Agree with you David the league is done. This side has shown that last year was the outlier. This side can’t show up and win the big games when they need to. When there is no pressure on them or expectations are low they show up. Some great talent but too many have bottled it time and time again and at this point we need to change it. Won’t be easy and I think we will need to expect some favourites to move on.

William Alston

The vice chairman said at the end of last season that we wouldn't stand still while promoting the share issue, we must have had something there to make a couple of additions. Haven't heard a word from either him or the chairman in a long time. The next AGM should be used to ask these questions even if we start next season well as the board have potentially ruined our 150th year with poor decisions on and off the park

Dylan Brand

We have went from Invincible to indefensible this season. As much as I love players such as Aribo and Kent, we need players that deliver on a CONSISTENT basis rather than have a purple patch for part of a season and then go missing. This has to be the summer where we rebuild, and have to unfortunately say goodbye to some fan favourites in the interest of our club competing at the highest level possible

Mark Rennie

The big talking point is obviously the turn around in points even look at the goal difference in the last 12 games. Ours is +6 theirs Is +23.

Alan Flockhart

Agree with you David, I like Gio and the backroom staff, but I watch us play and I can't see it getting any better. Seems like we are now going backwards. Personally I'd cut out loses and let him go at the end of the season but, in willing to be convinced he's worth keeping.

Craig Newton

Is the board saving up for Xmas!? We needed freshened up & the board failed. Fuck knows where we go from here.. Sigh!

M

Sir Alex Ferguson knew when to get rid of players, regardless of their stature. It's an art in itself. We have stagnated and that's on Gerrard and the Board, not GVB. That said, I've never been convinced with GVB and I'm not convinced foreign managers are a good move in Scotland. He deserves a transfer window and some funds to prove his worth so we should know more by August or September where we are at. Great shout on the bevvy.

John Cox

I think Gio is too nice to be our manager. I remember up at Pittodrie when Kent got sent off, he didn’t condemn but instead called for VAR. Gerrard would have got stuck into Clancy. I don’t feel it’s really changed from there

John Cox

Also - how weak did our subs bench look in attack yesterday? Sakala and Arfield were the only options we had, nowhere near good enough. 3 similar type players on the bench (davis kamara sands) alex lowry would’ve been a more driving option to use. Ramsey was fantastic but can understand why he came off. Need more creativity in midfield rather than going out wide all the time which I feel Lowry offers

Gregg

Personal view is GVB deserves the chance to build his own team. Performances were similar at start of the season - which we all thought and hoped would turn around. He picked the side we all would have yesterday and yet again was down to application - european performances have shown the ceiling of the side but sadly they don’t seem able to lift themselves for domestic football and squad needs freshened up

Martin Mcinnes

The team is to nice, should have had a treble last year, been in the LC final and beyond sight in the league this year, say what you like about Celtic they have an arrogance and self belief see comments from there players in build up, slate Ange if you like but he has installed that. Other than Alfie how many other teams look at our squad and expect them to be in there faces. The state of Scottish footballs finances will see the top team win more doubles & trebles that historically, we stood still, can't happen this summer, for the record i back Gio as for me he's a better manager than Gerrard IMO, just needs a clear out and we go again. Ps a win in Europe on Thursday won't surprise me

David adams

Thanks for that little uplifting segment at the end David , really lifted my spirits 💙

Campbell Maclennan

I think more and more that this is all on the players. We need a squad rebuild and the sale of Kent, Buff, Aribo and Barasic will allow us to do that (I'm a massive Buff fan, but it is time IMO). Then it is all on Gio/Wilson. We have to build the double team that can still compete in Europe and also do the business against the dross at home. The current squad main Achilles Heel, time and again, is breaking the low block. We were amazing at it last season thanks to Tav and Barasic playing out their skin, but in general it's always been a problem for the like of Kent and Aribo etc. This season sadly has been one too far for the likes of McGregor and also Tav and Goldson have allowed the mistakes to creep back in. They'll all go on and have amazing careers but their time here is up. With the right signings and a bit of luck we can still be playing CL football next season. We beat Dortmund FFS....!!!!!!

C. J

I don’t have faith in Gio, personally. This squad should be better than this. His tactical decisions are baffling at times & are reminiscent of the first Gerrard year. Family ties aside, Gio’s resumé doesn’t get you the Rangers job.

Craig Mitchell

I'm not angry, I'm just disappointed. I can't get away from how Celtic looked shot to bits in that second half but still had us at arms length. Even the 3-0 game as well, they dropped off noticeably in the second and we still didn't lay a glove. This is what is worrying me about the manager more than anything. Full confidence we have better than fair chance of getting to a European Semi Final within the next ten days. That's why I'm so conflicted still.

