Where Italy had provided Rangers with some regeneration and cohesion during the last two summers, in 1990 it provided only the signs of trouble to come. The World Cup blues, the troublesome integration of Hateley and some transfer and tactical scatterguns are all discussed as Martyn, David and Alan start the journey through arguably the most dramatic season of the era.

I met Roxburgh once, as part of a group of kids when I was about twelve. He seemed every bit the stick-up-his-arse schoolteacher that he has been painted in the media. Craig Brown on the other had was brand-new.

Thanks again Martyn, David & Alan. Like David, I am absolutely LOVING this series. And it does convey the sense of feelings from the time (& brings back the memories / rekindle the feelings for this aging Bear!) An excellent chronicle for younger Bears to learn about probably the most dynamic period in club history and definitely a legacy series. Pair it with the old VHS season review tapes and you'll be practically (re-)living it!!😄👍 Ally - Re Roxburgh. There's a big difference between management & leadership. And only leadership truly succeeds, especially in football. Re Hateley. At the time I reckoned Souness wanted Ally replaced with 'his own man'. Principally because Ally was 'more' Rangers than Souness, been there longer, more affiliation with fans, etc and Souness wanted zero challenge to being THE full focal point - as seen with Roberts, Butcher (next episode!) and borne out as The Judge takes to the bench! Admiral - Unusual watermark / woodgrain design I wasn't immediately in love with at launch but it didn't take long. The away is a thing of beauty. Living in London and with the new Adidas tops I gifted both my Admiral H&A to my flatmate, a Plymouth born & bred maniacal Argyle fan but earned his gifts becoming a rabid Rangers supporter during The Battle of Britain, CL campaign & beyond. Meant to replace them at the time, didn't get round to it - which I regret to this day!! The only H&A tops from 1984 until now that are missing from my collection 😥 Thanks again for this wonderful series Martyn & all the contributing podders. Enjoying it immensely and always look forward to the next episode.

Martyn, Alan, David; just round to listening almost a fortnight later, but what a fantastic episode. I think my favourite discussion yet in this series. Probably fair to say the vast majority of Rangers fans were still big Scotland fans during Italia 90. I know I was. Great discussion about this being the watershed in transitioning towards football as we know it today. Reflecting back as an adult around the discussion and not an emotional 16 year old as I was at the time is really challenging my memories of how it was. If you’d asked me where Gough played before this demise of Butcher I’d have said right back! Is re-enlightening a word?! There is clearly some painstaking and dedicated research going on and it’s to be applauded! I had no idea it had been over 50 years since Rangers had won the title 3 times on the spin! Like most, I was astounded at the signing of Kuznetzov, with his reputation at the time. I really think he could have played for any side in Europe back then, including the top Italian teams. What a loss. I was at the season opener (one of only a few games as I got a Saturday job that year) and remember the negativity surrounding Hateley. I think his natural confidence in his ability was taken by us straight up Presbyterians as being arrogance and I don’t think that helped his cause with getting the fans on board, but we certainly warmed to him as the season progressed. Looking forward to catching up to last week’s show now!!

I had forgotten big Derek Whyte scored against us. I grew up in Cumbernauld with him and he travelled to Ibrox with me a couple of times in the early 80s
