Feeling Blue returns with the most recent game to date that has been covered on the series.

This time it is Grant who joins Andy and Ross for a therapy session to talk about one of the final games at Ibrox before the COVID shutdown – a night that saw tensions and anger boil over when Rangers lost at home to bottom of the league Hamilton Accies.

Thanks again for the therapy session boys. Same time next week 😂 In seriousness, as we spoke about the light that came out of this game is the desire to not let it happen again which did lead to 55

There has been a myth built up regarding Gerrard's first two seasons in that we collapsed. I think people just look at the fact we were neck and neck with that lot going into the winter break both in 2018/19 and 2019/20, but if you look at our results first half of 2018/19, we were massively inconsistent. Understandable given the shit show Gerrard had to inherit. Our title challenge fell away because we kept spilling points, whereas Celtic who had struggled as well for form early doors, then went on a run of 7 or 8 wins in a row after the winter break. Second season was the real collapse for me. We only dropped points away at Tynecastle and Pittodrie pre winter break. Lost the first Old Firm, so only 7 POINTS dropped from August to December then we fell off a cliff. Even Andy Halliday has been asked about the drop off in form and couldn't offer any reason or logic behind the poor results early 2020.

Thanks Johnnie, it's always good to get these games/moments off your chest as it makes us all appreciate and savour the good times even more

100% agree. We didn't collapse in 18/19 - we were inconsistent going into the winter break, and stayed equally inconsistent after it. What changed was Celtic, who had also been inconsistent (losing 4 out of their first 20 games) going on a run of something like 8 wins and a draw from 9 games post break, which allowed them to pull a gap and keep us at arm's length. As for 19/20, the answer is simply that we stopped scoring goals. Statistically the performances were absolutely fine, the team as a collective just lost their shooting boots, while at the same time Celtic were on the hottest of hot streaks (they were scoring with something like 20% of their shots on goal which is just a ludicrous conversion rate.) Why we suddenly couldn't score goals is the big mystery.

I’ve spoken to a current player about this before and the only answer he was able to provide for the post winter break form was that “they just kept winning”. This was always a squad that was most likely to win a title from a big lead and not in a tight battle.

Grant Sneddon

One of the reasons why I plumped for this game in the end Martyn was the psychology behind the team and how we ultimately could of seen the decimation of that squad

Morelos' lack of scoring any of the many chances he got is the answer to that. Last league goal Boxing Day! 12 league goals all season. Similar woes in 18/19 but down to suspensions, 18 goals in league for the season, getting close to almost a goal a game he actually played in. SG & co realised too reliant on him and his ratio not being enough / marked out the game. Hence the 'new' 'link up play Alfredo from 20/21 to add a new dimension to his game. Immediately obvious in the pre-season games, the opener at Aberdeen a perfect example, sitting deeper, laying ball off & playing in Kent instead of being higher up pitch, turning & buffalo-ing on his own vs entire defence. Scored less personally but was more reliable & effective for the team. Always bags more than his fair share in Europe, super ratio, and there's been plenty said recently about the reasons why Euro games suit our team / style / tactics better than the League.

A collapse after a winter break. Sounds increasingly familiar.
