As promised, Hoggy is back with Cammy to run the rule over players that are likely to leave this summer, just how much we're looking at and levels of investment required / key areas of focus in the squad.  It's crystal clear it's a key summer!

The boys also continue on your post Europa League questions - before their hard stop at time of recording for the Champions League Final!!

If you want to come on the show - you know what to do.  Email hoggy@heartandhand.co.uk.

Enjoy x

Thanks for the season boys always enjoy these shows

If we have a rebuild this big we will be back in exactly the same place 3 years from now … just another reason why the last 2-3 windows have been utterly dreadful. The trading model is all well and good but the reality is that the teams that utilise it best are generally not teams that are expected to win their domestic championship and have a euro run every season. Sustainability is necessary, but the point of the team/club is winning trophies not being a market leader in developing and selling young players.

Has our other centre half's had a proper go on our right-side due to Goldsons " ever presentness " ??, if Bassey goes id expect us to sign a centre half with Borna continuing at LB and possibly extend his contract with us , I find the valuations on our players with 12 months left quite high and I think Rangers should consider any offer for players in that situation ...... the fact that Scott Wright seems to providing " something " makes me think Diallo won't be back but id expect us to sign an attacking right-sided player with a history of scoring goals

Scott Watson

I think Cammy put it very well - if a player wants to engineer a move, they will do so one way or another and it's really not in a club's interest to try to prevent it. Look at Mbappe, Pogba, or closer to home, Edouard for examples of what happens if you try to fight this We really don't have a choice about whether we are a trading club or not - our place in the footballing financial food chain means that we are. The only choice we have is in how smart we are in dealing with that reality and, to your point, how we reinvest in a way that minimises the impact on the pitch Although we are back to winning silverware, we are really still in the boot-strapping phase of getting the club into a sustainable state. The sale of Bassey and/or others this summer MAY mark the transition out of that phase but it'll probably be 2 or 3 seasons before we can really judge this

Andrew Ewing

Did you mention Hagi? Can’t see any teams buying him due to long term injury but I think we missed him in the second half of the season. Always gets an assist or goal. I would give Ramsay a go and swap him with Lowry so each gets 1 game a week.

Hoggy & Cammy - Noticed that all major finals in Europe & Premier League play-off final were won by a score of 1-0, were we perhaps a bit naive in not shutting up shop when we went 1 up in the 2nd half in Seville.....apologies, I know I need to move on this is part of my therapy 🤪

Gary Brown

Enjoyed the show, thanks guys. We should have no fears re Jon McLaughlin - he's the bedrock our cleansheet record was built on at the start of season 20/21, played most of them and the whole defence looked more at ease in this season's Cup Semi & Final at corners & cross balls.

Cameron Bell

Good point! We probably were slightly naive not to do it but it felt like a “1 goal game” and as we’ve said the manner in which we conceded that goal was very very poor.

Good show kept me going for a bit of my run today. I get the full playing selling model but we need to keep our best/better players, it’s perfectly normal to allow a few players to run down time on there contracts. Like imagine if we’d have let goldson go in January or last summer we wouldn’t be getting to the EL final on the back of FH/Simpson etc. gio will be given money to rebuild but it can’t be a full squad job. If Bassey goes then so be it he’s our most valuable player at the moment, can’t be most of the attacking players.

Christopher Fair

On the hypothetical basis that Rangers did get Ramsey and Bale for £100k a week…. Do you not think the shirt sales and sponsorships would pay for that by itself and therefore worth a punt for two players of that quality? I think Itten was brought back as we only had two strikers and one is Roofe who can’t play three games in a row without missing 8. I think Gio wanted to have a look at him and use him as back up which is fair enough. Also I think the fact he wasn’t in the Europa league squad played a factor in him not paying up top at the end of the season. I disagree with the McGregor thing about leaving as it’s the same as the Davis situation. Why wouldn’t you want shagger as a back up and helping the younger guys out in the same way as you want Davis to? Do you think we could get a better number 2 than Alan McGregor for a year or so?

Ross Mcfarlane

We’re kidding ourselves on if we think anyone is paying £12m for aribo with a year left on his contract imo. Half that is more realistic.

