Disgraceful refereeing yet again!!

Steff Clarke

Fucking fuming, in a pub in NZ with Tim's rubbing our faces in it... Ha ha ha its Hibs

Douglas Innes

I'd appeal the morelos red card even though It'll stand if only so during games we can highlight similar instances against our players

Steff Clarke

Beyond angry, the.... Arggggg I cant type or it'll be troublesome... Fffggg...

Maca82

Too many in the ‘fan media’ section making today about tactics, players decision making and Gio. All valid points I’d agree but we should to a man be talking about Collum and nothing else today, he’s the biggest reason we have dropped points nothing else. That said the weak nonsense from GVB post match will see another Collum from a Clancy or Beaton etc soon enough.

Scott jamieson

Have to agree gio needs to call out these shocking referee decisions that seem to only happen in our games

Hoggy

Should be it now folks. For some reason Patreon didn’t want to work either. Ffs.

Rod Murray

Yes, Gollum was awful as usual but don’t ignore the fact we were awful too. Slow pace, poor passing, inability to take control of the game. We couldn’t really break them down when they had everyone behind the ball yet we couldn’t defend when we had everyone behind the ball. I’m sick of hearing that we are not at our best. These players get well paid and are pampered. It’s time they started to play their best. Fed up of excuses. Not good enough.

Craig Stevens

With a filthy cheating bastard of a 'referee' like that you have next to no chance of winning the game. However, it would also help if Gio picked the right team and stopped pandering to the opposition. Playing 2 holding midfielders against dross is fuckin nonsense and it's going to cost us. Tillman instead of Jack and we win the game. When was the last time we ran riot in an away league game that meant anything ? Another concern is the team being pulled down to the same level of the opponent and next to no football being played. I'm very concerned even at this very early stage...

T5

Not good enough on the pitch or in the dugout today. The reds obviously changed the course of the game and need to be appealed (for all the good it will do), but we were terrible apart from a brilliantly executed second goal. The manager's interview after the game was as disappointing as his decision to play Jack, who looked and played like he'd had a curry and 8 pints before the game.

David Hanlon

Did porteous not get booked in the first half. As he got booked in the second.

Andrew Meldrum

Collum changed the game today with another 'mistake'. We were comfortable despite being poor at that point. But still have to look at performance beforehand. We missed Tillman, tho I get why he was rested. But we need more from Matondo in particular. Right now he looks like a downgrade on Sakala.

Euan Dover

Any focus on the ref after that today is just distraction and taking focus away from another dire Rangers performance in the League. I am sick to death of watching this team labour week in week out in the league with not a clue how to really break down teams that are barely professional. We are in for a long season which could be savalged now if we get rid of the manager and get someone competent in. It’s only going one way.

Heart and Hand

Sorry but I disagree. You're essentially saying we only deserve competent refereeing if we play well. I don't believe that should be the case.

Luke

We fail to win the Collum lottery yet again, what an awful referee he is.

Rod Murray

I don’t think he is saying that at all. He is saying yes the ref was terrible but so was the performance. If we’d played well the ref’s inadequacy wouldn’t have been an issue. There’s no denying Gollum shouldn’t be allowed near a football match but the fact is that he is. We should be better. Neither were red cards but that doesn’t take away from the fact that we were crap- again. I think that is the point.

Paul

The lack of investment in a proper attacking central midfielder is pure negligence. The manager playing ultra defense against teams in the league won't do. Kent doesn't do enough for what we paid. If him and Alfie don't sign new deals then they must be sold ASAP. Big few weeks ahead

greg sutherland

If Alfie is going to be like that he's as well leaving. Overweight and angry Alfie is a liability

Dan Bransfield

I thought Sands really earned his pay today. Lindstrom call was unfair. My question, would VAR overturn that call?

Steve Clark

Sands was my motm as well

Heart and Hand

You can criticise both but saying any criticism of the ref is a deflection suggests it shouldn’t be discussed no?

