The Paradox of Rangers in European Football: Why are we excelling in Europe while struggling domestically in Scotland? If it were as straightforward as stating that Rangers thrive on a European style but struggle against the physicality of Scottish teams, which are more suited to a technical and open European game, then why don’t other Scottish clubs succeed in Europe with their physical, low-block strategies? They consistently fall short!

Fckin love the Strokes

They can win games like last night as they're not expected to. They can play without the pressure being on them; it's a free hit. Same reason they could beat Celtic at Ibrox after the league was already lost, but couldn't beat Queen's Park at home in the cup. The mentality of the team is rotten, and has been for years. Whoever is appointed manager has a job on their hands at trying to instill the right culture.

We don't struggle with physicality it's a myth .We are consistently refereeing to a different standard in every game we play in Scotland. How folk still can't see this is beyond me. Yes at times we have been utter gash but opposing teams are actively encouraged to kick shit out of us with a few late bookings to cover up the cheating. Last night was another example of non biased officiating. I honestly feel when I watch us against the thugs in our league the players look like they are a goal down before we start because they know they're getting kicked all over the park with no protection from the cheating officials

Graham johnston

Sorry for your loss Richard. Hopefully the support of the Rangers family can help comfort you all, even just a little at this very difficult time.

Gregg

It’s happening again isn’t it Alan - all aboard Barry’s Bilbao Bus (sponsored by Parks).

Derek Malaney

Last night, I was a bit in neutral spirits prior to kick off. Wasn't expecting much after recent disappointments perhaps. Then boom. I cannot get my head around this turn of form!

G Calder

I think you are correct … Jose should request Scottish officials at Ibrox & he will have a better chance of winning !

Tom

I want to be as staunch as Gino when I grow up!😂🔴⚪🔵

Rugby this weekend Colin I do wonder if being out the cup would allow the club to lobby the SPFL to move some of our final league games to ensure further free weekends between 1st and 2nd legs should we progress? Imagine the split complicates that a bit

Jim Milne

So sorry for your loss Richard. Wish I had more than just words for you. Condolences to you, your family and anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Christopher. 💙

We won’t get Cerny unless he digs his heels in and demands to come to us. There will be plenty of teams interested after our European matches. I don’t understand why the negativity about him - it isn’t as if wingers are shining examples of consistency! If you had told me at the start of the season that Dessers and Cerny would be pivotal I’d have thought you were mad. 😄 The European matches are a separate thing. I’ve seen people say they don’t care because we are rotten domestically but c’mon we are totally in a golden period for us in terms of Europe. Whether or not that is because of the Europa league and not CL I don’t know, but the money is certainly welcome and needed!

Alastair McGeoch

I agree. We talk a lot about the younger fans and what they see (or not) domestically and what they e missed out on but they’re getting to see a real golden spell in Europe

Robert White

Unpalatable but true: every single game in Scotland, we are referreed differently. That is simply undeniable. I remember the Americas north and south did a meta study of refs decisions. 60% of decisions on average go to the home team likely psychological pressure. Question. When was the last time one single ref gave us 60% ?

Graham Jones

It’s always heartbreaking hearing about someone losing their life at a football match, and I just want to pass on my condolences to Chris’s family and friends. As for the football, we need to be very wary and will need to play better than we did in Turkey. That’s just a fact, because you could sense that Mourinho was embarrassed and will want to put things right from his point of view. He’s got a record for handing out lessons in Europe, and Barry has to use all the experience and help he can get. We will still need a top class manager at the end of the season no matter what happens with this run, just as we will need to change the squad of players, but the longer we extend our time in this tournament the more funds we accrue for the summer transfer window. Of course, winning the whole thing would be ideal as it would open up the Champions League, and the money, to the club. That’s would concern me with these Americans coming in, because what would they do with that revenue? There are still a lot of questions need answering before this deal goes through for my mind. We need to remain vigilant of whoever is running the club.