Brian Moore

I do love the way you put it David. Always the voice of reason. “Keep on keeping” 💙

Gary Shaw

I’m in the same boat as you,David….in my heart of hearts I don’t think GVB is going to be the man but the logical part of my brain tells me it’s only fair that he gets a clean slate in the summer and a proper transfer window with a pre season with no disruptions due to International tournaments…

Robert Bradley

Brilliant wee bit at the end there David,. Still on it from yesterday as scunnered. However, summed up my feelings and emotions instantly. Great listen as always🇬🇧🇬🇧

Ally

I really, really hope that Gio can rouse these players and finish this season with a cup win.

Alan Murdoch

I agree with you. I am wholly unconvinced about Gio's ability to take on a rebuild. Happy for others to have a different opinion, but I would go for a change personally.

Allan

The reality is we were 6 points clear and they had no games in hand. We have thrown this title away and that's on Gio and the players.

Piggott

Clear out required, any player out of contract let them go, that will free up funds, gio has to get his own players in if not they will get him the sack

Allan

Player contracts should never have been allowed to get to 1 year left. In this day and age if players don't extend with 2 years left then move them on. At Rangers, especially, we must have a player trading model. I like Ross Wilson, but an apparent apathy to contracts appears to be on him.

Craig Hart

Good stuff David. Respect each other. WATP 🇬🇧

Tamus

James Tavernier you know really is you know the most you know uninspiring you know captain we've ever had. I listen to his interviews you know late at night you know when I'm struggling you know to sleep you know

Gary Shaw

I’m the same and I know this sounds a really narrow minded way of looking at it but when he was here as a player I always got the feeling from him that he would rather be somewhere else and he thought he was a bit above his station playing here(which he probably was tbf)….for that reason,he was never a favourite of mine….Also don’t really think he carries himself like a Rangers manager….kinda going off on a tangent here 😂

Harry Padda

Thanks David the uplifting words at the end.

Ryan Stewart

Can’t really disagree with anything you said David. The league is absolutely done, even if we win the next OF game we would still require them to drop points in 2 matches, and we would still have to win every game. Not happening. On GVB, I’ve said from early doors I’ve never been convinced, despite good early results the performances were never really there for. I don’t see an identity when I watch us anymore, there are no patterns of play at all, we no longer look like a well coached team to me. Ross Wilson for me could leave today, the last few transfer windows have been nothing short of a disaster and the mismanagement of existing player contracts just adds to that. As for the players, other than Tavernier, Bassey, Jack, Lundstram and Morelos there’s not a single player I’d be disappointed to see leave. A major rebuild needed in the summer.

Lynn Houston

Players get managers sacked in football, true story. Domestically we’ve been badly let down, in our 150 th year, champions, its a sore one. We move on, too soon imo to let Gio go. I was not sure initially but he needs a chance. We have issues that’s a given. It sticks in our throat that we haven’t capitalised on their collapse and re build, maybe a bit of comfort there, in that it can be done. Who could’ve written that script? They look spent yesterday because hell was gonna freeze over before they lost that game, on their knees. We could’ve played on and on and not won that game because there is no driving force, no running rapids, no gale force wind, we are a ripple on a pond on a cloudy day. We spoke after the game and my guy said its like when you were bad as a kid your mum would say I’m not angry just disappointed 😔 thats just it ! Anyway I’m in, all in what’s a girl to do 🤷‍♀️♥️🤍💙

Colin Kerr

I think that's one if the worst if not the worst puddledrinkers side I've seen win at Ibrox ,it's embarrassing that they are going to win this league and get automatic entry to the group stages of the CL ,It's criminal from the board and sporting director that they have seen us regress so far so quickly .

Simon Botterill

We effectively need a wider mix of players to compete on two fronts. The league and the European competition are chalk and cheese for us and unfortunately a good proportion of the current squad are not suited for our league longer term. Game management and dark arts are required in this country, we have very few who understand what is required week in, week out in varying circumstances (referring, pitch quality, media coverage etc). Realistically we can't have twenty two + players to cover both competitions to a high level but the mix needs to be addressed. Game management, it was poor under Stevie G and it's no better under Gio. I want some good footballers but who are winners, aggressive and willing to control the narrative by any means. I was ashamed to see the players stroll off at half time whilst Joe Hart is managing Collum into the tunnel. A member of the squad and management should be clear of their roles to drive an outcome.

Lynn Houston

Ooh and well done the women, they’ve been awesome this season. Almost there now.

Robin Balfour

I’m similar but then I also think we need to show we will back a manager otherwise future manager appointments can be more difficult too. Hopefully he’ll show us very quickly that he is the man for the job.

