Anyone else have the video of this season but it only went up to the Skol cup final? Was this standard practice in those days? I never got the 2nd part

Ross Matheson

Yeah, it's got Gary Stevens v Aberdeen on the front cover? I think the "2nd part" covered the whole season. 1st one must've been released for sales on the off-chance we didn't win the league and didn't want to release one come May 89. https://ibb.co/qgxDKQy Don't know how to make that link clickable on Patreon.

Samuel Campbell

Yeah that's the one. I know I got it a few years later along with the battle of Britain VHS so maybe the 2nd one was a bit harder to find by then

Fraser Martin

I had that VHS! I think McCoist & Robertson would have been like a Cottee and McAvennie.

Neil 55

How Simpson only got a yellow card for that assault is beyond me.

Lee Colvin

Great listen again lads, that Skol Cup Final was very underrated.

David Clapperton

Absolutely love that story about Ally and Luc Sonor coz amazing as it sounds for a French international but I ended up playing with Luc in the Ayr United Reserves. 🤣 Was actually a really nice fella actually.👌🏻

John Mclevy

Great show was at the skol cup final with my dad and also Cologne was my first home European game

Raymond Paxton

A great listen again.A random memory from the second leg of the Koln tie...on the underground to the match, a packed train, mostly silent as the support have trepidation, knowing it will be very difficult to turn around a two goal deficient against a German team.

Raymond Paxton

However a random punter breaks the silence by starting a rendition of the Dads army theme tune, the passengers start singing along.Younger listeners can ask an elder what Dads Army was.

The story of Ian Durrant should not be about the injury/assault, or what he was robbed of - but rather how he overcame that to win so many titles, shine in the Champions League (the biggest stage of all) and star and score in cup finals. All after two-and-a-half years out. Incredible stuff.

Craig McCrimmon

I get where you coming from mate and we all think fondly of Durrant in those later years at Rangers he's a legend for me the best player we've ever produced through our own youth level. I sure Martyn and the guys mean any disrespect with this This is a historical piece about moments in time and where Ian was as a player in that moment, it's very important to talk about it because for me had he not been cut down for 2 years he'd have gone on to bigger things in the game that young version of Durrant could have stepped into the midfield of anyone. All the best Mark WATP

Mark

Hi mate, it wasn't my intention at all to infer that any disrespect was conveyed on this show (clearly wasn't, everybody loves Ian Durrant). it was more just a rambling thought about how we as a fanbase in general frame his career. Have a great day Craig!

John Johnston

Fantastic Martin this show does bring back the memories of some great times.

LocosGer

Spot on about Aberdeen David. We met former Aberdeen player Paul Mason before the Hearts Scottish Cup Final. He said that Aberdeen would do nothing until they got the chip off their shoulder about Rangers. 26 years later it's still there. Brilliant memories Martyn.

Michael Thomson

Loving these shows but, Jesus Christ boys, please stop interrupting/speaking over each other. 😂

Ross Matheson

Oh, SOOOOO much this. It doesn't happen as often on the other shows with more than one guest (Eck / Walter / Ally shows) so I've no idea what's going on here. Alan did it the other week when Martyn was telling an interesting story about Graham Roberts and a newspaper headline. I've still got no idea what the conclusion to the story was as it was spoken over. It's maddening.

Ross Matheson

The chat about Gough was interesting. There's absolutely merit in it and that's not to take away from his absolutely glorious standing as a Rangers legend. I started having flashbacks to his complete inability to pass a ball ten yards to another Rangers player. It's not something I've really though about in nearly 30 years when it used to be a running joke. I saw Alan point to John Greig as being different to Gough. It's funny, my Dad never lauded Greig the way he did Baxter, Henderson, Caldow or Wilson. I think there's maybe a lot of similarities between the two of them as leaders and the footballing ability of others in legendary teams.

Ronnie Brown

What a show it’d be if three of the most knowledgable Rangers fans I know didn’t continually try and finish each other’s sentences!

Alan Bradley

Useful feedback and noted. Please accept apologies on behalf of David and Martyn, I’ll have a word with them. Clearly on the very rare occasion that it’s my fault, it’s purely down to high levels of enthusiasm. 😞

Ross Matheson

I think part of it is people being keen to talk about an exciting period. Hopefully it becomes refined as the shows moves on. Got to let Martyn ask his questions first for sure.

Michael Thomson

It’s a very minor complaint. The boys all know the era very well, and are clearly very passionate about it. Looking forward to more episodes for sure.

Martyn Ramsay

Occasionally is fine - crossover is natural in conversation, I don’t want these shows to sound like a job interview - but I’m sure it will settled down and hopefully doesn’t detract from the overall content.

Paul Renwick

Great episode as always. Never knew that Rangers were interested in signing John Robertson in this period. Fascinating to wonder whether Mo Johnstone would have been signed in the summer of 1989 if Robertson had been signed in Autumn 1988 and been successful.

Callum Dinnen

It's kind of been glossed over in the first 2 episodes but what is going on with Derek Ferguson during this period?

Martyn Ramsay

Will get to it in the 3rd and definitely more in depth in the 4th as it kind of comes to a head with the Scottish cup final

Alan Byers

Absolutely loving the series, brilliant work guys.

Paul Dunnachie

The comments about the balance of this team are very well put. They could play football, they passed the ball quickly & accurately… they could also compete physically if that was what an opponent wanted. Even within the lineup, Munro & Butcher and Stevens & Gough linked well.. then Wilkins and Durrant in the centre with Walters and Ferguson wider and a proper striker partnership up front… it just all worked together. Then you have me Brown & Nisbet able to slot in just about anywhere to cover injury & suspension. Patient as well - they continued their passing game all through a game, even if time was against them. Drinkell’s late goal against Motherwell was a good example. Rangers were dead consistent all season - no real drama over the course of the fixtures, a bit like last season actually. Cracking season from a bit of an under-rated side. And they had the greatest training top of all time as well.

Louie Thow, now there's a name from the past, Brian McGinlay, Davie Syme, Mr happy chappy himself George Smith, the guy who booked Gazza for showing him the yellow card that he dropped btw, Kenny Hope, Jim Stewart, those were refs.
