Summer 2012 was the most uncertain pre-season in Rangers history. As Charles Green's takeover was completed, Rangers were expelled from the top division and speculation grew as to which division the SFL would welcome us into. A shameful press conference from two departing players fed the general sense of bloodlust which could have ended with us losing titles but Ally's steadfast refusal to be bounced into it remains one of his finest hours.

Join David, Stuart and Rob as they discuss Ally's career as Gers boss.

I've just started watching Killing Eve and there is some medical / torture BDSM in ep 3. This is my weekly dose of that.

Sorry it's way too hard to listen to the squeaky S's. Please invest in your microphones

Agree with Rob. To an extent I felt Naismith & Whittaker were worked from the back by their tim agent Peter McLean. The press conference was a car crash of an idea.

John Smith

The presser was disastrous but I don’t believe either Whittaker or Naismith in particular would have intentionally tried to hurt the club. Naisy looked as though his soul had been ripped out. People will disagree but in my eyes this will never take away his status as a club legend.

The original 5 way agreement included stripping league cup wins which David longmore then went on to admit that the SFL had not even been consulted on it. Just shows how emboldened they felt at that time to try and do whatever they felt like.

Ah yes rod McKenzie the celtic fan who worked for Harper mcleod who as well as being the spfl lawyers were also Celtic lawyers. I remember when the conflicts of interests debate was raised he was described by the spfl as a 'low level paper gatherer' but when he was in a car crash the spfl put their witch hunt on hold until he could continue. This was also the time I learned about the nuance between 'consequences' and 'puniishments' Never a good thing to try and to get inside the mind of cletic fans - and I can still not understand how they managed to conclude the '5 way agreement' showed the spfl and sfa were pro rangers

Really wish you could put gifs in the comments section on this because to describe the Naismith leaving situation I’d simply put the Homer Simpson one him on that wee car driving over the bridge and burning it on his way over.

That’s one take. The responsibility to carry out that press conference in that manner can’t be delegated to his ‘advisor’. They both own it. It would take something more than money for me or most Rangers fans to realise that there’s a potential to never , ever be welcome back at Ibrox. Fuck him.

Dirty bastards tried to put us out the game, and when that didn't happen, they just kept putting the boot in. They took as much from us financially as they could - we were still liable for football debts whilst they were hitting us with fines, withholding prize money and taking any transfer money we were due. And they tried to stop us on the pitch too with a transfer embargo despite us not having enough players. Stripping the titles would have been the thing to top it all off, so I have no end of thanks to Ally for digging in and not accepting this. Those trophies were won on the pitch fair and square.

This was one of the darkest times I can remember. I had travelled across to Le Havre for the friendly we had to cancel and remember being in a cafe bar waiting for the news of which division we would be playing in. Terrible times

Just an awful summer - felt like a new source of pain every few days. I was on holiday in late May and got talking to someone who turned out to be a Sheffield Utd fan. He was straight into it with Green and that he would tell you fantastic things and have you believing him… before pulling the rug from under you and utterly screwing the club for all he could. I thanked him for that insight over the coming months as we were treated to the full charm offensive from Chuckles. I worked for a German company at the time and had colleagues from all over Europe wishing that all would work out for my club. Meanwhile in Scotland, folk is known since I was a kid were purple in the face demanding that my club must, “die”. Strange times.

This whole debacle was a nightmare, but "Strike the tities" was the best thing to come out of it lol