Heart and Hand

Gio needs to be much less cautious v these sides. Gerrard was same early too. They’re not Real Madrid.

Dougie Jones

Very fair comments from Alex about Alfie. Totally agree. Strong echoes of the Alfie from a few years ago. Not good. We all know (and the established players should certainly know) that Collum is, let's say, an attention-seeking ref and a decision like that was always likely. Need to be much smarter.

Bill McCairns

Good assessment. I thought we were poor but we’re still going to win. Collum is the main talking point. I think Lundstrum decision was very poor. I think Alfie has only himself to blame.

Gary Shaw

Too many touches in and around their box…Kent,Lawrence,Jack and Matondo all guilty of it…decision making is atrocious at times…as much as Lundstrams isn’t a sending off,Kent only has to give it Borna who is bombing it on the outside but instead he runs in to traffic and leaving Lundstram with no option but to pull him down…I’m with Alex,by the letter of the law,Morelos’ is a yellow but how many times does he give the ref a decision to make???….there’s literally no need to even throw his hand in the boys face….Sands motm by a mile aswell

Dougie Jones

On Andy Walker's comments - fair enough but also an easy way for him to show that he's not biased. End of the day, Collum's interventions had the desired result from his team's point of view.

Delgers

We are much better than these teams(providing we match their effort). The players and manager need to realise this when we start games!!

William

To admit and accept that we or Alfie are refereed to a different standard and "thats just the way it is up here" is preposterous. Rules, like the law are there for all circumstances and are there to be applied evenly without fear or favour. The real issue is that our club does not highlight or stand up to the injustice. We as a club, seem to have come to accept this, unlike our noisy neighbours.

Euan Dover

I didn’t say you can’t criticize both, my comment mentions where the focus lies. What will prevent Rangers winning the league this season is not the referees and it wasn’t what lost us that game, put it that way! I can’t escape the notion that domestically we are far less than the some of our parts and generally struggle - which points to bad coaching. Meanwhile, our rivals rip teams to shreds and create chances with ease. The manager has a lot of goodwill from Europe last season so that, along with drama about bad referring, distracts from the crux of the issue which I don’t think is helpful. Hey ho, not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, just externalizing!

Callum Gordon

Can’t disagree with your description of events , Alfie was stupid and probably is a red as there was intent , our passing in general this season has no zip to it leading to loss of possession.

Gary Shaw

Not too sure he was cautious tbh David,I just thought his players let him down by terrible decision making, especially in the first half….as bland as we were, there was 2 or 3 opportunities in that first half were we were a bad pass or a touch too much from creating a good chance…..Gerrard was terrible for it in his first season tbf…We would have a game at Pittodrie,Tynecastle etc and all he would go on about pre match was “battles” and “wars”

Steven Renton

I'm not angry about this performance because I'm used to it now. Never mind the crash barrier ref, Rangers have done, and continue to do the same thing against shite SPL teams like hibernian. Yes they all try harder when it's us. Fuck that. We should be out of sight way before cards have an effect on the game.

Heart and Hand

I think that refs absolutely CAN cost is the league! They have a direct effect on certain results. I do think we have issues and agree with you there. Tempo, consistency during the 90 and the defence is not solid.

Alan Cowan

Our defence this season has been dreadful and was particularly bad for Hibs first goal although pictures show that they were offside, just to compound the frustration Defensive signings not good enough. Soutter will spend more time on the treatment table, Goldson should take a look at his performances this season and Tavernier is being done regularly with someone with pace. Barasic needs support from Kent too. Today's Hibs first goal, read Seville

John

Collum was awful as per but 11 v 11 we were terrible again.

Gordon Millar

Bottom line is we start games slowly and fail to threaten keepers enough....our cautious approach allows poor teams to have a go and when they do we fail to defend.....the ref was a disgrace but our attitude has to be 'go out and blow them away' poor teams crumble under pressure a fact we have yet to grasp.