Damien Stubbs

It was nice to hear you sounding like how I feel 😂 Agree with you on Gio, I want to get behind him but Christ it’s hard. Aside from the 50% win record in the league my issue with GVB is that there is very little if anything about him as a personality to like. He gives off zero personality. Aside from when the pressure is increasingly being put on him in recent league post pressers he gets a bit prickly. But there’s never anything identifiable with a fan or any endearing emotion to catch onto. I think that’s something Gerard was unintentionally good at.

Gavin Mackay

The difference between Callum McGregor and Tav as captains was clear to see yesterday. We need a Barry Ferguson-esque character in there.

Gary Shaw

That’s what annoyed me the most….The Japanese boy in the middle of the park couldn’t even manage a jog at the start of the 2nd half and they had 4 players go down with cramp…We definitely look fitter than them but sadly we just don’t have the wee bit of magic that is required in these situations and it has been pretty evident in a number of games this season

Mark

He needs to win the Scottish Cup. Doing so won't render the domestic season as acceptable - but the alternative is that we hand Celtic a treble and we we cannot start next season with a manager in place who has presided over such a capitulation.

Graham Roy

I have my doubts but need to give till end of season to make up my mind! We do need a clear out but for me bear minimum is Scottish cup to at least have a chance of staying! If he can get EL then he does stay but for me all depends on what happens this month!

Gregg

Decrying our captain for a nervous tick when speaking is pretty lame - have you ever noticed Steven Gerrard or Wayne Rooney having something similar?

Tamus

Love a wee Edgar battle cry. 2nd one I've heard in the last 3 days. 💙

Gary Shaw

My crazy, stupid love for Rangers has had me back guys like PLG,Pedro and even Murty so I will back GVB as long as I possibly can but I just get this nagging doubt in the back of my mind that I can’t shake…I’ve had it since he got announced but I hope I’m wrong in the long run.

Gary Shaw

Are you too young to remember Brian “Baresi” O’Neil scoring at Ibrox to end our 44 game unbeaten run?😂

Martin Boyd

We do want to turn into Celtic of the early 90’s changing managers as often as some folk change their underwear. We really need to give the management this summer and next season. Chopping and changing every 6 months is no use.

Neil Johnston

Absolutely needed this summary David. Feel like I've been shot I'm that hollowed out from what has unfolded (deserved or not in some instances) since the early winter break. Going to Braga with my 72 year old father on Wednesday and focus needs to be trying to get a positive result against a good side in European Quarter Final. Either way this will be a memory I can take to the grave which I'm grateful for. No matter what happens this month we need to rally round and focus on the future and toppling them over the longer term!

Gary Shaw

I just don’t get a Rangers Manager vibe from GVB…I remember his first presser were he was asked why he didn’t come down to the dressing room and speak to the players at HT during the semi final debacle V Hibs…He looked lost and looked across to Ross Wilson to answer for him…that set alarm bells off right away especially when you seen the way SG dealt with the bampots in the press…and I hate to say it but even that lots manager takes no nonsense from them and has them squirm into a ball when they try to be smart arses

Ian Donaldson

Thanks David, far from being a rant, your thoughts always clarify my own thinking and I come away from feeling better. I just can’t fathom how the promise of CL football isn’t enough motivation for these players. Money aside the prestige of that should be enough - we were all set to win the league this season, instead we’ve thrown it away to a hastily-assembled septic side who are in most areas inferior to us, player by player. I can’t pretend 10 championships out of 11 for them is acceptable. I can’t get my head around how they can do this with a new side and a nobody manager against a season team. So many baffling aspects of this racing through my mind.

Ian Bone

I have waited 24 hours before posting as I was too angry yesterday. My point is regarding McGregor. I am utterly disillusioned by a section of our support and the reactions and comments made. I’m the first to admit he is not the player he was. I will also accept that he has cost us a lot of goals this season. But before people hammer him as yourselves a few questions. Do you believe he is not trying his best? Do you believe he does not care or is not one of us? He is picked by the manager and goes out and tries to win because he loves the club, as much as we do. Do you think he should tell the manager he does not want to play? It’s the manager’s decision he is in the park. Before making utterly insulting remarks about a guy who is a true legend at our club, stop and think about his contribution. He deserves respect and those who chose to insult him do not understand the values of our club.

William

For me the defense is poor, however, I do feel they are being handicapped by a goalkeeper who simply does not command his penalty box. By making some good on line shot stopping saves is fine, however the the lack of a commanding figure in the box only leads to uncertainty, which can be seen by the atrocious goals being lost, especially the oppositions first attacks on our goal.

Neil 55

I'm the same with GvB. Listening to his press conferences are so lacklustre. There's no passion in his voice.

