The standard of young referee coming from the West of Scotland league etc is even worse. I watch them every week and if anything the female referees are better than the men from what I have seen! In terms of paying for professional referees the SFA/SPFL should scrap prize money for 1st and2nd place in the league to fund it. The real prize money comes from the chance to play in Europe so old firm teams don’t need that extra money from league positions.

The thing about the refereeing standards is that I’m not sure it’s even a good idea to turn them professional, because all you’re doing is rewarding them to screw us over at every turn. The club need to keep turning the screw and go further in their investigations, and if it comes to it they should make their findings public in various ways. They could start by putting out stats that don’t align as being normal and fair. I wasn’t aware they could go down any further because of the water table. Didn’t they look into doing it again and the findings were that it was a no-go. Maybe they can do it now with modern building techniques, but I seem to remember it wasn’t possible in the past. It would make more sense that what they spent on NEH, which offers very little return so far for the outlay. Four million every year is a huge uptick in revenue for a relatively modest spend . They would probably recoup the cost in three years and after that it would be new profit. Probably what they should’ve done a few years ago when they had the chance. I do still think we will need to fill in the corners at some point, especially with 20,000 on the waiting list. Just halving that waiting list would bring us much more clout every summer. If they improve the level of the team, and take us back to Champions League football on a regular basis, then the waiting list would soon load up again. I think Rohl’s record is about where we thought it would be. I don’t think we can say too much about the semi-final because there were extenuating circumstances for that defeat that weren’t purely down to our performance. You can’t draw any comparisons when you’re forced to play so much of the game a man down, when the referees are not going to do their jobs properly. Roma was far too early for this squad. We’ve last a lot of the European base within the squad over a couple of seasons, and we hired a gut in the summer who was out of his depth at that level. We will always need to make sure we hire managers who can handle Europe, because that is where our financial rewards are, and we’ve kinda blown it so far this season. Let’s be honest, Martin would struggle to handle the Europa Conference. Rohl has some serious work to do if he’s to give us something from this campaign.