Gary Shaw

I’m not GVB biggest fan but there has been games, especially in his first few weeks here, were I thought he was overly cautious but not today for me but it’s all about opinions 👍

Gary Shaw

By no means shitting the bed here but if we go to Parkhead 2 points behind with a trip to Pittodrie the following week then it really is make or break stuff for me….So aye,I’m shitting the bed 😂

Stewart Thomson

The worry for me is we look an accident waiting to happen in just about every away game and it stretches right back to when Gio took over. I'm not buying this nonsense that Easter Road is a tricky venue and they'll be right up for it. So what? That's the least you would expect. It's their cup final, but they finished bottom 6 last season for a reason - they are pish. We seem to give teams in this league respect that isn't warranted.

Robert White

Yes VAR would have shown a clip from the side. The bhoys with whistles are getting in the points before VAR

Andrew Meldrum

Sky said both red cards were for serious foul play, which is one of the things VAR looks for. So, VAR would look at it. Would Collum be asked to review? Would he then change his mind? The answer should be yes.

John Davidson

Massive error not insisting on a postponent in the same manner PSV have benefited from. Playing 25 minutes with 9 men, the mental exertion from today and significantly less time to focus on a gameplan for Wednesday - whilst PSV have a full week to learn lessons from Tuesday- puts us at an unnecessary disadvantage. Those who were saying we have a big squad and need minutes in the legs were missing the point.

Martin Davies

Too slow in possession first half, didn't create anywhere near enough chances and players unwilling to take on a shot. Got a break with the penalty but its not up to the referee to decide what the a suitable punishment is - you can't say it was a silly mistake and therefore a penalty and yellow is enough. It was a red card. Never a red for Lundstram - there was a similarly cynical but more aggressive foul 1st half which was deemed yellow. Morelos was silly and gave Collum the opportunity he was looking for to flash the red. I wish someone would call out the referee in a post match interview. Preferably when we've won so that there can be no accusations of sour grapes. Refs need to know that we'll not quietly accept their incompetence (or worse) every week.

Ross Whitehead

Matondo was way off it today. Jack isn't fit and was poor. Kent isn't at his best. Lawrence wasn't great apart from his goal. Sands was a standout for me. Collum is truly awful, again. I don't understand why he gave Lundstram that red, it completely changes the game (Morelos let's the red mist descend, dunno if he would have done that had Lundstram stayed on).

Graeme Burns

We should be smoking these teams by 2-3 goals in the first half, crushing them with intensity and intent…

Paul Kerr

The lack of shooting at times in the first half was puzzling. Lundstram and Lawrence would normally have a go, you could almost see it spread thru the team. Now that I've had some time to mull it over I still think Collum's a cheating bastard. If we are going to win the *sponsor redacted* Premiership with that type of officiating we'll have to put games to bed and that means starting a lot better. Need to get the lads back on the church water coffees.

Dougie Jones

I get what you’re saying and if it was later in the season then I’d absolutely agree. It’s not so much that we need minutes in the legs from a physical fitness pov, more that the more we play the more into our stride we get.

George Higgins

If var didn’t highlight the similar foul by Hibs in first half then it would have intervened in that one

Taximan2002

The lad Amad we had on loan springs to mind here with Matondo, not been impressed at all so far

Guy Incognito

Am I the only one worried that Ryan Jack isn't actually unfit/not sharp but actually that the last injury is one too many and he's now just a yard or two slower? A few times today a Hibs player went past him like he wasn't there and he just wasn't mobile enough to cover over. I'd love to be proven wrong -just felt that he was a bit of a passenger today

Taximan2002

I’ve been thinking that since I seen him at the West Ham game, he never was a quick player but it was as if he was running in treacle. The old legs have gone saying comes to mind and as you said, one injury too many

Jacqueline Mathers

Sands was my motm too He is such a clever player and currently underestimated I’m worried about how passive we look at times We should have best Hibs today 9 men or not

Adam Copeland

Collum aside, the style of football under Gio is abysmal. Draws away to Hibs can happen over a season but this style is not sustainable. Move it faster and fucking shoot. Two things to work on.