Derek Maxwell

Cheers for that David. We will be back WATP from Enniskillen N Ireland

Paul Young

I agree with the comments on not trusting this group of players. We’ve lost soft goals all season and are completely lost without Morelos up front. I can only hope this group has something left to win one of the cups but it’s hard to trust them after the results we’ve had. We can only get behind them and rebuild in summer.

Craig Lamont

Hard work pays off, Dreams come true. Bad times don't last..... But Bad Guys do!!!!! ❤🤍💙

Greg

The pods post game yesterday really helped my shitty bus journey home.

Scott

I, like many others, have been soul searching the last 24 hours to try and understand what has happened to us this season. From the highs of last season and such promise in the early part of this season, the last 2 months have been utterly staggering. My thoughts on this are: 1. A lack of depth in key areas. We have known for years that we over rely on Buff. SG knew it, Gio knows it, Ross Wilson knows it. Yet we continue to do nothing about it. I know we have KR in our squad, but he is not a similar player. Yesterday proved that. To fit him in we need to change the way we play. That is on the Board. We don’t have an attacking RM. We don’t have a CM who can pass the ball forward and cut teams open. Its square pegs for round holes. We have a squad of 28 players and if Buff, Kent and Tav aren’t at it, we are terrible. We have a plethora of players to prevent goals, but are severely lacking in players able to score goals. 2. One dimensional build up play. I don’t know the stats (and I am certainly no Adam T in my analysis), but how many times have we seen it this season: Goldson pass to Tav, cross to buff, comes out of box to midfielder, recycle back to Tav, cross. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Same with the left-hand side. Second half against Malmo and yesterday comes to mind. This will work at times because our players are better than most in the league, but when it doesn’t there are no other patterns of play. Very rarely to we cut teams open or play through the middle. When was the last game we showed a variety of build-up play? That is on Gio. If you build a team reliant on crosses into the box and winning second balls you are setting them up for inconsistency. 3. I can’t get my head around the fact we have lost so many points from winning positions. It must point to a lack of game management. So many teams do it against us, but we seem so naive at times. Using the Motherwell game as an example, when we were at 2-1, I could feel something bad was going to happen. I suspect the players felt the same. There was a real nervousness about the stadium. A good team would have managed that out. Players going down ‘injured’, professional fouls, additional subs, taking the momentum out of the game for both teams. We never seem to do it. That’s on the players. 4. Overuse of key players – We are asking the same 4/5 key players to play and play well every week. Buff (42 games), Aribo (46 games) Goldon (49 games) Tav (46 games). This may link back to my first point, but I think we are all in agreement that Aribo and Kent need time out of the team. It gives them a freshness. But we can’t afford to take them out.

Michael Scott

Great update I also have my doubts about Gio and would like to see someone else come in to replace Ross Wilson don’t trust him for the job that’s ahead

Steve Clark

I don’t know why but when the gio bandwagon was gathering pace and he was appointed I went along with it but I had this annoying nagging thought in the back of my mind “I’m not sure about this appointment” I can’t put my finger as to why it was just a gut feeling that I never had when we all jumped on the Stevie g train.yesterday didn’t lose the league it was litany of thrown away points in draws that had screwed our title hopes.i think deep down all of us when ross county got that last Second equalizer and we threw away the two goal lead v Motherwell after Celtic had dropped points, had that feeling that 56 was slipping away and to make it worse it’s our own doing.

Craig millar

I agree with you mate and I love AM, and I don't doubt he personally gives 100%. It's up to the management team and above to recruit and pick the players that play in your system. For 4 years now we've been a play out from the back team, and it's clear AM is uncomfortable in that system (poor distribution with his feet). His inability to deal with cross balls as well has become so apparent that teams now use it as a deliberate tactic against us and its cost us dear on several occasions. No one deserves abuse at any point, AM is a legend, but the recruitment should have been a lot better to his position (and to other positions as well let's be honest)

Craig millar

Good pod guys. I'm torn on gio. I think the point you made on same PPG as Gerrard from this season though is telling. Personally I don't think SG would've seen us out the groups in the Europa, never mind navigate the Dortmund and red star games, so gio does deserve credit there even though it might be difficult to say so just now. He definitely needs his own players and a full window to realise that, I don't think sacking him is an option as we'd be using his own budget to do so, meaning the next guy really has hee haw to work with next year. It's a big summer of recruitment, we still have a crack at the champions League, albeit in the much harder route, I'm holding on that as consolation.

Rona Bluebell

But here are some flowers for David 💐

Graeme Price

If you've ever been utterly starving for a meal and once you get one, usually you can't get up for dessert. That's our team.

Stewart Thomson

This team reminds me of the 1985 Chicago Bears, 3 years of build up to one magnificent season to win the big one and then fall off afterwards and never reach they heights again. Team needs a huge rebuild. We should never have been in the position to have to win yesterday, individual mistakes have cost us all season and put us in this position, not quite sure if its the managers (plural) or the players fault or a combination of both.

