Any news on Kent, David? Apparently hasn’t appeared back for pre season and is AWOL?

Alex Downie

Have seen Zak a few times for Millwall, still a few years for him before he gets first team squad. Hopefully he can make it with us.

Why are we so skint? I understand contract renewals cost alot, but we had champs league money last year, sold gerrad and Patterson for cash, it just seems there is no money in the club, having a place on teh Gers board comes with a cost you could call it a membership fee and that fee is to put cash into the club, I laugh at this self sufficient club idea, all the fans pay season ticket cash, they even pay my Gers memberships, do teh board pay memberships fees, I hope so..

It sure if it was your sound or because you’ve had covid but you were sounding a lot like Hugh keevens there 😅😂

There is a lack of transparency which is becoming worrying. The idea that all our business has to be ultra secret enables the potential hiding of a myriad of things. The idea that we have to be an information black box in order to stop being gazumped for the kind of players we seem to be in the market for seems a little far fetched. The Mygers money was supposed to go directly into the transfer budget pot. … I wonder what the current balance is?

Re the merch situation: for years I've collected Gers mugs and have dozens. Over the past few years, zilch, apart from Europa final - which arrived chipped! Instead, I've created my own, using pics of Gers players, Ibrox etc from the internet.and downloading to a company that creates mugs. The club is missing out badly by not producing such beloved tat.

I loved the Follow Follow alarm where the doors opened and the song played I was recently thinking of this chuffed to hear it mentioned 🥹

Could some of the issues around the club bot selling signed pictures or signed posters of players is down to players wanting a percentage of the money made due to image rights. I used to love buying the wee pen pictures with the signatures. Imagine bringing out a book/folder each year that could hold the pen pictures for fans to collect with the signatures. Even bringing a different one out each week. I would have a set for myself. My 2 kids would want their own sets. There is money to be made there.

Thanks for the update David. The cynic in me thinks this merch issue is a deliberate ploy - a t-shirt, bank or pencil case is cheap, low profit and liable to quench the thirst of a bear cub (for a time!). Only have the expensive kit & training gear and its the only stuff you can buy - and who is gonna turn down an eager bear cub desperate for 'something' Rangers! The training kit is always limited numbers of stock, so us lot need to buy, sharpish, or miss out having it as it never appears again. Manufacturers have improved pay & conditions for far east staff but the extra pennies spent there are passed on but in pounds to the consumer here.

The club have been silent on the merch situation. They need to come out and tell us what is going on. They’re missing out because of Castore, and the fans are in the dark. What about Bisgrove? Is he not available to fill us in on what’s happening? Or is he still miffed with us for putting the breaks on the match in Australia? All everyone wants is information on when we can expect the stores to be stocked.

It’s becoming more obvious that fan media is being used as a mouthpiece to be continually fed a line by the club.

Heart and Hand

Well...yes! We ask them questions then tell you what they say. That's sort of how media works! If it turns out to be bollocks, we say so. I'm not quite sure what the line was today though given I moaned about lack of signings and gear in the club shop though - can you elaborate?

Its actually a sign we have healed, if we forget Murray debt from overspending. The current board are fans who have put in their own millions not as debt which it could be but as shares they own. Its hardly a great business investment. They overspent every year we came back up particularly to get 55. And a European final. And retain all our top players. We now need to bring in more money before buying big. Seems very fair to me.

Tommy

I think it’s becoming clear that our activity in the market is dependent on player sales so hopefully big Joe’s departure will see some long awaited reinvestment And hopefully we know ASAP the status of Kent, Morelos and Bassey as we’d rather move forward now than have drama in late August leaving us with not enough time to replace.

Tommy

With regards to the discussion of product in store. My background is in product licensing so I have a good understanding of the process and can agree the current situation isn’t acceptable. There’s maybe 3 possible explanations (or a combination of them!) 1 - Castore have full retail rights and thus have an element of control of what is sold. Their priority is understandably on Castore product and will want this to be central to the store operations. They’re not going to waste time making ducks and products that aren’t on brand for them. However they may be pushing back on the club from broadening their range with concerns it’ll cannibalise core kit and training product sales. 2 - There’s something clearly going on with Ashley. The St Enoch store and site operated long enough to suggest that there are certainly some IP ownership questions needing answered. If Ashley or Elite didn’t have these rights then essentially it’s counterfeit product and it would be shut down. The fact it wasn’t and continues to operate suggests we’re not in full control of our IP. This prevents us from licensing tat. 3 - Our licensing team are not doing their jobs. Jigsaws was the example mentioned. A very easy product category where product can be produced for kids and adults with relatively low MOQ’s. There’s no reason why we don’t have more ‘tat’ like this, and if the first two explanations are wrong then it leaves this as the only outcome. The sooner our retail operation matures and we move to a more established sportswear partner and ideally a more reputable/experienced retail partner like Fanatics then it will help with the normalisation process.

I get that, and the current board have done an excellent job in turning the club around and putting back on a level playing ground, but my concern is where we are going not where we have been, if you look back all the time you'll never move forward, for all I know we are preparing a marquee signing and everything will be great..... But I don't think that's the case, the issues with contracts and players in there final years really annoys me, we keep saying these guys like kamara, aribo,Morelos with so much money so if we want to keep them we've gotta pay them like a 10-20million pound player, I'm not sure this is the right model, I say sell them and bring in scouted replacements ,