Russ

I'll be completely honest, if it was a hibs player making the Lundstram tackle I'd probably call for a red. I'm unsure of the laws when it comes to not playing the ball, there was a very similar scenario in the champions league between Liverpool and Atletico last season? (I think, someone correct me) So maybe the officials are clamping down on them. Maybe some of the podders who ref could look into it. Cheers lads.

KAD87

His style was never gonna be fast paced and creative. He left Feynoord under a cloud of depression amongst the fans. If it doesn’t look good, it at least needs to be good enough to win the vast, vast, vast majority of domestic games. At the moment it’s unattractive and not convincing enough…a worrying combo.

KAD87

Our away form is frightening. Every game a struggle really. Last season we dropped points to RC, Aberdeen, Dundee Utd, Celtic (are there more?), then there were those terrible performances against Dundee and St Johnstone. We could be sleepwalking into a nightmare this season. Our attacking options look limited and confidence in our midfield going forward has gone. Our defence looks fragile. Hopefully some early season teething problems.

KAD87

Did Gio tell Kent not to shoot when he’d already done the hard work? Did Gio ask the players to overpass instead of shooting while in the box? Did Gio tell Alfie to act like a moron when we were down to 10 men?

Nikky Cairney

Lundstrum is a yellow. But Morelos is 100% a red card. A fucking embarrassment again from him. Thought this was in the past but unfortunately not. His attitude to come back out of shape is bad enough and he doesn’t really get any grief about it bizarrely. But to get sent off when we were already down to 10 men is unforgivable.

Nikky Cairney

In terms of the performance. It’s same old I’m afraid. When your midfield contains Lundstram and Jack you won’t create loads. We need a midfielder and if we don’t get one it’s going to be a long season. The biggest difference between us and Celtic is they go to these places and attack because they have better players. We go there thinking we need to win a battle. They can go to away games and be 3-0 up before the other team gets in the game. Most of our games will be tight which allows a refereeing mistake to change the whole game. Worrying with the away games coming up.

Jamie Gourlay

Very annoyed at our form away from home domestically and in Europe. However we did draw 2-2 at Easter Road on the road to 55 🤞🤔

David Ferguson

Said it after 5 mins, still looks miles off the pace. Slow to react when the ball is coming his way led to him being hurried or caught in possession

David Ferguson

Sands was excellent on and off the ball, worthy of MOTM in my opinion. Kent and Matondo need to be chipping in with 15-20 goals this season or else it’s the same old problems

Roslyn Hutchison

I agree with Hoggy, Bushiri did not attempt to play the ball, therefore he should have seen red.

Donald Mackay

Fair enough, but a Hibs player made exactly the same tackle earlier in the match and got a yellow. We need to refuse to play games where Collum refs.

Donald Mackay

This. Our board are in the grip of moral cowardice. We like to think of it as ‘dignified silence.’ It’s not, though, it is moral cowardice. Being a Rangers fan in Scotland is like being a Republican in America: there is no equal application of the law.

Richard

I agree the referee was terrible, but I worry about our conservative setup, particularly in SPL games. Do we really need two holding midfielders? The only time this year that I’ve seen us successfully press a team with a ‘low block’ is against USG, where we played one holding and 2 in front. Why don’t we take that approach domestically. The spl should have a different approach to Europe, but it looks to me like we have one game plan.

Gary Shaw

100% agree…this might be controversial but I think Collums only mistake was the Lundstram sending off…Morelos slaps the guy in the face!…if you’re facing a guy and slap his face then it’s an ordering off so no different from having his back to him…it wasn’t a raised arm for leverage,he’s meant to hit the boy….I think our anger and frustration should be aimed more at Morelos rather than the ref….10 men with 15 minutes to go and he goes and does that….beyond angry at him

Steven L

I’m only just seeing the result. From what I have saw we played pretty rubbish, the ref well, Morelos is being Morelos. Have I missed anything. Poor result but we continue.