David Campbell

GVB needs to go celtic are a win away from a treble let's be honest. Would it be harsh incredibly but we had this exact same situation under Pedro. The board backed him and it set us back years. That can't be allowed to happen again.

David

For me, standards have slipped since the day Gerrard left. Now we have a 50% win rate in 2022. Yes the players are mentally done in, but a good manager could have inspired them to one last big push and Gio hasn't done that. Yes some big nights in Europe but for me the league was always the priority, especially this season. I can't trust Gio/Wilson/current board are going to oversee a proper rebuild on the summer. And let's be honest, if we don't qualify for the CL next season and they win the title next season and get another auto group stage cash cow, then we really will be fucked. Some really big and strong decisions coming up for the board in the next couple of months.

Andrew Hind

My aunt always told me rangers might be down at the moment but we always come back

Alan Cowan

Hi David. I would like GVB to front the management team but I think the support staff employed is way short of the required standard. The guy brought in from Ajax B squad is really an insult to us, we require better and more experienced preferably Scottish or at least British. Good doesn't know our game, he is learning but that curve has cost us the title. Look across the city, Ange kept the Lennon backroom staff , they know what was required and last seasons failure. Losing all out backroom staff really killed us but if we had gone for someone to assist that knew the SPFL, maybe things would have been better. IMHO

Allan Osborne

Before yesterday I thought it was ludicrous to suggest changing a manager so soon into his tenure when he's had so little time to build his own team. But that meek surrender yesterday and then his pathetic replies to valid questions at the press conference has me seriously doubting he can take us forward. Lose the SCSF (we're not winning the EL but please prove me wrong Rangers!) and the pressure to cut our losses will probably become unstoppable. Strange substitutions, or lack of substitutions at times, a poor return in goals, far too many goalkeeping errors which have also led to defensive blunders aplenty, players chucking it when the going gets tough. For the first time I really am doubting he can do it. Anyway, you put it much more articulately today than I ever could David, it all had to be said. Things look bleak but we've been here before and we've come back stronger. WATP 🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Alastair McGeoch

McLeish took over a broken team, won two cups available to him and put a long unbeaten run together. Next season he won a treble with minimal change to the squad he took over. GVB hasn’t been able to get a consistent tune out of arguably still the best team (player for player) in the league. We want GVB to succeed as he is an ex player. Not sure he is going to be a successful manager for us. Needs to win the Scottish cup (or Europa league…😀)

Michael Gray

David you may be able to confirm , but was Douglas Park in favour of both Pedro and then Derek McInnes as manager? I’m not saying if he was in favour of Gio, then we’re stuffed, but who makes the final decision for our manager? Is it now the sporting director, or does it come to an agreement amongst the board?

Doug Young

Great pod, David. At the risk of being one of "those people" I think the writing has been on the wall for a while no. Since before Gio. It was Malmo that set bells ringing for me. Some players (I'm going to say Goldson, Kamara, Aribo, Borna and probably Alfie) expected to be the target of big money moves after last season and all the smoke blown up their arse. Sadly, talent does not mean passion. We've seen it with that Liverpool lad... Ejaria, was it? Great feet, talent, couldn't hack it. We need something more. The two C*llik CBs are bog-standard but they know how to hoof a lame cross away- we don't. It's basic stuff. We have been over-complicating the game all season. I thought Ryan Jack didn't look at it from the off yesterday for whatever reason and he is a heartbeat when we work well. I'm actually looking forward to Soutar coming in- a defender and not much else. That's what we need. Not Goldson's Beckanbauer delusions. As for Gio... I really don't know. It seems insane to me not to be playing young, hungry blood like Lowry in the face of the laboured efforts of Aribo and co. but he won't. But then, Stevie G was allergic to young talent too. I am a big believer in a succesful team having a solid spine. Ours is far too weak at the moment, with only Lundstram really anchoring any solidity. Next game I'll be back with the hope. And the dread. And the "FFS Tav!". And the next. And the next. And the next.

Michael Gray

And never stop the rants David! We’re as much listening for your opinion, not just the news.