Tamus

Aaron Ramsey - No thanks, quite possibly the worst Rangers signing of all time. Dan Eggan and Daniel Prodan provided more. An absolute shambles by Ross Wilson

Scott Watson

David said on an update a wee while ago that he was reliably informed it would not be possible to get more than £10m for Aribo due to contract clauses

Scott Watson

The problem with this is that for the most part, we CAN'T keep our best players as long as we want - they are going to leave sooner or later because of finance or location or family or whatever. There will be one or two exceptions like Tav (and honestly, I think there is half a chance Alfie might go the same way) But most players are leaving sooner or later, and will need to be replaced sooner or later. The difference is whether we cash in and have money to replace them or we don't Betting the farm by keeping players in the hope that a european run can make up for the lost revenue of player sales is not a direction we should even contemplate

Pedro

Pie in the sky about Bale and Ramsay! No chance either would fancy it imo

Russ

Honestly I'd be surprised if we sold half of the players with a year left because they're all pretty much first team players or first team + the bench, especially with the ucl qualifiers coming round soon. Bassey + one or two would be more than enough I think (as well as the out of contracts freeing up wages).

Steven L

Can’t? Why can’t we? now I fully understand family reasons etc and I genuinely have no problem with players leaving that is up to them. I just think as a club we can’t let our best players leave all at once or it’s this continual story of rebuilding from scratch, yes there will be some work required. Time will tel what will happen. No one really knows until said players are away or not.

Brian McLatchie

Gents my view on a few players discussed Steve Davis for me offering him another year a no brainer, won't play every game and he will be smart enough to know that but likely to be available for more games than Ryan Jack Bassey agree if the kind of money being floated is there we have to take it, but if it ends up just speculation we need to do all we can to extend his contract Agree re reliability concerns on Roofe, Helander but those concerns need to stretch to Ryan Jack as well, all players we need but from an availability perspective we can't carry all three of them.

Laura McCrimmon

My view on Davis is that he can still offer so much to the squad in terms of we have so many promising youngsters that we need experience at the club to help nurture them and I can't think of anyone better than Davis doing this. I think offering a year deal really is a must for us. I also think as a player he can still offer alot in certain league and cup games. As we seen how many games we had this season we need a big squad to manage all these games and again I would prefer to have an old head helping rather than someone else.

John Palmer

No thanks to Lewis Ferguson, we're better than that level of player and he isn't what we need or looking for.

Craig McCrimmon

Feels like a summer we've not seen since Walter left for Everton and the 9 in a Row squad broke up.....we had a dutch manager in place and went on to win a treble. Great pod guy's fair assessment on the surgery required within the squad. I feel we need to if possible pay Bassey the cash required to extend his deal and look to sell him on next season losing Goldson, Bassey, Barasic, Balogun and Helander feels like a massive stretch we can't fill. 2 others who we should look to pay the going rate is Morelos and Kent......... I'll be honest Alfie leaving gives me the fear I don't disagree that if he goes we may need to change style I feel like we showed that we can do that particularly latterly in the season with Kent Diallo/Wright and a false 9.... In summary Bassey/Kent & Morelos to me feel absolutely key if we want to continue with our wish to be considered a club worthy of the European stage. Lewis Ferguson to me is a player we should consider if the price is right we also need good Scottish players who can do it in the SPL I think you've seen it with Jack initially and also Wright we seem to turn our noses up at Scottish players coming in to the club but those guys have shown that with better around them it's absolutely the market we should be in... Let's trust the process whatever happens and hope the club back GIO in the manner deserved and required.

Craig McCrimmon

Looking forward to getting on the show over the summer 🔴⚪🔵

Can we realistically sell more shirts than we are currently? Do we have the supplier that could deal with the extra demand? I think it's a valid question but we haven't got the infrastructure for it to apply to us. Completely agree with your summary on Itten but think Gio decided quite early he wasn't up to it, even domestically. Personally can't see Mcgregor being happy to be back up, and even if he was he would end up casting too big a shadow on whoever was ahead of him
