After a rocky start, Walter Smith's Rangers had finally clicked into place with key players producing the goods at both ends of the field. David and Alan are with Martyn this week to look at three big league wins away from home and the increasing power of Rangers off the pitch as the gap was starting to become a chasm.

My season ticket is in the Sandy Jardine rear & I love it. Have sat in the club deck a good few times. The view of the game is brilliant, however if you’re too far up your view of the rest of the stadium is restricted. Plus I always feel the atmosphere up in the club deck isn’t as great. I dare say European and Old Firm games the atmosphere in the club deck will be as good as anywhere else in the stadium right enough

Jamie Walker

Genuine laugh at David’s 8 cans of Skol story.

Alan Bradley

Those young trendy guys Jamie. What was wrong with the Four Crown and Tennent’s Lager combination in The Derry watching the Queens Eleven?

William Ross

Cassidy was a clown, but he was right on one thing ibrox stadium is land locked and successive labour and snp administrations have done their best to keep it that way

Ralph Wiggum

Watched the 6 in a row season review the other night and it had Murray on talking about filling the corners of Ibrox in to take the capacity to 59,000.

Tom McDavid

There was genuine moaning amongst some of the support about the manner of our regular victories at Parkhead. They wanted us to go there and “attack” which given the average run of Ibrox results against them was crazy.

I wanted to go see Morrissey (I was young and he wasn’t a fascist yet) and Alex agreed to take me. Again ‘nae pints’ but he handed me four bottles of Becks to drink on the train. It takes 30 mins from Kilwinning to Glasgow. We also got to town at 5 (gig at 8) so by the time he came on I was absolutely flying. But hey, nae pints 😂

I'm obviously biased but I genuinely feel that The Bill Struth Main Stand is the most aesthetically pleasing in world football. The only other structure to come near it (for me) would have been the East Stand at Highbury, which has thankfully been partially preserved. Archibald Leitch was a genius imo.

Gordon Mac

My Tim mate said "Great idea at Parkhead, they have started selling Pot Noddle's that's a cracking idea" Me "We have started selling steak sandwiches in the new Club Deck" Genuine conversation and very much sums up where the clubs and supporters were at the time

That was a great discussion before settling into the on-pitch matters. By now going to Pittodrie and not having to listen with the metaphorical peering through fingers was a huge step forward for me, having written off any trip there for most of my time following the team. That victory though was something else; 3 goals up there and followed up with 3 at the piggery too. I don’t remember being worried in the slightest that Hearts would sustain their challenge. As an adult I’ve always been a bit of a pessimist for Rangers games, but this season as a 17 year old I was just confident we would win all the time and I never though at any time we wouldn’t prevail in the league at least. It was a great time! Have great memories of that match at Tynecastle as it was my first away trip (other than Hampden), but my dad and I were in the Hearts end after a mix up with tickets bought by a family friend in Edinburgh (my dad saw an old rangers supporting school pal along from us and after an involuntary slight jump at the only goal of the game the man next to me said “I take it you’re happy about that too!” About 20 Rangers fans were ejected around us for not being so discreet; there were a lot of us in there behind the goal at the back of the terracing). By the way, memory does not trick you here, the game was absolutely dreadful. My dad and I also turned up for a match around the opening of the club deck and couldn’t believe it was sold out. We tried the age old trick of jumping the turnstile however as part of the renovations full height turnstiles had been installed and we got knocked back from every one we tried! Looking forward to the extended Scottish Cup discussion too 👍

Agreed. My season ticket is in the Club Deck, but just a few rows from the front and the view is amazing. I moved around the ground in the Warburton Championship season and I don't like the upper part of the Club Deck because you can't see most of the ground.

Callum Dinnen

My theory is that as stratospheric as we're going at this time, the competition is Scotland also gets killed stone dead by the Taylor Report which makes titles 6 and 7 (even more) inevitable. Edit: and you've literally just said this.

Callum Dinnen

Also, I seem to remember in one of the old season reviews (might have been 88/89) where the Club Deck concept gets introduced and Murray mentions the new capacity being 52,000 once it's done. I'd be interested to know how that changed because the capacity was only mid 40s until the corners got filled in 1995/96.

Was at the 3-2 game at Pittodrie, in the beach end , it was absolutely superb ! Huge turnaround to go there and win like that after taking 5-1 beatings etc in the not too distant past. McCoist and Hateley were some partnership and were unstoppable that night. Another superb listen as always !

Callum Dinnen

Seeking out footage of McCoist's goal is proper childhood nostalgia btw, was one of my favourite Rangers goals as a kid.

Grant Sneddon

Do you think a big part of the confidence shown by both Mccoist and Hately this season is that they knew that the other would pop up with a goal? We've all seen strikers where they are visibly worried about missing chances incase more didn't come along.

Another great episode. Thanks again Martyn, ably assisted by Alan & David, thanks lads. Great discussion & views. Its amazing what you can forget - Celts for Change actually induced a splutter of coffee and LOL guffaws from me. "FFS, aye, remember that lot !"🤣 Its fair to say a significant cost of the club deck arose from the bespoke design & built to integrate / merge it seemlessly with the design of the Main Stand. And I remember something about the steel structure being the first / largest / longest of its kind too. A bespoke personally tailored Savile Row suit compared to their off the peg Primark-dise This series has got me inspired to re-watch the old season review 'tapes', which I converted to dvd a while back. It's also inspired me to try and get the dvds to avi/mp4 - IF 🤔 I get that done they're very transferable and I'd be happy to share with other Patrons. Thanks again Team Dominant. I'm eagerly looking forward to the next episode. 👍

Martyn Ramsay

Thanks for the kind words as always Gary. I think all of the season videos from the era are on YouTube mate.

Great show as usual guys. I thought that was my dishwasher then near the end
