The Watergate story would never have been told without the relentless work of a number of journalists, not just Woodward and Bernstein. To that end, Shane and David are back in Episode 6 of their Watergate at 50 series to talk about the people left out of the history as told in popular culture.

In this show, the guys introduce you to the city editor of the Washington Post, the man whose name was listed first on their Pulitzer Prize for coverage of Watergate, Barry Sussman. Plus, how all that leaking worked; how the media failed to make people care about the story before the 1972 election; how by the Spring the White House can't get out of the way anymore; and Leon Jaworski proves to be just as adept as his predecessor in the Special Prosecutor's office.

Become really interested in Watergate following this series, having previously had zero knowledge of what it was all about. I’m starting to understand why American novelists (looking at Grisham as chief culprit here) have sooo many characters in their books! Might try and draw an organogram to see how everyone fits together! Looking forward to further episodes 👍

Been loving the show gents, it's great. This episode I particularly enjoyed listening to Shane talking about the inner workings of traditional print journalism of the time. I'm a big fan of newsroom/bullpen style films like The Post, Zodiac, Spotlight etc. So it was good to hear someone who knows the industry cut through the bullshit that's great for storytelling, but doesn't tell the full story.

A bit of a detour but an essential one in the overall series of events. It was particularly useful to hear Shane's personal insight into the inner workings of journalism. Another great episode of this great series. Thanks David & Shane 👍👍👏👏
