm on the brink of shooting my load 😍

David P

My guess is that the reason it's come out now is that all parties are confident this gets done and they know they need to throw us the support a bone.

Andy Forgrieve

As a Seahwaks fan, F@#K!!!! On the plus side if they throw lots of their money into Rangers maybe the 49ers will suffer ;)

Stuart McNiven

🤣🤣 Well it looks like the York Family are selling 10% of the franchise, so they'll be even more cash rich!

Graham Jones

It really depends on their intentions and how they would see Rangers in their multi-club stable. What we need to find out, is this John Henry and Tom Werner or are we getting the Glazers at Man Utd? Whatever happens here, it’s not a bad thing because it shows that people are looking at us. I just look and wonder if they see us as on a par with Leeds Utd, above or below, because if nit;s the latter then the alarm bells ring for me. I simply don’t want to see them scared away by negativity at this point, but we are trusting the current board to judge the intentions of a potential incoming owner, and that’s the one part that scare the shit out of me. Do they have the character to judge? While the 49er’s tag bring glamour with it, we need to discover their intentions for us at the end of the day. We don’t want big Yorkshire hands all over our club again, do we?

Brian

Thanks for cheering me up luv the show

Neil

just glad it isnt a bunch of Cowboys investing in us again. ...hate Dallas

Dave White

I look forward to the next season of Rangers, the last couple have been shit. I just hope they don't just recycle the plot from the last "billionaire takeover" storyline.

Ian purfit

I agree with your points Robert . Do you know , or does anyone reading know how secure our major assets are ? ( stadium etc) After our recent history, has this board been able to “ lock “the assets to the club . Future proof if you like . Is this even a thing that is possible? . Hopefully before any major changes we will here from the likes of Dave King and other financially astute trusted Rangers men 🤞

Scott Watson

No board can do anything to bind their successors - if they control enough shares they can do what they want

Scott Watson

You can spend whatever you want on infrastructure So yes, they could come in and drop a billion on a new stadium if they really wanted to I wouldn't get your hopes up though. As the Overlord notes, this is a money-making exercise for them and seeing a return on infrastructure is a decade's long project (see: NEH but on a scale orders of magnitude higher) There are better ways of making money if you have that sort of capital to throw around

Scott Watson

We are kidding ourselves if we think anyone outside of scotland looks at a Scottish team at the same level as a team they expect to be in the EPL Martyn was making the point on seagulls that championship teams are starting to earn higher revenues than almost all teams even in top 5 leagues And no, money isn't everything to us - but it is to investment groups

Gregg

It would be interesting to try and understand what Ibrox is actually worth, not sure there is an alternate use for the site given it’s listed. So to sell it you’d be looking at an investor who’d then be leasing it back - not even sure this is allowed (certainly down south)

ali t

Interesting......hopefully they see club as worth developing and trading players / winning etc through player trading and development. Rather than Glazers set up as fans just cash cow to ream.
