Shane and David had to get together on a Friday because the SPFL continues to shoot itself in the dick when it comes to broadcasting contracts. The pair lay out what this new deal would actually mean; how it stacks up to comparable leagues (very poorly); and what should actually happen in negotiations that don't need to be finalised for nearly another three years.

Just piss poor management making piss poor decisions.

Martin Boyd

Doncaster getting his pension topped up? Useless doesn’t cover the incompetence shown by these clowns.

Martin Davies

Sadly, our smaller clubs will be pressured into accepting this deal on the basis that it provides a form of longer term security. All whilst they leave stands empty and lose revenue because they don't want to sell tickets to Rangers supporters.

Some of the SPFL jobber clubs commissioned a study looking at routes to improve income streams - pretty pointless if we’re about to commit long-term to Sky. Time for the diddy clubs to finally do something relevant & reject this pitiful proposal! I’ll wait! 🙄🇬🇧

George Higgins

Excellent pod. Now let’s see the clubs act.

Great content 👍🏻 Conceivably, we should look at putting forward a package to buy TV rights; might have to include them tho! based on what’s being offered this investment would be around £20m each - & then re-sell to whomever at correct market value. OF games must be worth worldwide £5-£10m or more per match? Great investment & pays for itself. If rest of SPFL rejects that then let them choke on the scraps being thrown to them by Sky.

Has Shane got a patriot or do we need to buy him a coffee every month ?

Shane

You can sign up under the membership tab on my buy me a coffee for a monthly debit if you really love me. And if you know someone with a business who wants to be on a couple top 100 football podcasts consistently there's info for sponsors there, too.

Colin Ferguson

There is probably money to be made in televising the 3 B teams games as well... And that would help the lowland league and if that were to happen, I bet the league 2 would be happy to invite the B teams in...

Martin Davies

Please cease with the progressive ideas! This is the country that thinks it can boost the profile of women's football by showing it on a channel with at least a dozen viewers in a language no one speaks.

Nicholas Dickson

The CROpod makes night shifts bearable ,so gladly support it and after Nixon who are you going to do next ?

Great point about no incentive for Doncaster to push for a better deal, but if his package was 200k basic but then hits clubs expected targets he could hit 450k you can be sure the money on offer would be far better, the thought of that clown getting nigh on half a million a year sickens me.

Heart and Hand

Absolutely Douglas, can’t think of many £400k pa CEO roles with no performance targets but he has one.

Paul Kerr

Doncaster and his pals attitude is that clubs should just take what we are given and be grateful. It's so inept. Rangers were broadcast UK wide and internationally in the bottom tier. The market is there. The 4 Old Firms would surely sell to a streaming platform for UK and global distribution for £30m on their own. If you go to the farthest reaches of humanity and you ask the question Rangers or Celtic? you'll get an opinion. Since 2009 how much do you think Doncaster has realistically taken out of the game in salary, pension, bonuses and perks? £5m? £6m? could be more. Before that 12 years at Norwich. He's hardly the go getter, forward thinking innovator a plucky little league on the fringes needs to get some attention.

Graham Jones

Rangers need to examine the Benfica litigation case from a few years back. They won the right to sell their own TV rights. I don’t know how relevant it will be to our situation, but the club need to be active in separating us from this nonsense, because we’ve seen how many times small clubs get easily bullied and vote for deals they know up front are really bad ones. We simply can’t rely on other clubs to be sensible. This is Scottish football we’re talking about, and they have little idea how to market a product. We’re talking about owners of small local businesses who’s product or service doesn’t extend outside their own shire, who are being asked to understand how our game should be run as a business. Rangers can’t afford to let this go, and they can;t rely on the other clubs en masse.

Shane

We did more eyeballs on a screen playing fucking Brechin than any match in the top flight did that year, and they didn't have to go fish the ball out of a hedge.

Robert glen

Am I missing something here agree Doncaster is a prick but he doesn’t make the final decision the clubs do and surely they would have told him to check out other platforms

Neil Wilson

The SPFL shouldn't be signing any deal now. We need to explore every avenue with all platforms. Looking at similar size markets, we should be in the £60m a season range. According to Variety, Apple TV have 1.57m homes in the UK. Surely, something similar to Apple TVs deal with the MLS would be beneficial to both parties and bring a few hundred thousand additional subscribers. That's the kind of discussions Doncaster should be having to find the best deal available.

Shane

Dunno. I've been thinking about that. We got 4 or 5 Watergate shows left to knock out first, tho.

James Barrie

The “look at his haircut” comment got me 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Mike Sim

Doncaster must pinch himself every day - a £400K pa job requiring zero effort for an employer too preoccupied with itself to care how shit a job he’s doing.

Gary Brown

Excellent pod guys. Perfect sense in absolutely everything you've said - which is sadly why it won't happen. The attitude & ineptitude of the clowns who run the game here is tragic. Narrow minded & self serving.