Gordon Millar

Thanks David, have said the same to a few of the podders, it must be hard to come on after a massive game/defeat, your rant (as you put it) is well earned as you have retained a sense of balance & perspective over this season but we now know that, miracles aside, our league race is run. H&H is the only place I get my Rangers news, so please keep up the good work, its much appreciated. ...on the GVB question, I have the same fears as everyone else but the reality is he will be given time and with the hopeful sale of some of the playing assets, the funds to build his own team, in that regard we must, IMO, get behind him. Our squad, for various reasons simply wasn't good enough in depth and quality to be successful on all fronts. Lessons from tne past tell us that failure to freshen up a successful squad, rarely leads to continued success. Where we go from here will be a result of our ability to raise funds through player sales, invest wisely in players with the right mentality as much as talent and yes, attracting investment from wealthy individuals, that's just the way modern football works now, sadly. Onwards and upwards, let's put on a show and win the remaining cups on offer. WATP

Al-WATP

You have to ask - if he wasn’t an ex player would he have even been considered ?

Neil Wilson

The summer is going to be the first cycle of the new self sufficient model. The current squad was built at the lower end of the market, relying on us to develop and improve raw potential. With the sales in the summer, it should allow us to shop in a better part of the market with players who are more developed and ready to be stars for us. The management team have not had this before at Rangers, so no one can really say with certainty how it will go. Hopefully we'll have done the necessary due diligence and bring in the best players we can.

Al-WATP

I agree Gary - I don’t think he ever comes across well in a presser

R. Jenkins

I’m off to Mull. Today has been tough. On the way to the ferry I passed a blue painted fishing boat in Oban, The New Dawn, with an rfc sign and the motto ‘loyal and true’ and I lifted my head and felt much better then listened to your monologue. Thank you. That’s who we are- loyal and true. We just keep on coming back.

Leslie White

We’re all still feeling the pain from yesterday was I surprised, No as our tactics at times have bordered on dyer, heart in the mouth every time McGregor gets the ball at his feet for distribution. Heart in the mouth every time a cross ball comes into the six yard/penalty box due to McGregors inability to clear cross balls, don’t get me wrong shot stopper second to none is this like playing with a 50% GK. Then there’s the little matter of training, I always thought that shooting from distance was a training art form, Achenhowie, I don’t think it comes into the vocabulary.

Colin Mathie

We've just handed that lot 40 effin million pounds, yes the management/players rightly should take the majority of the blame, but i hope Ross Wilson is sleeping uncomfortably in his bed at night realising just what a screw up he's made of things as well.

Spoon

Great stuff Davie, just what I needed👍🏻

Laura McCrimmon

I for one want gio given more time especially to bring in his own players. For me this is on the players, these are the same players who under SG failed on many levels, we cannot forget the awful cup runs, the one trophy in how many attempts. Yes 55 was wonderful and the one we all wanted but these players have filed under pressure before and once again this season for me have proved that alot of them just don't have the right mentality or attitude for league games week in week out. This squad of players should be beating Ross County and motherwell regardless of the manager is and for me many of them have just not been good enough this season. SG at the start was arrogant going on about us still sitting top of the league so dropping points shouldn't be an issue and that to me spread to the squad. They became complacent and its bit us on the arse big time. So for me the answer isn't to get rid of gio but give him time, I mean we gave SG plenty time and money so why can't gio be given even a little? As you said over the season we have been poor not just under gio

Jamie Walker

Don’t let it get you down David, just remember that knowing this lot, we’ll probably get a result in Portugal.

We need to remain positive. Can we beat them and will they drop some points in the remaining league games, yes, possibly. Can we then win all remaining league games, yes, possibly. The latter is the bit that is least likely however whilst it is possible we should remain hopeful albeit recent results & seasons may mean we can’t be 100% confident. Let’s be positive till we can’t be. In any case, if we don’t at least beat them at hampden they will officially be the worst fecking team to win a treble, please Rangers do not fucking let that happen!!!

hugh yates

I am at the point gio is under massive pressure now his football at times is a really hard watch and the point swing is enough to get him sacked not sure I would trust him with building a new squad keep up your good work david

John Mclevy

Very well said David, we are all hurting but we will be back, I would like to see Gio given time with his own players but feel the only way he will get time is if we can win either of the cup’s we have left, if we end the season with nothing I believe a change will be made, players will leave in the summer and a new spine of the team is required, hope for a better performance and result on Thursday and try and build from that WATP

Alex Downie

Thanks David, as usual you put a lot of our views and feelings into words. My view is that if we lose the Semi Final, then it will be very difficult for Gio to stay on. Then the question is who do we bring in to replace Gio and does Ross Wilson oversee the rebuild? There will be a huge turnover of players and we really need to get it right.

Martin Davies

John, I think the players are too nice too. Bassey has to take down McGregor. Where was the complaining to the ref when a dozen free kicks went by without a yellow? Or the time wasting in the 2nd half? They employed the dark arts yesterday and as usual got away with it. Gio, the coaches or one of the senior players should have had Aribo by the throat in the dressing room at half time. Instead, I bet they all sat staring at the ground in silence. Enjoy Braga mate.