Spoon

Great pod and tend to agree with Alex. I wonder when Kent will get some deserved criticism for his lack of product. Too often overplays it or fails to take the ball in and loses it in his feet. Even the one chance where he works magic today is in effect a waste, no end product and he appears to be immune to criticism. He isn’t productive enough and given how much we try and play through him it’s a recipe for disaster, the majority of good stuff recently has been from the other wing and involved much maligned Borna. If the point is he attracts markers and ties up two or theee players then what are we doing to exploit all the space he’s making ? For me most teams domestically have realised you just double up and let him run it out or lose it. He just isn’t producing. Really bored of the antics from Alfie, yes refs hate him, yes players niggle him but if he hasn’t realised by now he will always get picked up for any flailing arm or leg he’s beyond hope. To me today was all about his petulance about not being in team and Colak emerging as a real goal scorer., you could almost see it coming and I’m only shocked it wasn’t a squabble with Porteous. He had already had a few kick outs at players and we could see at least a yellow coming. Totally agree with praise for Sands who I though won a ton of headers and was very solid. Let’s hope it’s the kick up the arse that prompts another inspired Euro performance but it’s a worry if we are out of ideas already in season.

Colin Mathie

Lundstrum's red will be rescinded, Alfie's wont, and nor should it.

chris smith

Dont understand what the plan is, what we are trying to do, how we are expecting to score goals. Its boring and turgid … then there is a flash of genius for a brief second … and then it is back to the turgidness.

Scott Tolmie

The numbers from wide players is simply not good enough

Alan Baxter

I think the opinion on GVB is turning very quickly. Not very inspirational and the football is so very frustrating

David

It's not just jack. A lot of players are looking unfit, slow and some over weight. I'm really worried about this season.

Tamus

What does Kent bring to our side

Maca82

No but he’s paid to manage Rangers and sadly the manager not players carries the can every time, a game like today is not in isolation that’s a concern. As I said for another day today was about the tim with a whistle.

David Innes

There’s a simple reason why no EPL clubs have come in with serious bids for Kent - his numbers are nowhere near good enough

Doug Young

Until we get some kind of reasonable central defence in place, we will win nothing.

Gordon Smith

Referee aside. The depressing part is that it feels like more of the same. Dropping points from a positive position, again. Had hoped we had left that behind and learned from last season. Third game and we are two points behind.

Andy McG

Collum has many faults, his main obvious one over the years is he is too quick to pull out a card. He should take a brief moment to analyse what has happened before doing so. Lundstrum was yellow, Morelos debatable.

Craig Stevens

This is my second comment on it and after watching the full game again I've decided to chuck it. I will continue to watch us in Europe but this corrupt, tinpot league, which like the media is set up to favour 1 club, is for me no more. My health takes priority this time...

Spoon

Can’t fault the boys effort but the fact is we hold him like a talisman and I think we are too focused on him and playing through given his lack of output, our right backs numbers are probably better. There no doubt he can hurt teams but for some time even when he gets free or cuts inside there’s no end product.

Gary Shaw

No debate for me on Morelos…you deliberately slap a guy on the face ,it’s a straight red, easiest red card in the book

Scott Watson

Thank you gentlemen, very measured and fair reflections on a difficult afternoon I agree that Sands was very tidy and decisive throughout. It seems inevitable that Davies is going to take the LCB spot once he's fully available - we're not paying that sort of money for a bench-warmer and he has the inherent ball-playing advantage of being left-footed which seems to be something that Gio values Given that Sands has quietly been very good there, do we think that might potentially put him in contention for the "Lundstram role" in Europe of the defensive mid who drops back into a 3 when needed? If he could do that job effectively then it'd have the advantage of leaving Lundstram in midfield so we don't lose his physicality and mobility (which I think is quite underrated because he's just naturally got a fairly stocky build)

Darren Todd

Consistently, Alex provides the perspective we all need. Any chance you could do the commentary for RTV/Sky big man? Would make a lot of us a lot calmer I feel. 😂
