Simon returns with his favourite subject - Transfers!

Andy and Zander join the ride as they discuss the contract renewals of Steven Davis and Connor Goldson as well as possible departures at the club.

The lads also investigate a link with Colombian forward Mateo Casseria and how they’d like to see the squad shape up over the coming months.

Lay aff the drugs guys. Load of pish 🤣

Scott Watson

Thanks for the show guys, going to be an interesting summer Couple of questions I'd be interested on your thoughts on How do you think we SHOULD approach our business this summer when we don't know at this point if we're getting Champion's League group stage money or not? And possibly different, how do you think we WILL approach it? How long do you need to wait before you can really assess the success of a transfer window? For example... You spoke about Lundstram - by the time of the first window after he signed it looked like a total flop but by the time of the second, looks like a fantastic signing Bassey is now being discussed as setting club and national transfer fee records but two windows after he signed there was no real sign of what was to come, and even after three windows I don't think any of us were expecting to see him progress in the way he has in the last few months Wright is a less dramatic example but in my view has played his best football in the last few months - three windows down the road from him signing

Scott Watson

Come on pal, keep it polite and constructive aye? If there's something you disagree with, start a discussion on it

Scott Watson

I'd also encourage everyone to have a look at Patrick Caskie's "recruitment plan" on twitter. He's put a phenomenal amount of effort into putting it together and it's a great way to pass a bit of time in the football drought season

Simon H&H

Ideally we need to kick start the selling model that we done with Patterson in January. Basseys value is at its highest point it will be given length of time left in contract. Basically, Bassey has to be sold this window and at least half that money used wisely to reinvest. Of course, we may have to look at any bids for Aribo also with less than a year on deal.

Good show guys. Even though I was nearly sick at the suggestion of Bruce Anderson. Few names I thought I'd put your way and my personal thoughts on them joining. Regan Charles-Cook. Had a fantastic year at Ross County and has proved his worth in domestic football. Could be someone we could utilise when Kent goes through a dip of form. Worth the gamble for me. Jordan Ayew. Out of contract at Crystal Palace and I've always thought looked a decent player. Hard working and would definitely score goals at our level. I'd argue he has shown enough as Premier League player to cut it in the Europa League if that is where we lie this season. David Brooks. Wish him all the best in his recovery from illness. Looked a really special player before his time out and I'd back him to come back stronger. Slightly ambitious but one I'd love to see if possible. Juan Mata. This is the extremely ridiculous suggestion (you always need one) but a player I think would relish coming to play games at a huge club for a year. No real need to move his family out of Manchester either. Will depend on his offers but I don't think he has struggled with injuries over the past few years. Would love to see it. Kevin Nisbet. The last one. I was keen on seeing Nisbet come in last summer and if the rumours are to be believed, Gerrard was keen on him too. I think he has shown enough domestically that he could do a job for us. Link up play is good. Physical. Good in the air and has shown the finishing touch in Scotland. If Hibs lower their demand, I'd be happy to see him at Ibrox. Look forward to hearing you all laugh at some of these names. Cheers guys!

Simon H&H

Some of the names we seen on that FF thread were comedy gold. 😃

I will get stick for saying this I'm sure, but have to say I cringed at the 'french-african type' midfielder bit at the end their guys. You had already kind of got it across what you meant with lundstram style, powerhouse.

Callum Dinnen

Sakala chat is wild. Free transfer, can play across the front line and actually has an excellent goals to minutes ratio given his lack of starts. He also makes things happen because for all his flaws he is always a willing runner and causes full backs problems because he doesn't start passing the buck if he's having a bad game. There's rawness to coach out of him, but he's exactly the sort of player every squad needs. Selling him doesn't make sense.

Ross Chalmers

Just another comment while it’s on my mind. I think we MUST sell Calvin Bassey this summer. A player I think we can recover from and a bid of 25+ million is far too much to turn down.

Russ

Agree with the Ross Stewart discussion, proven in the league, still fairly young and ticks the registration boxes. One of the previous comments is right about Caskie's plan, great read and when you see the squad on paper in their roles you realise how big it is. Decent listen.

Callum Dinnen

On the Ross Stewart rumour - we have Arfield, Souttar, Jack and Wright who are nation trained. We don't need to entertain squad players who happen to be Scottish because our quota is filled.

Russ

I know what you're saying but it's only really since Gio has come in that we've had some decent Scottish talent in numbers in the team. It sounds Brexit but if they're good enough then why not sign them, I'd argue that Ross Stewart was a better player at Ross County than Scott Wright at Aberdeen when we signed him. I'd still have Nisbet as the backup tho haha.

Callum Dinnen

If Stewart is good enough (and he won me a fair few points in fantasy football a couple of seasons ago) I've got no objections but we shouldn't be signing players because they're Scottish as there's no quota to fill. We need 4 club trained and 4 nation trained players and we have the latter quota filled, so signing Stewart serves no purpose from that perspective unless we get rid of Jack or Wright. So for me it comes down to footballing ability, and if he's not good enough for Europe then what's the point?

Russ

Aye that's fair enough but it shouldn't really be about quotas and honestly we've got players who can't perform consistently domestically but tear it up in Europe, we're desperate for someone who could bully the fodder in the league. I'm not 100% sold on Stewart btw, but I can definitely see the positives, or potential positives.

Simon H&H

Just my own personal preference mate. No harm intended. Those are the midfield types I’ve admired down the years. Technically excellent but able to get about all over the park also

Neil Wilson

I think its likely that Katic, Simpson and Helander will move this summer, so we'll need another CB. Given the prices mentioned, Bassey will be sold as well, so we'll need a left back. I wonder if this will affect whether we sell Barasic or not. Lowry and McCann will come into the first team squad and play some games. Given his injury record, I would think Roofe may go as well. Itten's left, so a replacement will be needed for him. We need a Forward Right / Right Winger. So with that in mind, we'll need: CB, LB, AMC, RW/FR and ST. If Aribo, Kent and Morelos don't sign new deals, we'll have to sell them, so replacements will be needed.

Brian Rae

Sunderland has an additional year option on Ross Stewart and I'd imagine they'll activate it. Also. FF is not a good source to spark depate.

Andy Barnett

We covered his goals to game ratio, his rawness, his positive attitude, and his flaws. Pretty much everything you’re alluding to.

Simon H&H

Total agreement. If we are to get seriously investing in the squad someone has to go soon

Greg

Itten didn't take the huff, he was bang out of form, confidence and was recovering from covid.

Graeme Burns

Choose one player from each team we played in Europa League knock-outs that you’d sign given the chance:- Dortmund: Bellingham (CM) Red Star: Ivanic (LM) Braga: Carmo (CB) Leipzig: Nkunku (CF) Frankfurt: Trapp (GK)

Paul

Good show. Don't think we need any inexperienced young players on loan. We need to start using our own youngsters

Colin Mathie

Its not gonna be Gio's team next season either if we keep re-signing every bugger.