Martin Davies

Unfortunately I think the players listened to the first 20 mins of Hoggy's hamper instead!!

alisdair arkless

That part at the end of the update summed up being a supporter. We will still be here, the future will be ours and we will stand by the club, why, because it's what we do and what we are. Rangers now, Rangers forever

David Kelly

Some really good, rational points on here and I can’t help but agree with both sides regarding GVB. Can’t actually say what my own opinion is as I agree with both arguments! What I do know is though, and it’s actually something I have been thinking since we first came up even under Warburton, is that it isn’t games like yesterday that cost us. It’s the games against the other teams (and I do think the quality of the other budget spfl teams this season is of an all time low level) and the struggle that we seem to have against grossly inferior players that is continually costing us. It really shouldn’t be hard - sadly celtic have proven this. Even with a major turnover last summer, they are winning this league because of consistency against the junk teams in the league whereas every game for us is a struggle. It’s mind numbing as we literally go toe to toe with Dortmund et al in extremely high quality encounters so it has to be mentality over quality. A major turnaround in the summer actually excites me rather than gives me the fear as it shouldn’t be hard to get players that can win week in week out against garbage.

Martin Davies

I was hoping for a McLeish style reaction from the players. We know these guys have talent, I was hoping a new manager would apply some quick fixes and get the belief back into the players to go on and win the title. Instead, I'm getting PLG and Warburton vibes. A manager with blindspots who watches the same failings week in week out and is unable or unwilling to fix it. Looking at the season as a whole I've really not enjoyed it. I struggle to think of a good 90 min performance domestically. Very few players have got me off my seat - Aribo at times, but not often enough and not when it counts. Kent, Hagi, Roofe all really poor. Morelos was rotten for much of the season too.

Robert Atkinson

I can’t even listen to his pressers, he sends me to sleep. God knows how the players must feel.

Alan Gilmour

I would say judge GVB at the end of the season. The Scottish Cup is now a challenge that is basically "can you pick these lads up and win two very winnable games to at least lift a trophy"? If not then that should tell us all we need to know. However, if we get to the EL semi-final then I think it's worrying to see supporters demanding that a manager who has taken us to a European semi-final or final get the sack. At the end of the season we will have a better sense of perspective.

Robert Atkinson

Ross Wilson has been a failure. Parks financial contribution to the club has been invaluable, but his leadership has left a lot to be desired.

Martin Davies

Just to add, I really appreciate you guys fronting up after results like that. Credit and thanks to yourself David, James on the Chief Exec and Colin and the lads on the Car Pod. I think it helps the healing process listening to shows with guys who are hurting as much as me as opposed to the usual soundbites from the manager and players.

Douglas Innes

I'm actually going to cut GVB a bit of slack here this Gerrards team not his , he'll have saw initially where improvement was needed he even alluded to David's questions in yesterday's after match pressr, can't score at vital times and the conceding of goals , it looks like from the outside he asked for player(s) who'd score so was told we have itten out on loan so take him back and got Diallo and Ramsay in , just because we sold Patterson and got a small amount for gerrard you just can't spend it tou need to create space within the squad and we obviously never got bids on players to do so

Douglas Innes

Said this about this time last year when players get past January window and last 18 months of contract if they don't sign by then they aren't going to , in group chats it was " Tavs signed 16 months to go " but he is the exception not the normal

David Bold

GVB cannot possibly lose his job at the end of this season no matter what happens, when you consider that SG survived his second season which was a complete disgrace. SG built a team of frauds that GVB is stuck with until June. The H&H podders have touched on the legacy question of this squad several times, which is an interesting topic of discussion. For me, now, 1-year, 5-years or 10-years from now, this squad will always be remembered as failures. Rangers win trophies, period.

Gary Shaw

I know he didn’t as that’s what Ross Wilson’s reply was….My issue with it is that GVB looked spooked when the journalist asked the question and looked to Wilson to answer for him…Gerrard would never have looked at his DOF to help him out with a question and it’s nothing to do with the language barrier as he knew fine well what he was being asked

William Findlay

Can Iask the patrons , did anyone see : A bottle being thrown from the Copland road stand , smashing into pieces and the base of it embedding itself into the turf? Or a sceptic employee going down clutching his head and being treated at half time ? I am not condoning these acts if they occurred but I find it difficult to see where these things occurred and added to that the broadcasters would have had this on a loop? I only ask because I have it on good authority that Three people were actually arrested inside Ibrox in the early hours ?

Jack Fletcher

David, your closing remarks reflect exactly how I feel. Disappointed with the result, but I know I always will support Rangers, no matter what. Once a Ranger, always a Ranger. WATP.

Andy Sladen

Fantastic words at the end of the pod David and I have to say it made me puff out my chest again and remember that I am one of the people and wouldn’t change a thing. WATP 🇬🇧🇬🇧

Graham Jones

All the points you made in your self-titled rant were all legitimate, and they are all live. Most of the issues I have are the lack of strategy from the top. The manager fronted up yesterday, and he has to go away and look at what he is doing with the players, and he has to ask difficult questions about all those players. GvB has to be given time, as it’s the fair thing to do. Managers always need time, and Gerrard got three years to get it right. He has to be given the summer window, so long as the rest of the season isn’t a complete disaster. The only thing we can really do is go and win the Europa Cup. Every planet seems to be aligning on us this season for that. Or, is that too optimistic?

David Kiltie

All of us are saying now with the benefit of hindsight that the team should have been freshened up last summer. Interesting that it was Gerrard who vetoed this plan. For him to insist on keeping his team together then leaving not long after seems like the worst of both worlds. The below par o form of Kent, Aribo and Kamara is well documented. As the cliche goes, however, “form is temporary, class is permanent “. I imagine several players have checked out and are looking for a move to England but we should be able to attract decent money to help fund a rebuild. The Patterson sale at least saw the club lay down a marker that we are not going to be short-changed. Ross Wilson is feeling the heat. Let’s hope he pulls some rabbits out of the hat in the summer.

David Taylor

I totally understand those who want a change in management, but I don’t think that he has had the chance to prove himself yet. Firstly, coming in when he did wasn’t ideal, taking over a team who, although sitting top of the league had been massively underperforming from the start of the season. The January window is notoriously difficult to pick up good players, especially coming in just a few months before it. He’s been stuck with a group of players that seem to have run their race and I think we mostly agree that quite a few need moved on. I just hope the raised profile in Europe is enough to see some decent bids come in for a few players. Secondly, when appointing Gio has was almost universally welcomed by the support, but who else was in the running? Lampard? I’m not sure the list of potential replacements would be hugely exciting, also the pay off that Gio and his team would be due would make a massive dent in our finances, and anyone coming in would need decent money to spend. I think Gio needs at least the summer to move players on and bring in his own men. There have been a few games where he’s got it wrong, but in quite a few games, we’ve started well, got ahead and it’s the players that have shat the bed, that can’t all be on the manager.

Gary Brown

As balanced & considered as possible given the circumstances David. Thank you for this and thank you & the other podders for doing post match content - can't have been easy! And as for your very apt & touching summary at the end, first there was Braveheart, now we have BEARheart 👏👏👏👏👏

G Calder

I think we all agree we have a lot of shite bags in our team... How can you expect GVB to get a tune out of them . . He needs to get a chance to get his own players in .

ivor swan

I think if we end up any more that 5/6pts behind at the end of the season with no trophy gio has to go

Ranger1972

Fair comment re the alcohol David but I really feel the club/authorities need to be doing more inside the stadium to combat the drinking and cocaine taking. Genuinely do not enjoy going to ibrox anymore. So many coked up drunken idiots and the bottles being thrown from all 4 stands shows that the problem is widespread. Considering wether to renew for next year as the enjoyment of going to ibrox on a match day isn’t there anymore. Feel for anyone having to take a child into that.

Iain Codona

None of what’s happened is on Gerrard.

Colin Gardner

It's taken me a few days to digest Sundays result and performance. I think I'm reasonably balanced when it comes to analysing us. Firstly after the equaliser I thought we recovered pretty well and still looked the better team. The abuse the players took after they scored was unmerited, actually it was the fans who shat the bed .The atmosphere died and became poisonous towards the players, a trait not uncommon amongst our fanbase. Lording it when everything going well but cant get behind the team when up against it. You only have to look at Follow Follow forum to get a taste of what I mean. The second half was a typical Gerrard/ Gio performance...lots if endeavour but no end product.Everyone is correct that we are now reaping what we sow with poor recruitment in August and January and that needs to be addressed. We still have a massive month ahead with Europe and the Scottish Cup and the team and management need us now more than ever.

Ian Gillies

Joy cometh in the morning.

Graham Miller

Still struggling to understand how we can praise the team and manager so highly after Dortmund and Red Star but want him sacked for an Old Firm loss - mental. Despite our obvious defensive failings which in part stem from our goalie the reason we have dropped so many points is failure to score goals. I love Alfie but he just doesn’t score enough goals. Also the way we play with him up top on his own prevents us from having other proven goal scorers in the team. Rangers don’t need a Ronaldo just a Kris Boyd poacher. So recruitment is again the issue. But we must give Gio a chance next season. PS we could albeit a very big could win the EL and I’d take that over the league every day if the week

Tom

Only just listened to this, I wasn't even angry after that result, more disappointed with knowing what this team are capable of and for them to turn in a performance like that just left me feeling empty.
